KNOCKOUTS: The Princess of Sylph (2022 - ?)
The Princess of Sylph (or, Sylph no Hanahime) is an ongoing fantasy series by Kamejiro about a miserable princess and a nun resolved to take care of her.
In the imperial capital of Ventfleur, the newly enthroned Princess Natalia is approached by the inscrutable and suspect Sister Sara... The fantasy yuri adventure of a lonesome princess and meddlesome nun! - MAL
No official ENG; JP available on Comic Walker, and an early version of the series was posted to Pixiv & Twitter.
Serialisation was cancelled due to poor volume sales, but it's being continued on Pixiv Fanbox! AFAIK the author plans to catch up to where the Pixiv/Twitter version got to and then decide if it's worth it, so please buy the volumes & subscribe to their fanbox if you can!
CWs under the cut. General severity rating: moderate.
suggestive scenes <- no graphic sexual content atm (obligatory note that it's ongoing and this may change) but scenes with sexual implication.
violence <- non-graphic bloody injury and less frequently, internal bleeding (coughing blood up, bleeding from the eyes), and one instance of blood drinking. the twitter version, however, has more graphic violence, including on screen loss of limbs, so it's likely that the serialised version will also become more graphic.
disordered eating <- the princess goes without food for extended periods of time. this is significant in the first few chapters and she suffers the ill effects, but her condition and eating habits improve as the series progresses. aside from the odd flashback to her being unwell, this isn't heavily dwelled on past the beginning.
neglect? <- natalia's retainers and underlings at large ignore her condition
animal death <- ch2, a horse is killed by a wolf. you don't see the injury in detail and it's not a known pet or anything. the offending wolf is also killed, but that's not even bloody.
homophobia <- ch13, mentioned that women can't be together in a side character's country.
outing(??????) <- a minor antagonist finds out about the central relationship and spreads word of it, but it and the backlash is more about the difference in status than gender.
grief <- protagonist lost all of her immediate family, and her pain over that is a central character trait.
slutshaming <- someone gets called a whore in ch14.
sexual assault <- a main character is sexually assaulted by a tentacle-like monster in ch7. the most distressing part is the first 5-6 pages, if you need to skip through. incident mentioned a few times again in ch8, and the character that did this pops up every now and again after that and doesn't really get any reckoning.
vomiting <- in ch7, not shown on page aside from sfx.
orientalism? <- one of the side characters is pretty exotified - iirc someone even calls her exotic at one point? it's not totally egregious (there is much worse orientalism out there in manga) but worth a heads up.
(Heads up: I haven't read past what's on Dynasty, so there may be Fanbox content past that that is not warned for. I'm subscribed but I haven't sat down to read it yet oop.)
#knockouts#princess of sylph#by: kamejiro#add: disability#<- currently only in the twitter/pixiv version i think#add: poc#<- ...but not uncomplicatedly. note the orientalism warning.

i love how kaz's disability is actually described as affecting him day to day and not just there so he can use a prop in a cool way. like the recurring descriptions of how much his leg is hurting him, and how he (somewhat) struggles, even if he hides it well, to do things like walk up stairs. idk i just appreciate how leigh could have just said "kaz has a disability and needs a cane" and left it at that and just had him use his cane as a cool weapon but didn't. there are actual descriptions about his leg affecting him, and the audience is reminded of it frequently when we read from his pov, because it's something he has to deal with very frequently!! even with his mental disability too—we're reminded of it very frequently because it's a part of him and not just something he has for the excuse of giving his character gloves and being edgy. i digress. but i really do appreciate how disabilities through kaz's character aren't overly romanticized and used as a cheap excuse to add props to him.
#a lot of this is due i think to the fact that leigh bardugo herself is physically disabled#not to glaze but#i appreciate it bro!!#it's necessary and adds a lot of depth#i just be thinking yk#kaz brekker#six of crows#six of crows fandom#six

here's to all the little sacrifices we have to make as disabled people.
here's to skipping a friend's party because you were in too much pain, or because you had no energy.
here's to dropping out of clubs because they became too much for you.
here's to all the times we've said "no it's okay, you guys go ahead, i'll hang back here."
here's to all the things we've held ourselves back from just in case they hurt us.
here's to moving seats in class away from your friends because your back was getting a draft and the cold hurts you.
here's to us. here's to letting ourselves heal. here's to being cautious, being safe.
here's to the things we can do. the things we're allowed to do. here's to enjoying those things, enjoying our lives.
here's to making the most of being us.

