the notes of that ladybug post……
#i don’t know who needs to hear this but ‘ladyBUG’ ‘lady BEETLE’ and ‘ladyBIRD’ are all synonyms.#the term refers to a FAMILY. not a SPECIES#asian lady beetles/harlequins/etc aka harmonia axyridis are IN THAT FAMILY#YES they are invasive. YES they might bite YOU but only because YOU suck. they have never bitten me and never would because they love me#just because they might bite and are invasive DOESN’T mean they’re not also ladybugs. god fucking forbid women do anything

Colourful beetles? (preferably ladybugs but I'm down for anything)
COLORFUL BEETLES:
Oh hey, I can think up a few colorful beetles. We'll start out with a couple of ladybugs (aka ladybirds)...
22-Spot Ladybird Beetle (Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata), family Coccinellidae, Germany
photograph by Olei
Transverse Ladybird (Coccinella transversalis), family Coccinallidae, Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Kerala, India
photograph by Charles J. Sharp
The Figeater (Cotinis mutabilis), EAT A TASTY FRUIT!!!, family Scarabaeidae, Fullerton, CA, USA
photgraph by Davefoc
Pleasing Fungus Beetle (Gibbifer sp.), family Erotylidae, French Guiana
photograph by C. E. Timothy Paine
Golden-spotted Tiger Beetle (Cosmodela aurulenta juxtata), family Cicindelidae, Shenzhen, China
Some entomologists recognize the latin name Cicindela aurulenta, for this species.
This subspecies, obviously, has white spots, instead of yellow/golden spots.

