DHADKAN ZINDAGGI KI EPISODE ONE :
i just started watching this serial, the very first scene of the episode had me hooked. those two young boys *in their jawani ka josh* wanted to help this lady and judging her driving skills because of gender and here boom we have her knowing the actual issue and a pinch of comedy. then we see an AMBITIOUS person in the hospital in that young boy and he had this anger for that lady who made him lose his first big surgery. then we see that lady doing the surgery successfully. the character arcs, this young boy wanted to do the surgery because of her mother, his mother wanted to see him as a doctor. so he is angry towards her. she, has this trauma of her one failure. if you are a surgeon, there should be no failures, you should be extra careful, but due to her one failure in past, she has no job now. that was clearly visible in her when another problem arises after the surgery. when that boy says, *aapki gut feeling galat bhi tho ho sakthi hai na*, it hit her HARDDD. her all bad memories came back to her, she knows she can't afford another mistake, but if she didn't inject now she don't know what will be the patients comdition. the potrayal of her confusion is soo good. and another side we see this boy trying to find out the truth. this scene was done soo beautifully. then we see families of both of them, both have difficulties, that is soo good. the bgm, damnnnnn soo intriguing. that *pyaar ki baat nahi hai, RESPECT* iss soo true. while consoling nimmo aunty, the way he says i felt like somebody left him alone (may be his father idk). dr. sathe and dr. sinha looming forward for youuu both. that's it for episode one, will be back with another one soon!! ✨️
FINALLY :
**bheed mein koye rehna se behtar hai akele mein khudko dhoond lena** - dr. sathe 🫶

Ok, follow up post to the original cause I wanted to actually offer my analysis/interpretation on this.
I feel like this is a right/left brain analogy 🧵
Dazai covering his right side, the side supposedly responsible for the emotional & artistic things. It says alot about his mindset, accurate for that time.
It’s intriguing, then, Kouyou covers the “logical” side

I feel like this lends to why Chuuya & Kouyou do get along well. While both Chuuya & Kouyou are no doubt very intelligent (Asagiri literally refers to Chuuya as a genius) they both still lean very much into their emotional side as well. Even if Kouyou seemingly does so less.
Kouyou reveals herself, however, not only in her care for Chuuya but we mainly see it how she handled the situation with Kyoka.
She could have insisted Kyoka come back without ever changing her mind but when Dazai presents her with a way to save Kyoka from dark, she agrees quickly.
Kouyou clearly cares & wanted to help & protect Kyoka even if she went about it poorly. She was trying to help based on her past experiences, lest we forget that she tried to leave the mafia herself once, for *love* no less. She also tends to get emotional when talking about her past or her wish to help Kyoka.
But once she was presented with another solution, a far better one, she didn’t do “what’s best for the mafia”. Kouyou agreed to what was best for Kyoka & that was definitely a more emotional choice.
This is an area where Chuuya & Kouyou align. So, of course they would get along.
Chuuya always seems to find the balance between his logic and emotion. However, he can easily & often does lean more into his emotional side first, then his logical side.
It’s similar for Kouyou, even if we don’t see it as much from her.
Back to Dazai then, when he left the mafia & the cover on Dazai’s “emotional side” was gone Dazai seemed to also move more towards that balancing of the two sides.
He started off heavily relying on his logical brain & struggled emotionally. Often feeling numb or apathetic mostly, hence his suicidal ideation.
Then he meets Chuuya & this shifts. Chuuya forces him to experience new feelings. As Chuuya is a living breathing example of most things Dazai felt the world lacked. It opened Dazai to the idea that there is more to the world, there is more to *people*. Chuuya intrigues Dazai enough to make him want to live a little longer again. Chuuya gave him a reason to keep going, a promise of more.
From the moment he met Chuuya, it was a process of letting more & more emotions seep into his mind & his heart. We see how he feared for Chuuya in 15 even after they just met, even though Dazai *knew* it was a plan.

I might even venture to go as far as to say Dazai may not have feared for someone else’s life that hard before. It was a burst of unrecognizable emotions to him. After this, he only had more & more emotion seep in as the years went by. In Storm Bringer he was ready to sacrifice the city to give Chuuya a choice.
That relationship opened Dazai up to others later, namely Oda & Ango. Which only further encouraged the intermingling of his logical brain and his emotions. Then reaching the point at which the bandages were finally removed entirely and then he, like Chuuya, moved to striving to find the balance rather than relying on one side.
Bringing us back to current Dazai as he is still attempting to find that balance.
He still leans more towards his logical side. This, of course, in contrast to Chuuya who, while intelligent, more easily leans into the emotional.
Yet another thing between them that completes & balances each other. Soukoku will always pull the other back when drifting too far.
So, of course, Soukoku complement each other & it benefits them both.
Having Kouyou on Chuuya’s other side I think also does help Chuuya stay grounded while in the mafia. Chuuya isn’t one to lose who he is but I think having someone else who he knows *cares* like he does helps.

Now, additionally, if we apply this to Beast, I think this also says alot about beast Dazai & why Asagiri says beastzai would be the hardest for someone to portray.
