putting off sleep like a boss because i had a migraine earlier today and napped longer than i should have so i'm wide awake now but it's too hot and humid to do anything so i'm just procrastinating.
i still have to go to work today, so sleep would be kind of nice so i'm not dragging during my shift. not to mention i have a union meeting afterward that i take notes for that i'd also like to not be dragging through.
and this whole weekend... past week... past week and a half? has been kind of a drag on the family front that has us all bummed, and as such i put in an application to adopt a new kitten because, why not? i need a new distraction, and apparently books and rp isn't cutting it completely, so a new kitten it is. hopefully. they have to approve the application, but if they do she comes home next saturday.
am i pretending like my hoa doesn't have a rule about only two cats? of course i am. i own my condo, so i figure they're unlikely to just drop in and investigate. my oldest cat is turning 12 today, and he's really starting to slow down; because he's overweight, i know he's not going to live as long as my last cat did (i had to put her down at 19), so i know that to offset the giant hole in my other cat's heart i need to start pairing him now so the transition will be smooth. this is about the same age my first cat was when i got the now-12-year old cat.
but also, i've been wanting a kitten for like the past four years, and i feel like with the family drama going on i deserve this.

Trying to keep a lid on it but. Yeah. Literally don’t know what’s it like to NOT be platonically neglected IRL my whole damn life, only that I know this One Person doesn’t deserve to be at the epicenter of it anymore than I deserved to have been at the epicenter of theirs a year ago now.
…why am I like this. Why are we like this.
#tiger’s roar#…but like. good god. someone being Actually Genuinely KIND and insisting they DO like my company and want my friendship#(and is arguably mutually attracted and THOSE feelings of mine and what I’m picking up from them just won’t DISPELL already)#just. really stirs the muck. gets at that emotional constipation in my brain’s grease trap#then having TWICE now having Activities Suggested and THIS Time in FRONT of people then like…never following through?#all but thinking aloud with planning to witnesses things that sound less like hanging out and more like a date#and then just…not doing it?#when the Reality is Apparently Too Busy?#us fighting earlier this year over quality time essentially#when all I want is to have like. maybe an hour or two once a week or once a month#to enjoy someone else’s company. get a fucking REPRIEVE from my life#that’s…that’s it? nothing grand. just have the time found where it can be without causing strain?#I’m actually NOT a romantic even when I have romantic feelings? they just make me yearn for basic contact all the more#I’ll always be ‘too platonic’ within a romantic relationship so no it’s never going to be an ‘expectation’#MAYBE the one with unrealistic expectations is the guy who watches romance films and struggles with AllorNothing thinking perhaps?#and…yeah. trying to not feel resentful of their time spent this summer with existing friends when apparently not working 20+ hrs a week#in addition to their own research and god knows what else#…because it feels like there’s no space for me. and probably never will be. and I have never been ‘cool’ a day in my life#sure I own it as an adult. especially a 30s adult.#but having people recognize me as kind and supportive and easy to talk to 1:1 (my group aqauaintance/casual friendships SUCK)#but. basically never getting to keep any of them as friends? quickly ditched? treated like a used bandaid?#it…gets to me alright? like I only exist as Catch/Treat/Release but for people#which sure. the friend I’m angry at HAS been frustrated about me deserving better. looks at me like I’m christmas.#and I’m now fairly close friends with their beloved sibling. and despite things having THE Worst Start Ever their family seems to trust me#…but…it’s just…think I deserve better? think I’m worthy of your esteem and respect? think I’m kind and approachable?#want me to feel safe and relaxed enough to be myself? then just…do better.#ask when I’m available to kill a few hours then…follow through on that. that’s it.#not all the time. and my ‘expectation’ is to always be either neglected or used and feeling jaded about it#just…a repreive. for both of us. that’s it.

Anna took a deep breath as she swiped on some mascara and found her tube of lipgloss. She finally caved and agreed to go to the Navy bar that her friends couldn't stop talking about at lunch every day. She only had about five dollars in her wallet to buy a drink since she sold her car for rent money. She couldn't believe was going to take an Uber all the way to Coronado just to make an absolute fool of herself in front of this Bob character. And worst of all, she was still thinking about the hot guy with glasses from the bookstore.
"It's okay," she told her reflection in the bathroom mirror. "At least you're absolutely killing it at work. And you're having a good hair day." She dabbed at her lips, but skipped the concealer. Kevin used to love it when she covered up her freckles which made her never want to do it ever again. Every time she thought about him, her heart skipped a beat, but not in the fun way.
She counted to five and said, "Kevin isn't here." Then she put her makeup away and made sure her computer was plugged in so she could mess around online when she inevitably returned to her miniscule apartment within the next hour and a half. "Let's get this show on the road," she muttered.
The ride to the bar was uneventful, as she was sure the rest of her evening would be as well. Bob sounded like an absolute dream when Advanced Calculus and Advanced Physics talked about him. Anna couldn't imagine him being outright rude to her after the two of them said he was sweet and had perfect manners, but she could already tell what his reaction would be: a kind but forced laugh, and maybe a halfhearted smile. And then Anna would probably get to watch him pick up a different girl instead if she didn't leave right away with her proverbial tail between her legs.
Maybe she should have stayed home.
"Here we are," the driver said as he pulled into a beachside parking lot as the sun started setting over the ocean. "The Hard Deck."
"That was quick," she murmured, wishing she could stay in the solitude of this backseat a bit longer as she climbed out. "Thanks."
The fact that every day in San Diego was warm and beautiful was going to take some getting used to. The weather almost never wavered here unlike back at home. Anna opened the weather app on her phone and scrolled to her saved location in New Jersey, and sure enough, it was raining there. She nibbled on her lip and checked her work email, dragging the toe of her beat up sneaker on the gavel parking lot.
She was just stalling now, wondering if her friends would even notice if she didn't show up. They just met her two weeks ago; they probably didn't even really like her that much. Her thumb hovered over her rideshare app as she thought about the two other women just going about their business like normal if she never went back to the weird tree at lunchtime. She was inconsequential to their day.
Anna pressed her lips together and tapped the app. There was a car two minutes away, but the guilt of having wasted eighteen dollars to come here in the first place was eating away at her mind. "Damn it," she whispered as she closed out of the app and shoved her phone into the pocket of her snug jeans. She started walking up to the sand covered wood planks that led to the entrance of the bar, and she didn't stop until she was inside.
Slow Ride was blaring from the sound system, and the place was pretty packed. It took a few seconds for her eyes to adjust so she could get the lay of the land, and when she did, she realized she was surrounded by mostly men. "Great," she mumbled, earning a few looks, probably because she had barely taken a step beyond the entryway before freezing up.
But as Anna made her way closer to the bar, a big guy in a khaki uniform winked at her and called out, "Hey, Red!"
She felt her cheeks warm up which was certainly not going to help with that nickname. "Oh no." Deftly, she squeezed her way through the many bodies until she had one hand resting on the bar. Why were all these men so attractive? And why were they looking at her?
When a different guy next to her turned and saw her, he stuck out his hand and said, "Hey, I'm Jackson."
"Anna," she replied, slipping her smaller hand into his very briefly before trying to take a step back. But she just ended up bumping into someone else.
"You gotta let me buy you a drink," Jackson told her with a grin. "Seriously. You're already the best part of my night."
Anna swallowed as she looked around for her friends, but she didn't see either of them. "Um... not yet. I'm not a big drinker."
Jackson laughed merrily. "Aww, honey. You came to the wrong place. Hey, Penny!" Anna watched the bartender turn around with her hands full of two martini glasses. "Can you get this one anything she wants on my tab?"
Penny laughed, and said, "You'll have to get in line, Jackson. You're number four on her roster already."
"Damn it!" Jackson complained with a laugh.
Anna's eyes went wide as Penny delivered the two drinks and then came back and leaned on the bar right in front of her. "By the looks of things, you won't have to pay for a single drink all night. So what'll it be?"
Penny had friendly looking eyes that made Anna feel a little more comfortable. "A ginger ale?"
"Coming right up," Penny replied, reaching for a pint glass and the soda dispenser gun without looking away. "I've never seen you in here before, so I feel like it's only fair to warn you that these guys can get a little relentless."
That was literally the last thing Anna wanted to hear right now. Even Jackson hadn't moved an inch away from her, and her hands were starting to sweat as the ginger ale came gliding across the bar. When she wrapped her hand around the cold glass, she told Penny, "I'm actually supposed to meet some friends here. But I don't see them?"
She smiled and said, "Give me a name."
Anna looked down into the bubbles of her drink and muttered, "Jessica Reed?"
The response was immediate but kind. "By the pool table. Where she always is. Oh, and do not challenge her to a game, because she will kick your ass."
Anna laughed as she picked up her drink. "Thank you so much. And um... could you thank whomever paid for my ginger ale?"
Penny nodded as Anna started to head for the pool table. Jackson pouted at her, and the big guy in the uniform called out, "Come back, Red!" She ignored both of them as she fought her way through the crowd, desperately trying not to spill her drink on anyone. There were a lot more khaki uniforms and even some one piece jumpsuit type things that had patches sewn onto them. She read a few of the patches as she got closer to the pool table. Harvard. Omaha. Halo. Those were some weird names.
"There she is. Anna!"
She turned her head when she heard her name, and she saw Jessica waving one hand in the air as she juggled a beer and a pool cue in the other. Jessica actually looked happy to see her as she stood there, all wrapped up in the arms of a guy that Anna couldn't fully see yet. And then her other friend was waving both hands in the air, too, so she waved back. "Hi."
Both women squealed, "Hi, Anna!" in unison, and it was honestly one of the nicest sounds Anna had heard in recent memory. She already felt better about being here now, and that's when she caught sight of who she assumed was Jake. And she was momentarily struck dumb.
The blonde man kissed the side of Jessica's neck and whispered something before releasing her, and then his green eyes met Anna's as he smiled. She decided immediately that he looked like a GQ model, and that was actually pretty fitting for what would pair well with Jessica.
"Hey," Jessica said, reaching for her hand and pulling her closer. "This is my boyfriend, Jake." She gestured over her shoulder to the GQ model who reached his hand out.
"Hi, Anna," he said with a southern drawl. "I've heard a lot about you."
"Oh. Same," she replied, biting her tongue before she told him she'd never heard of a man who was sweet enough to pack his girlfriend fancy sandwiches and also had the nerve to look like he belonged on a magazine cover.
"And that's Bradley," Jessica said mildly.
"My god," she whispered to herself. Her other friend was wrapped up in a pair of thick arms that belonged to a man with a mustache and alluring scars that ran along his left cheek and down the side of his neck into his floral shirt collar. He was every bit as good looking as Jake, but he had dark hair and eyes and looked decidedly a little bit rougher around the edges.
She blushed as she remembered the comment about how he and his wife liked to use math as foreplay in the bedroom. Right now, he kept pulling his wife closer for another hug and kiss while she playfully tried to escape his grasp, and Anna had to look away, because a flash of jealousy hit her like a brick.
"Hey, Anna," came Bradley's gravelly voice as he finally released his wife, and she shook his hand as well. "Sugar told me you're from New Jersey."
Sugar? Anna was definitely beat red in the face now. "That's right."
He laughed and reached out again for a fist bump. "Way better than all these west coast losers," he said over his shoulder, earning a middle finger from another seriously good looking guy.
"Stop trying to make her think you're cool, Beer Boy," his wife told him with an eye roll before he turned away to talk to the other guy.
The problem was, Anna already thought they were all devastatingly cool, and now she was standing here like an awkward fifth wheel. "Do you want a beer?" Jessica asked with a smile. "They have Sam Adams."
Anna didn't want to tell her about the scant five dollars in her pocket, and she also didn't want to have to thank one of the random guys who told Penny they wanted to buy her a drink, so she just shook her head.
Then her other friend said, "Well Bob is up at the bar right now. You just missed him, actually." She was smirking as she added, "He's probably getting himself a ginger ale, but if you want a beer or something else, he'd be happy to get it for you."
She made like she was about to call out his name when Jessica said, "Bob also likes ginger ale. And the bookstore in North Park."
Anna met her eyes before turning and craning her neck. "He does?" she asked softly, thinking about those pretty eyes and wire rimmed glasses and the smell of tea leaves. And then she saw him. He was here! "Oh," she gasped. He was Bob?
---------------------------
"Thanks, Penny," Bob said as he accepted his drink. Two of the guys at the bar were talking about a cute redhead, and all he could think about was the girl from the bookshop who decided after probably four minutes and seventeen seconds that she didn't want to talk to him anymore. He wanted to look around for this mysterious, new redhead, because if he was being honest, that was something he really thought was pretty, but what was the point? She was probably already over trying to talk to Bradley or Jake or Mickey.
Yesterday, Bradley told him to start wearing his uniform to the bar if he wanted more girls to talk to him, but Bob wasn't that desperate. He still had this fantasy where he met the girl of his dreams kind of organically. But maybe wearing a Dungeons & Dragons shirt wasn't the best thing he could have paired with his jeans tonight. Jake took one look at it thirty minutes ago and told him to go home and change into something else.
"Your girlfriend likes it," Bob had told him with a smirk, and sure enough a minute later Jessica was making a fuss over it.
But now he was making his way back to the pool table where the two couples were most likely on the verge of being indecent. Seriously, if Bob had to watch Bradshaw's hands all over his wife's rear end for one more minute, he was going to scream.
Then he saw her, and he nearly dropped his glass of ginger ale on the floor. It was the girl from the North Park bookstore. Red hair, brown eyes, freckles, kissable lips. She was looking back at him in disbelief.
Oh my god. He was hallucinating. He must be. Jessica was talking to the redhead who wasn't paying an ounce of attention to her, because she was focused on Bob. Her lips curled into a smile, and he thought he'd better make sure. When he glanced to his left and then his right, he didn't see anyone else who could be on the receiving end of that smile besides him.
"Bob!" called Bradshaw's wife. "Come meet Anna!"
Anna. That was the name of their new friend from the university. They talked about her all the time even though they just met her. They told him he would like her. But this was the girl who wanted that horrible Vonnegut book last weekend. This was the girl Mickey thought he imagined.
Apparently he hadn't stopped walking, because now he was right in front of the three women, and he had three pairs of wide eyes trained on his face. "I remember you," he said softly. "From the classics section." Her lips parted softly, and her pupils went wide as Bob asked, "Are you Anna?"
She nodded, her cheeks tinged with pink beneath her freckles. He almost groaned, because she was so much cuter in person than what his memory supplied. Nothing about her was flashy, which he almost preferred, but there was no way she wasn't the hot girl that those guys at the bar were talking about.
"I am," she replied. "And you're Bob?"
He glanced at the other two women, wondering what exactly they told her about him. They looked like they were both holding their breath as he held out his hand and said, "I'm Bob Floyd. It's nice to meet you. Again."
"I'm Anna Webber." She bit her lip, a look of embarrassment overtaking her features as she shook his hand gently. Then he remembered that she ditched him last weekend, leaving nothing but the book he'd already devoured in her place like some sort of parting gift. He released her hand abruptly and cleared his throat.
Now she looked a little hurt, but he didn't know what to say. He ran his fingers through his hair, his nerves getting worse by the second as the other two women practically vibrated with excitement on either side of Anna. "Uh, thanks for that book recommendation. I loved it," he said, barely meeting Anna's pretty eyes.
She gasped and asked, "You read it? You actually read it?"
Bob was trying to formulate another coherent response, but the urge to walk out of the bar was very strong. He was already embarrassed right now, and then he heard Mickey's voice as his friend walked over. "Holy shit, she does have red hair and brown eyes."
Mickey seemed to capture Anna's attention for the time being which really grated on Bob's nerves. Nat would never do this to him, and he couldn't wait until she got home from being deployed. Then Bradshaw's wife was in his personal space along with Jessica. "So she was the girl? From the store in North Park?" she whispered, squeezing his hand.
"The one you had instant chemistry with?" Jessica added hopefully.
Bob swallowed hard. "Yeah," he murmured. "It was Anna. But the two of you need to knock it off now, because it's probably not going to happen. There's just something about me that doesn't translate well. She kind of ditched me at the bookstore."
"What do you mean?" Jessica practically shrieked, and Bob had to hush her. "You're perfect for each other!"
He closed his eyes and shook his head, letting his awkwardness wash over him. "I don't know, Jess."
When he opened his eyes again, Anna was looking at him while she talked to Mickey, and Bob knew it would take even longer to get over the mystery woman now.
--------------------------
Anna couldn't believe Bob was the mystery man from the bookstore. Their chance meeting read like a piece of poetry that had no business being in her life, but the fact that she was meeting him for the second time felt something like fate. And she didn't like it. Not one bit.
He was so handsome, just like Jake and Bradley. Now Anna was wondering what they fed these men in the Navy, because Mickey was very good looking as well. But the more she spoke to him, the more irritated Bob seemed. And she didn't like how his brow was pinching above his glasses. Not compared to the way he'd looked at her in the bookstore.
Her mind was a mess right now. And then she remembered that she actually ran and hid from Bob last time she saw him. She started to panic and look around, silently coming up with an escape route, but it was too late.
"Let's play pool?" Jessica asked a bit cautiously, and that was when Anna fully pieced it all together. Her new friends from work were going to think she wasn't attracted to Bob, but that couldn't have been further from the truth right now. Frankly she didn't know what she should do, so she followed everyone over to the pool table.
Well, everyone except for Bob. He remained at the bar alone, and she couldn't really blame him for not wanting to talk to her after the stunt she pulled in the bookstore. But she was only trying to protect herself. Maybe she could explain that to him.
She was trying to decide if she would have hid from the most attractive man who had given her the time of day in years if she knew it was actually Bob. That's when she set down her empty glass of ginger ale because she was being handed a pool cue and told to team up with Bradley. She went through the motions, playing as well as she could while she chatted with everyone, but she found herself hoping to catch Bob's pretty eyes looking at her. Once she lost and handed the cue to Jessica, she saw him heading her way, and he had a glass of ginger ale in each hand.
"Anna," he said softly in that voice that left her shivering. She took the drink he offered her and tried to act normal, but she was still so startled by what he said earlier.
"Did you really read A Room with a View?" she asked quickly before she lost the nerve.
Bob smiled softly and met her eyes briefly before glancing at the floor. "Every word of it."
She bit her lip to keep from screaming. Kevin never once read any of the novels she suggested for him, preferring modern horror monstrosities instead. And then he went and actually turned her life into a horrific monstrosity which she should have probably seen coming. But right here in front of her was Bob who she had actually already met and formed a pitiful crush on, and she couldn't bring herself to say more than, "I'm happy you read it."
He was blushing now as he sipped his own ginger ale before saying, "Yeah, it was great. I wouldn't mind some more of your book recommendations, honestly. As long as you don't try to get me to read that Vonnegut."
"Cat's Cradle," she said with a laugh that had his gaze snapping back up to hers. His eyes were hopeful as she smiled at him, but she rubbed her hand along her forehead and said, "I'm sorry I... vanished. The other day."
"What happened? I told Mickey I needed a minute, and you were just gone."
She wanted to be honest with him, but she didn't know how to explain herself. And now she was starting to feel like she and Bob were in a fishbowl; so many pairs of eyes were looking their way with next to no subtlety. She cleared her throat and decided to avoid his question. "Have you read any Jane Austen?"
He looked a bit disappointed by her response, but he said, "I have not."
"I think you'd enjoy Persuasion. Or Northanger Abbey. What about Virginia Woolf?"
Bob shook his head. "I feel like I'm about to embarrass myself again like I did last weekend at the bookstore, but no, I haven't read either."
Anna practically moaned at his bashful expression and pink cheeks. He smelled so good, it was unbelievable. Why did she feel so drawn to him? Why couldn't she stop herself from taking a step closer when he muttered, "As soon as you said you knew what Cat's Cradle was about, I figured I was in way over my head. The classics kind of elude me. I'm actually more of a poetry buff."
"Poetry?" she gasped, heart pounding at an overwhelming rate as he swirled his glass of ginger ale around with nonchalance. As if he hadn't just said the sexiest thing any man had ever told her.
"Are the two of you just going to stand here and play footsie all night?"
Anna looked up to see Jake with a smirk on his face right in front of her. She didn't even notice anyone else in her vicinity before he spoke. Bob was shaking his head and already taking a step away from her when she asked, "Do you want me to text you some more recommendations?"
Bob froze and turned to look at her with a soft smile. "That'd be great." When she handed him her unlocked phone, he quickly added his number before handing it back to her. His calloused fingers felt even more exhilarating this time, which was very bad, because she'd already been thinking about the way he accidentally touched her at the bookstore on repeat.
"I'll send you some of my ideas," she muttered, pocketing her phone again before allowing Jake to pull her away toward the pool table again. She tried her best not to let her attention return to Bob over and over again, but she mostly failed. Sure enough, after a while, she saw another woman break the perimeter of the pool table and make a beeline toward Bradley before eventually turning toward Bob.
She was really pretty with shiny brown hair, and it made Anna uncomfortable when she touched Bob's arm. It wasn't fair. He was so lovely and soft spoken and handsome. He was even wearing a shirt Kevin would have never been caught dead in, but it made Anna smile. In another version of her life, she would have gone for it tonight. Instead she got to watch the brunette woman hand him her phone just like she'd done a few minutes prior.
"It's pretty late," she said suddenly even though she had no idea what time it actually was. "I'm going to head out."
Advanced Calculus and Advanced Physics both looked a little alarmed. "Already?"
"Yeah," she said, setting down her ginger ale and trying to skirt past Bob and the unknown woman. She gave both of her friends a quick hug and said, "I have a lot to prepare for my upcoming classes this weekend."
"Let me walk you to your car," Bob replied immediately, slipping away from the brunette to be closer to Anna. "Maybe you can give me the titles of the Jane Austen books again?" His cheeks were flushed, and the other woman looked annoyed now which did make Anna smile.
"Persuasion and Northanger Abbey," she repeated for him as she started to walk past the bar sending a wave in the direction of the pool table. Bob was following her now as she added, "And I don't have a car, so there's nothing to walk me to."
"Persuasion and Northanger Abbey," he repeated softly to himself. "Will you let me drive you home then?" he asked hopefully. "All I had to drink was ginger ale."
Anna let herself look up at him before she shook her head. "I'll get an Uber, but thanks for offering. It was nice to meet you. Again."
"It sure was," he agreed as he continued to follow her all the way to the door.
With one last glance over her shoulder, she noticed the dark haired woman on her tiptoes looking around for Bob. "Your brunette friend is looking for you," Anna said softly before slipping outside into the cool night air and opening the rideshare app on her phone. Bob didn't follow her any further, and she rode home with disappointment and sadness thrumming through her body. She was out of cheap wine, but at least she had her favorite poetry website to keep her company.
-------------------------
Bob groaned as he nudged his glasses up his nose and pressed his fingertips to his eyes until he was seeing stars. "But I like redheads," he moaned to himself. He could not believe it. He really just couldn't get over the fact that tonight of all nights some random woman started to chat him up. Anna could barely look at him to begin with, but now he'd be damn lucky if she actually texted him the book recommendations at all.
His dream girl was Anna. Anna was the perfect woman he met at the bookstore. Anna was the one he'd been thinking about nonstop, but now he had confirmation that she wasn't into him. That's why she vanished last weekend. That's why she gave him the cold shoulder tonight when he was practically tripping over himself at the sight of her. She was perfect. He was just hopeless. He could keep thinking about her, but what was the point? Now that he knew she worked with his friends, he had to stop this crush in its tracks and try to save face.
"There you are, Robby." A hand snaked around his side to his abs, and he almost jumped a foot in the air. He hated being called that, and he hated that Anna saw this woman talking to him.
"Hi," he said cautiously, taking a step away from her.
"Is the redhead your girlfriend?" she asked, clearly annoyed now.
Bob sighed and said, "I wish."
She rolled her eyes and vanished back into the crowd, leaving him alone again. He never imagined he'd have such an eventful night involving the fairer sex. "Damn it," he whispered as he made his way back toward the pool table to his friends.
"There he is!" Bradley called out with his hands cupped around his mouth. "Big ol' Bob! Did you just give your phone number to not one but two women?"
His wife and Jessica both looked mad now. "I thought you liked Anna," Jessica snapped. "Once we realized she was the redhead from the bookstore, we thought you'd probably end up sneaking off with her or something."
Bob could feel the heat rising in his face. "Come on," he replied, giving Jessica a look. "There's no way that would have happened. And I didn't give that other woman my number. I didn't even want to talk to her." In a softer voice, he added, "She just started touching me for no reason."
Bradley's wife pulled Bob in for a quick hug as she said, "Pretty soon, you'll be as good at dodging them as Bradley is." She looked him in the eye and quietly asked, "Now what happened with Anna?"
"I don't really know." That was his honest answer. "I was excited to see her again. I guess I imagined she vanished in the bookstore like some sort of romanticized Cinderella fairytale or something stupid when in reality she just... kind of got tired of talking to me. She seemed a little uncomfortable when she saw me again tonight, so that must be it."
"I think you're wrong," she said with conviction that almost made Bob believe it himself. "Jess and I will ask her about it next week."
"Please don't," he groaned, shaking his head. "I'm going to go home. See you at D&D tomorrow," he told Jessica before stopping by the bar to pay for the ginger ales, but Penny just waved him on. He left her a ten dollar tip and walked out to his truck.
It wasn't even that late, and when he parked in front of his duplex, his elderly next door neighbor was still awake with her door propped open for her cat to come back inside. As Bob trudged up the shared walkway with his key in hand, she called out, "Robert! Is that you?"
"Hi, Suzanne," he replied with a laugh. "It's me."
She was sitting on her couch, and he could hear game show reruns playing as she loudly said, "You're home pretty early for a Friday night. Still haven't found a girlfriend?"
Bob groaned. He could kick himself for even mentioning that he wished he had a girlfriend a few weeks ago when he took dinner over for her one Sunday evening. "Still single," he confirmed as he headed for his front door which was all of ten feet away from hers.
She scoffed, and Bob saw her massive cat, Sylvester, streak back inside. "You must not be trying very hard, Robert. Handsome, strong thing like you."
It was like arguing with his grandma, so he just avoided it completely. "Okay, I saw Sylvester run inside, so I'm going to close your front door. Make sure you lock it before you go to sleep. Good night, Suzanne."
He pulled her door closed for her and then unlocked his, and he walked inside to find his copy of A Room with a View sitting on the coffee table. It seemed to be taunting him like it knew he'd seen the adorable redhead again. And struck out a second time. He was confused and hurt and annoyed, and he just wanted to go to bed and pretend like he wasn't as hopeless as he felt.