YELLOW1!!1 it's been a hot minute since I sent in an ask!
Since pokemon has really come to bite my butt, I wonder what kinda pokemon Mei and Macaque would have! (I'd guess Mei would have a gyrados for some reason, but it makes sense to me and that's good enough!)
the LMK storyboard director (Ashe Jacobson) actually made pokemon cards for the LMK gang based on her hcs of them! Although they were made during S1/2 and likely don't reflect current ideas or fanon (also too many legendaries for my taste). Also no Sandy card :(
Things I do love about each though:
He/They pronoun MK. MK having bunch of little monkey pokemon. Plus a Krabby for some reason. Also Age: Unknown foreshadowing... instead of the legendaries I could see him having a Ground type like a Gligar (cheeky bat pokemon based on a tyoe of Japanese yokai) or a Swinub (snow boar piglet).
Red Son out here with all the pronouns and a bunch of poor Bug/Steel types about to get melted XD. Honestly surprised that he doesn't have a Tauros. The Houndoom seems like an Erlang pokemon though, Red Son seems more of a Torchic kinda guy. I could also give him a legednary like Chi-Yu; a little piece of primordial fire based on the Chinese Great Peril of Hundun/Confusion.
Mei def deserves a Gyardos - no fault to Rayquaza but no legendaries allowed. Rapidash is perfect for her, but perhaps a shiny to fit her theme a little more + she def would be a Shiny hunter. Sceptile is a more subtle choice since it's a lizard pokemon with one of the highest base speed stats (450) and has sword-like leafy protrusions. I've seen ideas for her having a Blitzle (electric zebra pokemon) as well since it just seems like a Her pokemon to have.
I just love Tang having Shedinja (the cicada husk pokemon) partially because it falls into a little theory I have of him >:3 + Golden Cicada connection. Chimecho is also based on a type of shinto warding bell used to scare off spirits - a useful pokemon for a priest/superstitious nerd to have. The Hoothoot is adorable, he's just here cus of nerdiest. Spoink is based on a bible verse about casting wisdom to those who won't appriciate it (pearls before swine) so thats pretty Tang-coded. The Shuckle makes me think of Noodles and the infamous "don't fuckle with the Shuckle"-meme because of it's ability to become the most lethal attack pokemon under the right circumstances. Tang deserves another non-legendary tho so lets give him an artifact pokemon like a Golett or Baltoy for him to nerd about (and struggle to carry).
Pigsy has pigs. You know if Gen IX was out he'd have a LeChonk no question about it. The Munchlax is super adorable since is a hungry baby pokemon (reminds him of MK?), and the Clefable could be a hint at his amazing singing voice. Blipbug is a ladybird larva aka a "bookworm" pokemon - you know he got that one cus of Tang. The Ambipom is interesting tho - extra hands in the kitchen obvs, but maybe hinting at his incarnation's connection to SWK. I could def see him having "food"-type pokemon around too like Smoliv, Milcery, and/or Tatsugiri.
+Tang and Pigsy both have a pokemon that reminds them of eachother omg; Spoink and Blipbug. Perhaps the Spoink is (Pigsy's) Grumpig's baby?
Wukong using his flattering game art for his ID is very in-character of him XD. Most of his pokemon are really on the nose too - Infernape is legit based on him after all. I excuse the use of legendary pokemon (esp Landorus since it's a earth/cloud god pokemon) for him too since thats what he is. The most recent legendary pokemon is uber-Wukong coded tho - Pecharunt, based on the Peaches of Immortality combined with the japanese folktale of Momotaro + japanese death mythology. I could see Wukong also walking around with a bunch of horse (Mudsdale) and fruit pokemon (Boundsweet, Cherubi) as well. Maybe even having a team thats made of up pokemon that remind him of his old friends.
Macaque having a Zoroark and Zarude is super genius. Zoroark is a mimicry pokemon (based on kitsunes/huli-jings) and that checks out with what Macaque tried doing in the novel - also reminds me of my hc that Jiuweihuli took him under her wing. Zarude is a spooky legendary monkey pokemon obvs, but it's introduced in it's debut movie as "Dada" by the human it raised - sorta foreshadowing how the FFM baby monkeys really love Macaque. Gengar and Marshadow are great choices for his shadow powers ofc - with Marshow having a "lantern" kind vibe to it. Grimmsnarl I think was choosen based on it's Gigantamax form - it looks a lot like Macaque's Smoke Monster form. I could also see Macaque having a few Sneasels - little dark types based on a wind Yokai. I think that while he'd like sound/music-focused Pokemon, his ears are too sensitive to be around the moves - he'd start running the second he sees a Whimsur.
+Macaque and Wukong have Eevee-lutions that evolve based on high affection depending on time of day. Like the Sun and the Moon everybody. Oddly enough in the pokemon "I Choose You!" movie, Marshadow is considered a "guide" for those chosen by Ho-Oh (which Wukong has), early foreshadowing how Macaque becomes a legit mentor to MK.
Jin and Yin just have duo pokemon that work best together. These two def would buy both versions of a pokemon game so that they could play and trade together. The two NInetails is a cute reference to their mom - the OG Nine-Tailed Vixen. They need a Gourgeist for their Calabash tho.
This is the best i can do rn for poor Sandy; I used a mix of microsoft office word shapes, Imgflip, and the Pokecharms Trainer Id generator (I couldn't figure out how to change the trainer to a custom image).
I gave him Mantine and Lapras cus they're gentle "Ride" pokemon who like carrying people across water. Polteageist cus Tea and secrets. Smergle cus of art. Vivillion cus of the blue butterfly in "To Catch a Leaf" and the Dewpider cus Huntsman. Some more ideas include Dhelmise (the seaweed anchor pokemon), Misdreavus (cus of his necklace), and/or Machamp (wrestling theme in the Scroll of Memory). Lots of cat pokemon too - him and Nanu would get along. He's not a fighter at all - and neither are his pokemon. Don't underestimate them tho - they hit hard.
Additionally; Nezha has all snake pokemon + I can see him having a Charcadet. He's got a Phantump and a Dratini too but don't ask about them.
PIF has a swarm of Castform following her since they can't be blown away by her winds (she treats them like baby wind spirits). DBK has like fifty Tauros of different breeds' and a few Miltanks + a Scovillain who provides him with peppers.
Erlang has a Houndoom and nothing else... except maybe a Lotad who reminds him of his greatest regrets.
Chang'e owes a few bunny pokemon (Scorbunny, Buneary, Azumarill, Bunnelby etc) and an Alcremie, plus a bunch of stray Clefairy-line pokemon (moon origins) and Minior (meterorite/star candy pokemon). She also has a little Rowlet plush that she hugs tightly whenever she goes to sleep (Hou Yi's starter).
I feel like animal demons dont really "own" pokemon cus they see them as fellow demons/monster species. Wukong is an except since his are probably old friends/decended from pokemon he knew back on FFM.
this got a little away from me sorry - I love pokemon too <3

👌👌👌👌👌 ML AU Payneland is a gooo
I have ideas for their costumes too! I wanna base them off the vibes of their show outfits..
Edwin aka Scarlet Beetle is going to have a more suit-look superhero costume. Think tuxedo mask but without the hat and the cape is ladybird wings.
And for Charles, aka Chevalier Cat, its gonna be more of a homemade costume look. Leather jacket, leather pants, leather boots. Cat themed patches. Probably will incorporate his suspenders. His earring is going to be a cat paw.
Not 100% sure what to do for his tail yet...bc a belt tail def doesnt feel right for him. (ideas?)
I'm excited to write them in superhero shennanigans and situations. But also draw their costumes.