Because *this* Dazai, is perhaps *too* far into his emotional side. He’s always intelligent but in beast, his actions aren’t fully logical, they’re emotional.
He appears cold & calculating as always but he saw another version of himself suffer the great loss of a best friend & allowed his emotional desire to prevent that from happening take control. Thus, his emotional side takes over, thus him covering the opposite side from canon Dazai, he’s covering his “logical” side.
I feel like this is the main difference between all the various Dazai we’ve seen.
PM Dazai relied heavily on his logical side, especially before meeting Chuuya. He rarely took emotion into account unless it involved the 3 people he actually cared for. We see him make emotional choices when it involves Chuuya, Oda, and Ango. Dazai did seem to let more and more emotion seep in over time as a result of knowing them, however, leading to that moment the bandages are removed.
Beastzai is leaning far too heavily into his emotional side, getting lost in it even. Acting solely on an emotional desire rather than a logical one. His desire to prevent a tragedy. He only was using his intellect to further that emotional desire.
Canonzai went through a steady progression, meeting Chuuya starts to open him up, this extending over time to Oda & Ango, leading to the cover on his “emotional” side being taken off.
But beastzai skipped all of that, all the *progression* to that point for canonzai & so beastzai just got all these intense emotions he never experienced before all at once when he saw canonzai’s memories & therefore he sunk far too deep, too quickly into his emotions.
Now current/ADA Dazai is the balance of the two extremes, and seemingly the closest to happiness.
ADA Dazai uses his logical brain as always but he also actually takes emotion into account as well and has more people he actually cares for now.
I think that says alot to the theme of bsd, leaning into that “everything is grey” dynamic. Everything is about the *balance* of things. Showcasing that anything in extremes in either direction doesn’t work.
Anyway, just some thoughts I had and interpretations of mine. Take them as you want, as always.
Oh and just to be clear, I don’t think Dazai was ever “emotionless”, even at his worse. Even if he was numb and apathetic. He was also lonely.
Just saying the more people he came to care about (Chuuya, Oda, Ango then later the ADA) the more he was able to feel a variety of emotion.

a cameron family vacation: a travel day
masterlist | kook!reader masterlist
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5
When Rafe invited y/n to his vacation to Italy, she wasn’t surprised. She had tagged along on numerous Cameron family vacations… mostly because Rafe refused to go if he couldn’t bring her with him. What she was surprised by, however, was that the Camerons had agreed to let Sarah bring John B with them. Seeing as y/n had the unique trait of being both friends with Sarah and Rafe (and also Wheezie), trips always just seemed to “work out” and go down without too much sibling infighting. But by throwing John B, Sarah’s romantic partner and someone Rafe couldn’t stand nonetheless, the sacred balance of the trip was immediately thrown into chaos.
It started on the plane when Sarah and John B opted to cuddle and giggle flirtily with each other for perhaps the entire duration of the flight.
“Can you cut that shit out? I’m trying to fucking eat here.” Rafe sneered, taking another bite of his apple. Y/n elbowed him, trying to prevent an argument before it inevitability would occur. The setup of the Cameron’s jet was a bit unfortunate, forcing y/n and Rafe to stare directly at the couple for the duration of the flight.
“I’m surprised you can even hear us over how loud you’re chewing.” Sarah snapped, her and John B straightening in their seats but their hands still entwined.
“Well I can see it and that’s enough.” Rafe scowled, taking a final bite of his apple before tossing the core into one of the nearby trash cans.
“Cut it out.” A harsh voice cut through the siblings’ bickering: Ward. Sarah and John B rolled their eyes before returning their gazes to each other. Y/n peered over at Rafe, noticing the way his hand gripped the armrest between them, and grabbing his hand softly. Rafe closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, and sinking back into his seat.
“We’re almost to Italia.” Y/n whispered with a quirk of her brow. Rafe opened his eyes once more, peering at her out of the corner of his eye.
“Italia, huh?” Rafe teased, bumping his shoulder against y/n’s in a way that made her giggle as she rested her head onto his shoulder.
“Oh so you guys are allowed to mess around but—” John B started but was cut off when Sarah slapped his arm harshly. Rafe shot him a look, and if looks could kill, John B would be a dead man.
“Shut the fuck up you—” Rafe started, but was stopped when Wheezie stepped between the couple and Rafe and y/n, a jumble of yarn in her hands.
“Y/n I think I did something wrong.” Wheezie groaned, holding up her… blanket? Scarf? Y/n wasn’t quite sure. Just the past week Wheezie had spotted y/n crocheting and asked if she could teach her. So, the rest of the afternoon was spent teaching her to crochet and Rafe whining about how y/n wasn’t paying any attention to him (not that he would admit that).
“Let me see.” Y/n sat up, letting go of Rafe’s hand as she grabbed the mess of yarn from Wheezie. The two girls examined the situation closely, throwing out all sorts of terms that went over Rafe’s head as he watched. In spite of himself, he found a smile creep across his lips as he watched y/n go through instructions step by step, patiently answering any and all questions Wheezie asked.
