Julianna had on Luke’s Michigan jersey and was sitting by the class ready for the first home game of the season. Emma her best friends sat next to her wearing a Michigan jacket and beanie.

Luca was skating on the ice and he was looking at the stands trying to find his parents when he saw a face he knew. Luca quite literally tripped on the ice barely catching himself from falling, he was so distracted seeing Julianna he wasn’t even paying attention to skating.

Adam who was next to his brother gave him a weird look but shook it off.

Luke smiled seeing his sister and her best friend, he waved happily at her and Julianna smiled fondly and blew a kiss to her little brother.

Michigan won 4-3.

Julianna and Emma walked down the stands and to the outside of the locker room seeing other family members and significant others waiting outside.

Luca’s eyes widen seeing Julianna outside the locker room and realized she had to know someone on the team. Adam and Luca walked over to their parents hugging them tightly.

“Oh! Julia is here i want to introduce you to her!” Adam spotted Julianna and smiled towards him family wanting them to meet his tutor.

“Oh definitely.” Julia smiled wanting to meet the girl that Adam seems to care for.

Adam led them over to Julianna and Luca’s eyes widen dramatically as he realized that Julianna was Julia.

“Juli!” Adam smiled as he called out her name, Julianna’s head snapped over to Adam and she smiled softly and raised a slight eyebrow seeing Luca.

“Hello Adam.” Julianna smiled and warmly accepted his hug, “You must Mrs and Mr Fantilli.” Julianna smiled and held out her hand towards them.

“Just Julia and Giuliano please.” Julia smiled shaking her hand gently, “Adam has told us a lot about you.” Julia and Giuliano have heard a lot about his tutor, “Oh and this is our son-“

“Luca.” Julianna gently cut them off gaining three surprised looks that she didn’t see because she was looking at Luca giving him a small smile, “We have a class together.” Julianna looked back to Adam and his parents.

Luca blushed realizing she knew who he was.

“Annie!” Luke called out to his older sister jogging over to her.

Julianna’s face lite up even more and she was immediately wrapping her arms around Luke as he quickly hugged her. She swayed back and forth with her baby brother who is already taller than her.

She pulled back from the hug cupping his face gently and Luke happily leaning into her touch, “Good game Moosey.” She gave him a soft proud smile and Luke proudly smiled.

Luke looked over and saw Adam and Luca with their parents, “Adam, Luca.” Luke nodded to them both, He knew she was tutoring Adam.

Luca looked between the two and at first he thought maybe they were together but then he saw all of the resemblance between the two and quickly realized, “Are you guys related?” Luca questioned making Adam also turned to the two and look at the two curious.

“She’s my big sister.” Luke proudly told them all wrapping his arm around her shoulder, He narrowed his eyes at Luca seeing him look at his older sister.

Luca paled slighty and realized the girl he has been crushing on for the last month is both his little brother’s tutor and his teammates sister.

she wasn’t sure how she got here.

all she remembered was laying in bed in her new apartment, when her new roommate came barging in, asking (more like begging) her to go to a party being thrown at some random college kid’s house.

so here she stood, in the corner of a stranger’s kitchen, with a red solo cup in her right hand. she moved the cup around in circles, watching as the liquid swirled around inside. she was hesitant to take it from her roommate, jess, as she had no idea what the drink contained.

the whole house was packed with people all over the place.

she looked up from her cup as she heard laughter that began to get louder as the group seemed to get closer. in came a group of 6 guys who all look faded or drunk. it could be both, she didn’t know.

the group all stopped and gathered by the counter and island. she stood off to the side, making sure to move over a bit, a good distance between her and the guys. she watched as they all laughed at something one said. she was still wondering what the hell she was doing here. she had recently transferred and only knew one person, jess. to everyone else, she was a stranger.

she looked over into the crowd that had somehow gotten bigger since she last looked over, hoping to find jess. her eyes scanned the room, looking for a head full of jet black hair. she looked around for a minute and with no luck, she sighed and made her way into the crowd, on a search for jess.

“oh c’mon man! why not?” mark asked his friend, luke, who just shook his head, smiling. “it’s not that bad.”

mark, luke and a couple other guys from the team were in the kitchen at the senior house, as they were throwing a party to celebrate their win hours prior.

luke gave him a look before scoffing, “knowing you, whatever you have to say somehow always turns out to be horrible.” luke shook his head once more. “i’m not doing it. and by it, i mean whatever the fuck you’re betting me to do.”

mark turned towards nolan, “back me up here?”

“dude look, just hear him out. if you don’t like it then you don’t gotta do it. simple.” nolan told luke who seemed to think about the whole situation. he turned towards their captain who had his eyebrows raised as if asking “you in?” he looked around and everyone seemed to be waiting for an answer.

“fuck it,” he whispered to himself, “i’ll do it.” he announced and everyone began to cheer for the boy, mark going behind the 6’2 defenseman to shake his shoulders in excitement. “i’m trusting you with this.” luke pointed a finger at the man behind him.

mark raised his hands in defense, “no promises.”

“yeah, yeah, get on with it.”

mark grinned. “alright. luke i bet you a $100 that you can’t make any girl in here fall in love with you within six weeks.”

“that’s the bet?” rutger questioned and everyone turned towards him. “dude that’s literally so easy for him. lots of girls would be with him within seconds.” rutger explained. “i mean look at him. he’s too pretty to resist.” rutger cooed at luke in a baby voice as he grabbed his cheeks to squish them. luke swatted his hands away from his face. “at least make it a tad bit difficult.”