Trying to figure out the exact species of the JATGP bugs (and also cool bug facts!)
(Warning: pictures of bugs)
I’m gonna start with ya boi:
Mr. Grasshopper:
First of all, I love him and I wanna be him
Grasshoppers are the only herbivores of the 6 bugs. Uh. Yeah.
Grasshoppers have camouflage! And they can fly just a little bit, but their strong hind legs do most of the work.
Since Mr. Grasshopper is green and British I’m going to infer that he is a Omocestus viridulus, AKA the common green grasshopper
Literally the same guy.
The common green grasshopper is from Britain, and, like the name suggests, common. Very common, in fact. I think they’re like the second most common grasshopper in Britain (most common one isn’t green)
Mrs. Ladybug!
She’s so sweet msmfjrjgjggjjgfjf
FIRST OF ALL, IN BRITAIN LADYBUGS ARE CALLED “LADYBIRDS”
WHICH IS STUPID BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT FUCKING BIRDS
In related news, ladybugs are actually a type of beetle. Sorry for ruining your life.
Ladybugs eat aphids and scale insects (little tiny insects idk) and also pollen and nectar. Not peaches though.
Anyways considering the fact that she is red and has black spots, I’m gonna say she’s probably a Coccinella septempunctata AKA the Seven-Spotted Ladybug. They are just THE ladybugs of all time.
Very cool. Also easy asf. These ladybugs can play dead when threatened and also they are real pretty.
Mr. Centipede:
Silly billy he’s always been my favourite especially in the book he has a goofy little smile
Centipedes are venomous and carnivores. They eat anything they can overpower with their venom. Centipedes are nocturnal, because they dry out VERY easily in the daytime. They usually either don’t have eyes or have shit eyesight. They also have no ears. They “hear” by sensing vibrations in the ground.
This one was a little bit difficult because centipedes don’t vary all that much, but I’m thinking Lithobius forficatus, AKA the garden/brown/stone centipede.
They have many names. They are also very common, especially in North America and the UK. Garden centipedes are born with 7 pairs of legs, and grow legs throughout their life, maxing out at 15 pairs of legs (they always have an odd number of leg pairs) They live under rocks, and if someone lifts those rocks, these centipedes are in luck, because they’re also very good at running. I THINK they have eyes, but if they do, their eyes can only discern light from dark.
Stone centipedes mostly eat flies, springtails, and, uh. Earthworms. But us JATGP Musical fans knew that
Mrs. Spider:
Y’all know spiders I will not explain them. Also I’m scared of spiders so I will NOT show many pictures of them *shudder*
Mrs. Spider could be literally any spider in France. The only spider that’s black with white stripes like this is a zebra spider (Salticus scenicus) and they don’t actually look like her that much. But they’re cute as fuck❤️
I wish I could show you a picture but mobile Tumblr has a maximum of 10 photos per post, but they’re really cute and fluffy.
Anyways, I feel like she’s more likely to be a Steatoda grossa, AKA Cupboard Spider, but they look more scary so I’m not gonna show photos.
But only the males are black and white.
Fuck uhh
Okayy she’s possibly an Araneus nordmanni, AKA Nordmann’s Orbweaver. They’re really scary and I wanna cry but I’ll try to describe them. Black with brown legs, weird white pattern, giant ass. These spiders do exist in France, but they are very rare. (Not just in France, but in general.) They are VERY GOOD at climbing and tend to build webs high on trees (like in a dead peach tree. Maybe with their mate.) They eat insects like gnats, flies, and wasps. Good for them. I’m still terrified.
Also female Araneus nordmanni are apparently the dominant party in the relationship so…
…yeah she’s definitely a Nordman’s Weaver.
(Edit: user @my-favorites-suffer said she looks like she could be a species of wolf spider!)
Mr. Earthworm:
OH THANK GOD I CAN STOP LOOKING AT SPIDERS AND LOOK AT THESE CUTIE PIE WORMS!!!!
Earthworms are boneless, muscleless, eyeless silly billies. They’re also hermaphrodites (male AND female at the same time) and they can regenerate parts of their bodies (not always so please don’t go around cutting worms in half) They eat fruit, fungi, and anything decaying.
So, I don’t remember the whole movie or the book, but in the musical, Earthworm speaks Spanish sometimes, and his song is vaguely Latin-esque (our director gave him a mariachi jacket for Plump & Juicy. It might not actually be Latin-esque that’s just what I’ve been told if it isn’t then oopsies) so I always thought he was from like Central America, maybe Mexico?
How did a worm get from Mexico to Britain? Guess what: Most earthworms in Mexico are invasive and from other places! Which means it could happen the other way around, but also it means that doesn’t narrow down what species of worm Earthworm is! Fuck!
He’s probably supposed to be a Lumbricus terrestris (The common European Earthworm.)
They are the most common worms. Everywhere. But other than species and location, nothing connects this earthworm to THE Earthworm.
So I propose a much funnier idea: That he is some species of Amynthas.
There isn’t enough info about the Amynthas for me to figure out exactly which species of Amynthas he probably is, but look it has a smooth white clitellum like Earthworm!!
So there are 3 reasons why I feel like Earthworm is an Amynthas. 1. Appearance. 2. They are part of the family Megascolecidae, which are the largest family of earthworms (They do say he is a big worm, although that’s probably because he’s literally human-sized)
And 3. These worms are also called Jumping worms. Because they. Uh.
They jump. When they are scared. It’s REALLY funny.
Most Amynthas are from Asia, but somehow a bunch ended up in Mexico. And now I guess one ended up in Britain. And then New York. Invasive species behaviour. (Actually a lot of the JATGP insects are invasive)
Take your pick of worm!
(Also Glowworm is a Lampyris noctiluca, AKA common glow-worm. If you even care. Nobody cares abt Glowworm. How dare you. And James is probably a human boy.)
And that is all thanks guys heart emoji