“Thank you, y/n.” Wheezie smiled widely as she took the salvaged crochet project back from y/n and returned to her seat. Sitting back in her seat, y/n spared a glance at Rafe and noticed the cheesy grin on his face.
“What?” Y/n scowled.
“Nothing.” Rafe shrugged, putting the armrest between them up and resting his arm across y/n’s shoulders, pulling her into his side.
The sun had already begun to set when the jet finally landed, the travel party already feeling groggy from the time change and tense flight. Thankfully, the drive from the airport to the hotel was short, the Camerons filing into the lobby as the bellhops took their bags up to the room.
“Ok so the room situation is gonna be a bit different this time around since we have additional guests.” Rose said, handing out the keys to the hotel room. Y/n didn’t miss the bit of sharpness in Rose’s voice, likely directed at John B (and probably her too) as she watched her give them their keys. Sure she’d been friends with Rafe and Sarah for as long as she could remember, but that by no means meant she liked Rose or god forbid Ward.
“There are two single rooms and one double,” Rose explained as they made their way into the elevator. “Your father and I will be in one and Sarah and y/n will be in the other. The boys will be in the double—”
“Oh hell no!” Rafe scoffed, his voice nearly a shout as the doors to the elevator closed.
“What?!” Sarah put her hands on her hips, a scowl on her face. “Rose, we’re not children, John B—”
“Where am I gonna sleep?” Wheezie piped up, but was swiftly ignored as the Camerons continued to talk over each other.
“Mrs Cameron, do you know who your step-son is?” John B cringed as he looked at Rafe.
“Fine, then y/n and John B can share the double and you and Rafe can share the single.” Rose said to Sarah, which caused the groans from the group to grow louder. Y/n and John B looked at eachother, disgust painted on each of their faces.
“No, no, y/n is not sleeping with a fucking pogue!” Rafe snapped, which caused John B to scoff.
“Watch your mouth!” Ward gripped Rafe’s shoulder roughly, his tone causing a shiver to run down y/n’s spine. Luckily, the elevator’s door opened and Ward promptly released his son.
“Sarah and John B you will sleep in the double, with Wheezie… on the floor or with Sarah— I don’t care. Y/n and Rafe will sleep in the single. We won’t have any problems. I don’t want to hear any complaints.” Ward said sternly
“But Rafe gets to—” Sarah began.
“I don’t want to hear any complaints, understood?” Ward raised his brows, his sharp gaze passing over all of the Camerons and their guests before stepping out of the elevator. Y/n let out a breath she hadn’t even realized she was holding before following the Cameron’s patriarch.
“At least we don’t have to share with Wheezie.” Rafe muttered, causing y/n to elbow him lightly in the ribs.
“I can hear you, you know that right?” Wheezie shot back with a scowl. Y/n giggled and Rafe ruffled Wheezie’s hair before throwing his arm over y/n’s shoulders as they stopped in front of the door to their suite. Ward unlocked the door, holding it open as everyone filed through. However, before y/n and Rafe could enter in, Ward stopped Rafe with another grip on his shoulder.
“We won’t have any problems with sleeping arrangements, will we?” Ward said, his voice low as his eyes darted between Rafe and y/n. Y/n’s eyes widened at his implication, Rafe’s cheeks flushing a soft pink before he quickly shook his head. They had shared a bed thousands of times at Tanneyhill, something about Rafe being too lazy to walk back and forth between his room and the guest room each time he inevitably couldn’t sleep and needed to talk to her in the middle of the night. Sure, Ward and Rose would shoot questioning looks at them when they’d walk down together in the morning or would hear giggles at two in the morning, but never had they been so… forward in their suspicions.
“No, sir.” Rafe sighed, his eyes avoiding his father’s as Ward’s grip finally loosened and he let the two of them into the room.
In typical Cameron fashion, the hotel suite was nothing short of spectacular. With a spacious living area across from a full kitchen, walls adorned with beautiful artwork, and, of course, plenty of crystal chandeliers, y/n felt a smile creep onto her face. She’d grown up well off, she was Kook of course, but there was something about this level of pampering that always made her head buzz… or maybe it was just because of the company.
“Y/n?” Rafe said with a grin, interrupting y/n’s admiration of the beautiful suite before guiding her into the room they’d be sharing for the week. Like the rest of the suite, the room was stunning. A king sized bed, large windows that looked out into the city, and a bathroom with perhaps the biggest shower y/n had ever seen.
With a huff, Rafe threw himself onto the bed, easing into the soft comforter with a groan. Y/n rolled her eyes before moving to unpack her suitcase. Once she was finished, she changed into her pajamas and finished up in the bathroom before heading back into the bedroom to finally get some sleep.
However, Rafe was already fast asleep, sprawled out across the entire bed. Having attempted to maneuver a drunken Rafe more times than she could count, y/n knew there was no point in trying to move him onto his own side or wake him up. So, with a couple strategic shoves to his side, y/n was able to finally make enough room for her to climb into the bed. One she was able to wiggle herself under the covers, she turned to look over at Rafe. His lips were a soft pink and his long lashes rested against his squished cheeks, a look of quiet contempt on his face as he slept peacefully. Y/n felt herself smile, pressing a light kiss to his forehead before drifting into a sleep much needed in preparation for the rest of the week.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — A federal judge on Monday temporarily blocked the Biden administration’s new Title IX rule expanding protections for LGBTQ+ students in six additional states, dealing another setback for a policy that has been under legal attack by Republican attorneys general.
