Hiiiiiii girls gays goths and geeks! welcome to another episode of kate rates dans albums of the year!! what an ICONIC album we have to listen to today with Beyoncé’s seminal Lemonade

Initial thoughts?

okayyyy this is probably one of the most iconic albums of all time!!! beyoncé is possibly the best artist of our time. like… no one is doing it like her at all. also this album has my all time favourite beyoncé song on it!

Is this a first-time full album listen-through?

i’m going to be sooooooo honest. i think i’ve maybe only listened to this (all the way through) like once or twice lol!!! i LIKE beyoncé (i thought renaissance was fantastic) but i honestly just don’t listen that much! I do know a lot of the songs from this album, i know there are some bangers and i am very excited to listen :3

i fucking LOOOOOVE a big sexy concept album, and this defo is a concept album. the concept being jay z is a cheating piece of shit

Pray you catch me is gorgeous as an opening. It introduces you immediately to what the album is about, and the strings are just heavenly. her voice is like melted butter

Hold up is beyonce at her best. her storytelling is incredible, the fun, chuggy, reggae inspired beat is so good, and lets her lyrics and voice shine.

This album really highlights beyonce uniue genre hopping ability that I genuinely don't think any other artist can beat. It feels like a great precursor to what we've seen on renaissance and cowboy carter, the way she can flit around different genres and make them her own

fuck yeah time for my favourite beyince track probably ever. The transition between songs and even genres from 'hold up' to don't hurt yourself' is a masterclass in storytelling.

'Dont Hurt yourself' is my favourite beyonce song ever (ACT III ROCK ALBUM PLEASEEEEEE @GOD @BEYONCE) as a massive white stripes/jack white fan, I LOVE seeing him on this album. I think her voice is so perfectly suited to this genre and the instrumentals and big sexy bassline on this track are fantastic

in a foul mood remembering that this lost the grammy AOTY award to adele. far and away the best album on the list and SHOULD have been her aoty winning album (actually the list of nominees is so strange for this year SO many good albums from maybe the best year in music not on it but fucking drake was? cba)

this is a fucking sexy ass album

6 inch continues the amazing storytelling. the weekend works perfectly on this track sexy as fuck

• oh what’s this? MORE AMAZING GENRE HOPPING? YEPPPPP! the spiritual predecessor to cowboy carter ‘daddy lessons’ shows beyoncés range ! she’s absolutely different gravy ! my god !

• the production on Love Drought is beyond GORGEOUS

• no one does a ballad like beyoncé does. sandcastles is a perfect example of that. ballads are always my least favourite, they just don’t get me like more upbeat songs do but this song is beautiful. her voice is WOW, the storytelling is raw and powerful, and a more involved soundscape would have taken away from this. the simple piano is perfect

•JAMES BLAKEEEEEEEE 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 insane to find someone who’s voice can stand up to beyoncé’s- i mean WOW! also production on this track (forward) is my favourite. gorgeous little interlude

• kendrick and beyoncé is a match made in heaven. probably the 2 most important american artists of the 21st century (fight me on this) Freedom is so incredibly iconic. i mean WOW!

• not to bang on about storytelling again but it is just done so so SO well on this album.

• formation is SO GOOD like,… it works perfect as a complete swing left album closer. fuck YES. beyoncé reminding us she can rap down. also ? what an iconic beat!

•formation is a victory lap of this fucking unreal album. can’t get over how fantastic this is

•this is beyoncé’s magnum opus. her best work ever i fear

• lemonade is more than a simple album it’s an EXPERIENCE, it’s a movie, a musical, it transcends

beyoncé the woman that u are. perfection. incredible. wow. join me tomorrow for a very left turn different vibe lol! not my favourite album of 2016 but it’s probably objectively the best!