guys. we are missing out on the potential of an elementary school PTA au for qsmp. think real housewives kind of drama. quackity is the PTA president because he's old friends with a lot of the school board even though he doesn't show up to like half the meetings because he's busy. there's so much gossip about who the father of his kid is and he definitely gets judgemental side eye from the other parents about it. tilin is doing well at least? even if they do spend more time at roier and jaiden's house than their own sometimes.
bad is another other single parent but he doesn't get gossiped about because he always runs the bake sale fundraiser and does a great job at it so no one wants to upset him. bad and dapper are the type of parent child duo where bad keeps dapper up to date on ALL the drama going on with the other parents (to a child friendly degree) and dapper is going to grow up to be the worst gossip just like his dad.
no one knows what the fuck is going on with charlie and mariana's marriage. if you ask charlie they're in the middle of a divorce. if you ask mariana they're doing perfectly well they just got into a couple's spat this week and charlie is dramatic. what do you mean it happens every week? no no you misunderstood they're doing fine they're definitely not getting a divorce. literally the only thing they have going for them is how both of them went to bat for juanaflippa when she told them she was a girl it's the sole reason the other parents respect them. what's a more pressing issue is that juanaflippa keeps trying to start fights on the playground and instead of discouraging her charlie and mariana both cheer her on and give her lessons on how to punch people.
phil is one of the older parents and is already experienced since he has an adult child and wasn't planning on having another, but he's done the parent game before which is probably part of why chayanne is at the top of his class while also excelling in his karate classes, softball practice, cross country team, etc. missa is his trophy husband who's just happy to be there. literal "she's everything / he's just ken" moment.
yknow when there's that one mom in the PTA group who is very stereotypically attractive and everyone is convinced she was the mistress for her current husband and caused his last divorce? that's foolish. no one trusts him to be around their partners despite the fact that he didn't cheat!!! at the same time, the minute doors are closed everyone is trying to flirt with him and gets frustrated when he insists he's loyal to vegetta. at least leonarda seems happy.
jaiden and roier are like the picture perfect parents with bobby. he and chayanne constantly compete for the top spot in their class. both jaiden and roier work as lawyers and there was a rumor going around that they were representing charlie and mariana respectively for potential divorce number 3 but this didn't seem to cause any tension between them. roier takes over to lead the PTA meetings when quackity can't make it while jaiden sits in the corner awkwardly trying to keep charlie from getting into an argument with mariana again.
no one has seen spreen in ages. there's another rumored divorce going on between him and fit but instead of making it as public as charlie and mariana's problems fit just makes snide comments about his absent husband here and there.
tallulah transferred to the school in the middle of the year and phil invited wilbur to the PTA meetings so he could be involved in the school. quackity and wilbur are exes and while wilbur insists tilin isn't his kid no one quite believes him. he's a very young single parent though and clearly has no idea what he's doing so even if it's a bit strange that his kid is almost the same age as his little brother chayanne, the other parents are relieved that phil seems to be taking the reigns to help him out. also wilbur is a famous musician and he's gotten asked for autographs from some of the other parents of kids in tallulah's class.
dan and maxo only showed up to the first PTA meeting and never came back. trump transferred schools and no one has heard from them since.

“Go change your clothes, we’re going to see Uncle Mason, he’s in London.” You said to Olivia, your 7 years old daughter.
“Can I use my new dress? The blue one.” She said, getting up and getting out of your bed.
“Sure, call me if you need help.” You said and she agreed, leaving your room. You smiled to yourself, knowing she can handle everything on her own, but you offer help just the same. She is a girl with her own opinion and no one can change her mind.
Olivia is your greatest gift.
You got pregnant early, you were only 18 when you found out and your life turned upside down. Your father wasn't very happy when he found out you were pregnant and that's why you decided to find a place for you and live on your own, giving up on going to college and focusing on having a full-time job to pay the bills and try to provide comfort for your baby. Your mother and your younger sister always helped you, as did your friends, who were the best in the world.
Mason and Ayla always helped you, they stayed with you in the good and bad moments, that's why they were both Olivia's godparents. Mason offered you his own house for a few months, Ayla bought Olivia lots of clothes and diapers, and always helped you when you were sad and felt ugly because of your big belly.
Living with your best friend for a few months was when you realized you were in love with him. Mason was funny, kind, and stood by you when it seemed like the worst time of your life. You weren't sure you'd stay with Olivia, but when you saw that beautiful face, you had no doubt that she was the greatest love of your life.
You blamed it on hormones for a long time, but when Mason was the one who stayed with you when she was born, you knew it was love. But Mason had become a professional player, he was busy with Chelsea and that's why you never said anything, nor did you ever want to tie him to you.
Him being great with Olivia didn't help much, you drooled every time he held your daughter. Mason used to see her almost every day after training, sometimes Ayla was there too but she worked and couldn't always come to your house. Olivia is also in love with Uncle Mason, but she doesn't hide it from anyone, unlike you.
You never showed your feelings for Mason, so little by little you kept everything locked inside you. Mason had several girlfriends, several one-night stands, and you also met some interesting guys. Some were idiots and left you when they found out you had a daughter, others knew but didn't like her, and the one you liked the most, Matty, left to work in China with no plans to return to England.
Mason was Olivia's favorite adult, and even when he moved to Manchester, he called her almost every day, sent her some gifts and whenever possible came to see her in London.
“Mum, can you tie my hair?” Olivia asked and entered your room while you were putting on some clothes. Summer was close and the days were getting hotter, so you wore a black skirt and a white blouse, sandals and tied your hair up like Olivia. Mason sent you a message inviting you and Olivia to dinner, he was only spending two days in London and would soon return to Manchester.
“Do you want to do makeup?” You asked her but she denied. “Do you want help tying your shoelaces?”
“Yes, please, mum.” She said and you smiled at her, your polite girl. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome babe, give me a hug.” You bent down and Olivia hugged you, then you pulled her onto your lap. She was growing so fast, but she was still your baby. “You’re so pretty.”
“Yes, ‘cause I’m just like you.” She said and rolled her eyes, you couldn't help but laugh at her. It was true, Olivia was a lot like you. Her father was a one-night stand and you never had contact with him again, but every day you try to be enough for her.
And you never lied to her, every time she asked if she had a father, you explained that you didn't know where he lived or how to talk to him, you never left her waiting for someone who wouldn't show up, and little by little she focused only on you and the family and friends she has.
Olivia was a happy girl. You always tried to teach her to be polite, you didn't yell at her, you always woke her up with a smile, and the same customs you taught her, she learned.
“Are you ready?” You asked and she agreed, giving you her hand and you walked to the living room to get your bag. “Uncle Mason will buy you sushi.”
“That’s why he’s my favorite Uncle.” She said and you laughed again, Mason knows sushi is her favorite food and he always wants to take her to eat sushi with him, even if you don't like it. Mason found a companion for Japanese restaurants and it was Olivia, when at the age of five Ayla gave her sushi and she loved it, and you always chose yakisoba, because you didn't like sushi, but you always took her to dinner with her godfather.
“Just because he buys you sushi? I'll tell him.” You say before entering the elevator, still holding her hand.
“He won't mind, he loves me very much.” She says and blows you a kiss, packing her own pink bag.
“You think you're too much, little girl.” You say while fixing her hair. The uber was already waiting for you and in fifteen minutes you arrived at the restaurant that Mason told you he was waiting for you two. Ayla was traveling with her fiancé and couldn't make it to the dinner, so it would just be the three of you.
“Look, Mason is there.” You point to where Mason was on his phone sitting at a table alone, then Olivia ran over before you could catch her. She called out to him and several people in the restaurant looked at her, making you feel embarrassed at the attention.
Mason smiled when he heard it and stood up, bending down to catch her as she threw herself into his arms. You approached smiling, noticing that Mason hugged her for a few seconds and they were both smiling.
“I missed you so much, look how big you are.” He said and set her down again, kneeling down to leave a kiss on her cheek.
“I missed you too, Uncle Masey.” She said, sitting on the chair and looking at you.
“Hello.” You said and Mason got up, he hugged you tightly and you smelled his perfume, it had been the same for years and it never stopped being good. “You good?”
“Hey, Y/N.” He whispered in your ear. “I missed you too.”
“I bet Manchester is great, you haven't come to London anymore.” You teased and he smiled, then you sat down again while Olivia looked at the menu.
“I'm busy there after the injury, but I think next season I'll be able to play and things will get better.” He said and you gave him a confident smile, but soon he looked at Olivia again. “What about you, pumpkin? How is school?”
“Good, I'm learning how to do math and about plants.” She said, ignoring Mason and looking at you. “Mum, can I order a juice?”
“Sure.” She took out the tablet and you and Mason helped her place the order herself, then she placed an order for the two of you too. You spent dinner talking, Mason told him some news about the team, you listened to Olivia talk about some of her friends from school to him and you told him a little about your work.
As always, she and Mason ate several pieces of sushi while you tried to ignore the fishy smell, which made you feel sick. You didn't know that food could make a child as happy as it made Olivia happy.
“Do you want dessert, honey?” You asked her, but she denied. “For real? I want a brownie with ice cream, don't you want to share it with me?”
“No, mum, I am satisfied.” She said and you and Mason laughed.
“Okay, little lady. Do you want to share with me?” You asked Mason, but just like Olivia, he denied.
“No sugar for me, sorry.”
“Mum, can I go there to see the playground?” Olivia asked and pointed to the outside, sheltered area where some children were playing.
“Yes, but be careful not to get hurt.” She barely heard you and was soon running outside, leaving you and Mason alone.
“So, how are things around here?” He asked, placing his hand on the table and offering it for you to hold. You rested your hand on his and squeezed. “I talk to Olivia more than I talk to you.”
“It's not my fault she takes the phone all to herself when you call.” He smiled, looking more beautiful than ever. Mason is wearing a black t-shirt and jeans and white sneakers. He is simple and beautiful and you try to ignore your attraction to him. “Everything is fine, I got promoted at work and Olivia started French class, now she says things that I don't know what they mean.”
“Have you spoken to Ayla?”
“Yes, she is in Portugal with Robert, the last trip before the wedding.” You took out your phone and showed some photos she sent you to Mason. “She is so happy, I can’t believe they’re getting married.”
“I remember when she met him, I would never have said they would get married.” He said and took another sip of water, still looking at you. “How about you? Any guy in your life?”
“Ah, of course I have, before coming here I sent one away. He was annoying me because he is in love with me.” You said ironically and Mason snorted. “Last week a man said hi to me at the grocery store and Olivia asked why I was panting in front of him.”
“She’s my favorite.” Mason was laughing at you, and you blushed as you remembered the scene. “But seriously, no one?”
You shook your head and gave Mason a small smile.
“I don't think it's right to put someone in her life now and take them away if it doesn't work out, I need to think more about Olivia than myself.”
“You can't forget yourself, Y/N. I know you love Olivia and want to do the best for her, but you still have a life and you are young.” You looked at the ground, blushing. “You still haven't found the right guy.”
“Men don't like a single mother.”
“You are looking for the wrong men.” Mason winked at you, but you didn't understand. Olivia went back to the table to drink water, but then quickly ran to the playground.
“Why don't you go to a game in Manchester? We are at the end of the season and I would like Olivia to come see me. It's been a few months since she's watched a match.”
“I need to see her school calendar, she can't miss many classes, but we can arrange it.”
“And you need to watch a match too, it's been a while since I've had my lucky charm cheering me on.”
“Stop it, I’m not your lucky charm.” Your face turned red.
“Yes you are, you haven't watched the matches in almost a year and the season was shit.” He said and smiled at you. “Summer is coming, I think it would be a good idea if you and Olivia spent the vacations with me and my family, what do you think? Do you already have plans?”
“She's been asking to go to the beach, so I think I'll take her for a few days. I hope it's sunny so she can enjoy it.”
“We’re going to Greece, you wanna come? I would love to have you there.”
“No, sorry. I don't want to ruin your family vacation, and Greece must be very expensive.”
“You know I can pay for everything.”
“I know but it's not fair, I don't want you to spend money on me or Olivia.”
“But I’m her godfather.” Mason grumbled. “And you’re my best friend, I just want to give you both good presents.”
“And I thank you for that, Mason, but that’s too much.” You said, and he snorted. “Maybe we can take her to the beach together when you get back.”
“I'm going to Portugal after Greece for pre-season, I don't think I'll be back in London until July.”
“Another time then.”