U.S. District Judge Danny C. Reeves referred to the regulation as “arbitrary in the truest sense of the word” in granting a preliminary injunction blocking it in Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. His ruling comes days after a different federal judge temporarily blocked the new rule from taking effect in Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi and Montana. [...]

so there’s this audio that goes
‘you’re so crazy… i think i wanna have your babies.
Oh, I did’
and it just took me to,
imagine soccers moms or moms at school in general flirting with joel, even though they know he’s with reader and they are married in their own, but still — they do (bitches). and then one day, you both are picking up sammy from kindergarten or school and one of them says they want to have joel’s babies as a joke (not really a joke) and readers just straight up says ‘i did.’ and it turns joel on SOOO much!!
No outbreak!Joel Miller x f!reader
A/N: no but why do I love this so much? Bless your mind bestie 💝
• when Joel married you, he knew he was bound to see men flirting with you all the time as you were beautiful. He wasn't happy about the fact guys would still hover over you but there wasn't much he could do other than being protective
• what he had no idea would happen was that you felt the same thing towards him: Joel was a damn handsome attractive man and a lot of women would try to throw their charms at him even if he was clearly not interested at all or just dangling his wedding ring around
• so you both had to adapt to your new reality, very often joking with each other that was the price to pay for being a hot couple; the fact was that you loved and trusted each other and if someone else crossed the line you knew neither of you weren't to blame
• and that works just fine for your relationship, which doesn't necessarily mean you don't run out of patience eventually, especially because you had no idea the place you'd have to see women throwing themselves at your husband would be at school
• from the moment Sammy entered the kindergarten, you noticed how some of the moms would shoot glances at your husband and make comments on their own
• some of them already knew Joel from the time he would take and pick up Sarah from school, so seeing the handsome single parent found a wife and had a new child was a tad disappointment to them
• and being active parents like you both are, it's impossible not to run into the same group of parents every so often and it drives you insane how the moms don't even hide how attracted they are to Joel
• and we are talking about a bunch of bored housewives soccer moms who simply show up in their yoga pants and fake eyelashes batting their eyes to your husband with no shame in saying things such as:
"my husband is outta town and I need someone to fix the faucet in the kitchen, do you think you could help?"
or
"I was wondering if I could get your number so I'll call to discuss how it would cost me for you to fix my garage door"
• and of course Joel would give them his business card and tell them to call Tommy just in case they didn't actually mean business, and as much as you were patient and you trusted your handsome husband, it angered you to see they got the nerve
• so whenever you could, you would accompany Joel in the school events and days where the two of you managed to get off work earlier and pick up Sammy was even better, it was special to the three of you
• the way your son's eyes widened at the sight of both his mommy and daddy there to pick him up, just as the way his little legs barely could contain his excitement to rush to the two of you; not to mention his backpack looked bigger than himself, it was all amusing and sweet, you were sure you'd never get tired of it
"Mommy!!! Daddy!!!"
• he squealed excitedly rushing to you both and being met with a tight embrace that engulfed Sammy and you, Joel holding tight his most precious thing: his family
• and obviously that those ladies couldn't help but stare at how big and broad he was, how his strong arms were able to hold the two of you and hope his muscles flexed with his body movements
• one of them stared at you in pure envy, not many women would have the lucky you did when you found him, but it didn't mean she had the right to lust after your husband like that, but she couldn't believe that in addition to being an incredible man he was also a great dad
"ugh, I wanna have his babies"
"I did!"