Geniuenly like. So many people claim support disability. But then say something completely untrue
Y’all support autism? So what about when the person has intellectual disability or need help walk talk eat bath use bathroom? Does your support end when you see someone with higher needs?? Someone who actually genuinely won’t survive without support from others n that support is sometimes having other people do everything for them.
Y’all support depression? What about when the person can’t bring themself to get out of bed for days on end? What about when that person goes days weeks months without cleaning self because can’t get up even though need to?
Yall support schizo-spec disorders & psychosis? What about what the person get violent because of their delusions n hallucinations? The ones know are fake but still can’t help but believe in? The ones genuinely believe in their delusions/ hallucinations? What about the ones don’t don’t get violent to self n other because of the disorder? Those that just sit scared about the hallucinations n delusions. The ones that won’t leave their room/ house out of fear of their delusions/ hallucinations?
Y’all support those with physical disabilities? What about the housebound bedbound ones? The ones need gait trainers walkers wheelchairs? What about the ones who full time users? Or the ones that need power chairs to independently move around? What about the ones crying screaming throwing up from their pain?
What about the disabled that always have a horrible attitude because tired of the disrespect? Tired of having to explain everything about them to everyone even if personal? Tired being told get over it n just educate others?
The disabled ones tired telling people not use certain terms. Tired of being spoken over n for without being thought about or asked. Tired of hearing their communication isn’t valid for ‘xyz’
Y’all support but act very picky about who deserves support and who’s not worthy of it. It’s not support if you pickin n choosing

When I say "I can't do that" what I'm not saying is:
I don't feel interested in doing that
I don't care enough to
I'm too good to be doing that
I don't think you deserve that of me
I'm not in the mood to do that
Not now, I'll do it later
Maybe
If that's what I meant, that's what I would say
What I am saying is:
It will negatively affect me in ways I can't afford
I simply can't physically fucking do that
I can't risk the potentially severe consequences I may experience if I overestimate my ability to do that
And if I explain that I am unable to do that, it is not an invitation to:
Tell me how much my disability hurts your feelings
Ask if I'm sure
Interrogate me because you believe yourself to be the judge of how unwell is unwell enough
Put words in my mouth ("why don't you care?")
Tell me how easy it would be
Remind me of how many other things I've been unable to do. I keep the score more than you do
Accuse me of exaggerating or faking to avoid doing it
Ask me again shortly
Make assumptions about additional explanations. (I must be mad at you, I must not care about this)
Offer compensation in return ("I can pay you" "we can do something you want to do after" "I'll get you something you like")
Ask what it would take for me to suddenly be capable of doing it
Tell me how you do things you have to do when when you're tired and then you can just rest and recover. I am not like you
Remind me of a time I was able to do that. Either I had more spoons or was less severely disabled if at all.
Say that if I was well enough to do X today, I should be able to do this as well. Energy doesn't work that way. Are you capable of running 8 miles right this minute just because you were okay to work a 10 hour shift today? That's what I thought
Suggest simply doing it a certain way ("take your time", "do it sitting down", "we can stop and take breaks", "just take your painkillers", etc)
But it is an invitation to:
Leave me the fuck alone about it 💕

