So I've finally finished Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and not only did I enjoy the last three seasons way more than I thought I would, but I was not prepared for how delightfully unhinged the show became. Some of my favourite plot points included:
The female protagonist has a long-lost sister with superpowers who becomes the key to the entire crew returning to their original timeline through the Quantum Realm. Said long-lost sister is not introduced or even hinted at until the last five episodes of the entire show.
Half of one season takes place in a dystopian 2091 where the young twenty-something scientist couple not only meet their grandson who is the same age as them but said grandson returns to the present, becomes a series regular, and calls them "Nana" and "Bobo" in some Once Upon A Time worthy family tree shenanigans. Oh he also gets stuck in the 80s and claims he wrote Don't You (Forget About Me)
Phil Coulson dies in Season 5 because in order to stop an evil AI -turned-human-turned evil because she got dumped by a small Scottish man he has to become Ghostrider. The entire season builds up to this in a way that makes it feel very much like the actor is stepping away from the show and retiring the character, only for them to cast Clarke Gregg as an evil deity from another dimension in Season 6 and as a Life Model Decoy that may as well just be Phil Coulson in Season 7
Patton Oswalt plays multiple identical characters who all work for SHIELD. This is never fully explained.
“Mata Hari Calamari”
The final season is a decade-hopping gimmick with matching genre episodes that beat WandaVision to the punch
One character is a robot anthropologist who just wants to be best friends with the same small Scottish man. He has canonically been trained to perform in alien brothels and eventually becomes a bartender in the Crazy Canoe in 1955. He is one of the absolute best parts of the show.
One plot line follows said same Scottish Man and robot anthropologist as they get stranded in outer space with their only way home being to gamble in an alien casino while their friends attempt to rescue them but accidentally take LSD instead
"I found that bluffing was much easier if you kill someone and take their skin."
Area 51 is canonically a SHIELD base

Since Channing Tatum Gambit ended up in the Void, I can just imagine Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse from the “Most Wanted” timeline being there too. And like Gambit, they don’t even remember their timeline because they got pruned as soon as it started.

If I had a nickel for every show where there is a extremely pretty lady that's been made tough by the hard life she's had, serving in an organization that isn't good all the time but isn't bad, while carrying the trauma of something she can't talk about, and she serves as the right hand lady of her male best friend that is the top leader of their work place who is goofy, likes to cook, makes dad jokes, and has just absolute dad energy, and is going to die and they know it, and they're both (non cannon, except to me) bisexual and they are just as blorbo together if they are life long best friends or married, and they both mentor / parent a witty, dark haired female lead that has trauma from both her traumatic childhood and the fact she is descended from someone who has weird genetics that gave them power but was also a murderer that hurt people, so she fears she is a monster until meeting someone almost like her who explains that her genetic mutation isnt morally bad and she isnt genetically predisposed to being a monster and they all work together and go on missions sometimes out in space but they are such a family it kills me
I'd have two nickels which like. I love.
But like. Melinda may, Philip Coulson and Daisy Johnson are just. So Una Chin Riley, Christopher Pike, and La'an Noonien Singh. The venn diagram is a circle. I am going insane over this

The Darkhold and stuff
Rio says Agatha "hid" behind the Dark magic of the Darkhold. I can't find it now, but in one interview they did ask Kathryn Hahn how Agatha got the Darkhold and she knew about it being on Agents of SHIELD--which had surprised me. The interviewer asked how Agatha took it from Ghost Rider and she was like "must have been a hell of a fight."
What I am infering from this is that Agatha Harkness did not have the Darkhold for very long. The Agents of SHIELD episode aired in 2017, I think. WandaVision happens in 2023 in the MCU timeline. And six years would be a long time for me but if Agatha is 450 years old, it's a relatively short period.
A lot of people, including myself, have speculated she got the Darkhold to try to bring Nicholas Scratch back but was unable to. Then she wanted Wanda's power because Wanda seemed to have the ability to bring people back, since she had "resurrected" Vision.
All this to say, when Agatha is released from Wanda's spell it is the first time she has to sit with her emotions about it. To process it. I assume the Darkhold does not want its user to be emotionally stable.
She wakes up to find Teen in her closet. He claims to have freed her (though there is more evidence that she "clawed" her own way out based on what I saw). So she hopes that somehow Nicholas has come to save her.
Maybe she hopes Rio put the Sigil on him. That she didn't take him after all, that she hid him somewhere.
And then Rio tells her no.
I don't actually know whose trial is in the next episode. (The handwriting on the episode air date library card is block print. It could be Teen because we know he has tiny handwriting per Lilia.) But I wonder if it could be time for Agatha to process this loss finally.

Seriously though can we talk about Daisy after she's freed from Hive?? She literally goes through dopamine withdrawal, symptoms of which include (but are not limited to) anxiety, panic attacks, dysphoria, depression, agitation, irritability, suicidal ideation, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, generalized pain, and drug cravings.
Not to mention the fact that dopamine withdrawal has to chance of becoming protracted withdrawal syndrome and can last anywhere from months to YEARS. Get my girl in a detox center NOW 😭

To me, The Acolyte post-Qimir reveal feels kind of like season 1 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. post-Captain America: The Winter Soldier. In both cases, I enjoyed the shows before the big reveal, but it's like they spent the first halves of their season holding back a little. The reveal allowed the final element of each show to slide into place, and once it was out in the open, both series were free to flex the full range of what they were. I liked The Acolyte before, but now I love it, and not just the Qimir parts. All of it has clicked for me, and once the season is over, I'm really looking forward to revisiting the first half with a keener eye.

One result of being spoiled for half the stuff still to come in Agents of SHIELD is that my speculation gets even more intense. It's not 'Oh how are they gonna stop Hive?' It's 'if Lincoln is the one who dies HOW COME THAT'S YO-YO'S CROSS NECKLACE ON THE SHIP IN SPACE?'