• you smirked at her having heard what she said about your husband and finding it comic to see her so flustered and embarrassed after being caught red handed, you shrugged and smiled
"yeah, he is that good, but it's kinda rude to lust after married men like that"
• you winked at her and took Sammy's hand, walking towards the truck as even Joel stared at you in shock and amusement
• he really liked your feisty answer, and since you were so proud of having his baby, he was thinking of putting another one inside of you that night 💘

Francis Kinloch's Obituary
"It has become my duty publicly to record the irreparable loss of an inestimable parent. Francis Kinloch was born in the year 1756, and in Charleston, the Capital, at that time, of South Carolina. At the early age of nine he embarked for England, where, under the care and patronage of the excellent Mr. Boone, he was placed at Eton School, and in that splendid institution of a noble country laid the foundation of solid, useful and brilliant acquirements. Arrived at the age of manhood, he crossed over to the continent, and during the residence of a few years at Geneva, was honored with the esteem and kindness of Müller, of Prevost, and of Bonnet. About this period the clouds of [dissension] between the mother country and the colonies began to overspread the political firmament, and the time had come at which every one interested in the cause of America was called upon to decide, and if he valued his character, to decide promptly. My father did not hesitate one moment. Honored with the friendship and esteem of Lord North (whose son he had the [happiness] of rescuing from a watery grave, and who amidst all his political sins was a man of singularly amiable character) he might have remained in England, and with talents and acquirements like his, wealth and power lay before him. He did not, however, hesitate -- Columbia called upon her sons to rally around the sacred banner, and the call promptly obeyed by many a noble spirit. My father, among others, obeyed the call without asking any omen but his country's cause; drew his sword and offered it to the [gallant] Moultrie, by whom it was gladly accepted; and at the attack on the Savannah lines, as well as on other occasions, he cheerfully sealed with his blood his devotion to the welfare and honor of America. The contest over, he was honored with the political confidence of his fellow-citizens, and though not blest with a talent for public eloquence, took an active part in the councils of the nation, and afterwards in those of his native State. Retiring soon after to the peaceful and delightful scenes of rural quiet, he passed his time in teaching the young idea how to shoot, and in imparting, as far as in him laid, happiness and comfort to all around him -- and when forced by circumstances of a painful nature to depart from such scenes, gave up without a sigh the contemplation of that [splendid] foliage and of those beautiful plantations, which he had nourished up with so much pride and pleasure, of which the melancholy cypress alone [has] followed to the tomb its venerable master. My father died in this city -- sustained in his last moments by the best medical skill that Charleston could afford, and soothed and comforted by all the attention that filial piety could offer. He has [descended honored] and wept into the unconscious earth, and has died worthy [of] the regret of all good men -- of none more so than of Frederick Kinloch."
The obituary was written by Francis's son Frederick Kinloch and published in the the Charleston Courier on February 13, 1826. I transcribed the obituary from a typed copy in the collection "Kinloch family history and genealogy research files" in the South Carolina Historical Society archives. Minor grammatical/spelling corrections are indicated by brackets.
I do find it interesting that Frederick repeatedly emphasized that his father did not hesitate to take up arms and fight for American independence. Based on Francis's actual actions and writings around 1776-1778, we know that this could not be further from the truth. Francis was a professed loyalist at the start of the American Revolutionary War and had monarchical leanings throughout his life. He repeatedly tried to become employed in the English civil service before eventually returning to America in 1778 due to a lack of prospects in England, the repeated exhortations of his patriot mother, and a need to settle his estate and prevent it from being additionally taxed/amerced. So why did Frederick write about his father in such a positive light? Did Francis gloss over his loyalist past when telling his children about his involvement in the revolution, leading them to believe he was an ardent patriot from the start? I wouldn't put it past Kinloch to claim that he was on the side of the victors from the outset of the war. Or was Frederick aware of his father's less-than-fervent support of the revolution? Did Frederick knowingly write a false history in order to protect the reputation of his father and his family? The obituary does acknowledge and refute the idea that Francis hesitated to join the war, which could mean that Francis's initial wavering was a well-known part of his legacy (and possibly a sore point).
It should be noted that there are a couple other inaccuracies in regards to years/ages. While several sources in the "Kinloch family history and genealogy files" suggest a birth year of 1756 or note an uncertainty around the birth year (1755 or 1756), my understanding is that Francis was born in 1755. In the "Kinloch family history and genealogy files," there is a copy of a letter from Anne Kinloch to Francis dated March 10, 1776 in which Anne writes, "Give me leave my dearest much loved Francy to congratulate you on your entrance into your 21st year." This would place Francis's birth year as 1755. Additionally, Francis went to Europe in 1768 at the age of 13 (not 9).
Additionally, I have noticed that some sources give Francis's death date as February 8, 1826 while others give it as February 13, 1826. I think this confusion likely arose from the date of publication of the above obituary. The obituary was published on February 13, 1826, but it is unlikely that the obituary was published on the same day that Francis died. There are other notes in the "Kinloch family history and genealogy files" that also give credence to the February 8th death date. A note at the bottom of the obituary copy reads, "See paper of Thursday Feb. 9th for invitation to his funeral at the residence of his daughter Mrs Keating Lewis Simons' on Orange St." The invitation in the paper (Charleston Courier, February 9, 1826) was as follows:
The Friends and Acquaintances of the late FRANCIS KINLOCH, Esq. are invited to attend his Funeral This Day, at 11 o'clock, at the house of his Daughter, Mrs. Keating Lewis Simons, in Orange-street, without further invitation.
Mrs. Keating Lewis Simons was Anne Cleland Kinloch, Francis's first daughter with his second wife Martha Rutledge. Another source in the "Kinloch family history and genealogy files" collection states, "Mr. Kinloch died in Charleston Feb. 8, 1826, aged 69 years and eleven months. And his funeral was next day, from the house of his daughter, Mrs. Keating Lewis Simons, in George Street. He was buried in St. Michael's church yard (in the Rutledge lot near the Meeting Street wall)." Based on these various sources, I believe the February 8, 1826 death date to be the correct one.
On a lighter note, I do find it hilarious that Frederick essentially called out his father as a bad public speaker ("though not blest with a talent for public eloquence").