So now that Kagami is a part of the bugettes as the red ladybug, do you have any ideas on what her hero name could?
Given her coming in from Japan, I do think Japanese words and myth would be considered for her.
If she wants to go a little cute, she could be ladybird in Japanese: Tentomushi.
I can also browse around some yokai to look to for inspiration, especially as I know there are some female specific ones that exist. One that comes to mind are oni, which I believe do have some positive views in media recently, so she could be Aka Oni.
Another idea is Suzaku, the Japanese name of the Vermilion Bird. Along the lines, there's Fennikusu (phoenix).
So I got a few options, but I'll have to research around some first.

Re8 au but instead of Lord Billy being the Lady D of the AU, he's the doll of Lord Steve Harrington. The second Lord the Party comes across in trying to find and get Will Byers back. A lone noble recluse with dead parents but a oversized doll that he lovely calls Ladybird. No one knows where the doll came from but some claim it was a gift by his parents to him before their demise.
Max calls the doll, Lady Scissorshands because of the claws that extend when attacking.
In the middle of the overgrown gardens, there lays a grave. Surrounded by potent flowers. When the Party puts the grave stone back together it reads,
William (Billy) Hargrove
1967-1984
"My one true love, you have my heart, my life...nothing could compare to you, my Ladybird."
(Aka Billy was human and a lover of Steve but died due to unknown circumstances. Whether due to the Cadou or his own grief added with his decreasing mental health, Steve created a 9'6ft doll of his lover, that sounded just like him. Behaved as Billy as well. Apart of Steve's cadou is embedded inside the doll)
Inspired by a discord convo about Lies of P that turned into a RE8 au bit. I might draw this if there is any interest

