Thank you so much for your help! The similar sound and stone-pearl connection is perfect. The name Peter would be unnecessarily confusing to fans of Spider-Man, I think, but that still leaves names like Pierre and Perry as an option. (I don't have a reliable source for the name Perry being related to the name Peter, but even if it's just the same sound, that's pretty good.)

Hi! If you're still doing the name thing, I've always wanted to genderbend Margaret "Peggy" Carter from the MCU, but I'm having trouble figuring out a masculine-sounding name that still plays on her original name (besides just making Carter her first name). Any ideas?

That's a tough one! In terms of direct name relatives, you're out of luck - while feminine versions of male names crop up all the time, it's far less common, even with very old and popular female names, for the reverse to occur. Margaret comes from Greek, meaning "pearl" and there are no good Western male names that share the exact meaning. What might work as a stretch is Peter, which is obviously similar to the sound of Peggy and means "stone" which could be taken as a more butch take on the pearl??

Another tact could be to go for male names with atypical nicknames like Margaret>Peggy. Robert to Bobby, Richard to Dickie, William to Billy.

Hobie, despite having a British/cockney accent in the movie and in the comics, lives in NYC in the comics(movie might b different).

Hobie is a homeless teen(I’m pretty sure his parents died) radicalized by his dystopian world.

He’s been Spiderman for 3 years(movie so most of his comics have probably passed) and his world is a weird combination of 1970s-1990s.

Canonically bad at naming things.

His friends/band are tired of his shit and regularly make fun of him for saving the multiverse.

The cops in Hobie’s world all have the venom symbiote, he uses his guitar to play frequencies that disrupt the symbiotes.

He kills Norman Osborn twice.

Originally he hated being called Spider-Punk.

Hobie’s design was originally meant to be Spider UK, who later became Billy Braddock.

He was originally recruited to what I affectionately call the ‘Interdimensional Spider Death Squad’ run by the Superior Spider with Spider Noir (and eventually Miles and Jessica joined right before the teams merged)rather than the other group of spiders.

He was the one that brought Miles back into the ‘spider society’ when the inheritors came back.

In the comics he lives in a Welfare center in Brooklyn he and his friends/band operate, in the movie he lives in a boat!

Hobie has an interdimensional band with Gwen(drums), Pavitr(keyboard), Noir(bass), Anya(1616 vocals), and Ham(air guitar)

I can’t remember Hobie having any romantic interests in his universe, but fanon wise he is often shipped with his canon gay friend, Captain Anarchy aka Karl Morningdew, but Karl does have a canon boyfriend. he and hobie bonded over similar views, became best friends for the last four ish months before Noir quit.

Miguel hates him, probably because Noir rivals him in size and also questions the way Miguel runs things around the spider society.

(Miguel is canonically 6’9 and i hc Noir as around 6’5)

Miguel once asked (very rudely) in front of hobie, if Noir only dated Hobie because he was similar to Robbie. You can only IMAGINE what Noir almost did (aka assassinate Miguel) before he was stopped by most spider people who are loyal to Miguel. Basically, Noir went even more crazy because of that since Miguel uses Robbie as a way to get to him.

Noir in fact didn’t want to date anyone because of some stuff that happened, but when he met Hobie and got to know him, he instantly fell in love.

Miguel simply hates Noir, but can’t fire him or kick him out for no reason so Miguel picks on him until he snaps.

he acts like Peni’s older brother, being protective of her. she became depressed after he quit the spider society because she really cared about him.

most likely smokes, Peni hates it and always takes his cigarette from him to put it out. has dumped water on him multiple times. Hobie also puts out Noirs cigarette when he sees him smoking.

humor is his coping mechanism, example (my interpretation of the scenes):

when miles said his uncle was the prowler, Noir responded with “this is a pretty hardcore origin story” which sounds like he’s trying to make the situation a bit lighter by joking a bit.

as well as when aunt may asked if they could fight doc ock outside, he replied with “We don’t pick the ballroom, we just dance”

another one: when he, peni and ham met gwen, miles and peter for the first time, peter asked noir how they got there and he answered with “it’s a long story” only to say right after “maybe not that long”

it is me being in character as my lancer oc Hamlet (its callsign), aka Pierce Flickin. it is trying to find stable work, and has banded together with other pilots to find work ( he also lives with them) he is ll7 and pilots a swallowtail, running basically whatever I could find to support sitting on a Lancaster and locking on a shit ton, plus technophile for fairly clear reasons. it’s currently hiding from union because of reasons related to the aforementioned reasons, as well as his last steady job. he is truly obsessed with human society predating the fall (our era and a little more), especially literature, but he gets a lot of stuff wrong. it switches between weird highbrow language and informal net-adjacent speak when he gets tired of keeping up appearances tags

Had some fun completing this Rook and the companions questions list.

What type of plant would Harding gift your Rook?

Lace tried quite a few and Alectris managed to kill most of them. Seems like even the Fade is not capable of sustaining the plant life if she forgets about it completely. Harding however is resilient like mountain moss and tried until she’s succeeded. Now Alectris has a little succulent farm, a couple cacti and two hanging baskets of spider plant. Those seem to thrive even if Alectris only remembers about them when she’s not in the Lighthouse and only in the most inopportune moments. 