Mason insisted on taking you and Olivia home. She played a lot and ended up sleeping in the car and you and Mason talked quietly to not wake her up. When he parked in front of the building, he insisted on carrying Olivia to your apartment, knowing that you wouldn't be able to do everything with her in your arms.
Mason was so careful with her that your heart melted when you saw him leave a kiss on her forehead, murmuring a few words even though he knew she wasn't listening.
“I always miss you two when I'm in Manchester.” Mason said as he closed Olivia's bedroom door. You were standing in the hallway waiting for him, so the two of you walked to the kitchen, speaking quietly so she wouldn't wake up.
“C’mon, you have a lot of friends there.”
“Yes, but I miss my favorite girl in the world.” He said, accepting the cup of tea you offered. “There's a party in Manchester next week, I invited Ayla and Robert and I'd like you to go too.”
“A party?” You raised your eyebrows, not really liking the idea of not taking your daughter with you.
“It's a Man U party, I want you to go. My family is going away and they won't be able to go, and I don't want to be alone there.”
“I don’t know, I don't want to leave Olivia alone.”
“Leave her with your mom and sister, you need to have some fun too.”
“I will think about it.” You spoke quietly, but Mason agreed. He would probably spend the rest of the week urging you to go.
You and Mason hadn't gone out alone for years, you used to go to a lot of parties before you got pregnant, after that he continued going to a lot of parties and meeting a lot of people, but you had a baby to take care of. Now you usually go to some restaurants, birthday parties, school presentations, swimming lessons and to your parents' or Ayla's house.
“I need to go now, I have an early meeting tomorrow and then I'm going back to Manchester.” Mason said, taking the cup of tea to the kitchen sink.
“Okay, I'll let you know if I decide to go to Manchester.”
“Please go, it will be fun.” He said smiling at you, and it made you melt like butter. “I’ll miss you until then.”
“Don’t be silly, you'll have a lot to do until next week.” You respond, leaving a light slap on his arm and making him mumble.
“And I still miss my best friend.”
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
“I live for you, I long for you, Olivia, I've been idolizing the light in your eyes, Olivia…” You sang softly as you packed your bags for the short trip to Manchester. “The summertime and butterflies, all belong to your creation, I love you, it's all I do, I love you…”
“How many days will you stay there?” Olivia asked. She was lying in your bed quietly, she was watching a movie while you were packing your clothes and she was keeping you company.
“Three days, my love.” You replied, organizing your hygiene items. “Mommy is leaving tomorrow morning and I'll be back Sunday night. You won't even have time to miss me.”
“But I will, you've never left me alone for so long.” She spoke, and when you looked at her, you saw that her eyes were teary. She was wearing pink pajamas that she changed into after her shower, so she lay next to you in your bed in silence, now you understood why.
“Oh, my sweet girl, don’t cry or I’ll cry too.” You got up and laid down next to her, hugging your sentimental girl. “You will have fun with nanna and your aunt, they will take you to some fun places.”
“But what if I need to talk to you?”
“You can call me, I will always answer you, dear. And if I don't answer, you know you can call Mason.” She agreed, so you left a kiss on her forehead and got up to continue packing your things. Your heart was already hurting, you had never spent more than a day away from Olivia and you would be lying if you said you weren't scared.
But maybe Mason was right, it was time to have some fun and remember that you're only twenty-five.
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
“The size of this house is shameful.” You spoke quietly to Ayla as the two of you opened all the doors to see the rooms and Mason and Robert were in the room after Mason picked the three of you up. “We can get lost here.”
“Look at that bathtub, I'm going to ask Mason if I can have this room.” You agreed, then you both went downstairs again.
Mason picked you up and not even he believed you traveled there, even though you told him you were going to Manchester. He probably thought you were joking, even more so because they all know that you never left Olivia for more than a day and took her everywhere with you, or you just didn't go.
You spent almost five minutes saying goodbye to her, hugging and kissing your little girl, who was also a little sad about being away from her mommy for a few days. You promised gifts and calls every day until you returned home. Olivia was your best company, you always had her in your arms and you always taught her that she could count on you for everything. You were best friends.
“Did you guys have fun snooping around my house?” Mason asked as he offered you both a soda. “Did you like the house?”
“Oh we like it.” She replied and gave Mason a mischievous smile. “I want to have the room with the bathtub.”
“A bathtub? I'm enjoying this trip even more.” Robert said and you laughed, just like Mason.
“You’re disgusting, this is my house.” Mason said, closing his eyes and trying to get the image out of his head.
You sat on the couch next to Mason, and he wrapped his arm around your shoulders, pulling you close to him. You had a calm friendship, you loved Mason and he loved you, as a friend. But you always hugged each other, you were always together, and people got used to seeing you like that.
“Was Olivia okay?” He asked quietly, just for you. Ayla and Robert got up to look at the trophies and medals displayed in the room.
“I think she was a little sad, I never left her alone for so long. She cried yesterday and was worried in case she needed me.”
“Aww, she loves her mommy so much.” Mason smiled and gave you a kiss on your forehead. “I thought we could go out to dinner today, what do you think? Or we can order something and have a game night, just like the old days.”
“Both options sound great to me.”
Ayla and Robert preferred to stay at home, so Mason ordered pizza and you spent several hours playing games he had. Close to bedtime Olivia called, and you spent almost fifteen minutes talking to your daughter before hanging up. She looked sad, and even if she didn't let it show, you knew your girl very well.
Your mother said they went for a walk in the afternoon, but Olivia said a few times that you would be gone for many days and that made your heart hurt. You walked back into the room and Mason and Ayla were arguing over the rules of the game. Years ago it was common, you were used to the two of them fighting and you felt happy to be able to remember those times, even though now everything was different.
“Y/N, tell him how the game works.” Ayla said, angry.
“You don't know anything, Ayla. That's not how it works, read the manual.” Mason shot back.
“I don’t have to, because I know.”
“Oh Lord.” Robert said, and you placed your hand on his shoulder.
“This is what I've been putting up with for many years.”
In the end, you decided to play Uno, which was the best option. You and Mason won almost every time because no one was as competitive as you.
“I'm going to training early tomorrow, but I'll be back before lunch.” He said when you went upstairs to get ready to bed.
“Alright, we'll wait for you.” You smiled and Mason stopped at the door to his bedroom. Ayla and Robert had already gone to sleep a few minutes ago. “Good night, Mase.”
“Good night, Y/N.”
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
“Hey, wake up.” Mason whispered in your ear, giving you goosebumps. He left kisses down your back, running his hands over your body as he brought his warm body closer to yours. You were sweating.
You moaned as Mason fitted his hips between your legs and pressed you against the mattress. His kisses were so good that you could barely open your eyes as you felt his body on top of yours.
“This is so good, Mason.” You moaned, and he continued whispering nonsense in your ear while his hands ran over your ass.
And you woke up.
You sat up in bed, breathing heavily, wondering what had happened. The room was dark and only you were there.
Oh. My. God.
Did you have an erotic dream about your best friend? You're crazy, that's all it can be. Was it just you or was the house too hot?
You got up and left the room, going downstairs to the kitchen to get a glass of water. You didn't even notice, but Mason was lying on the couch and you walked past him quickly, so he followed you. You didn't even turn on the kitchen light, you just looked for a glass and opened the fridge to get the bottle of water.
“Are you okay?” You jumped in fright when you heard Mason's voice behind you, and your heart sped up even more.
“Are you trying to kill me?” You asked, putting your hands in your chest. “Oh my God.”
“I’m sorry, I didn't mean to scare you, but I was lying on the couch and you walked past me and didn't even see me.” He spoke and walked over, then took the glass from your hand and filled it with water for you. “What’s wrong?”
You didn't say anything, in fact, you didn't know what to respond. Surely telling your best friend that you had a wet dream about him was not an option. Your body was still hot and with Mason staring at you you seemed to burn even more.
“Nightmares.” You spoke quietly and turned around, leaning on the counter behind you.
Mason tried to look away from your legs, but the short pajamas didn't help and drew your curves. Mason hadn't seen you this comfortable in a long time, and he cleared his throat when he saw your breasts showing as well.
Surely the last thing Mason wanted to do was notice his best friend's body. But it was inevitable, and when you turned around, Mason couldn't hide the fact that he was looking at your legs and ass. He turned red and your breathing quickened again as you remembered your wet dream, but you didn't say anything.
“Can't sleep?” You asked and Mason agreed.
“Kind of, I'm tired from training and sometimes I get very anxious because of the season and the pressure.” Mason spoke and got him a bottle of water. You looked at the clock and it was already past 2 am, and the day would be long.
“I'm going back to the room, you coming?”
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
“What? I can hear you, the music is too loud.” You said to Ayla, while a Rihanna song played around the place. It was so loud that you couldn't hear anything anyone else was saying. You arrived an hour ago, Mason introduced you to the players and families and you were happy that he had so many friends in Manchester.
Mason is happy, kind and makes friends wherever he goes, unlike you who have few and almost no new friends. You and Ayla didn't leave the food table and Robert looked embarrassed when he looked at the two of you trying all the food there.
It was for free, no one could judge you.
After an hour, you and Ayla had already had several drinks and you were totally dizzy. You hadn’t had anything but a glass of wine in months and it was the first time in a long time that you had allowed yourself to drink like that. And that's why you're not thinking straight.
Mason was next to you and he had drunk as much as you, and soon the two of you were in the middle of the dance floor with lots of other people dancing, just like in the old days when you used to go out and dance the night away, having so much fun.
“I was looking at you and that dress looks great on you, you look beautiful.” Mason spoke in your ear, and it made you smile.
“Oh, you think? It was something old I had in my closet.” He smiled at you, placing his hand on your waist. You weren't thinking straight, either of you.
“Red looks so good on you, I love when you use this color. You look sexy.” You placed your hand on his chest, bracing yourself when someone bumped into you. Mason caught you and stopped you from falling, then he put his hand on your back and you put a hand on his arm, squeezing. You knew you were drunk, but Mason looked prettier than usual and when you realized that, you stared at him.
“Really?” You asked and he agreed, bringing his mouth closer to your ear once again and making you shiver.
“In fact, since you were ready, all I could think about was how beautiful you look.” He left a light kiss on your shoulder and you sighed, not believing what was happening. Was this another dream? “The most beautiful woman in this place.”
You turned your face away and looked at Mason, a little scared by his words, but your heart was racing in your chest and you couldn't believe what he was saying.
“What?”
“I'm serious, I've been dying to kiss you since you showed up wearing that dress.” You couldn’t respond because Mason kissed you, and it felt so good that your legs felt weak.
Even though you were scared, the drink didn't stop you from kissing him back, and that's why you kissed Mason among many strangers. You hoped Ayla wasn't seeing this. His lips were so soft that you felt like you wanted to kiss him forever. His tongue against yours gave you goosebumps and you wrapped your arms around his shoulders, scratching the back of his neck with the tips of your nails.
When you needed to breathe, you pulled away a little and Mason moved his kisses down to your neck. It was exactly like your dream, but this time it was true. His mouth was as soft as you imagined, and everything felt warm, the music had disappeared and just the two of you were there.
“Mason... there are a lot of people here.” You whispered and he held you tighter against him.
“Do you wanna go home with me?”
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
“Your skin is so soft.” Mason pressed you against the wall when you entered his house. You didn't even tell Ayla and Robert that you had left and called a taxi to get home as quickly as possible. Your body was burning for Mason, he hadn't let go of you for a minute since you got in the taxi. He left several kisses and marks all over your neck, but even drunk, you tried to have respect for the driver.
Mason almost dragged you out of the car when you arrived, and soon he was on you again, kissing you hard and so, so good. Mason almost dragged you out of the car when you arrived, and soon he was on top of you again, kissing you hard. You had already imagined it, but it never got that far.
“Oh, lord.” You sighed as Mason reached for the zipper of your dress and pulled it, not caring that you were in the middle of his living room, and when the dress fell to the floor, Mason's eyes lit up.
“You are so beautiful, look at you.” He whispered, placing his hands on you and running his tongue along your neck once more. You were only in your underwear in front of Mason, and you were as comfortable as you had ever been just because of the way he was looking at you. Mason picked you up and while you were kissing he walked up the stairs to his room, tripping a few times as you laughed between kisses.
“I think I'm drunk.” You said and Mason laughed when he placed you on the mattress.
“Me too, and I don't care.” He spoke slowly. Mason took off his shirt and you were able to admire his defined arms and chest, almost salivating at being able to touch him for the first time in the way you wanted.
Mason climbed on top of you and you wrapped your legs around his hips as he kissed you again, this time with much more desire. You ran your nails down his back and Mason groaned, pressing his hips against yours and making you feel his bulge.
“I've wanted to do this for so many years.” He spoke before bringing his mouth to your breasts, licking your nipple and holding the other with his free hand. You whimpered and pulled on his hair, feeling Mason gasp.
You pushed Mason and laid him down on the bed, climbing on top of him and fitting your groin against him, which made him sigh. You opened the button on his pants and pulled them off, leaving him only in his underwear, just like you. You sighed at the sight of his erection, just because of you.
“These tattoos make you look very sexy.”
“Yeah?” he asked with a mischievous smile, then pulled you closer to him again to kiss you, but you brought your lips to his neck and kissed it, moving your kisses down to his chest, feeling Mason gasp. “You’re driving me crazy.”
You slid your hands down his abdomen, then reached down and pulled down his underwear, making his hard cock appear, it was already fully erect and you moaned at the sight you saw. He was dripping wet and you didn't think you would see something so beautiful. You couldn’t wait to have it totally inside your mouth, just like you dreamed for a long time.
“This is all for me?” You asked, grabbing his cock and moving it up and down with your hand, and you bit your lip when you saw Mason close his eyes.
“Yeah, just like that, Y/n.” He moaned as you increased your movements. “I wanna feel your mouth all over my dick.” You got hornier when you saw him wanting to feel your mouth on his cock, and you wanted to feel it as much as he did.
You got up and got out of bed, then asked Mason to sit on the edge of the bed while you knelt on the floor. Thank goodness your hair was tied back in a ponytail.
Mason's mouth fell open as he watched you kneeling for him, so when you came closer and put his cock in your mouth, he moaned and lay back down on the mattress. You put everything in your mouth and started making back and forth movements, and what your mouth couldn't reach, you used your hands. You took your mouth off and left long licks along the length, Mason moaned low and hoarse and it was so sexy that you got completely wet.
“Oh..fuck… just like that.”
Mason leaned back on the bed and propped himself up with his elbows as he made eye contact with you. You didn't look away for a second as you took his hard cock into your mouth and continued your movements. Mason brought a hand to your tied hair and held it, controlling the movements the way he wanted.
“Y/N, I’m so fucking close…” He moaned, and you held his thighs, and the other hand you took to his balls, gently caressing. Mason had lost control, he was moaning loudly now as you sucked his cock hard. You saw him shudder and throw his head back.
“I’m cuming” he warned you and you sped up your movements, wanting to make him cum in your mouth. “Ohh… fuck.. fuck.”
Mason came in your mouth, and as he moaned and sighed, his breathing quickened, you swallowed all of his cum. Mason was still spasming when you stood up and took off your panties, sitting on him right after that. Mason moaned as you ground your hips against his sensitive cock, and you leaned in to kiss him as you made him taste himself and you moved your hips to turn him on again.
“I wanna fuck you so bad” Mason murmured into the kiss, then brought a hand to your wet pussy, making you moan. “And I wanna lick this pussy that is dripping for me, I wanna make you scream for me.”
Mason brought his thumb to your clit and pressed, so you sighed and rolled your hips against his hand.
“You can do that, but now I just wanna feel your cock inside me.” You groaned and pulled his hand away, rubbing your pussy in his hard and dripping cock. “I want to ride your dick, Mase.”
“Fuck- yes.” Mason almost begged, so you held his cock in your hand to direct it to your slick folds. You rode his cock and you both moaned loudly, Mason held your waist as you got used to his big, thick cock inside you. “You're so tight.”
“Oh, Mase, it feels so good.” You moaned and began to grind on him, back and forth, pressing your clit against his skin, and up and down. Mason was lying on the bed and you placed your hands on his chest to make it easier to move, then you closed your eyes when you felt Mason's hand on your ass, helping you move up and down. “Oh, fuck.”
“So fucking good, this pussy is so good for me.”
You found that you loved having Mason talk nonsense to you. You found that you loved having Mason talk dirty to you, and he noticed when you moaned when he praised you and you sped up your movements.
You spent a few minutes riding Mason, he was moaning and it was making you hornier, then he grabbed you and pulled you along in a second, making you lie on your side in bed. Mason lay behind you and pulled you against his chest, holding your leg up as he brought his cock down to your pussy. You moaned as he filled you again, laying your head back on the pillow and feeling his warm, sweaty body against your back.
“Oh, yeah, yeah…” Mason held your hair and fucked you from behind, he made quick movements and you looked ready to explode. You never imagined it would be this good.
The effect of the alcohol had worn off, but now you were drunk on Mason. All that was going through your head was him, Mason fucking you, Mason kissing you, Mason holding you against him, Mason whispering how hot you were, how tight you were and that he wanted to cum inside you.
All of this exploded inside you and you felt the orgasm hitting you, moaning his name over and over as he fucked you harder. Mason pressed you against him and he moaned in your ear, and you felt that he had reached his orgasm too. You could feel his cum inside you as you let your head fall back onto the pillow, eyes closed and breathing heavily.
Mason was spreading kisses across your neck and you were still moaning softly, he made a few more movements and soon pulled out of you, leaving you empty. You haven't had sex with someone like that in a long time. You haven't had an orgasm like that in years.
“It was so good.” You said, bringing a hand to Mason's hair, who was still behind you. He was gently caressing your belly, breathing as heavily as you.
“It really was, but I'm not done with you yet.” He said, biting the skin on your neck and probably leaving a mark. You turned to Mason, you were sensitive but wanted more, and he seemed to want the same. You kissed him again and Mason brought his hands to your thighs, squeezing.
Voices were heard on the first floor and you remembered Ayla and Robert, so you moved away from Mason, but he didn't let you get away.
“Shh, forget them.” Mason whispered, then kissed you again. “Sit on my face.”
“What?” You asked, not sure if you heard his request correctly.
“Sit on my face, I wanna lick all over this beautiful pussy.” He spoke and brought his hand to his cock, moving it up and down as he pulled you close to his face. “Do that for me.”
You could get lost in his tongue licking you as you gripped the headboard and let Mason drive you crazy.
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
You woke up and slowly remembered what happened during the night, so you woke up scared when you realized that you had sex with Mason. Mason was sleeping next to you and with his back to you, you didn't even know where your clothes were and you had slept naked next to him, who was also naked.
It was a lot to process.
The house was quiet and you figured Ayla and Robert were still sleeping since they arrived after you, but you and Mason went to sleep when the sun was almost up after countless rounds of sex. In the end, you couldn't blame the alcohol anymore, you were having sex because you wanted to and you wondered if this wouldn't end your friendship.
You got up quietly so as not to wake Mason, then looked for your panties that were thrown on the floor. Where was your dress? You found Mason's shirt and put it on only to run to your room, then left slowly and without making any noise.
You took a shower and put on your gym clothes, then while everyone was sleeping, you went for a walk and checked out the beautiful street where Mason lives. The houses were huge and beautiful, you would love to live in one of these mansions.
But the whole way you wondered what would happen between the two of you from now. You liked Mason and things were sure to change now that you spent a night having sex with him, but how did he feel? He said something about wanting to do this for a while, but was he serious or was it because he was drunk?
Your feelings for Mason had been there for a while, especially because he was great with Olivia and loved her, loved her as much as you did. Olivia loved him too, she always talked about Uncle Mason with a lot of love, but what if that took him away from her? There were a lot of questions and you didn't have the answers, so after thirty minutes of walking, you decided to go back.
You entered the house and saw your dress thrown on the floor, so you ran and picked it up from the floor, going upstairs and putting the dress in your suitcase before anyone saw.
Ayla was in the kitchen preparing breakfast, and you quickly went to help her. She looked at you and smiled mischievously, but you tried to ignore her smile as you helped her cut some fruit.
“Great night, uh?” She asked and tried to look innocent, but you knew she wanted to laugh at you.
“Stop trying to embarrass me.”
“Tell me everything, please, I’m your best friend.” She practically begged, while stirring the pancake batter.
“We had sex, that’s it, but I don’t have anything to tell you because I don’t know what will happen with me and Mason now.”
“I always thought you guys liked each other, to be honest, but you never talked about it with me.”
“What?” You were confused. How come she thought you liked each other?
“Just look at the way you look at each other, how you talk.”
“I don't know, it's complicated, I think all this happened when I stayed at his house after getting pregnant.”
“He was there for you, wasn't he?”
“Yeah, and I think I developed a crush on him, but I had some boyfriends, he has many women and we were never single at the same time.”
“But now you are.”
“I know, but that doesn't mean anything, he might think I'm the same as the women he sleeps with for one night. Maybe things will stay the same.”
“Things may change between you now.”
“I know, but I would never take him away from Olivia. She loves him.”
“And do you love him?” You were quiet for a few seconds.
“I know I love him, but I don't know in what way.”
Ayla didn't answer you and you arranged the table for you two to have breakfast. It was almost noon and you were starving. You were returning to London tomorrow, and it was a cloudy Saturday in Manchester, even though the day was a little warm because of the summer.
“Morning” Mason spoke hoarsely as he entered the kitchen. Robert walked in soon after, and the two of them sat at the table with tired faces.
“Good morning, ladies.” Ayla Ayla joked with them, smiling. You looked at Mason and you were embarrassed to see him staring at you too, and you felt your face red as you remembered everything you did the night before.
He just gave you an indifferent smile, grabbing some coffee and drinking it quietly. You put the fruit on the table and Ayla put the pancakes on, then the two of you sat down and drank coffee in silence, all of you too tired to talk.
“I saw a dress thrown in the living room when we arrived, did you lose your clothes, Y/N?” Robert asked a while later, making you blush once more and almost choke on the piece of banana you were eating. “What happened between you two yesterday?”
“We-”
“Nothing.”
It was Mason who answered. You didn't answer Robert anymore and looked at Mason, questioning his answer. Did you imagine that Mason might act differently after having sex with you, but pretend nothing happened? What kind of guy is he?
Him pretending nothing happened hurt more than you thought. Was he embarrassed to tell people you had sex? It would be easier if he told you he never wanted to do it again.
“Nothing, uh?” You asked and he gulped. “Asshole.”
You pushed the plate away and got up from the chair, leaving the kitchen towards your room as you heard Ayla calling you. You ignored her and went upstairs, wanting to be alone for a few minutes.
You closed the door and looked for your cell phone, maybe talking to Olivia for a bit would calm you down. But you got nervous when you saw several missed calls from your mum, so you called her, who answered on the first ring.
“Hey mum, everything’s okay?”
“Honey, stay calm, but Olivia had an allergic reaction to a candy we bought at the park yesterday and I took her to the hospital-”
“What?” You panicked when you heard the word hospital.
“She is in the emergency room and the doctors are with her there, I'm sorry honey, please forgive me.” Your mom started crying on the phone and you panicked, so you ran to your suitcase to start packing your things.
“Mom, I want to know if she's going to be okay.” You said as you threw your clothes inside, running to the bathroom and taking everything off.
“I don’t know, no one says anything to me. Please forgive me.” She sobbed and you started crying in fear. This trip was the worst idea you ever had, you wouldn't be mad at Mason if you hadn't come and everything would be normal, and most importantly, your daughter would be safe at home and well.
“I'm heading back to London now, call me when you hear anything.”
“I will. I love you.” You wiped away your tears but it was in vain, because you were so scared that you couldn't stop crying. You did all this quickly, wanting to catch the next train to London. You don't know what to do if something happens to Olivia. She's your whole world, you discovered life through her, and thinking that she's in the hospital without you makes you feel guilty.
“Y/N, listen, I don’t- where are you going?” Mason walked into the room, but stopped when he saw that your bags were packed and you were crying.
“I’m going back to London.” You said, grabbing your bag and suitcase, walking to leave the room and not wanting to talk to Mason.
“Are you serious? You're not going to let me say anything?” He held your arm and stopped you from leaving.
“Mason, I don’t fucking care about you and what you want to say, my daughter is in the hospital and I need to go back to London.” You pulled your arm and Mason let go of you, you ran downstairs and he followed you, calling you.
“What? Olivia is in the hospital? Why?” He looked worried, and when you arrived in the room, Ayla and Robert heard and were worried too.
“What happened?” Ayla asked and walked over to you, worried when she saw how much you were crying.
“I don’t know, my mother said that they bought some candy at the park yesterday and when she ate that today, she had an allergic reaction.” You sobbed, putting your hands over your eyes and feeling the fear, the guilt, the panic hit you all at once. “She’s in the emergency room and no one says anything to my mum, she doesn't know how she is. She couldn't breathe, my little girl.”
“It’s okay, she’ll be fine.” Ayla said, but you denied.
“I shouldn't have come here, I'm going back to London now, you guys stay here, I'll call and let you know how she is.”
“We’ll go with you.” Ayla said.
“No, I want to catch the next train.” You looked at Robert. “Can you take me to the station?”
“I'll take you.” Mason spoke, and he was pale, probably worried about Olivia too.
“No.”
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
“Hey, bunny.” You said when Olivia woke up, relieved to see your little girl back to normal. “Mum is here.”
You arrived in London an hour ago and went straight to the hospital. Your mother apologized to you several times when you arrived, crying, but you assured her that it wasn't her fault, because even you didn't know that Olivia could have an allergic reaction to a candy.
The doctor explained that she was fine, and that the allergic reaction was caused by a type of nut she ate. You cried when you entered the room and saw her sleeping peacefully, and for an hour you admired Olivia sleeping, thanking God and the doctors that she was okay.
Olivia seemed scared of the room, but when you sat down next to her and held her hand, she calmed down. Her lips began to tremble and her eyes filled with tears. You couldn't hold it in, and began to cry when you saw her sad.
“I couldn't breathe, mum.” She sobbed, and you bent down and hugged her, smelling the strawberry scent of her favorite perfume. “My throat hurt a lot.”
“I know, babe, I know. I promise I'll never leave you alone again, okay? Do you forgive your mummy?” You spoke softly to her, and she nodded, leaving a kiss on your cheek. “My sweet girl, I was so scared.”
You couldn't stop crying for a while, but now it was from relief to see her okay, and you just wanted to take her home and hug her for hours.
“Don’t cry, mommy.” She said, placing her small hands on your cheeks and pulling your lips into a fake smile. “Big girls don’t cry.”
“You're right, but it's okay to cry sometimes, especially when I know my little girl is fine.”
“I'll never eat candy again, mum. I was so scared.” She confessed and you smiled sadly at her, hugging her once more. “I wanna go home.”
“We're going home soon, okay?”
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
“And how are you feeling now?” You heard Mason ask Olivia while you were washing some dishes from dinner, Olivia was sitting at the counter and answered the phone when Mason called.
It was already Sunday, Ayla and Robert had already returned to London and went to visit Olivia when they arrived. Mason had sent you a few messages, but you didn't reply to any of them and only answered the call because your daughter answered.
“I'm fine, uncle Masey, I just cried a little yesterday because my throat was sore.” You smiled at what she said, but Olivia looked better than ever.
“I was worried about you, but I'm so glad you're okay.” He spoke and you sighed. You don't know how you're going to act with Mason after what he said to you, but it's the first time you've thought about it since yesterday, because your biggest concern was Olivia and not his lack of sense. “Can you pass the phone to your mum?”
“Yes, I'm going to watch the Moana movie now.” She spoke and walked over to you, still looking at Mason on the video call, who smiled at her. “Bye uncle Mase, I love you.”
“Bye bye, pumpkin, I love you too.” He said goodbye and she blew him a kiss, handing you your cell phone and running back to the living room to watch.
“I'm listening.” You spoke and turned off the camera so Mason wouldn't see you, just hear you, so he turned off his camera too.
“Can we talk?”
“I have nothing to talk to you Mason, you've already made it clear that nothing happened.”
“That’s not what-” You interrupted him.
“I really hope from the bottom of my heart that you don't act towards the other girls the same way you did towards me, because I'm going to feel so sorry for them for having to deal with this jerk that you are.”
“Can you hear me? You won't let me speak.” Mason retorted, irritated.
“Go fuck yourself, Mason.”
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
“I think you're being a bit harsh on Mason.” Ayla spoke one week later. “I mean, I spoke to him this week and he's feeling bad, you didn't let him explain himself.”
“Are you going to defend him?” You questioned, raising your eyebrows and looking at your friend. You could hear Olivia and Robert's laughter in the room as they played along with Olivia's word game.
“I'm not defending him, but I've heard some things and I think you should listen to him too.”
“Well, I’m not. I don't want to talk about it anymore.”
“Okay, but are you going to end a friendship of years because of one night?”
“Yeah, one night he fucked me until the sun came up and then acted like he didn't do anything. If I had done that, I'd be a slut, wouldn't I? He's just like everyone else, he would never date someone who is a single mother and puts her daughter first.”
“You know you're going down the wrong path, but I'm not going to pressure you, it's not my problem.”
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
Olivia was lying on the couch sleeping after you watched both Lion King movies. You valued the idea of making your daughter watch old Disney movies and discover the good side of life.
Three days later and you were still thinking about what Ayla had said, but Mason didn't call, didn't text and didn't even want to know about Olivia. She asked for him twice, but you said he was busy and couldn't talk to her.
You were still hurt by him, and the biggest disappointment was that he acted in front of your best friends like you meant nothing, when one night with him meant so much to you. And you were right, things changed after having sex with him. You thought about him and despite the disappointment, you remembered his touch and how good it felt to have him kissing you and whispering compliments to you.
And the passion returned even with the pain. You didn't think that one day you would have something with Mason and that's why your feelings were left aside, but now you don't know how to deal with what's inside you.
You were lost in thought as you caressed Olivia's legs and it took you a while to realize that you had a voicemail received on your phone. It was Mason's.
It was a long audio and your heart raced before you even heard what he was saying, but you got up from the couch and went to the kitchen to listen and not wake Olivia.
“Hey… hum… I don’t know how to say this to you but… I’m drunk, if you haven't noticed… but I miss you. I miss you so fucking much. I know I haven't spoken to you in a few days, I know I fucked up, but I never meant to say that to humiliate you or make you sad. I just thought it would embarrass you if I said we had sex, because you don't like to talk about things like that in front of people, but I made the wrong decision.”
The audio was quiet for a while, but you could hear Mason breathing.
“It was the best sex of my life, just for you to know.” He chuckled to himself as he talked. “I've dreamed about this for years, since we were teenagers actually. I remember I wanted to tell you this because I thought you were in love with me too, but then you got pregnant and you were so sad that I thought I shouldn't put any more pressure on you. You lived with me for months and every night I dreamed of sleeping next to you, but you had another priority.”
A tear ran down your cheek and you wiped it away.
“I love Olivia, God, I love her so much I could cry, and I know you love her more than anything, but I wish... I wish you had some of that love for me too.”
You gasped.
“I know you think I date a lot of women, but that's because we've always had our disagreements. After Olivia was born, you started dating that idiot Peter, so I thought I should move on and I met Rory. When you broke up, I was dating, and then you met that Luke guy and I was single. Have you noticed that this is the first time in years that we've both been single at the same time?”
“I've been talking for a long time, sorry to bother you now, but that's it, I just wanted to vent to you. I hope you forgive me for what I said, and even, I don't know, if you don't want anything to do with me, I want to continue being your best friend. You are my best friend, Olivia is one of the best things I have and it's a gift that you gave me.”
“Forgive me, really. I love you, I will always love you. I'm sorry if I said something stupid, the last thing I wanted was to hurt you.”
You cried. You don't even remember when you started crying, but you cried so much and you don't know if it was seconds, minutes or an hour. Olivia appeared in the kitchen and hugged you, and you cried as you held her in your arms. She didn't understand anything, but she stroked your hair the same way you did every time she fell and hurt herself.
“Why are you crying, mummy?” She whispered as you held her against your chest. “I don't like to see you cry.”
“I heard something that made me emotional, that's all.” You smiled at her, but she still looked suspicious.
“Big girls don’t cry, mum.” She brought her hand to your cheek and pulled, forcing a smile onto your lips, the same way she did in the hospital.
“Big girls cry, pumpkin, everyone cries.” You murmured to her, leaving a kiss on her cheek. “Crying is good, no one can keep everything here.” You pointed at her heart, and she giggled at the tickle.
“Uncle Masey calls me pumpkin.” She laughed and you carried her to the bedroom with you, just wanting to sleep next to your daughter to feel safe for one night. She was your safe, loving place where you felt good.
“I know…” You spoke and laid her on the bed. “What do you think about the two of us going to visit uncle Mase?”
✦‎۟    ࣭   ⊹
“Can I buy this one too?” Olivia asked as you walked around the Manchester United store before the game. You had been walking around Manchester since arriving in the morning, and Olivia decided that she wanted a new team cap and shirt.
“You don't need a coat, it's hot.” You said and she pouted, but put the coat with the number 7 back on the shelf. “We have to go now, Lewis is waiting for us.”
“Can I call uncle Mason and wish him good luck with the match? I don't want them to lose.”
“Yesterday you told me that you are still a Chelsea fan.” You poked her nose as you both walked towards the cashier to pay for the things she picked out.
“I've changed my mind, I support uncle Mason and the team he plays for.” She said and crossed her arms as she waited for you to pay. Olivia smiled at the cashier.
“Is Mason Mount your favorite player?” The lady asked Olivia.
“Yes, he is my godfather and my mother's best friend.” She replied and took the bag the woman handed her after you swiped your credit card. The woman looked at you and you nodded and smiled at her, holding Olivia's hand. “Thank you so much, have a nice day.”
“Thank you, you are very polite and kind.” Olivia was embarrassed by the compliment, so you thanked the saleswoman again and said goodbye, then you and Olivia headed towards the entrance of Old Trafford.
You soon entered, and there were already many people waiting for the match to start. Olivia was used to the games because of Chelsea, as you took her to a lot of games to support Mason. You met Lewis, who was the one who helped you with the tickets without telling Mason, because you and Olivia decided it would be a surprise, but you're scared because you don't know what his reaction will be.
You weren't in the family box, but a little above the reserve players' bench. Olivia was excited and you were excited to see her talking to Lewis about getting a dog, which she's been asking for for months.
The players came onto the field for warm-ups and Olivia tried in vain to wave to Mason, but he hadn't seen her yet and she felt sad when she waved and he didn't wave back.
“Why doesn't he wave at me?” She asked sadly, and you and Lewis had to explain that he hadn't seen her because there were so many people there.
Olivia gave up waving because Mason started warming up, but she didn't take her eyes off him for a moment. And neither did you. Mason was focused on what he had to do, and you tried to look away from his strong arms and legs that were on display, but everything about him caught your attention and you were almost drooling in the middle of everyone else.
Ten minutes later the players started to leave and Olivia stood up, shouting and waving at Mason and trying to get his attention. Just as he was about to go inside to change his uniform, she called out again and you could tell Mason was looking for the familiar voice. Lewis raised an arm to wave and Mason saw him, then he smiled when he noticed Olivia and finally you.
Mason needed to go to the locker room, but his smile when he saw you there cheering for him made you excited and hopeful. Olivia celebrated when he saw her and he waved at her, then she blew a kiss to him, who pretended to catch it and blew another kiss to her.
“He saw me, mum.” She said happily and sat on your lap, Lewis smiled at the two of you and said something about her being Mason's favorite fan.
The game started and you noticed that Mason looked at you every chance he got, and you smiled shyly when he looked at you, remembering the things he said in the audio he sent you, about ten days ago.
After fifteen minutes, the opposing team scored a goal and Olivia was sad when she realized that few people in the stadium celebrated.
“Olivia, there's still a lot of time left in the game, they're going to win.” Lewis murmured to her, trying to make her feel better.
You weren't confident at Manchester United in the first half, but after the break the team improved and tried to score more goals than in the first half. You could see the moment the ball reached Mason's feet and he kicked it hard, it hit the goalkeeper's hand but went into the goal, making the entire stadium scream for his goal. You picked Olivia up so she could see the celebration and she was screaming Mason's name, happier than you had ever seen her.
Mason ran towards where you were and made the letter “O” with his hands, and Olivia smiled when she realized it was the initial of her name.
“Was it for me?” She asked, blushing.
“Yes, uncle Mason scored a goal for you.” You kissed her cheek and placed her on the chair next to you.
Olivia confessed that she wished Garnacho had also made the letter O when he scored Manchester United's second goal, but you had to explain that he didn't because he didn't know her, which made her roll her eyes at him. After the game, Lewis told you that you would have to go with him to Mason's house because Mason needed to go back with the team and pick up his car in Carrington.
An hour later Olivia had already looked at every room in Mason's house, played with Ace for a long time and ate the cookies she found in the cupboard and Lewis allowed her to eat. It was already past her bedtime, so when she lay down on the couch, she fell asleep within minutes, unable to wait for Mason.
You and Lewis were talking in the kitchen, and Mason arrived a few minutes later, smiling when he realized you were still there. Lewis congratulated Mason on the game but said he was tired and would go to his room, leaving you alone with Mason in the kitchen. You were embarrassed and didn't know what to do, so you smiled at him, who smiled and came closer.
“So, what a great surprise to have you here.” He said and you nodded, hugging him and sighing when he held you close to him.
“Sorry for coming unannounced, Olivia wanted to surprise you.”
“She is snoring on the couch and her feet are dirty.”
“She had fun today.”
“And you? Did you like the game?” Mason asked, you felt his hand on your waist and you put your arms around his neck, making him smile even more.
“It was actually pretty cool, but I'm about to find out if the day can get any better.”
“Do you want to tell me something?” Mason pretended to be serious, so you moved closer and kissed his lips. It was a soft kiss, just a small touch, before you pulled away and faced him.
“I'm sorry for the way I spoke to you that day, and I didn't let you explain yourself, but Olivia was in the hospital, I was stressed and scared and I took it out on you.” Mason nodded and opened his mouth to speak, but you placed a finger over his lips. “I've thought a lot about that audio you sent me drunk, and I hope everything you said there is true because I feel the same way. I always kept these feelings inside me because I thought I was the only one who felt something, I never realized that you felt something for me too.”
You spoke and Mason lowered his head to kiss your neck, but you still had a lot to say.
“I know things can be complicated because I have Olivia and she's my priority, and you need to think about that Mason, because I'm a single mom, you can have any woman in the world who doesn't have kids and I don't want to let her down if things don't work out.”
“You know I don't care about that, I love that little girl as much as I love my nieces and nephews, I love her like a part of me.” He said. “I've never been as sure of anything as I am of the two of us.”
“We take it slow, because it involves a lot more than just the two of us.”
“Yeah, yeah… You two can move in next week, and we'll set our wedding date for next month. It's slow.”
“Stop being silly.” You laughed and Mason smiled too, then he kissed you.
It was a passionate kiss and for the first time you realized that all your feelings for Mason had never died, and you were more than willing to show him all of that.
“We'll be fine, the three of us. I'll make you both happy.” Mason whispered, kissing your forehead.
“You promise?”
“Pinky promise, Olivia taught me.” You and he crossed your fingers, sealing the promise.
“We need to think about how to tell her this, but I think she'll be happy.”
“Because she loves me very much, I am her favorite uncle.”
“I can't deny it, because I know she loves you.” You walked into the living room and stopped next to Olivia lying on the couch, with Ace sleeping next to her.
“My girls. I can't even believe this is all real.”
“I don't want to wake up if it's a dream.”