The outsiders OCs I created because I had nothing better to do with my life.
Ladybird Jane Curtis
• 16 going on 17
• Sodapop’s twin sister
• Nicknames are Bird, Birdie, doll and Lady (but only Dallas call’s her Lady)
• was President of her school’s drama club until she had to drop out to help support her family after their parents died
•Great liar, the only one who can tell if she’s lying is Dally
•Secretly dated a soc (Randy) but broke up with him the night of her parents funeral
•She’s often the gang’s alibi because of her gift for lying (she’s gotten Dallas out of jail more times than she can count)
•Her and Two-bit are platonic besties (they watch Disney and Micky Mouse together a lot)
•works at the local 24 hour dinner with Sandy (before ya know, she cheated)
• fiercely protective of Ponyboy (she had to practically become his mom)
•idolizes Marilyn Monroe and Clara Bow (she loves old Hollywood)
•Smokes and will put her cigarettes in her rolled up sleeves for easy access but hates the taste of alcohol
• She’s her mom’s twin
• Has a unrealized crush on Dallas (they often flirt with one another while Silvia and Dally are broken up but Darrel often puts a stop to it)
• “My only sister Ladybird runs up to us, she’s Sodapop’s twin and pretty much the female version of him, beautiful and always positive, she has bombshell blonde hair and mom’s kind eyes, always looking at you like they’re is no one else in the world that she rather be looking at, but now her eyes are looking at me with horror. She despises the sight of blood or me being hurt, she treats me like a damn baby who is always hurt”
Book description of Ladybird aka Ladybird from Pony’s perspective
• I got inspired by Daisy Buchanan for her character description and design
Kathrine “Kitty” Lorraine Lebeau-Curtis
•20
• Darrel’s then gf turned wife by the end of the story
• Has a mom who in the nicest terms is a drunken a hole who is literally insane
• She’s short because she was oftentimes malnourished as a child and would be locked in a room with no food for days on end as punishments
• From Montgomery, Alabama but moved to Tulsa when she was 10 when her baby sister (Margaret) was found de@d in the bathtub and her mother’s reputation was ruined.
• Grew up on the soc side of town and was practically a soc for many of her teenage years but always hated how socs treated greasers
•Sews all of her own clothes and will fix the gang’s clothes as well (and she’s great at it)
• “Patiently” waiting for her mother to kick the bucket so she can sell her house (it’s a soc house so it would go for a lot) so she can help her husband out with the bills more (Darrel insists that she doesn’t need to do that for him but she doesn’t listen) it probably won’t take much longer for her to pass because of the amount of drügs she’s taking
• Works as a seamstress
• Was cheer captain back in high school and was damn good at it (her team won several national titles under her leadership and she owns several championship rings)
• Originally dated Paul Holden (that’s how she met Darry) but he was a horrible boyfriend who would often beat on her and belittle her, Darrel was the one who stood up for her and treated her like she was a person and not some doll to be tossed around, that’s one of the reasons why she fell in love with Darry
• Paul hates Darrel for “taking her away from him” when Darry literally was the only one who treated her like a person
• Darrel doesn’t know why she stayed with him (but he isn’t complaining)
• The gang’s mom
• Doesn’t smoke or drink (she has trauma from her mother burning her with cigarettes)
• Becomes her high school’s cheer coach by the end of the story (Cherry and Marcia idolize her)
• Worries about Darrel a lot (she thinks he’s over working himself too much)
•literally the original Cherry Valance
• “Darry’s girlfriend, Kathrine “Kitty” Lebeau was behind Birdie, she’s pretty short with strawberry blonde hair and deep sea blue eyes and a scar just underneath her lip from a cheerleading accident when she was 13. She’s the complete opposite of Darry, and a ex soc no less, but I still like her she’s a good cook and a good person to talk to. I don’t get why she wastes her time with Darry, she has her pick of the crop but still picks Darry.”
Book description of Kitty/ Pony’s pov of her
Tell me what y’all think!

Lady bird and relatability
When I first watched lady bird I didn’t quite get it but as time went by and I developed a different dynamic with the people around me especially my mother i re-watched the movie and it instantly made a difference in my viewing of it.
Ladybird is about Christine (aka ladybird) who lives in a small town in California who wants nothing more than to leave and go to college in New York City even with the disapproval of her mother.
From beautiful set design and a thoughtful story, Ladybird is one that many people love and most importantly relate to it is also why I think the movie is fantastic. The relatability of a film can make or break it with many modern films not quite fully understanding that.
Even though the plot of ladybird is quite simple it still managed to capture all of one’s attention due to the fact that you feel like you are watching scenes out of your own life, arguments with your parents, awkward first relationships, fights with friends, and wanting to move onto bigger things. All that are not necessarily special or even inventive but it all still works so well for the film. A movie does not need to be action packed, have world ending plots and flashy special effects for it to still be intriguing and attract an audience. Sometimes less is more, and people are simply looking for something they can see themselves in and recognise they have shared experiences with others, something film can help do.
The simple plot of the film allows it to explore these types of relatable situations more deeply instead of trying to shoehorn relatability in an already crowded story. It allows the story to breathe.I would love to see an uptake in relatable films that explore the mundaneness of just being a human and having human experiences.