THE OVERHAUL QUIRK.
in essence, it’s destruction and restoration, but it’s not that simple. it would be easy to say “overhaul just changes the cells”, however, it doesn’t quirk work like that. it’s stored in the hands (and the feet, though this is unknown to kai), and can work if any part of his hand comes into contact with an object. note: this headcanon is directly tied to @necrotises, as this overhaul is the origin of their decay.
more under the cut. btw, this can be reblogged and be used for reference by rp partners only.
disassembly: the quirk itself has the ability to manipulate potential energy stored within an object, living or not, transforming it into heat or a kinetic energy at a rapid pace. in the case of overhaul, this transformation happens so rapidly that it must be pushed out with great force, resembling an explosion.
reassembly: it’s a bit more complicated than “overhaul puts the disassembled material back together”. rather, the quirk can pull back affected material, living or not, and reform it into kai’s image.
limitations.
precision: overhaul is not specific enough to splice down to atoms. he can get somewhat specific, but not specific enough to completely change the atomic makeup of an object. the object will always have qualities of its original form. that said, chisaki will do your transgender operations! (its reparations for accidentally misgendering magne. sorry mag. his bad.) he did his own top surgery, and opted to leave almost fishbone looking scars.
timeframe: reassembly can only occur for up to 15 minutes after disassembly. otherwise the ability to pull back the affected material is altered. were he to try reassemble after that time period, the object would need to be disassembled and reassembled once more.
two-halves: disassembly is possible without reassembly, but not the reverse. if chisaki is not intending to reassemble, the energy must be released. as we see in magne, compress, and that one hassaikai babysitter, we see the “explosion” mentioned earlier. blood is splattered everywhere, and a mess is made. this is inevitable. were he to do this to another object, it would react similarly.
specifics.
restoration: kai can decide how much of a person is reassembled, but this takes concentration to adjust to an imperfect level. the quirk naturally seeks to reassemble to a near-perfect level. it’s likely that if an ally is ressembled, they will find all cavities and minor injuries completely healed. this may also happen if he’s in a rush, or looking to display his power.
fusions: quick note here, kai can use overhaul through someone else’s hands, but only if they are fused to his body. there’s no magic possessing or anything. he must have the hands fused to his body in order for it to work. back to the main point. kai can fuse any two objects together, including himself, though it is not necessary.
fusing himself: kai will always remain the dominant consciousness if he’s fusing with another human. the other will be in a dream-like state, and likely will have blurry memories of the events once split. additionally, he can use the quirks of others once fused, as we see with nemoto.
fusing others: whichever will be the dominant consciousness is a gamble. he can’t decide that; it’ll be something of a battle between the minds being fused. and because of that, fusing two humans is a risk. chisaki can fuse more than two beings together, but the consciousness situation becomes more tricky after that, so he prefers to only fuse two, or fuse with himself.
stability: overhaul is an unstable quirk. anything may accidentally be overhauled when the gloves are off. should chisaki experience heightened emotional stress or external stimuli, he has little control over what gets overhauled. he has no issues immediately overhauling whatever puts him under such intense stress, so be mindful of staying in his good graces. additionally, many pillows and bedsheets have been overhauled during times of intimacy and ecstasy. the quirk itself was more unstable when he was younger, which the gloves helped. on top of this, he trained to keep himself calm in most situations, but it’s still a gamble when the gloves metaphorically (and physically) come off.
experience.
disassembling: being disassembled, though it seems like the most painful part, is actually the calm before the storm. it’s quick, and not the worst pain anyone is likely to feel. its uncomfortable, of course, as any manipulation of energy in the body would be. there is a warmth as the body part “explodes”, but as mentioned above, it’s so incredibly quick. the victim might not even know they were disassembled.
reassembling: this is where all the pain that should've been experienced in the disassembling stage catches up to the victim. as nerves are rebuilt, the pain from the disassembling is finally felt, leaving the victim in genuine agony, even for those with high pain tolerances.
those being reassembled can expect to experience:
mind-altering pain. the inability to speak or stand. they may also experience temporary amnesia.
extreme psychological distress. possible delusions/hallucinations from the pain.
physical symptoms. nausea, vomiting, heart palpitations, sweating, muscle spasms, and more.
chronic symptoms will include:
common ptsd symptoms. depression, anxiety, paranoia, nightmares, flashbacks.
phantom pains, despite the body being restored.
upgrades.
atom-splicing: were overhaul to upgrade this quirk, he would likely be able to splice things down to the atom . this would allow him to split quirks from owners, change the entire makeup of something, and so on.
contact: another potential upgrade would be the ability to overhaul something from not just his hands nor feet. rather, his arm or leg could brush against something and change it.
overhaul and chisaki.
the quirk takes little from him. while some quirks come at the cost of stamina or concentration, overhaul doesn’t ask much from kai. he doesn’t need to know the makeup of something to restore it, nor does it take time for him to overhaul an object or person. the process happens in seconds. he attends medical school in order to get a better understanding of anatomy for his ultimate goal, though this knowledge helps him adjust the level of reassembly.
it has little psychological effect on him, and the only thing he “feels” when overhauling is moderate heat in his hands from the energy transfer. he does experience the same pain as a victim would when he overhauls himself. he trained to handle the pain and work through it quickly, but he still remarks it as unpleasant.
conclusion.
overhaul is an incredibly powerful quirk that certainly should’ve earned more than a “b-rank” in ultra analysis. it’s ultimately unstable, though chisaki has trained for the amount of control he has currently. it has many different applications, though the symptoms and side effects of being overhauled are intense.
