Dude, I swear. This Slay the Princess game has tainted my view on literally everything.

So, I recently got back into Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion (Highly recommend, btw. The HD renovation is getting a massive graphics update in the fall), and I decided to restart by playing through the story mode (Basically, the main game where you run through 1000 rooms getting chased by monsters and cardboard and whatnot).

Along the way, you can read these notes written by people who entered the mansion and didn't make it. The first collection of notes is by a guy who can only describe things as "romantic":

I am getting back into HS because of you! I actually have been thinking about it for a bit... Something I've been feeling recently though, is the idea that my interpretations, my works, my views of these characters could not reasonably sit next to others', whose are all more nuanced, more in-depth and researched... but I really enjoy your takes, and I'm gradually understanding tjat even if I'm not a true Halwarrior, or a Jake Jingler, I can still make meaningful works with these characters even if I don't know Every detail of them or nuanced perspective on them. I suppose I feel like my output in the fandom, in relation to canon, has been lackluster! It's been almost 10 years since I got into Homestuck, and even now I blank on vital stuff... but I really appreciate your takes and art and creations, because it makes me feel more at ease and intrigued by things I don't fully comprehend (like how I've read the comic 5 times and still feel like a bucket of mud after reading the dialogue boxes more than 2 sentences LOL), rather than hesitant to create. I hope this all makes sense, it's kinda like I'm typing whatever comes to mind right now. But all in all, thank you. I've had my fair share of rough times in this fandom, but I love it dearly. And even though we don't know each other, I'm glad there is somebody like you out there. Stay strong, and have a wonderful new year.

hi thank you for taking the time to write this all out it makes me really happy to hear that you're getting back into hs :)!! i definitely know what you are feeling and often feel the same way, i see a lot of people who have been around the scene much longer than me who've done a lot of thinking & writing about the story who have much more interesting & well thought-out things to say compared to me. but i think of the two cakes theory and remember that we all have something unique to contribute! i don't really think there's such thing as a "lackluster" contribution to fandom because there's no requirement to contribute to fandom at all. even if you wanted to just sit back and see what others do, or not even engage at all, there's nothing wrong with that. this is not a class that we are trying to get a good grade in, it's a community of fans that we all engage with because it's supposed to be fun and enjoyable. i share my thoughts because i would explode if i didn't get them out and i like to draw little things because it's my way of expressing my love of this comic. even if i may disagree with people from time to time (frankly, i think my new year's resolution should be to be less of a hater), i still like to hear other people's perspectives and interpretations, and what really makes the hs fandom stand out to me is the community i'm part of where we can exchange our thoughts and ideas

to say that kaiser is a bad driver would be a severe understatement.

he is the worst driver to ever grace the earth, the planet, the whole universe. you don’t know how he got his license, and you don’t want to know how he got it, either.

all you know is you want to get off this death trap he calls his car as soon as possible. (preferably alive.)

“mihya.” you breathe out, shrinking into the passenger seat, closing your eyes, “maybe i should drive.”

he clicks his tongue, “i’m doing fine, don’t worry.”

(you’re not worried, you’re afraid.)

your eyes snap open. you turn your head to look at him, a look of concerned disbelief written all over your face.

he sighs, turning to look at you, “listen, we’ll get to the supermarket fine, okay?”

“look at the road, dumbass!” you cry, turning your head to the front, rubbing your eyes in frustration as another car loudly honks as kaiser swerves to the side.

you suppress the urge to wrangle him by the neck when he clicks his tongue in annoyance at the other car.

“some people really have no respect for other drivers,” he complains, his voice slightly angry as he frowns.

“yeah.” you pointedly glare at him. “and some people really suck at driving to the point they shouldn’t be allowed to even have a car.”

he nods in agreement at your words, his eyes trained on the road. (his little nod makes you want to crash his head against the steering wheel to knock him out so you can drive instead.)

“mihya.”

he hums, his head turning slightly to look at you before he rapidly turns back to look at the road in case you get mad at him for not paying attention to it.

“you should just let me drive.” you say, your words stern as you stare at him.

he pauses for a second, the corners of his lips quirking up, “i don’t think so.”

(you so desperately want to push him off the car.)

you look at him, an unamused expression on your face. “i hate you.”

“don’t make me swerve the car off the road.” he smiles, his voice teasing. he pauses for a second before he softly hums, “besides i don’t get to drive very often, i want to practice.”

you wish you could understand why he wants to practice when he’s got a manager that drives him literally anywhere he wants. (besides, he doesn’t even like driving, even when it’s just the two of you.)

“that’s dumb.” you hum, frowning as you lean your head against the window.

“your face is dumb.” he chuckles, making you frown as you look at him from the corner of your eye, disgust evident in your face as you see his cheeky smile. (he’s such a child sometimes, you think. it’s kind of cute. but you won’t tell him that.)

silence settles between the two of you for a few moments before you softly hum. “how much longer til we get to the supermarket?”

he glances at his phone, squinting at the gps. (you swear he should wear his glasses when he drives, maybe that’d make him miraculously better.) “about three minutes.”

you softly hum again in acknowledgment before a small, teasing smile grows on your lips. “took long enough.”

kaiser tsks, biting back a smile as he quickly glances at you. “don’t complain, you told me to drive slow.”

(you’re glad you did, by the way. still, you’d tell him to slow down even more since he’s still zooming through the road. but you don’t want to push your luck.)

“yeah, yeah.” you softly laugh. “whatever.”

you glance at the gps then at through the window as you smile, your body finally relaxing in relief as kaiser takes a right, headed for the parking lot.

“i hope you rate this drive as five stars.” he says, unbuckling your seat belt before unbuckling his.

“i dunno,” you chuckle, getting out of the car at the same time he does. “you’re a too much of a chatty driver for my taste.”

he sticks his tongue out at you, rolling his eyes. you nudge his arm as you walk over to him, smiling as you walk to the entrance of the supermarket.

kaiser grabs your hand, lacing his fingers through yours. “c’mon, the chattier the driver the better the drive.”

you hum in disagreement, shrugging as you look at him. “to each their own.”

“i made the drive even more entertaining.” he proudly smiles, squeezing your hand. “in fact, i wouldn’t mind driving on the way back.”

your face pales, your body tending up for a split second before you look at him, a strained smile on your lips. “that’s kind of you to offer.”

he shrugs, smiling as if you’d just stroked his ego. “of course-”

“i’m driving on the way back, though.”

Right so as someone who’s had a cat special interest for practically my whole life, I had to find cat breeds that match the designs, lest I be too unrealistic (ignoring the very unnatural mouth/paw colors, I need whimsy in my life one way or another)

Dakota is a ginger American bobtail, Vynce/veer is a classic American shorthair brown tabby, will/whisper is a dark grey domestic longhair with slight vitiligo, and Ashe is a silver tabby longhair with white spotting :))

Slight spoilers for arc 2 of wc, since I imagine this is at the lake territory and vynce is from the tribe of rushing water

I only changed Vyncent and william’s names to fit their respective origins, since Dakota and Ashe are both from a lakeside town and they’re both already pretty good cat names

William was (is?) a shadowclan apprentice named whisperpaw, naturally, though they just call him whisper or wisp*

Vyncent is named Wolf who veers toward nest, though they just call him veer*