#2209 - Harmonia axyridis - Asian Lady Beetle
AKA Anatis circe, Coccinella bisexnotata, Leis axyridis, Ptychanatis axyridis, Coccinella axyridis, harlequin, multivariate, southern, Japanese, pumpkin and multicoloured Asian lady beetle. Also known as the Halloween Beetle in North America, since that's roughly when that move into hoses to overwinter. When the species first arrived in the UK, it was labelled in jest as the "many-named ladybird". They weren't wrong. One of the most variable species in the world, with an exceptionally wide range of colour forms.
Native to eastern Asia, but artificially introduced to North America and Europe to control aphids and scale insects, and now spreading rapidly everywhere else too. One of the world's most invasive insects, outcompeting or eating native ladybeetles where it isn't already killing them with introduced diseases, and leaving unpleasant odor, stains and taste when frightened or crushed. They also bite.
Katikati Bird Garden, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand

Welcome home little one!
Meet Cheddar! Cheddar is a Stegodyphus tibialis, aka a yellow ladybird spider, they're just a spiderling so we can't sex them yet! They were an early birthday present for Star from a friend and they're SMALL!!! We had a fancy house set up for them and then it turned out they were too tiny so we had to do a super simple deli cup setup for them instead.
So excited to watch them grow up!
[ID: a video without audio of a small yellow and grey ladybird spider being transferred from a plastic dish into a small plastic deli cup filled with moss and an acorn top]

Hi! I saw your post around here where you mentioned Ali Hazelwood, and I've been devouring her stories lately. Since I trust your judgment more than my own (that A level in literature really shows), I was wondering if you could recommend other stories you might have enjoyed? They don't have to be in a STEM setting, nor necessarily romances (although those are very welcome). Thank you so much <3
Hello! Yes of course!!
For books that remind me of ‘One Day’ (and therefore encapsulate the vibe I was going for in this fic). Heavy on themes of intimate relationships between two people, nostalgia, time and growing up.
‘This Time Tomorrow’ by Emma Straub: gorgeous insight into getting older and a push for change, explores the relationship between a father and daughter beautifully
‘Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow’ by Gabrielle Zevin: masterful characters and structure. Two friends work as video game designers. The publisher’s tagline is brilliant: ‘It’s not a romance, but it is about love.’
‘Amy & Isabelle’ by Elizabeth Strout: one of those books I know I’ll appreciate even more when I get older. Mother and daughter relationship: if you resonated by Greta Gerwig’s ‘Ladybird’, you’ll love this one.
‘The Time Traveller’s Wife’ by Audrey Niffenegger: It’s famous for a reason. The most original love story I’ve ever read and with such genius and tender plotting that demands rereading.
‘Normal People’ by Sally Rooney: melancholic and bittersweet (aka it was the ‘One Day’ that I didn’t like quite as much as ‘One Day’ but also guys it’s a good book c’mon let’s be fr here)
Romances I’ve enjoyed (these are probably very popular but there are so many shite ones that I’ll vouch for these):
Ali Hazelwood books. I am so adamant that this woman is an absolute legend and her books only get better. Loved her most recent (‘Love, Theoretically’), it’s too fun.
‘Book Lovers’ by Emily Henry. Emily Henry loml.
‘Love and Other Words’ by Christina Lauren: ICONIC friends-to-lovers
For STEM-y books I enjoyed, I liked:
‘Lessons in Chemistry’ by Bonnie Garmus: the main character is absolutely brilliant and I’m the world’s most devout feminist so of course I devoured this book. (Although constantly calling table salt NaCl did annoy me juuust a little. Yes salt is primarily composed of sodium chloride but it’s not purified so calling it NaCl is just a bit silly)
‘The Code Breaker’ by Walter Isaacson: non-fiction (gasp!) but I find CRISPR so interesting. Biography about Jennifer Doudna, the Nobel Prize winner who essentially transformed the world of genetic engineering.
Miscellaneous books I’ve enjoyed:
‘Tender is the Flesh’ by Agustina Bazterrica: chilling dystopia, excellent narration from perspective character, so disgusting and gory
‘Fingersmith’ by Sarah Waters: not usually a fan of historical fiction but Sarah Waters is the loml, brilliant plotting, crime fiction
‘Vladimir’ by Julia May Jones: devoured it in a day. Dark and sensual, with such a sharply-characterised perspective character.
‘The Charioteer’ by Mary Renault: one of the first books to write an unapologetically positive portrayal of homosexuality. Essential reading for any lgbt+ person who likes reading, imo: stands on the same level as ‘Giovanni’s Room’ or… literally any Sarah Waters novel. I read it for background research on a far-off WW2 fic I want to write but ended up loving it. Really sweet.
Huzzah I hope this is up to scratch <3