my idea for an adult R-rated Scooby-Doo reboot is this:
the gang meets in college, but Daphne and Velma start out as exes—they broke up bc Velma got too busy and Daphne felt neglected, so Daphne ended up moving on with the nice traps guy Fred from her Chemistry class and Velma’s still a little hung up on her. their relationship development arc is about them still caring deeply about each other and reconciling their friendship.
keep the murder mystery angle, maybe even add some creeping supernatural horror—we’re not using the R-rating for sex, we’re using it to show grisly crime scenes, a la Hannibal. the show operates on a case of the week format that follows the conceit that the culprit is ultimately some asshole in a costume, but there’s an overarching plotline of something deeply amiss: why are these disparate characters doing this in costume? maybe there’s a common link between all the crime scenes that the gang is trying to understand.
Shaggy meets Scooby in the very first episode and takes him home, and when Scooby talks, he immediately is like oh!! cool!! guys, our dog talks!! like Mystery Inc, this could be a link to the overarching mystery of the show.
Scrappy Doo is a shih-tzu named Scrapper who belongs to Daphne and she adores him. he doesn’t talk but he reveals a loyal fighty bastard personality when Scooby translates for him. he WILL kill for the gang, do not test him.
make it very, VERY clear that the gang really likes each other. they want to hang out together and solve mysteries! maybe there’s interpersonal conflict sometimes, sure, but they’re not being forced to solve mysteries together. Shaggy comes over to the girls’ dorm all the time, Fred likes to show Velma what he’s working on and get her advice bc she can provide a fresh perspective, Daphne paints Shaggy’s nails while Scooby and Scrapper socialize.
the jokes are NOT mean-spirited. this has to be said. if there are any insults, they’re the kind of insults you get from a friend you’ve known forever, when it’s more of an in-joke than anything. the exception to this is the police: the cops tell mean jokes like in the Velma show. this is deliberate, bc the gang stands as a sharp contrast to the cops, who are generally mean, incompetent, and mostly just interested in filling a daily quota, and also their pockets. it also provides a good reason why the gang wouldn’t just call the police—the police are at best incompetent, at worst actively corrupt and shameless about it. (also it’s a way to take a potshot at the Velma show’s very small-minded brand of comedy.)