Thanks to Velu I have also discovered the most metal plant in existance - Dictamnus albus aka burning bush. If a plant that may or may not catch on fire in hot weather is not Alectris plant then I don't know what is.

Do they like Harding's cooking?

To say that she likes it would probably be an overestimation, but she’s more than willing to eat it if the situation calls for it. If anyone asks she calls it “exotic” or “acquired taste”. Don’t tell anyone but she might actually enjoy a good ham and jam slam every now and again. 

What animal/monster would Davrin carve for your Rook?

A dracolisk which he would say looks like her in the early morning. Ugly, spiky and a pain to deal with.

As their relationship progresses and they become actual friends he might make a figurine to represent Alectris’ mabari Kios. 

Does your Rook like the walks in Arlathan with Davrin?

She started enjoying them a lot more since she convinced Davrin it’s a good opportunity to play hide and seek with Assan. Does she end up sleeping under a random bush every now and again? Probably. Maybe. No, she would never. 

What is something Neve could call on your Rook for if she needs certain expertise for a case?

There’s probably not a lot that Alectris can offer to Neve while doing detective work, but being from a wealthy family and working in a shop of some renown, she’s got a lot of contacts in higher society where Neve might not have access to on demand. 

Does your Rook share Neve's love of fried fish?

She loves the grilled veggies that Hal makes, since a few soldiers from her unit on Seheron died of poisoned fish, Alectris can’t convince herself to eat any seafood. She knows it’s silly, but it’s stronger than her. 

Does your Rook join Bellara in her technical talks about the Fade and various artifacts or are they more content to listen?

Alectris is not exactly skilled in the technological or theoretical aspects of magic, despite being a mage herself. She’s more than content to listen to the “techno-babble” but if you add Emmrich or Veryl into the mix, she’ll probably leave at the first opportunity. If Bellara needs someone willing to test artifacts in practice however, she’s more than happy to lend her a hand. 

Do your Rook and Bellara read serials together?

Alectris didn’t expect to enjoy the serials, she’s read a chapter here and there on lazy days in her shop, but she’s never really paid them much mind. These days however she might be nearly as invested in the detective stories as Bellara is. They exchange theories and guesses and predictions about the finale. Admittedly Alectris enjoys bad or bittersweet endings a lot more than Bellara does. 

What is your Rook's favorite dish that Lucanis cooks?

Lucanis made Arancini once and no other snack has ever tasted as well as those little fried balls. She also really loves lasagna. 

What would Lucanis buy for your Rook at the Grande Market?

Maker, what is wrong with this woman, she pretends to not need anything. Probably would end up buying some proper antivan leatherwork, a new belt or a pair of gloves. 

What dragon would Taash think your Rook would like the best?

Probably Highland Ravager, both because she’s a lot more sociable than Taash expected from a Vint and because they think that Alectris tends to show off and get reckless in a fight. The fact that fire magic is her style of choice doesn’t help with the comparison.

Do they bring your Rook 'round the Hall of Valor to drink often?

Since Alectris is quite close with Harding, she ends up tagging along to the Hall of Valor with either Taash or Lace and she tends to be a good enough drinking partner, even if she complains about their ale. While she usually doesn’t join the goblet hunt, she does tend to join some of the Lords for cliff jumping. 

Would your Rook like Emmrich's mother's hazelnut torte?

Probably yes, she’s not exactly a sweets and cakes person, but I think she’d make an exception for this. 

What kind of tea would Emmrich make for your Rook?

Green tea with mint. Alectris is rather liberal in her drinking habits and doesn't really have any preference beyond waking herself up with a proper black coffee.

Bonus: What is one thing a companion does to cheer up your Rook if they're feeling down?

Give her something to do. Make it sound very important too. The crippling need to be useful will cloud any worries she might have.

I realized i haven’t been giving any GunplUpdates to the, like, 3 people that care, so I’ll just do a quick review of the nine kits I’ve built since the Zeong

Real Grade Sazabi

Probably one of the best RG kits I’ve built so far, at least in recent memory. It’s big, it’s articulate, it’s detailed, I love it!

High Grade Gundam NT-1, AKA Gundam Alex

This one was certainly an older kit. It builds the same as any other HG RX clone, and absolutely needs panel lining with all the molded details (good thing I picked up a pen recently). However, despite all its limitations, the HG Gundam Alex turned out better than I expected, and poses quite nicely!

I’m not at all biased because we have the same name :P

High Grade Mobile Doll May (Gundam Base Color)

This is probably my first official step into the Mecha Masume genre of model kits, but not my first girlpla (I’ve built the Figure Rise Sulleta Mercury the Artery Gear Fusion Guard Spider Feidy kit [highly recommend] before either of them). I doubt I‘ll end up buying anything more scandalous than this, I really don’t care for the half naked robot girls of Frame Arm Girls or Megami Device.