#META.#hiiii.#overhaul is so op and one of the coolest quirks#i had to talk about#also isa was a massive help on this meta creation#and yeah let him to your gender affirming surgeries :)#its quick :) dw about the emotional issues after :)#writing soon! getting more comfy here! rahh!

Okay so I was thinking someone should do something adjacent to this band au by @emilywaters but with Rembrandt as the lighting director but i fear that i may be the only person capable of this considering you know. Thats actually my job. But i have too many wips so you're getting this au in post form. Everything I changed from the original post is due to me writing out this entire post before I successfully tracked it down so like it's not me disagreeing I simply forgor.
I'm not sure what like level of fame they were supposed to be in the original but i need them to be doing stadium shows purely for Rembrandt's sake okay she deserves it theyre touring with an ma3 just believe me.
I think Cleon was originally their lead singer but she had to step down for. Reasons. Idk. So the Warriors are hard up bc their producer is on their ass about getting demos recorded for their next album but none of them really feel good about replacing Cleon.
Mercy is a mistreated burnt out pop idol who's just kind of getting listless at this point because she's basically just a prop for a brand and she can't even give a fuck about her music anymore. She meets Swan at a party and they hit it off and get blackout drunk and Swan wakes up the next day with a recording on her phone of Mercy doing a demo of one of the songs she wrote. She takes it in to their producer like here fine theres a demo are you happy and shes like??? Hello???? This is incredible??? Who is this singer??? And Swan is like hahaha. About that.
The producer reaches out to Mercy's management and theyre like um absolutely not she does not want to join your band she's a solo act but then Mercy gets Swan's number somehow and is like i DO wanna join your band actually but im stuck in this goddamned contract. So then its about them getting their record label to go up against Mercy's and get her out of her contract so she can be their new lead singer.
And also more importantly (to me) is the subplot about the like relatively young and inexperienced lighting girl from their home venue who Cleon insisted on hiring for their first tour and who just kind of stuck around and became part of the group. They tour with a disproportionately nice rig bc Rembrandt is a fucking nerd and none of them can resist her puppy dog eyes about getting shiny new toys. And like yeah she's kind of quiet and doesn't talk much in a group but she can hold her own against the fucking overhires giving her shit at whatever venue and not taking her seriously and she gets stars in her eyes when Ajax asks her about programming so like needless to say Ajax is a little bit obsessed with her. Rembrandt's job is half ordering around men twice her size and age and half real-time computer programming live in front of an audience. Ajax never stood a chance. There are always fans trying to see Ajax after the show and Ajax is always in the booth while Rembrandt talks about the latest patch grand ma pushed out and how she hates everything about it and everyone at that company is trying to ruin her life (she will have adapted and forgotten about this in two days until the next patch which alters her workflow .00001% upon which time she will again believe her career is over and she needs to call them to revert the console)
I think probably their relationship is more of a flashback moment bc obviously The Warriors can't be touring while they're looking for a new singer but I think when they're not on tour Rembrandt lives in Portland and does like weird indie performance art shit and Ajax stays in LA with Swan and the others and the long distance is kind of killing them. Could Ajax stay with Rembrandt in Portland for a few months and fly back down when they're actually recording stuff? Absolutely. Does this idea terrify her existentially for reasons she can neither articulate nor overcome? Also absolutely. But on a more fun note Rembrandt drags Ajax to USITT with her every year which is actually kind of fun for Ajax because in addition to Rembrandt being so excited nobody there is impressed at all by her being famous but they ARE impressed that she knows how DMX works. So. Who's laughing now Swan. The flashcards worked.
#the getting blackout drunk and recording a demo plot point is from hit abc soap opera nashville but idc#its a beautiful concept and im here to share it with the people#almost put the whole post in the post but i couldnt help myself so the sequel to the post in the tags is i think this au is kind of also#about the complexity of names and stage personas#like cowgirl and cochise and cleon who are like yeah these are our stage names#vs swan who is like yeah swan is my stage name but i forgot who i am underneath the stage persona so my old name sounds wrong now#and mercy who feels like the whole idea of who she is has been totally taken out of her hands for her whole adult life#and then ajax who has been trying and failing for years to get journalists to understand that ajax ISNT her stage name thats just her NAME#like yeah shes a performer but shes always ajax shes always been ajax#and rembrandt who like Gets It in a way even the other Warriors don't really get it#anyways. thank you guys for coming to my ted talk.#this is a double ted talk night. im up past my bedtime thats how ted talk it is#i was procrastinating folding my laundry okay. you know how it is.#warriors musical

Monster Spotlight: Nirento
CR 4/6
Neutral Large/Huge Plant
Isles of the Shackles, pg. 55
First of all, I'd like to apologize for the quality of the image; I took care of the crispiness I could easily scrape off, but a lot of PDFs have images that refuse to come out cleanly. There's still some stray pixels here and there, sorry!