For the history nerds, the quote at the beginning is from the book "Fire from Heaven" by Mary Renault, about the relationship between Alexander the Great and his friend and lover, Hephaestion.
Enjoy! As always, likes, comments and reblogs are very appreciated ♡
Tumblr media
His feelings were confused; he wanted to grasp till Alexander's very bones were somehow engulfed within himself, but knew this to be wicked and mad; he would kill anyone who harmed a hair of his head…
… you yawned at the page you’d been reading (i.e., staring at without absorbing a single bit of information), before turning your head to the nightstand and seeing the clock mark 2:49 am.
“Good god”, you whispered, tiredly rubbing your face with one hand, while the other reached for the half-full glass of red wine keeping you company in your insomnia.
Technically, you knew drinking was the last thing you should be doing on a weeknight, when you were having a hard time falling asleep and were expected at work in the morning. But living alone was really not helping you behave like a responsible adult with bills to pay. So, you slowly sip your wine, read your book, and hope that eventually your brain will give up and allow you to pass out for at least a few hours.
Suddenly, your phone lights up with a text. Michael B., it says on the screen. A pang of excitement hits you, and you immediately scoff for reacting so earnestly to a text from a guy you’ve been with (not even biblically, just the daytime coffee dates that people with busy lives manage to pack into a crazy week) for a grand total of two times and less than two hours, overall. Not pathetic at all.
Still, you can’t help but reach for the phone.
Hey, I know it’s late and you probably won’t read this until morning, sorry. Wanna have dinner at that spot we talked about? I can pick you up at the office ;) – M.
You smile, and without really thinking, hit the call button.
He picks up quickly, an amused tone in his voice. “Well, I was not expecting that. What the hell are you still doing up, princess? No work tomorrow?”
You laugh. “God, I wish. I just can’t sleep. Haven’t had one of these nights in a while… my brain won’t shut up, even though I’m so tired I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck”.
“Ooof. That fucking sucks.”
“Yup.”
“Well, I’m glad to be your booty call in this desperate time.”
“Michael”, you laugh so hard you choke on some wine and must set the glass back on the table. “I really don’t think that’s what this is”.
“Oh, no?”, he feigns innocence.
“No…”, chuckling, you continue with the most sultry, mock-seductive voice you can muster “… a booty call is if I was like: Sooo, Mikey… are you, like, busy right now? Do you wanna… come over? I’m aaall alone…”.
You make sure to put particular emphasis on the word ‘come’ and Mike sounds like he is doubling over with laughter. “That was the worst proposition I have ever heard, no doubt”.
“Oh, yeah? Well, you’re officially off my booty call list. I don’t need this kind of negativity in my life.”
“Ah, shit… I fucked up now, didn’t I?”, you swear you can hear his grin from the other end of the line. And see the laugh lines that form on the corner of his eyes when he smiles genuinely, the rare but so cute nose crinkle that makes your belly flutter…
You would love to get a fucking grip, thank you very much, but the wine was making you incapable of keeping a level head in this flirtation.
“Well… all is not lost. Taking me out to dinner is a good start to redeem yourself. If your game is on point tomorrow, your booty call list status might be revised… in the not-so-far future”, you add, suggestively.
“Shit. Now the stakes are on. I gotta be on my best behavior tomorrow, then”.
“I don’t know about best behavior…”. You feel like slapping yourself for your lack of subtlety.
He chuckles. “So… you like them a little nasty, huh?”
You’re glad he can’t see you blush furiously. “Not like that… but I do like a man who isn’t afraid to… take what he wants. Respectfully, of course.”
“Of course… damn, girl. You’re getting me thinking about all sorts of things…”
“Well, you’re the one who started talking about booty calls. It’s technically your fault”.
“That’s fucking rich. I was being a gentleman, sent you a sweet text and all. Not a single sex reference!”, he says, proudly.
“Ok, that is true”, you concede, laughing softly. “Are you still at the restaurant?”
He sighs deeply. “Yeah… paperwork coming out of my eyeballs. I don’t even understand how the hell I organized this mess”. You hear rustling through the line, and imagine the mess of letters, invoices and bills that must be covering his office desk.
“That fucking sucks”.
“Word”. His chair squeaks loudly. “So… what are you wearing?”
You laugh. “You’re unbelievable”.
“What? I’m just trying to keep the conversation light, you know? Nobody wants to hear about my fuckin’ paperwork at 3 am”.
It was subtle, but you could sense something deeper in his words (sadness? self-deprecation?).
“I wouldn’t mind hearing about your ‘fuckin’ paperwork’ at any time of day, Michael”.
The line goes silent, and you fear you went too deep, too soon. Made this weird in record time, wow.
“I didn’t mean it like… I meant if you want to talk to me about your shitty day, you know, you can, but I don’t want you to be uncomf-”
“Hey, hey, it’s okay sweetheart. I get it… thank you for that”, he says, softly. “Maybe some other time. Right now, I honestly just wanna forget about this for a little while... I was really pumped when you called”.
“That’s okay. Really?” You smile, relieved.
“Yeah, really. So… wanna make a guy happy and tell him what you’re wearing?”
With a chuckle, you concede. “Well, nothing. I’m in bed and I sleep naked, so… yeah”.
There’s a heavy pause. “Holy shit. Are you for real?”
“Um, yeah?”
“Jesus, fuck… baby, you can’t say stuff like that and expect me to be normal about it”.
You grin, having just decided that, actually, you wanna play dirty.
“Who says I want you to be normal about it? Besides”, you throw back, suggestively, “I hardly think a woman can be held accountable for what she says after four glasses of wine on a Thursday night… naked and alone, in such a big bed…”
“Now, see, that was a much better pitch for a booty call than the first o-”
“I’m gonna hang up.”
“No, no, no, I’m sorry”, he laughs.
“You’re an asshole”. Even as you say it, you’re smiling.
“And you are a minx, lady. Gettin’ a guy all worked up…”
“Oh, my... I don’t know what you mean…”, you whisper into the comforter, now balled up in your fist over your mouth, as if to cover up your blushing cheeks from an invisible audience.
“Oh, I disagree… I think you know exactly what you’re doing”. There’s a note of sarcasm in his voice you find exhilarating. A sudden noise – like a chair squeaking loudly on a panel floor – can be heard from his end. Followed by… a metallic rattle, more subtle but still clear. A… belt unbuckling?
Wait. Is he…?
You grin, amused. “Mr. Berzatto… I’m hearing suspicious noises. What is going on over there?”
A deep grunt. “Nothin’ much, sweetheart. Just making myself comfortable, is all”.
“And how exactly are you doing that, mister?”
“You know… freeing the junk.”
Your eyebrows shoot up. “Well, that certainly helps set the mood”.
“Hm… baby, can I ask you for something? It’s totally fine if you don’t wanna do it… but I figure I might as well shoot my shot.”
You notice you are sitting up very still against the pillows in your bed, holding your breath in anticipation. “Sure… what is it?”
A heavy pause follows. Your heart feels like it’s about to beat itself out of your ribcage, your throat feels dry, and your tongue sits heavy and thick in your mouth, the taste of wine suddenly overpowering your senses. And you are so horny.
“Could you… send me a photo of you right now? Are you wearing those new glasses?”. He sounds… eager, almost nervous with the way he trips over the second question.
Oh. Something clicks for you, then. You smile. “So, you really liked the new glasses, huh?”
“Shit… c’mon, don’t bust my balls about it”, he says, with an embarrassed chuckle of admission.
“I’m not! It’s very flattering, actually”. You hope you conveyed how much you are not making fun of him. However, you hate misunderstandings, and to dispel any that might be going on here, you decide there is only one acceptable solution.
“Give me a minute”, you tell him, determined. You don’t wait for an answer before you drop your phone and get to work.
Meanwhile, Mikey sits in his rusty office chair, in what he thinks must look like a very… undignified position. Cock out, right hand stroking it lazily, slumped back with his jeans barely down his ass, work shirt dirty and stinking of cooking oil, his entire body tense in a mix of anticipation and shame. A part of him can’t help but wonder if you are fucking with him: laughing from the other end of the line, leaving him hanging – literally and figuratively (he chuckles dejectedly at the realization that he still remembers something from high school Lit class). He guesses he would kinda deserve that. What type of freak asks for nudes after two… dates? Do those rapid-fire coffee-grabs even count? He is so shit at this. Anything more than a casual hook-up or a quickie behind a sleezy pub is rocket science for him. ‘Congrats, loser! You just fucked it, yet again’.
Then, his phone pings. 5 photos received.
In the first one, you are lying on your side, in bed, a dim warm light illuminating the scene. He can see the contours of your body clearly, despite being covered by a layer of nearly sheer white sheets. His gaze follows your exposed collarbone, to the silhouette of your breasts – he is sure you purposefully allowed a bit of side-boob to slip past the entrapment of sheets… just for him.
He swears he could stare at the shapes of your body all day and never get tired – or limp. His dick is throbbing painfully, now.
It does not get better when he sees the rest of the photos. Your face is visible, on those. The last two are his favorites. You are laying on your stomach, with the reading glasses on, as promised – except they sit lower on your nose than usual, so that your eyes peak out from over the top of the frames. Your hair is down, tousled and wild like it’s just gotten messed up. ‘Is this what she looks like after…’. You are holding a glass of wine to your mouth – lips plump and lightly tinged red – that detail drives him a little insane –, and in front of you lays a book, delicately held open with your other hand. And in the last photo, the sheets have slipped lower down your breasts, revealing a generous cleavage. You’re staring directly at the camera with an inquiring gaze, biting your lower lip. ‘Come get me’.
“… Mike? Are you still there?”
It’s been some time since you sent the photos (twenty seconds, which your anxiety tells you is actually half an hour), with no reaction from him. Your cheeks heat up, and you suddenly feel very silly and insecure. Are they even… good? What makes a good nude? Do these even qualify as nudes? You’re not showing anything super explicit… they’re suggestive, at best. Is he going to think you’re a prude? God, why is this so diff-
Mike clears his throat. “Yeah, I… fuck. Fuckin’ hell. Holy shit. Sweetheart… these are so hot. Jesus… thank you so much. You’re so fuckin’ gorgeous…”. The last part comes out as a whisper, like he’s starstruck.
You didn’t know it was possible to get more flustered than you already were. “You’re welcome… I’m flattered I managed to make Michael Berzatto incoherent over some low-res thirst trap selfies.”
“Baby, these are genuinely the hottest pics I’ve ever seen. You look like a hot librarian or something”.
You laugh out loud, triumphantly. “Ah! I knew it!”
“What?”, he laughs along.
“Something you wanna share with the class, Mr. Berzatto?”.
“Fuck, don’t stop calling me that, sweetheart”, he says, sounding out of breath.
“Yeah?”, you whisper.
“Fuck, yeah. It’s just… I’ve got a thing for girls with a kinda nerdy, librarian type of vibe, you know? And when I saw you this last time, holding a book and wearing your reading glasses… I gotta admit, my mind went straight to the gutter.”
Interesting. “Really? What did you imagine then?”.
A pause. “I’m not sure you want to hear it… I don’t want you thinking I’m a pervert or something”.
You sigh. “Mikey, I just sent you near-naked photos of me. We’re having phone sex. We are two horny adults having fun. Besides…”, you switch your tone to what you hope comes across as faux innocence, “… I asked you about it. It is kinda my fault, right? I guess I was kind of… bad”.
“Oh, is that what’s happening?”. He chuckles, as if saying challenge accepted. “Alright, then. When I saw you like that for the first time, this image popped into my head, right? I mean, you looked like a really hot librarian. So, I started picturing you in that scenario, with big glasses and all – just like the photos you sent me… except you had your hair in a cute ponytail, and your lips were even redder with lipstick… and you were wearing fishnet stockings up to your thighs – fuck, you got such nice legs, baby –, and you had a pair of those… what are they called. Uh, kitten heels. Yeah. Fuck, your ass would look unbelievable like that. I mean, it is unbelievable, you know what I mean? When you show up at the restaurant wearing those cute little dresses and skirts, I feel my dick twitching in my pants… that’s how hot you are, baby… that’s how crazy you make me feel.”
His words were streaming out like an avalanche – a filthy stream-of-consciousness. Flash images of all the times you were together pop into your mind. He was always nice and polite to you, if cheeky – that was his personality, after all. You’d never felt disrespected or threatened around him. Maybe that’s why, now that you knew he had been actively thinking about you like this… you were very turned on.
“Too much, sweetheart? You wanna keep listening to this filth?”
“… yeah, Mikey. Keep going. What happened then?”
“Then, I took you to a hidden corner in the library, rucked up your pretty little skirt and ripped your real nice dress shirt open… you know, so I could suck on your tits while I fucked you hard against some shelves. Didn’t even need to rip your panties off, ‘cause you weren’t wearing any. Just lifted you up and slammed my cock right into your pussy… God, you were drippin’ wet for me, and you mewled so sweetly… loud, too. Had to shove my fingers into your pretty mouth to keep you quiet. That’s what I imagined, sweetheart. More or less.”
The crass and vivid way in which he described his fantasy made you speechless. It was exhilarating. Knowing that all those times he had talked to you with a straight face, he had been actively fantasizing about fucking you hard. His words.
“Jesus Christ, Mikey”, you breathe out. “That’s… I can’t believe we had entire conversations while you had a cheap porn flick playing in your head”, you laugh softly, unconvincingly.
He sighed deeply. “See, I knew this was a bad idea… honey, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you feel like shit. I guess I’m just a fucking perv-”
“Babe…”, you interrupt him, gentle, but firm, “shut up, please. I’m messing with you. I told you, it’s very flattering that you’re attracted to me. In fact… it’s super hot. Knowing you were having all those dirty thoughts about me while still being a gentleman… is making me feel all kinds of things, right now.”
“Yeah? What kinds of things?”
“Good things, Mikey… I’m so wet right now”, you mewl, the need for release in your core overwhelming the embarrassment you would be feeling otherwise. Without thinking, you kick the sheets away from your body and cup one of your breasts, kneading it and flicking your nipple – a moan leaves your mouth in a desperate plea.
“Fuck”, he whispers, “you got wet over that filth? Jesus Christ, baby. I won the fuckin’ lottery”.
You are burning with desire, and you can feel your pussy throbbing when you finally give in, sliding one hand down and shoving two fingers inside with barely any resistance. “Mikey… I wanna come so bad. Can you talk me through it… please?”
“Fuck… yeah, sweetheart, anything you want”. He moans, then, and you don’t think you have ever been so turned on in your life. Mikey Berzatto, a horny, moaning mess, jerking off in his mess of an office at 3 am… because of you.
Chicago’s Helen of Troy. You chuckled softly at the thought and decided to up the ante. “Baby… do you know what I was thinking when you were telling that beautiful story just now?”
He laughs, voice recked. “What, baby?”
You pout, and add another finger in, increasing the pace of the thrusts. “I wish you had pictured kissing me real hard, while I unbuckled your belt… would you let me get down on my knees for you, baby? I really wanna have you in my mouth, Mikey, like, right now”. Your words come out broken, sentences all messed up – you sound pathetic, but you are so past caring.
“Shit-”, a gasp, followed by a deep breath and the noise of something hitting a surface really hard. “… holy shit. Baby, I imagined all that and a whole lot more – seriously, you have no idea. Hell, if the lady wants to suck my dick, who am I to deny her, uh? Fuck. Would you let me fuck your mouth, baby…?”
You moan loudly at that and realize you need both hands, putting the phone on speaker – fuck the neighbors – and bringing your other hand to your clit, rubbing lightly, but fast. You were so close. The thought of kneeling on the floor, clothes and hair all messed up from Mikey’s hands, lipstick smudged… looking up at him, and watching his composure unravel because of you…
“Hm… yeah, Mikey, I think I would… ‘cause you’re so nice to me… such a gentleman, even when you’re fucking me hard… would you ask me real nice, baby? Hold my face gently in your big hands, while you fuck it?”
“Fuck, baby… I would treat you so right, you deserve everything-”, he chokes up and, for a few moments, you hear a distant cacophony of noises, like he’s put the phone down. Then, he’s back. “Sorry, sweetheart, I need both hands now”, he chuckles.
You giggle, “Me too… you got me so hot I’m fucking myself on my fingers and rubbing my clit at the same time… and it’s still not enough. I need you…”
“Fuck, that’s so hot. You fuckin’ yourself because of me… I know it’s not enough, baby… you need my cock, don’t you?”
“Yes! Mikey… please…”, you howl, completely out of your mind.
“How do you want me to fuck you, baby? Hm? Want it nice and slow? Nah… I think you like it fast and rough, don’t you? Long as I keep kissing you real good, touchin’ you real gentle, all over your body… you’d let me do anything to you, wouldn’t you?”. How he manages to say such filthy things with so much honey dripping from every syllable, is beyond you.
“Yeah, fuck, baby… it doesn’t matter. I’m so wet already, you don’t need to do anything else, just hoist me up in your arms and pin me against the shelves… and shove it in me”.
You are still holding onto a shred of decency because you blush at your own crass admission – still, there is clearly not a whole lot left, as you start rubbing your clit and fucking yourself harder and faster. “I don’t want you to be gentle when you fuck me… I just need to feel your cock stretch me open… wanna feel the sting of it for days, be at work and not be able to focus because all I can think about is how you fucked me so good-”
At this point, you have no idea if he can understand anything you’re saying, because your words are intercut with moans and gasps and mewls and incoherent babble, as you’re about to reach your peak imagining Mikey’s on top of you, railing you into the bed.
“Baby, I’m gonna come… fuckin’ Christ”.
“Mikey- fuck!”.
Your body shakes and your eyes roll back from the strength of your orgasm. Distantly, your brain registers a broken string of moans and curses from the other end of the line.
A few seconds pass, and you feel yourself coming back down to Earth. You lazily stretch out on the bed, completely relaxed and fucked out. “That’s so cute… we came at the same time, babe”, you happily whisper, a ditsy smile on your face.
He huffs, amused “Yeah… what can I say? I’m a romantic at heart”.
You laugh sincerely. “This was… so good, actually. I’m glad I gave into my instinct and called you”.
“Well, I’m even more sticky now”. You both laugh at that. “But I’m also glad you called… like, really glad. Uh, can I ask you something?”
You notice a shift in his voice.
“Yeah… what is it?”
“I don’t want things to get weird between us after this… Like, I don’t want you to feel like you need to do all these things to get me off. You know what I mean? It’s just a fantasy… I’ll have you in any way you want me. Okay?”
You feel a tightness in your chest, and you wish, not for the first time tonight, you had him right in front of you so you could kiss him all over and hug him.
“Mikey… I genuinely liked tonight. And the more we talk, the more I like you. You’re not the only one who feels like you won the lottery…”.
“Baby… you’re too sweet. Don’t you think you already got me blushing enough for one night?”
“That’s fucking rich. I must’ve gone through all shades of red tonight, because of your filthy mouth”.
“Please. You loved it”, he chuckles.
“Yeah, I guess I did”, you concede, with a smile.
After saying goodbye – and confirming that yes, you would very much like for him to pick you up and take you to dinner later – you fall asleep fast, your mind finally catching up to the pleasant tiredness in your body, a soft smile on your lips.

