Afanc
Now we move from our tropical paradise to the lakes of Wales, where our next entry resides. The Afanc is said to be a demonic creature found in Welsh mythology, though also referenced throughout British and Celtic folklore. The descriptions of this creature vary, with some saying it looks like a crocodile, while others claim it looks similar to a large beaver, or even a dwarf. It is said to be a violent creature, attacking and devouring anyone who steps into its waters.
There are a few different tales of the Afanc. One such story is that of how Hu Gadarn, king of the first Britons, slayed the beast. After causing a massive flood by thrashing in its home waters, the Afanc was dragged to shore by Hu’s oxen, where it was able to be defeated. An earlier version of this story claims that the oxen actually threw the Afanc into Llyn Ffynnon Las, a lake with a rocky shoreline that prevented the creature from escaping. Another variation says that the floods killed everyone in Britain except for two, Dwyfan and Dwyfach. And again another claims that a maiden tamed the Afanc, letting it sleep in her lap so that the other villagers could capture it. Apparently its struggles upon awaking crushed the maiden.
The legendary creature is even tied to King Arthur. It’s said that the king slayed the Afanc near Llyn Barfog after having his horse drag it from the water. In doing so, the horse left a hoof print in a rock, now known as Carn March Arthur (stone of Arthur’s horse).
There are a few locations where the Afanc is believed to reside, including Llyn Barfog, Llyn Llion, and Llyn-yr-Afanc.

Today's beast, the Afanc! While originally a lake monster, these were brought to the Americas, (for reasons unknown) where they found their niche in the everglades and other swampy regions.

Was watching Um, Actually's 'Monsters, Myths, and Folklore' episode, and surprised my boyfriend that I instantly knew about the Simurgh and where Afanc live. What's funny about all that is that I only know about them due to research for my Harry Potter fanfic.

Faebruary Day 10~Afanc
This was very interesting to draw. At first, I couldn’t decide if I wanted it to look more like a beaver or a crocodile. This is a little different than my initial idea, but I’m still glad on how it turned out.
~
Afanc is a water faerie that resembles a mix between a beaver and a crocodile. Be aware if you see this creature. If you get to close, it may drag you into the water and drown you.

If anyone was paying a great deal of attention to my ~two ~most recent posts;; you'll see the predicament I (apparently trhoughtlesly) got myself into.
Two artworks. Both I thought weould be good for using as banner images, but also both artists were kind enough to permit me to use them! (I mighta imagined I coulda been lucky enoguh to only get one permissionsing,s)
Now, undecided on what to use? So basically I'm going to use Charlie's Afanc as the banner image for one year, then switch to Irawhiti's dragon after that time.
Just felt I should say. (e.g. what if one

Ryūji karasuno is. the star guy for this au
ryuji sakamoto is our little runner man. coincidentally they both have something up with their legs? Ryūji is an amputee (this was decided before that doodle of him sobbing on the floor I just. forgot to draw his other foot)