You may wonder why and how this thing can be 4/6ths of a challenge rating as well as Large and Huge at the same time, but this is because this article is actually about two monsters: the CR 4 Nirento, and the CR 6 Elder Nirento, the latter growing to immense size and having such powerful roots that they can also join in the feeding frenzy from below. For the most part, this article will be focusing on the regular Nirento, as the Elder is mostly the same (except bigger numbers, of course), but it wouldn't feel like a complete article without mentioning the Elder Nirento's various advantages, so those will be sprinkled here and there.
Nirento are carnivorous plants that make their homes on forests and plains near shorelines, presumably spreading via carnivorous coconuts (as in the coconuts of carnivores, not that the coconuts themselves are carnivorous) due to their resemblance to the common palm tree, though this is mere extrapolation on my part, as their lore article in Isles of the Shackles makes no mention of their seeds. Unlike most predatory plants on Golarion, Nirento are perfectly happy eating birds, small mammals, and whatever washes ashore, ripping apart prey with a pair of powerful, thorny vines before cramming the gore into shallow graves around their roots, but they won't turn up their wooden noses at the prospect of something more substantial.
Though they have a substantially threatening reach (15ft, combined with 10ft), Nirento move at a glacial 10ft/round, often requiring multiple rounds to get into position if prey doesn't blunder into it first. However, they have no ranks in Stealth AND are often surrounded by bloodstained soil and suspicious mounds of dirt, so whoever is blundering is also going to have to be rolling negative Perception to miss anything wrong. Unfortunately, Nirento have a way around this impediment and tricking prey, and it doesn't involve the ability to produce psychotropic spores or mimic sounds like some other predatory plants. No, Nirento go for a less obvious route for masking the threat they pose: freestyle dance.
The Hypnotic Display of the Nirento involves the tree bending its trunk, rustling its leaves, and swinging its vines around in a way that must look absolutely ridiculous, but endearingly so. This goofy dance is so entrancing that any creature that sees it from closer than 60ft must make a DC 17 Will save or be so amused by the Plant's dance that they can't bring themselves to take any form of hostile action against it for 1d6 minutes. This goes beyond mere amusement, as the Hypnotic Display is a mind-affecting compulsion effect that more or less shuts off the fight-or-flight response entirely, so even being beaten to a pulp doesn't instantly break the effect.
Any creature that witnesses a Nirento attacking their ally can make the save again, and any creature being directly attacked by the tree gets a +4 to their save to shake off the compulsion, meaning there's a chance a victim may die--or watch their allies die--before they realize anything is wrong! Even if they do succeed, they're now in the tree's massive threat radius and are likely down by several party members, either because they're still hypnotized or have been knocked unconscious. There's no more flight, it's time for fight!
Once combat begins, Nirento are more dangerous than their goofy appearance and silly dance may suggest. As mentioned, they have two thorny vine attack dealing 1d6+4 damage each, and each vine not only makes a free trip attempt against whatever they hit, but tries to Grab them as well. Once in the carnivorous coconut tree's grasp, victims are Constricted for an additional 1d6+4 damage a round, allowing Nirento to swiftly crush HP from their victims. Given their reach, it's unlikely the party will be able to escape from their potential Full-Attack, and even if they DO, it's got Combat Reflexes to punish the attempt. The Full-Attack is even worse when encountering Elder Nirento, as they have four vine attacks for 1d8+5 damage each!
And yes, if someone stands up from being prone, it can use Combat Reflexes to slap them for it before immediately trying to trip them again. It makes these trees very hard to escape once you're in melee with them.
Thankfully, they're not especially difficult to be rid of. They have a decent-but-not-special 17 AC and all the defenses conferred by the Plant creature typing (which they need, given they have +0 to Will), but what might catch people off-guard is that their soft, spongy bark is difficult to bludgeon or pierce, granting them DR 5/Slashing. Elder Nirento go even further, becoming fully immune to bludgeoning damage, much to the frustration of Monks, many Clerics, and Greatclub Enjoyers. They're also immune to Sonic damage because of their loose interiors, but this is unlikely to matter at low levels.
Elder Nirento also have an additional attack option: Uproot. This blast of sharpened roots targets up to four creatures within 10ft of it and requires the tree to use its full round, but deals 1d8+5 damage to anything that fails a DC 17 Reflex save, AND it can make a free trip attempt against any creature damaged by the ability. While this may sound worse than it just doing a Full-Attack, consider that it offers the plant the ability to bypass AC entirely and hit Reflex instead, and that success on the save only halves the damage instead of negating it, so it still gets to try and trip everyone it targets unless they have some DR in place! And once their AC is lowered from being knocked on their ass, it can whip and crush them to pieces.
Nirento are deceptively nasty for their CR, and Elders even moreso, but thankfully the greataxe-wielding Barbarian in the party who's been itching for an excuse to yell TIMBEEEER all campaign can make quick work of them... provided, of course, they can even stand up. And provided they aren't drunkenly giggling to its dance.
You can read more about them here, and their Elder variant here.
