Everyone in the medical profession should have to, say once every three months, spend 48 hours subject to horrible debilitating side effects of any variety of drugs -- and be made to work those 48 hours straight without a break...

They should of course not be the one actually deciding anything for patients, but *trying* to accurately diagnose them and shadow treating them (with a non medicated doctor actually doing it besides them) so they can see a tiny glimmer of life as someone disabled or with chronic health issues. Just a glimpse! Multiple times a year. So by the time they've forgotten they get a whole new experience in our misery.

Medical schools don’t teach their students well about disability, which can have negative effects for both disabled patients and disabled medical students, according to a new study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.

Researchers found that medical school curriculum often treats disability as a problem, leading students to make negative assumptions about the health and quality of life of people with disabilities. That makes them ill-prepared for treating disabled patients.

The overall attitude also results in fewer disabled people becoming doctors.

“Doctors do not know how to care for people with disabilities because they never learned,” lead author Carol Haywood, PhD, assistant professor at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, said in a press release.

“Ultimately, our work reveals how medical education may be playing a critical role in creating and perpetuating ideas that people with disabilities are uncommon and unworthy in health care.” (Read more at link)

Been hearing about this a little bit for a few weeks, has previously only heard of it related to ADHD and Pain meds. Apparently it's more than that?

When you search for yours, check the specifics. I checked one of mine and it says discontinued but it's at a lower dose and seems to only be from one pharmaceutical company. I haven't heard anything about it being discontinued as a whole and I think I would have...

I checked another that's on that list and I get nothing back of it being in a shortage. So, you know, it's the FDA. They're only semi-helpful...

Last time I bought glasses - 2018, because it's so fucking expensive 🫰- it cost me $600. $100 for the frames, $500 for the lenses. I need new ones but because of sensory issues, I need to feel them on my face and it takes me a long time to find a pair I like both the feel and look of, so it's just expensive and a huge chore. And I can't make use of the new ways of them sending you a few pairs to try in the mail and what not because yay another disability of mine conflicts with my need to see properly. Sigh.

Made the mistake of bringing up that needing glasses is a disability on tiktok and people got real mad.

“You can fix it with glasses” yeah, cuz they’re a disability aid? But like, I still have to pay 160 bucks to use my own fucking eyes?

Like, by definition, if your eyes do not work without aid, you have a disability to see.

Having a disability doesn’t automatically put you in what people consider the “disabled” category, but that doesn’t change the fact that it is in fact, a disability.

If you're disabled, this could be a good thing for you to try. I have a setup like this myself. Otherwise, after a while, my arms ache from holding the dumb phone up. If you get a good one - strong enough clamp - and rig it up right (it has to be at a length so that your arm is at rest or it doesn't help) it can be great for taking the stress and energy off of your arm/s. (The photo I swiped from Amazon shows it's probably too high up for arms reach at rest but it's a suitable illustration.)