Human society collapses as 25% of living adults transform physically into semi-animate objects. But it doesn't collapse all at once. Someday, inside of it, you come in to work and your boss is a quivering mass of artificial hair approximately the size of a housecat, stridulating and moaning. "Another day, another dollar," says your coworker Stupid James, whose empty eye socket has a SCSI cable dangling out of it. "Ha ha ha." Nobody knows how you're all getting paid anymore and it's all felt like it stopped mattering. You go home and jerk off to porn from the before times, the insolidity of it, the rubberiness, it all feels like silicone toys mooshing against each other. It's not good but it's a relief from the horrors.
You wake up - must have passed out from the torpidity of it all - and there's a hissing at the door and your mailman is rasping his glass skin against the door, terrified of knocking for fear his transformation into an electric kettle be interrupted by shattering what is to become his body. The advertisements are all in lockstep about how we're going to get through this together and it's unprecedented but not a big deal. Trader Joe's has a special on sprayable lithium grease. You think it's better to get there ahead of the rush so you call up an Uber. Guy in the driver's seat makes no conversation, seems afraid to look at you, talk to you. Can't tell if anything fucked up has happened to him yet. You slide past the National Guard attack dog checkpoint and there's a car doing donuts in the parking lot, no driver at the wheel; another car has a sandstone obelisk thrust through the driver's seat, still buckled in. You wonder if it's affecting the animals. Everyone always argues about that. "I figure it isn't," says the first person you ask, walking a stroller covered in cameras pointing inward at an apparently normal human toddler. "I figure it's some kind of punishment, you know, or the government did it, and why would they do it to animals."
The cashier's Hawaiian shirt clashes with his skin, which has the texture and color of an American flag. "You holding up okay," you ask. You kind of expect him to be crying, but he isn't. "Nah, man," he says. "You know how it is." "I do." You dream like you do every night, of your allegedly protective Faraday garment cracking open and some pile of clutter - dust bunnies, CD-ROM drives, stacks of twenty-dollar bills - spilling out of your guts. You haven't told your therapist. You're not even sure if your therapist is still technically alive. The worst thing you can imagine, in the long run, is that you will die of old age, surrounded by loved ones, untouched by regret, no business unfinished. There's an email in your inbox in the morning and it's from your new boss

Your attention span has always been inconsistent. Still, you’ve found ways to keep yourself on track. That day, none of your tricks are working. You fidget and fumble your way through the hours, dreading the moment Sam returns from his meeting.
You squirm at the thought of the stray panties. He was right. You put them on just like he told you to but it’s that last part you’re not sure you can do. You just don’t get it. Sam’s a nice guy and a great boss. Or so you thought.
Billie always told you you’re too trusting. Missie always told you not to listen and Rosie agrees. You can’t see the worst in everyone. Elfie says it never hurts to be too cautious.
You stare at the list of contacts and resign yourself to suffering alone. You don’t know who to ask. You don’t even know how to begin to explain your predicament.
Every way you frame it in your head just makes it sound like you asked for all this. You let the lines blur between you and your boss and now they’re slowly disappearing. You cross one leg over the other and rock, chewing your thumb as you turn your attention to the computer.
Your focus app chirps to remind you to stay on task. Yeah, yeah, shut up. How are you supposed to concentrate on anything?
Your computer dings and a notification pops up in the corner of the screen. You're less concerned about what it says than the time. Oh dang, you really let it get ahead of you.
Your attention is drawn back to the message and you tap your mouse. Sam startles you as his door opens and you hide behind the monitor. A scalding heat courses through you. He struts by whistling as you read his last message.
‘Gonna run and talk to accounting. My gym bag’s under the desk.’
Shoot. Shoot. Oh, gosh, are you really going to do this?
You gulp. Your throat is so tight it makes a churning noise. You stand shakily and look around. There’s not really anyone to catch you.
You scurry around your desk and nearly trip into his office. You shut the door with a soft click and whine. You really don’t like this. How—why—you can’t even the questions that have your head spinning.
Sam is such a sweet guy. So much nicer than your last boss. Your mind flashes through the last few days; running into him at the bar, the panties, sitting all day in shame. Your eyes sting as you lift your skirt. You roll your panties down and sniffle. You can’t cry. You’re an adult.
You go behind his desk and reach under to slide his bag out. You drop the panties inside and recoil. You kick it away from you and retreat.
As you emerge, you look both ways as if crossing a busy street. You go back to your desk and hunker down for the last twenty minutes. You hear Sam on his way back, whistling, strutting. His doors snaps shut behind him.
You focus on making your list for tomorrow. You have to move a few things from today over and catch up. You tremble as you fight the looming noose of distraction. How can you concentrate with the cool air creeping up your legs. You squeeze your thighs together.
Another message. This one not on your computer. Your phone vibrates. You expect Missie or Rosie. Maybe even Elfie. No. It’s Sam? On Snap? You only use that for the filters. But why wouldn't he message you on Teams? Nothing he’s doing makes very much sense.
You unlock your phone and bite down on a gasp. You stare at the video that fills the otherwise empty conversation. He has your panties wrapped around his dick, his fingers gripping tightly. He pumps himself several times before it stops and disappears into the ether.
You black your phone screen and put it face down. You roll back to your computer and cup your hot cheek. Your other hand swoops around your mouse but you can’t do much of anything but replay it all in your head. Your phone vibes again and again.
No, no, no. You won’t look. Your eyes glaze over in a wall of tears and you close them to keep the flow from spilling over.
The door opens and you sit up. It’s time to go home. Sam appears above your monitor before you can pack up and escape. You look up at him with a quivering lip.
“Hey, Diz? What’s up?” He leans forward and splays his fingers wide on the desk. His fly is undone and your panties peek out of his pocket. “You look... flustered.”
Your mouth opens and closes. You can’t look him in the face. You sniff and shut down the computer. You pivot your chair away from him and grab your phone and purse. You frantically start to shove things into your bag. You stand as he lurks around the other side of your desk.
“How about I give you a ride home? Can’t have you taking the bus during rush hour.” He purrs.
“No--thanks,” you croak. “I always take the--” You stop short as you circle around the desk, only for him to meet you there.
He leans in and lowers his voice, “you get on the bus with no panties,” he slowly wraps his fingers around your purse strap and wiggles it free, “and someone might get ideas about you.” You blink and pout up at him as he licks his lips. “They might think you don’t belong to me."