That all being said, this was a really fun kit! It was my first run with waterslide decals, and I think they turned out… mostly ok. The articulation is really good, the sculpting is well detailed (especially in the areas meant for other fans) and I just like kits that come with stands.

I will say, i do not and will not understand the appeal of battle stilettos (it’s hard to see in the pic but her feet are basically pointed straight down in the heels she’s wearing)

Sakura’s Edge

Another of my few non Bandai kits, Sakura comes from the Armored Puppet line of kits from Number 57. It’s another 1/24th scale kit, which means she is very very smol. Her most stand out feature is her third giant buster-arm, capable of wielding a sword twice her height. The bright pink, gold, and white go really well together, and she just looks really nice! Unfortunately her armor is more of an afterthought from the creators, as some parts need to be filed and trimmed excessively to get them to fit (I was in a VC with a friend, he can testify I was almost brought down by the shoes), and other parts just sit loose, ready to pop right off after the slightest tap, touch, or pinch.

30 Minute Missions Spinatia (Commando Type)

This kit was my intro to 30MM and I wish I bought more of them sooner! It was a cheap impulse purchase from a “local” hobby store I was checking out and it was a really enjoyable experience! It was simple and relatively fast (I failed the mission, it took me an hour), but using all the extra parts and mixing and matching equipment was so fun to play around with and experiment with what looks cool, something I hope to see more of as I build more Hexa Gear kits. In the meantime though, I have a 30 Minute Custom to plan >:3c

Transparent SD Gundam and Char’s Zaku II

I dont own many SD kits, and I think these are some more I’ll snag more of as I shop around. They’re simple and cute! They’re both Cross Silhouettes, but only the Zaku came with the CS frame, so the Gundam is just really squat and even more chibi in comparison. Overall not much to write home about, but still fun!

High Grade Gundam Maxter

That being said, this was a really great kit! It’s a shame it’s P-Bandai limited, along with Gundam Rose. It absolutely needs panel lining for its literal abs of steel and face, but it still looks quite nice. It’s very articulate and it was hard to pick just one photo that truly sums up the insanity of Gundam Maxter, perfectly captured in gunpla form. It comes with everything seen in the picture, along with its flying surfboard shield, guns, and an effect part for its bursting machinegun punch. It is such a great kit, and comes with enough ham to justify its $30 price tag, despite the fact that Maxter is in fact very small.

High Grade Messer F-01

I love The messer’s design. It feels like a true successor to the Zaku series of suits. I know canonically it’s built off of the Sazabi, but it’s design is 100% Zaku. It’s got that respirator like mouthpiece, and the spiky asymmetric shoulder armor. Is just so cool! And did I mention this things size yet? It, like it’s predecessor are big boys, snd both stand almost as tall as many master grade gunpla in my collection. Overall an amazing kit!

Some random spider noir information from the comics! I’ve specified where the movies might come in and fanon stuff!

Noir was raised to be and is a socialist activist.

Dude most likely has a 1920-30s NY Bowery accent.

His first run takes place in 1933, in ITSV he comes from 1933, his second run(EWAF)takes place 8 mo. after, so he’d be coming off EWAF to ATSV.

Age wise this makes him 17-20.

Noir has been spiderman for like 2 yrs at most by ATSV, he started in 1933 and is from 1933 in ITSV.

Was bitten by a mythical spider rather than a radioactive one(its a whole thing let’s not get into it).

His costume is/based on his Uncle’s WW1 fighter pilot outfit

He has a black cat named Ding Ding.

Has an ambiguously strained relationship with aunt May bc she’s against killing, he is not.

Yes, he kills Nazis.

Yes, his uncle was cannibalized, his ‘love’ interest had her face mutilated, and his best friend was lobotomized.

Had two paternal figures named ‘Ben’ who died lol.

One of the few spiders who are always strapped.

If I’m remembering this right unlike the other Peters he’s more interested in physics than bio.

In the comics he’s not as physically strong as the other spiders and carries around a small vile of venom for emergencies.

He lives/grew up in a Bowery welfare center with his Aunt and Mj(sometimes) but later gets his own office/apartment.

Recruited to Superiors death squad before working with the other spiders.

Has died at least once(confirmed), but implied multiple times, and was resurrected from another dimension by a spider god back to his own universe.

Fanon wise, most people call him some variation of Benjamin(while avoiding Ben lol) like Benj, Benji, B, etc. with various justifications but ultimately to more easily differentiate between the other Peters. Me personally, I think he takes on the name ‘Benjamin Urich’ but that’s a different post.

Noir does have canon love interests. He has had a romantic(mostly sexual) relationship with White Widow aka Felicia Hardy, but she was like 40 he was like 16/17 it’s weird and gross. He has also had a weird relationship with his MJ but it’s not super flushed out and he even says in the comics it’s strained, so most fanon views her as a sister figure.

Fanon wise, he is often shipped with his best friend Robbie Robertson(who dies very traumatically) or Jean DeWolfe, a federal agent, he’s seen working with. Recently, I’ve seen him shipped with a lot more characters, most notably Ham, Hobie, and Miguel.