Self-reminders today:
Resting is an important part of creating and doing.
There is more to resting than just sleeping.
Resting means letting yourself be idle of body and idle of mind.
Resting replenishes mental and physical strengths.
There is nothing virtuous about resisting rest.
There is nothing virtuous about working without rest.
Idleness and rest are not wrong or lazy.
Allowing yourself to rest enhances your creativity and allows you to do better work.
There is nothing about resting that should make you feel guilty.
You need rest.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Immortal Days (2016 - ?)
NOTE: Listennnn I just binge read it over two days and wanted to recommend it somewhere. The main characters are men and most of the plot is about them, but the women in the larger cast are not only very well-realised (and also ridiculously hot), but the bulk of them are gay. Actually a crime how little attention this gets in western fanspaces with toxic yuri situations this crunchy. There's an on page lesbian wedding and that's like the least gay thing going on with the girlies here.
NOTE 2 - PLEASE; There's also a very androgynous approach to character design, and the female characters are well built, appropriately dressed, have big noses, thick necks, strong jaws, varying gender presentation, short hair.......... they're just as complicated and violent and unhinged and morally compromised as the guys..................... its a good series.
Immortal Days is an ongoing Korean webcomic by Heo Gin Gae about two mortal men banding together in a world where humans at large can't die.
Mankind has discovered the secret to immortality. As humans can no longer die, violence abounds. Living among the immortals is Myeol. Careful and conscientious, he’s a street-smart fighter who’s trained himself to survive. Why? Because he’s mortal; a mutant. Upon meeting Phill, a money-grubbing “Troubleshooter” short on morals, Myeol is thrown into a life full of guns, bombs and death cults. But Myeol and Phill have more in common than meets the eye… - AniList
Available on Lezhin in both English & Korean.
EDIT: Since a lot of the more sensitive content warnings are pretty arc-specific, I've got rid of the content warnings under the cut and instead made a document that goes through arc-by-arc. Still a WIP btw! Not totally up to date! Be warned!
Let's say general severity rating: significant, for the most part; the actual tone of the comic isn't all that bleak, so if you prep yourself for like, generalised Dark Themes™ and just dip if it hits your limit, it's not so bad.
#immortal days#specifically picking out the chapter cover w gay women on it lol#knockouts#it also has pretty decent race & body diversity and a surprising amount of disability rep. and a trans character!#its very good! just beware of The Horrors.#by: heo gin gae#op faveys#add: trans#add: poc#add: parents#add: disability#add: butchez <3#add: old woman yuri#<-.........do phillipa and collab count? idk. woefully small tag on here anyway.

How to be a better ally to people with mobility aids:
[Pt: how to be a better advocate for people with mobility aids: \end PT]
-Speak up when you see someone being left out of activities or conversation due to their ability
-Push in your chair when you stand up
-Sweep large or medium sized obstacles off of the walkway/sidewalk (twigs, branches, soda cans [maybe throw those away, though])
-Wait for members of your group who have to detour to use ramps or walk with them as they do
-Wait for a mobility aid user who is being left behind due to terrain or speed
-Help with opening heavy doors with broken/no automatic opening switches
And most of all, just treat us like people. We want to have conversations with you and be friends! I promise we don't bite.

people who add non-autogenerated subtitles to videos are the most attractive people on this planet and allowed to steal one (1) thing from my home. including a kiss
#if they’re competently done and timed well it can be open mouth#I love subtitles#i say ‘yippee!! yeehaw!’ and dance a little jig whenever I can watch a video with closed captioning on#NOT autogenerated subtitles though. proper ones#if you have a budget for a youtube video there is no reason to not add subtitles.#yes it’s time consuming but you can pay a professional to caption them. OR do it yourself#also if you deliberately turn off autogen captions and don’t supply a sufficient replacement then I get to steal something from your house#and it will not be a smooch. but it might be violent#auditory processing disorder#APD#disabilities#hoh#deaf#youtube#subtitles#shut up riley