Summary: Broken hearts are hard to put back together. 8 years ago, Dean lost something he didn’t even know he had in the first place. Will he get a second chance?
Pairing: former AU!Dean Winchester x fem!Reader
Warnings: angst, language, past break-up, arguments, daddy Dean
A/N: This was an alternative idea for the first chapter of my Bucky story: Monster-in-law masterlist. I decided to use it for a story with Dean.

“What has gotten into you two?” You scream loud enough to make Sam flinch. “Did you realize that Michael heard what you said? He’s a child and that was the worst way to find out that Dean is his father! How could you do this to him?”
You throw your hands up as the men prefer to push each other around instead of listening to you.
“Dean, stop this. Y/N is right,” Sam tries to help you, but Dean is out of his mind.
“He—he tried to get into your pants. I know it,” Dean grunts and pushes Ketch away. “I saw the way he looked at you when during our meetings, and not moments ago.”
“He’s my friend.”
“No,” Dean steps toward you, “he’s not. All he has in mind is to get into your pants, sweetheart. You’re just too blinded by the lies he fed you to see clearly.”
“What the fuck is wrong with you, Winchester!” You slap Dean across the face, leaving an angry handprint on his left cheek. “Not all men are pigs or assholes like you.”
“I saw what I saw, Y/N,” Dean huffs, and rubs his burning cheek. “A wolf recognizes another wolf sniffing around his territory. That bastard came to claim what’s mine.”
“What’s yours? Dream on, Winchester,” Ketch laughs in Dean’s face. “For years I played the good guy, her friend, and confidant to make her see that I’m the man she should long for, not the guy leaving her all alone when she needed him the most. Do you have the slightest idea how hard it is to not make a move while you’re longing for the woman you can’t have?”
“Hah, I told you,” Dean wildly gestures toward Ketch. “He’s nothing but a dog wanting to sniff at your pussy.”
You try to fathom that your friend, the man you consider family tricked you only to get into your pants.
That’s all you’ve been to him. A love interest. Not a friend. Not a business partner. Not the person he cares for.
Ketch is a liar, just like all the other men trying to charm their way into your bed over the years. You didn’t let any man get close to you, afraid to get hurt again.
A few sexual encounters with faceless men you forgot about the morning after were all you allowed yourself. Your son always came first. This will never change.
“Dean!” Sam warns. “Someone should check on the kid before things get out of hand. He just got to know about his father. Can you postpone your pissing contest for now?”
You give Sam a weak smile. Dean is not the kind of guy who gives up so easily. You know that. For now, you will leave Ketch, Dean, and all the shit they pulled behind and try to soothe your child. The only important man in your life.
Tumblr media
“You lied,” Michael sniffs when you enter your bedroom. You sigh, relieved that you finally found him. You were searching for your son for half an hour. Finding him here, in your arms is comforting. He was seeking your closeness while being angry at you.
“Baby boy,” you crouch down to look under your bed. “I’m sorry.”
“You said my dad is overseas, and that he can’t be with us because he’s…always busy,” he sniffles. “Why did you lie to me, mommy?”
“Sometimes adults lie to not hurt someone they love, baby,” you lie on the ground, and touch his hand. “Dean,” you sigh, “your dad didn’t know about you. We ended our relationship, and I left to live here, and give you the life you deserve.”
“Why did you never tell him about me?” Michael asks. “Mommy? I asked about my dad, and you never told me about him.”
“I was scared,” you reluctantly admit. “Dean hurt me back then, and I ran away like a scared child. Almost like you now.”
“You were scared?” Michael scoots a little closer to curl in your side. “Why? Did he hurt you? I’ll kick him if he hurt you.”
“Not like that, baby,” you softly say, and smile at your son. “People hurt you each other differently, you know. Just like Ketch and Dean did with you. They hurt your heart with their words.”
Michael nods. He always was smart for his age. “Words can hurt. In here.” He points at his chest. “I believed you hate me, Mommy. I…I’m sorry.”
“Shhh…I’m sorry,” you move closer to wrap your son in your arms. “I love you, baby. The reason for not telling you about Dean was that I didn’t know if he wanted to get to know you. I was scared and unsure what to do.”
“But…he came here for me,” Michael sniffles. “Right? Dean came here to get to know me. He brought me the car his brother gave him. This means he…likes me.”
You remain silent. “He got on a plane for you. I can tell, Dean hates flying.”
Tumblr media
“Let me go, Sammy. That bastard won’t put his hands on my woman!” Dean fights his brother’s hold on him. “I will kill him!”
“You degenerated worm,” Ketch pushes his hair back and laughs about Dean. “Do you honestly believe she will choose you over me?” He huffs. “You had your chance and fucked up big time. I was there the whole time. Y/N will choose me after you attacked me without a reason.”
“She won’t,” Dean bares his teeth. “Y/N is smart and knows that you lied to her. She won’t let you near her or Michael ever again.”
“We will see, Kansas boy,” Ketch spits on the ground. “You’re nothing but a bad memory. I’m a gentleman and know how to treat a lady.”
“I think that is enough,” you snap at Ketch. “Dean, Sam, get inside. I got to talk to my…friend.” You jerk your head toward the door. “Dean, I hope you have a speech prepared because now, you’ll explain to your son why you came here.”
“Uh-sure,” Dean looks at Ketch and then at you. He smirks, knowing he at least won this battle. “Sorry for the mess.”
“Yeah, yeah. Get inside and shut up,” you brush past Dean. “Arthur,” you exhale sharply and steel yourself. “I quit.”
“What? You can’t give everything up for that man!”
“I don’t give up anything for Dean,” you cross your arms over your chest. “But I will no longer work with a man pretending to be a friend to get in my pants. I believed our friendship was special, now I know better.”
“Y/N,” he tries to touch your shoulder, but you slap his hand away. “You can’t believe his lies.”
“Save it, Arthur,” you shake your head. “I needed a friend, not another lover. I will clean out my office on Monday.”
You turn around and take a deep breath. One fight is done, another awaits you…

hihiii pookie :DD!!
tw// mentions of depression
i'm wondering if you could maybe write a comfort fic about miles 42 with a reader who hates asking for help even when theyre clearly suffering in silence because they were taught to just 'suck it up' and deal with it alone as a kid?
you dont have to write this if you dont feel comfortable with it <33
Thank you pooks :33!!
hi pooks @jrrantss <:DD oh man, okay so i was kind of that kid back then too (though i was a big crybaby) it's like the adults around me didn't fully comprehend why i was feeling the way i was, so in response to that, they basically condemned crying at home or in front of them. i'm sorry if you went through something similar or, hopefully not, something worse ;-; i hope this provides you some comfort, and in a way, might also let you know you aren't the only one going through stuff like this. i'm here for you pookie, all the time <:)
(reblogs are greatly appreciated, it helps get my content out there! if you guys like what you see, please reblog it too <:D)
you can be honest with me. – miles 42 x reader (angst + comfort)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
nothing went your way this week, hell, you couldn't even remember a week in your life when anything felt right, when you didn't feel that you were holding yourself back from letting go of everything that felt wrong, awful, and just... painful. you were too good at keeping secrets, too good at lying about how you really felt; and that was something you hated about yourself, how you found lying as your first nature, not your second. you lied to people when they'd ask you if you were doing okay, if your day was going alright–you always gave them the answers they want to hear, that you were fine, that nothing was wrong.
Tumblr media
but when everything just comes crumbling down, and the cracks in your facade begin to show and become more obvious... you get more and more defensive, more and more angry, more and more... scared and worried about these feelings that are hurling themselves at you so quickly that you can't even begin to understand why they're affecting you so badly–why people can see the bare you now if you just turn your face to look at them or open your mouth to speak; and your boyfriend was the first person to see you this way, vulnerable, yet trying all you can to avoid that vulnerability while you're crumbling down.
"hey," miles calls out to you in a soft voice as he sees your back turned to him as you kept working on your assignments, hunched over at your desk with your brows furrowed together and your lips curved into a scowl. you had been avoiding him for a few days now–at least he thinks you might be avoiding him–and have acted very distant, very... out of it recently. you didn't turn your head around to face him, which prompted him to continue talking, hopefully so you could find a reason to face him and his worried eyes. "you've, um... you've been busy lately." "uh-huh." you hummed as you tapped the end of your pencil against your desk impatiently, racking your brain for the answer to the questions written down that all seemed to blur together as the shittiness of the previous days just irritated you even more, and the worst part was... you couldn't hide the fact you can't mask ot anymore.
miles' face contorted as he got more and more worried about you, not knowing why you were acting starkly different than the usual you, or the only you he was familiar with. he extended his hand out to you as he walked over, looking at your cluttered up papers on your desk and the smudged up marks on the paper from your erasures. "...is something wr–" "everything's fine, i'm fine, i'm just peachy!" "you don't sound very convincing." he said, his voice returning to his nonchalant, cool tone as he took a small glimpse at your face before you turned away from his field of vision.
he sat in the chair next to you and wrapped his arm around you in an effort to comfort you. "cielo, sonething's up with you. are you... are you sure you don't wanna let me help?" he asked you with a soft voice, hoping he didn't overstep any boundaries as you slowly turned your head to show him a bit of your face. there were tears in your eyes, though you didn't dare let miles see them fall down your face; there was a sob stuck in your throat, but you didn't dare let miles hear it escape your lips. you had been there before, being severely troubled for more things than just homework–but never had you been advised to do anything than the age old phrases you've heard all your life as a kid: 'get over it.'
you took in a deep breath and tried to tell him what those words you've exhausted yourself from saying all the damn time–that you don't need any help, that you've got this, that you're okay... but your body's betraying you right now. it's betraying you for turning your back on your own feelings, but that... was never your fault, never. as you let out the breath you've been holding in, the hot tears came streaking down the ends of your eyes, your scowl morphing into a sad frown as you felt yourself slowly come undone and all the raging thoughts in your mind boiled down into one thought right then and there: 'fuck no, i am far from okay'.
you had one tear come down, then two, then... a whole waterfall of tears came pouring down your eyes as you finally released that sob you had been desperately keeping in. you had released it out into the air as it mingled with miles' shushing and gentle whispers as he held you while you leaned against him, wailing as you tried telling him how nothing had been right lately. you choked out in broken cries how you desperately wanted a way out of everything horrible that's been happening but you didn't want anyone else to be bothered by your 'stupid, insignificant problems'.
"i just... want to be okay... but i can't even pretend to be okay for at least one damn day." "please, stop pretending, mi vida. it's hurting me how you... how you think it's strength to rake up everything by yourself... when you clearly need help." miles said with a cracked voice as he felt himself choke up at your melancholic state. you cried even more out of guilt that you saddened miles, but he kissed your forehead, cheek–your whole face as he murmured words of reassurance, of love, to you to calm you down and comfort you. "you're not alone, not anymore... i don't care if some idiots in your life want you to deal with alone, never to bother them–you're never a bother to me, got that?" he mutters to you as he holds you close, letting you sob into his shoulder, your sobs getting louder and louder all the while. he shushes you and rubs your back gently, kissing your wet cheeks as he keeps reminding you that no matter what you're going through, what problems you're having, he's always going to be there for you–be the help you'll need, one way or another.
"please, don't be scared, mi vida... you can be honest with me. i promised to love you with all my heart, protect you, and... always be the help you'll need."
he whispered to you as he looked into your eyes and gently wiped your tears away and leaned his forehead against yours, hoping you would be more lenient, more understanding towards yourself and your own needs; and that you wouldn't hesitate to ask him for help. because even if you don't ask him to, he'll be there to help you, be there to guide you, be there to comfort you the best he can. because he loves you, and knows you deserve more than what you think you deserve, that you deserve... the best of the best, and nothing less.

Maybe Tonowari and Ronal adopting Spider modern/human au hc?
Okay, I wrote a little bit and then I also but some headcanons and stuff at the bottom :) lemme know if you want to hear more.
Spider wasn’t a pessimist, he was a realist. He didn’t think of the worst, he just knew that after so long, nothing good would be coming his way. Ten different foster homes in half as many years. He was fourteen and alone.
Norm, his social worker and only actual friend, was overworked and underpaid. He had a lot to deal with and Spider was just a box to check off of his To Do List. He was a good guy and he always made sure Spider was somewhere safe, but as the boy had gotten older, he’d also lost hope alongside Spider. Neither of them thought he’d get adopted. He had two years until he’d be old enough to emancipate himself and Norm knew he was just biding him time.
So, it was weird that he seemed excited about his next placement. Spider had been stuck in a group home for two weeks after his last foster family— the Sully’s —had to suddenly move, leaving the teen behind. They’d been plenty apologetic and he hadn’t even been with them for a full year, so it shouldn’t have hurt as much as it did. He shouldn’t have been so stupid as to think they’d want to take him with.
Maybe the enthusiasm was Norm trying to cheer his charge up after a shitty month. Maybe he’d finally cracked and was slowly turning into the Joker or Green Goblin or something. He wouldn’t mind a Hulked-out version of his social worker. It’d probably be funny to watch.
They suburb they pulled into was nice. They’d driven further south, towards the state’s coast. It was only three hours away, but it felt like a entirely different world. Ignoring the tourist-traps littering main street and the absurd amount of bikes, it looked peaceful and bright. Norm explained that his newest foster parents ran a fishery and a charter company. Spider didn’t think it was a good fit. He didn’t even know how to swim.
When they stopped in front of the large house in the center of the block, a pair of tall adults were already waiting, sat on the porch in a matching set of white rocking chairs. It was like something out of a TV show, too perfect. The overturned bike on the front lawn helped bring him back to reality. His skateboard was in the trunk of the car, along with his suitcase and a duffel bag of clothes. Lo’ak had insisted that he keep half of the decor from their shared room, even though a lot of it had already been there when he’d arrived.
“How many kids did you say they had?” He asked as Norm put the car in park.
“Two. Aounung and Tsireya. I think he’s sixteen and she’s . . . fifteen? Maybe your age, I can’t remember.”
Neteyam had been sixteen. He wasn’t much of a big brother when it came to Spider, but it wasn’t like he was Spider’s actual younger brother. The thought made his throat feel tight. He opened the car door, swallowing down saliva. First impressions were important and he was about to make a lot of them. New house, new school, same old Spider.
Spider wears shoes a size too big, a habit from childhood. He used to grow too fast as a kid and even though he'd stopped at 5"7, he bought clothes and shoes big just in case.
When he first gets settled, he's kind of wary of the other kids in the house. (No Baby in this AU, because babies are a handful and so are Spiders). I think Tsireya would definitely take him under her wing and try to help him get comfortable and stuff. Set up his room, make sure he's okay with the food and knows where everything is. Despite being a year younger, she's definitely a Big Sister when it come to him.
Aounung kind of ignores him at first, busy with school and learning about his parent's business, intending to take over at some point. But, I think if Spider was getting bullied or something, he'd definitely go into Big Brother mode and that'd kind of spark an interest/empathy.
With the Parents, I think Tonowari would probably be busy working a lot of the time, but he'd make an effort to be there for dinner every night and make sure to check in with each kid before bed. Definitely a gentle giant. I can see Spider being intimidated at first, with the tattoos and Tonowari's sheer size, not to mention he's probably ripped after spending most of his life fishing and swimming. I think the turning point for Spider would be Tonowari driving him to get new shoes or for a doctor's appointment or something one weekend and putting on, like, ABBA or Dolly Parton or something in the car and singing along. He doesn't even need to actually like that type of music, but it's disarming and gets a laugh from Spider. (Also, Tonowari trying to squeeze into a waiting room chair like he isn't 6"7 and shredded).
With Ronal, I can see Spider watching her do one of the other kid's hair and her offering to do his. (In Modern AU's, I think Spider would have long, curly hair like Olan Prenatt from Mid-90s (the guy who played Fuck-Shit). Except, he has no clue how to keep his hair from being a frizzy mess, so he just pulls it back most of the time. And he hesitates, remembering a foster mother once cutting his hair off while he was sleeping (which might have led to him growing it out in the first place) and then deciding to trust her to take care of it, of him.
Spider tries to run away a few months after arriving. He failed a test and got into a fight after school and he's sure he's about to be sent away. So, he decided to leave first. Maybe, it would be easier that way. Hurt less. (It doesn't.)
Aounung ends up finding him crying on the beach at like midnight and flat-out carries him home, refusing to let him down. Because, they were scared, dammit.
This is all I have so far for a modern AU, but lmk if you want to hear more! Also, guess who just started a Medical Assistant program online? ME. If anyone is in the medical field and has any tips, I'd greatly appreciate it!