Trudy refills Vincent’s cereal. He’s 2-3 years old and blind in one eye. He doesn’t need more cereal, he just needs his bowl rotated so he can see the cereal that was left over on his blind side. Not that we necessarily know how Vincent communicates without speech, but she hardly gives him time to answer her question about more before she’s refilling the bowl anyways. This is her approach to parenting her boys in general.
There’s no interest in fixing their actual issues. Rather than help Vincent to see what he already has in front of him, she’d rather add more, inadvertently also adding more onto the side he can’t see. At some point, this would just add to the issue. Overcompensation into overwhelm. Bo is brought in for breakfast kicking and screaming and it’s sort of evident why Trudy puts all her love into Vincent to the point of it being suffocating and unhelpful. Sure it could be a simple case of favoritism, but with the aspect of overcompensation specifically, it seems that she wants to balance her guilt over failing to parent one of her sons by pouring more effort than necessary into Vincent. Rather than giving the extra attention to Bo, it’s refilling a non-empty bowl of cereal.
I don’t think that necessarily mean she loves Vincent more. She finds him easier to parent. Fill the bowl whether or not he needs it because that’s easier than unpacking where Bo’s massive emotional outbursts are coming from. It seems more like love-bombing than genuine kindness. He’s “being such a good boy today,” but the implied part is an unsaid comparison to Bo. As twins, and conjoined twins at that, they’re not independent of each other. Vincent’s behavior exists only to contrast Bo’s, from her perspective. “Fix” his needs, and she can fix them both. Hence, preferring just to duct tape Bo to a chair than help him any.
Then Vincent grows up to become her protege, starting in his childhood but lasting until even after Trudy’s death. Over thirty years have passed since they were toddlers in those high chairs, but Bo gives a hint about why Vince got that ‘special privilege’ to not be as physically abused. “She always said that your talent would make up for what God took away from you.” Only, God didn’t take anything. Victor Sinclair doing illegal, unqualified surgery on his babies is why Vincent lost half of his face. Trudy only uses God’s name and religion as a shield for her own guilt about how her boys turned out. But it’s more likely she included Vincent in the wax business because she again, was dumping affection onto him over and over as her strategy.
Otherwise there isn’t as much favoritism between the boys. In their childhood photos, they both play piano, both play pool and baseball, both get to sit at the table with their birthday cake (without highchairs or bindings) and they play on the floor together. It's not entirely divisive between them, though it’s still obvious from which brother she’s slapping across his face and which brother she’s love-bombing which she’d prefer to deal with. Just not which she actually cares for more. Vincent wasn’t somehow spared from abuse in a house like the Sinclair household.
Interestingly, when Bo tells the story of Trudy and Victor, he mentions that once the Doc died, they were alone. Except, there’s at least one version of a prop newspaper stating that Trudy created a wax memorial for Victor. So this is just a false version of events most likely. Sure it could be that a decision changed, but there’s also the fact that, in the guns and ammo store, there’s a sign that says “Trudy’s Town or Wax.” And Bo tells Vincent, “We almost finished what mama started.” She’s also much older than the Trudy we see in the family photos and articles (even with the amount of cigarettes that woman smoked.) Ambrose is confirmed to have been abandoned for a decade, but to be turned into wax, Trudy would’ve had to die sometime between the abandonment of Ambrose and the present. Else she would’ve been properly buried most likely. The plan to fill Ambrose was hers, it’s just Bo that suggests using real humans (according to his apology to Vincent, he takes credit for the idea anyhow.)
Which makes her boys at least in their mid twenties when she died. In an older version of the script, Bo had killed her and Victor, but knowing it would put them all in foster care, that doesn’t quite make sense unless they were older. So the order of events is, Doc dying, the sugar mill closing, Trudy planning to reimagine Ambrose, and then dying herself.
The reason that’s important is because it’s emblematic of just how much pressure she was putting on both of her boys. And that’s not love. With two mentally ill, abused sons, (maybe three, since Lord only knows how they treated Lester once he came along,) that’s just manipulation. Victor and Trudy aren’t cartoon super villains for being bad to their boys. But when you can’t even just rotate a bowl slightly for your half blind little one, it’s shallow. Trudy has her cigarettes right in the boys faces in the opening and in most of the photos. Smoking was in one study linked to about 1/3rd of conjoined pregnancies, and in a similar case of conjoinment to the boys, one of the twins had lost an eye and had a prosthetic, but with minimal scarring because of the surgery being done in an actual legal hospital. It’s not about God taking anything, or about which is a little monsted and which is a very good boy- it’s about Trudy and Victor both messing up from the very beginning and causing the boys losses, then refusing to take accountability for it. Or, in the symbolic sense, to just do the right thing and turn a damn bowl of cheerios towards your blind kid.
#analysis#house of wax 2005#how 2005#house of wax#vincent sinclair#bo sinclair#trudy sinclair#idk if this one will make sense to other people. but like. idk just refusing to accommodate your disabled child in the way they need#making adjustments but it’s still just to make you feel less guilty and not to help the kid#Trudy is like one of those Facebook autism mommies#and it reflects back in every parenting decision she makes not just the little things. shit adds up

A quick reminder that the bullet journal method was designed as a disability tool by a person with ADD. It's meant to be practical, and can be helpful especially to neurodivergent folks. Don't let the Instagram pictures or grind culture make you believe you cannot use it. The method will not work for everyone of course, but it is largely what you make of it.