ORV Characters Ranked by Least to Most Likely to Commit White Collar Crime
You guys said you wanted my ORV takes, and I try not to say things unsolicited, so I'll drop the good meta-analysis and literary criticism that I'm known for. For comedy purposes please pretend that ORV is American.
Omniscent Reader's Viewpoint characters broken down by likelihood to commit white collar crime, least to most:
Lee Hyeonseong: he's convinced that he's never committed a crime in his life. Intentionally, of course not. Unintentionally, he takes shopping for groceries extremely seriously, and is sometimes so wrapped up in the fruit inspection experience that he'll leave without paying. Due to his innocent face, bulk, and sheer confidence, he's never caught. In an economically thrifty maneuver, KDJ always sends him on snack runs for parties and texts him math problems while he's there. He insists it's like couponing. It's not couponing.
Jeong Huiwon: similarly, of course she would never choose to commit a crime. Also similarly, when KDJ says, 'Hey, wanna commit a crime?' she always participates. Since the crime is normally targeted at rich people, KDJ can usually morally justify it to her. She calls this harm reduction. It's not harm reduction.
Lee Jihye: would love to commit a crime in theory, almost never in practice. She has an idealized image in her mind of the ideal high school experience and it involves grand theft auto. However, the worst she ever gets is breaking & entering and trespassing, mostly because she didn't stop to wonder if the building was abandoned or not. She can't even shoplift from Claire's.
Shin Yuseung: the kind of kid who sets the dissection frogs in the school laboratory free. Looks up illegal exotic animal trading on the deepweb and sighs in longing. But exotic pet trading isn't very Animal Rights of her, so she just leaks information to the CIA and busts the rings. Lee Gilyeong convinces her to track down shady sellers on Craigslist and bust their kneecaps. Neither of them view this as significantly different from the dissection frog liberation. KDJ gets her a rescued exotic cat for her birthday as a reward.
Lee Gilyeong: self-explanatory.
Han Suyeong: she's been pirating media since she was eleven and has never stopped. World-class expert in pirating everything. She's the unsung hero who rips the CDs and games and puts them online. Runs the pirating websites. Has never paid for a webnovel or manwha or manga in her life. Despite this, she insists that pirating books is immoral and that people should support small authors. The FBI knows she exists and has been trying to catch her for years. She brags about this constantly.
Yoo Sangah: has committed tax fraud before, will commit tax fraud tomorrow, is currently committing tax fraud. Embezzles her company's embezzlement. Insists that she's only committing victimless crimes, mainly because she doesn't view business executives as people. Her ability to evade the IRS is mythological and it's how KDJ got a crush on her.
Yoo Junghyeok: does not understand adult life well enough to knowingly commit any sort of white collar crime. He is this high on the list because he enables and helps KDJ in literally everything he does, especially using his clout as an influencer. This is because KDJ has convinced him that these things aren't crimes, and he doesn't understand adult life well enough to figure it out.
Kim Dokja: has done every white collar crime under the sun. I can't emphasize enough how much crime he does. He's currently blackmailing SYS's college tuition out of a US Senator. HSY makes the shell companies and launders so much money with him. Alternates between running a pyramid scheme and a ponzi scheme depending on the month. Started a cult that one time but we don't like to talk about that. Runs the betting ring for YJH's esports games. Fixes the games. YJH does not know he does this, but KDJ splits the profits and Yoo Mia also needs a college tuition so he decides not to think about it too hard. Big into crypto and runs every crypto scam you can possibly think of, which is normally where the the ponzi schemes come in. Steals YJH's identity often. Somehow everything he does is technically legal. The only crime he does not commit is pirating. Exclusively targets the wealthy and ultra-wealthy and has never stolen money from a poor person. Sugar daddies all of his friends and pays all college tuitions. Anonymously yet obviously sponsors huge amounts of money to YJH's Twitch streams, mostly in apology for the ID theft. Would really rather be living a quiet life in a big house with all of his friends, but that big house ain't gonna pay for itself.

How Good the RvB Main Cast is at Cooking, Ranked from Best to Worst
1. Donut
Donut gives off the vibe of one of those gay men with a baking channel on YouTube. This man's out here rolling up to the red team monthly dinner club with frenched rack of lamb with a pistachio mint crust and wine accompaniment, then earl grey souffle with creme anglaise for dessert. He spends hours experimenting with new and interesting ingredients. Remy Ratatouille, send-you-back-to-rural-France ass man. Donut's food fucks hard and everyone knows it.
2. Grif
You really think my man Grif loves food as much as he does and doesn't know how to make it? C'mon. He doesn't, like, relish the act of cooking as much as he does having a good plate of food at the end of it. And he's not typically much for sharing. But my guy makes a damn good short rib and bechamel lasagna. Give him the day to let something slow cook, and god damn.
3. Wash
Wash has been living off of MREs for probably his entire adult life, but I feel like he's got a few dishes he can whip out for a date night, or if he's feeling fancy. He knows how to read a recipe, and he has a pretty good idea of what flavors go together to make something good. He probably has a really nice papardelle with vinho verde sauce that he has sitting around in the back of his head for special occasions.
4. Tucker
Okay, Tucker isn't a bad cook by any means, ok? He's great with breakfast food specifically. It's just that he isn't especially fancy about it. He was probably, like, a line cook at Denny's in high school, so all his food tastes like food you would get at Denny's. Which isn't a bad thing! You would just never call Denny's "fine dining". He has his niche, and he does it well, and he never feels even a little bit inclined to do anything different or better.
5. Church (Alpha)
Church isn't much of a foodie right off the bat, but someone's got to pack Caboose's lunch, and he ends up learning how to cook fairly well after that. After a certain point, he figures out how to make things from scratch--mostly things like chicken nuggets, mac and cheese, pancakes.
6. Simmons
I feel like Simmons mostly lives off of shit like green smoothies and homemade granola. Like, hardcore, low carb, vegan, all organic, high protein diet. And, like, it doesn't taste BAD. But it definitely isn't the kind of thing you bring to the red team dinner club. He does make a really nice sunbutter brownie that he has to hide from Grif.
7. Caboose
Caboose has been banned from using any objects in the kitchen that involve a heat source--which isn't HIS fault! How was he supposed to know that you're supposed to take the spoon OUT of the mac and cheese before putting it in the microwave? That's just a recipe for a cold spoon! Anyways, he manages just fine without the microwave, thank you very much. He can make ants on a log like it's nobody's business. Cleaning up afterwards is another matter entirely.
8. Carolina
Carolina is one of the most competent individuals you will ever meet. She could kill you in under a minute, in 30 different ways, and that's just with her bare hands. The fourth time Sarge tries to recruit her into red team is by inviting her to the monthly dinner club. She shows up empty handed, and when Donut very politely asks what she brought, she replies that it's very interesting that they expected the only woman on the team to go all out with cooking. They move on. Carolina spent 5 hours in the kitchen this afternoon trying to figure out how to use the oven. But they don't need to know that.
9. Tex
Now, listen. Tex can't be called a bad cook, precisely, because that would require she cook for herself or others. Which is something she does not do. That's what Church is for, isn't it?
10. Sarge
Sarge refuses to step foot in a kitchen after the fifth shouting match about how flamethrowers are not a universally recognized kitchen appliance.
11. Church (Epsilon)
One time, while blue team is shooting the wind, Caboose asks Epsilon what his favorite breakfast food is. Instead of calling Caboose a dumbass, as per usual, he instead goes into extensive detail about how he eats computer keys like cereal. Caboose tries it. It isn't very good.

Misc. DD2 Character Intro - Rickard [x]
▐ BASICS
Name: Rickard Kralle
Nicknames: Baker, Art, Rick
Race: Human
Age: 29
Sex/Gender: Cis male
Orientation: Bisexual
Occupation/Education: Baker with the knowledge of baking obtained from his parents and villagers who all raised him together.
▐ APPEARANCE
Physique: 187 cm height, gently fit, with more muscle in his biceps from doing a lot of work with hands. His physique exposes a hardworking lifestyle.
Scars: a clawmark across the left side of his face that narrowly evades his eye. He earned this scar in an unfortunate encounter with a chimaera cub.
Other distinguishing physical features: Face and shoulders are peppered in freckles that slightly fade in colder seasons.
Fashion style: Very plain and unadorned linen shirts and trousers with a simple vest that matches the colour of trousers. He sews his own pockets on his clothing where he keeps various knicknacks such as keys, coins, and some snack nuts.
▐ BACKGROUND
Place of birth: Harve Village
Key family members: Mother and father, two siblings - an older sister and a younger brother.
Relationship with family: The siblings worked with the adults in the village and picked up skills along with everyone. They annoyed each other and fought a lot but with age mellowed out. Sister married early and left the village to live in Checkpoint Rest Town. Younger brother remained in Harve village with the fishermen and Rickard left for Vernworth where grain fields seemed more favourable. As adults they send each other letters and meet up once every few months.
Notable events/milestones: Successfully opened a bakery in Vernworth and primarily makes pastries so as to fill a niche and not take away from the other local bread baker. They’ve become coworkers of a sort.
Current position in life: With the Arisen gone and the world back to normal, Rickard returned to Vernworth to his old life to continue running his business. He is taking his time adjusting to the fact his lover is gone along with the brine. It’s as though it’s always been like this. The world was never going to end, and there were no evacuations. Like it all was just a dream. So he is back where he was but is he really the same as he was before?
Skeletons in the closet: He was the Arisen’s beloved. And currently houses a pawn from a world where the cycle still exists. Pawns no longer exist in the timeline he is in. The few that do, get there through mistakes or other unusual means. They also seem to nurse their own little wills.
▐ PERSONALITY
Temperament: Ambiverted mix of phlegmatic and sanguine.
Key personality traits: Patient, caring, outgoing, sees people eye to eye. Hope dies last sort of guy.
Mannerisms: Has a goofy laugh. He uses his hands a lot when he talks.
Skills/talents: Has the full arsenal of mundane skills. Can hunt, can cook, can work the field, and build simple structures, fix broken oxcarts.
Morals/Virtues: He chooses to go as far as necessary to solve things peacefully.
Phobias/Fears: Chimaeras for obvious reasons.
Bad habits: He has a habit of living in the future instead of savouring the present. Tends to over-prepare.
Desires: Find love and live a fulfilling life together. Travel North of Vermund.
Flaws: Can’t swim, but eager to learn. Terrible at board games, often nicks himself when shaving, doesn’t eat onions.
▐ MISCELLANEOUS
Opinion on the Arisen: A noble and kind soul whom Rickard is going to miss for all eternity. In his opinion anyway.
Opinion of Pawns: Strange, uncanny.
Thoughts on the Dragon: Devastating force of nature. Couldn’t be gladder that the Dragon is now gone.
How do they view Royalty (Battahl, Vermund or Otherwise): Rickard thinks the royals are out of touch, but Sven seems to have a good head on his shoulders so that might change. The nobles are not to be trifled with though they are the worst of customers when it comes to selling pastries to them.
Thoughts on the commonfolk (Battahl, Vermund or Otherwise): He tries to memorise everyone’s name and keep neutral standing with those he meets each day. Colourful bunch of people. Definitely less tight knit than those who live in villages. The city life is a bit lonelier for sure.
Is travelling a trifle for them? Yes/No, why?: Rickard uses oxcart services when he has goods that are too heavy to carry that he needs to get to his sister in Checkpoint Rest Town. He always feels a little uneasy and never dozes off while riding the cart. And then he passes out once at his destination. Fighting off large monsters is not a fun time and the oxcart doesn’t always escape unscathed. Not a trifle at all. When there’s nothing to transport though he chooses to go on foot and escape any threat.
Do they know of the Cycle and if yes, how?: Yes. He fucked the Arisen and got kidnapped by the Dragon and saw the Unmoored World. He’s a bit messed up by it.
How likely would it be for them to get involved in core events (without them knowing): Yeag.

CW: Chrissy's mom. Specifically being body shamey and ableist. Also characters being pressured into a relationship they don't want to be in.
Okay but ST season 4 AU where everyone lives, including Chrissy and Jason. Like, Vecna breaks his victims and traps his victims in their own minds instead of killing them so he can feed off their life forces or whatever and Chrissy is found in the trailer broken and covered in upsidedown goop but still alive so everyone's like. This is some weird supernatural bullshit. And Jason still leads a witch-hunt.
After it all, Chrissy is awake and recovering and she breaks up with Jason for being the worst. And her mom is like. You're legally an adult, you chased away a good man, because you're bed bound for now you lost your cheerleading scholarship and the only thing that makes you worth anything. You can't even get a job in your current state. You need a man. If you let me set you up with a rich eligible bachelor and don't fuck it up, we will pay your hospital bills, maybe even college.
Meanwhile Steve is a hero, and is a publicity asset for the Harringtons, and for the first time since he graduated high school has some kind of value to his parents. He's being celebrated, and if they set him up with one of their business partner's kids they can curry favor. More so if it's the poor injured Cunningham girl who is beloved and lauded by the town for being victims of the bizarre serial killer, Henry Creel.
(Ignore the goo and the vines and the crack in the ground that used to be main street there was a serial killer and an earthquake and they were totally unrelated.)
So Steve and Chrissy are both being pressured by their parents into a relationship that even conceptually makes them uncomfortable. But she can't back out without starting adulthood in a wheelchair in crippling debt. And while Steve could probably survive being disowned and his parents' ire his abandonment issues and desperate people pleaser tendencies make him not want to piss off his parents, disappoint the Cunninghams, or hurt Chrissy's feelings.
So they go on a lot of very uncomfortable dates. And they kind of get along. And Steve breaks down and full on Robin word vomits that she's great and he's sure she'll find a great guy but he really doesn't want to upset their parents or hurt her feelings- but he really really doesn't feel that way about her- and it's not because she's in a wheelchair or anything- one of his kids is in a wheelchair- well not his kid- there's these kids he babysits- that's not the point- he's really really sorry, but he kind has a crush on someone else, and he can't keep pretending to date her to make other people happy, and he's really sorry. And she's like. Holy shit.
And he just broke down so she feels comfortable explaining her situation and he, overwhelmed by his protector instincts, agrees to keep up the appearance of dating until her hospital bills are paid and she can make her own choices about what she wants.
So they keep doing public dates and stuff. But outside of that, he invites her to meet his friends, cause she lost a lot of hers in everything. She's been really lonely, and she's very sweet and kind of dorky so she gets along with everyone.
And Steve told Robin everything because she's Robin, but not everyone else because he didn't want to get into his parents bullshit or expose Chrissy's baggage so they're all nice to her and get along but they're a little weird about it because that's Chrissy Cunningham. And Steve's dating her???
Also Robin is weird around her because hot girl, but everyone thinks she's jealous which is a weird dynamic. Chrissy thinks Robin is Steve's crush and keeps talking Steve up to Robin and talking about how Robin's great and how close she and Steve are and how nice that is. And it's very awkward.
Eddie is insanely jealous and he knows that Robin's a lesbian so he's like. Oh she has a crush on her best friend's straight girlfriend. That sucks. And he also hates that he can't hate Chrissy, because she's so fucking nice and sweet to him.
(Nancy, Jon and Argyle are all on varying levels of knowing something is up but are staying out of it because they are too stoned to parse what specifically is happening or too stubborn to admit that they made some wrong assumptions.)
(the kids don't care much beyond being glad that Steve wasn't flirting with every age appropriate girl he crossed paths with anymore)
And then Chrissy figures out that a) whoops she has a crush on her fake boyfriend's best friend (Robin). b) Steve and Eddie are in love. And c) Eddie thinks she and Steve are for real. So Chrissy tries to explain to Eddie that their relationship is fake without spilling Steve's baggage, and mentions that she doesn't even like Steve like that she actually likes Robin.
Through some miscommunication Eddie now thinks Steve is unknowingly Chrissy's beard. And he doesn't want to out Chrissy but he's a little upset that she's using his crush totally platonic guy friend this way.
Meanwhile Chrissy tries to team up with Robin to get Steve and Eddie together. Because Robin clearly loves Steve and Eddie and wants them to be happy even if she hates Chrissy for some reason. (Again Robin doesn't hate Chrissy she's just super awkward).
Boundless shenanigans ensue.