“and you’re right. which is why we” mark motioned between the group, “get to chose the girl. someone who won’t fall for his charm.” everyone seemed to like the idea except for luke who’s eyes widened in annoyance. “now let’s see..”

they spent the next 5 minutes walking around the house, agreeing or disagreeing whether a girl nearby what the right one or not.

they made their way to the kitchen once again, no luck in finding the one.

“aww, is lukey getting annoyed?” dylan teased as he noticed the scowl luke had on his face. the group burst into laughter as they seemed to notice as well. “don’t worry, you’ll find the one,” dylan reassured the boy, “hopefully.”

luke turned towards to mark, “if you guys can’t find a girl in the next 2 minutes, i swear to god-”

everyone looked towards where adam had pointed. there standing was a girl who was a couple inches shorter than most of them, confusion adoring her features. they watched as she looked around, as if she were trying to find someone. she seemed lost and uncomfortable.

“adam, you’ve got a great eye on and off the ice.” mark praised the boy who just shrugged in response. “what do ya guys think?” mark asked the group who all murmured in agreement. “then it’s settled. looks like we’ve found our girl. well luke’s girl at least. whatcha think man?”

luke couldn’t hear him. he was staring. he had been ever since the moment adam pointed her out. you know those moments in romance movies where everybody and everything just seems to slow down as if the most beautiful thing had walked in, deciding to grace the room with their presence and the character cant help but feel something? yeah, that’s how luke feels at this very moment.

how had he not noticed her before? she stuck out. her hair shined under the led lights, her facial features suited her. her outfit seemed to hug her, bringing out just the right parts of her body. she was beautiful. yet she looked lost. uncomfortable. confused. anxious. there was something about her that he-

that seemed to bring the boy out of his trance “what?” luke snapped his head towards everyone else who had a concerned look on their face. a red tint now began to cover his cheeks as he realized he had been caught.

everyone chuckled. “you okay? you zoned out for a second.”

“he’s fine, he was just too busy checking out his little girlfriend over there.” dylan mocked and nodded to the girl who had begun to walk away and into the crowd.

mark turned towards luke, “so i’m assuming you like her?”

“what? n-no, of course not. i mean i don’t even know her, what could you-”

rutger interrupted the boy, “we meant you think she’s a good person for this.”

“oh. yea. yea, she’s fine, good.” luke rushed out. “hey, how come i haven’t seen her before though?” luke questioned.

“i don’t know. we haven’t seen her either so ‘m just gonna say she’s new.” nolan said.

“maybe.”

they turned towards the crowd and watched as she made her way to a girl who they happened to know.

“or maybe she’s not.” rutger stated. “looks like she knows jess.” they followed his gaze to where they saw jess hugging the girl.

“didn’t jess mention getting a new roommate though?” adam recalled. “so maybe she is new.”

“she most definitely is.”

luke sighed, “if she knows jess, then maybe she isn’t the right girl. for all we know, jess probably told her to stay away from us as she likes to call us, ‘self centered dickheads’ and she’ll ignore me.”

dylan turned towards luke, patting his shoulder. “good luck bud,” he added. “also try not to fall in love.”

- he falls first, and HARD ⇒ quite literally falls for her that day

- it takes niamh a lot longer to fall for him. he’s a little more than a year and a half older than her, so when they meet she’s still finishing up her senior year in regina

- when she comes to columbus the following year, she has a little bit of a hard time adjusting to college and being so far from home. cole makes sure she has friends in kj, adam, and jake christiansen

- with owen in cleveland, he also makes sure that she has friends in luca, gavin, james, and denton, even if they bounce back and forth between the jackets and the monsters

- that’s when she begins falling for adam

- once she falls for him, she becomes extremely shy because she doesn’t want to screw up around him. he finds it weird because there’s been no change in her when she’s around the rest of them

- so

- in order to change that

- adam starts calling her merida

- he begins teasing her (not hard - he could never bring himself to do that to her) to see if she’ll start to open up around him

- adam literally can’t shut up about her. it gets to the point where luca (fantilli) and kent almost block his number because that’s all they hear about

- niamh begins opening up a little bit about it, but only to luca (del bel belluz) and denton

- so, the four boys meet and begin devising a plan to get them together

- they all have a groupchat with each other (obviously minus cole and owen)

- this groupchat includes gavin, james, and jake as well

- they all think LONG AND HARD ABOUT THIS

- they are so mischevious

- like they become masterminds

- the plan goes like this

- the jackets and the monsters both conveniently have an off day

- they ask if everyone would want to go out to breakfast to just chill

- niamh doesn’t have any classes that day (luca (dbb) CHECKED FIVE TIMES)

- one of her teammates gave him niamh’s login information to her ohio state account

- she had to change her password because she kept getting notifications saying that someone was logging into her account and it obviously wasn’t her

- they all agree (except for the eldest fantilli because he’s at umich ofc)

- so then denton calls off because he’s “sick”

- and then gavin’s heading back to florida (theoretically) because of a “family emergency”

- the night before, james makes the excuse that “he’s dog sitting for a monsters teammate because he went home for the little break they had”

- so then niamh shows up

- and it’s just her and adam

- by some miracle cole and owen still don’t know about this plan

- would’ve expected kj to spill by this point

- but his mouth is SHUT

- but guess what

- luca calls niamh and tells her that “his car isn’t starting so he’s gotta get it towed to the shop”

- jake is suddenly “helping zach werenski wedding plan”

- and kj “overslept”

- so it’s just adam and niamh!

- and it’s awkward as hell for a bit

- but then they just start talking and the conversation just flows

- and then adam offers to take her to a part of cbus (german village is CUTE) so they can just walk and find little shops here and there

- and she doesn’t get a lot but he pays for everything

Luke softly shook Gemma’s shoulder as the plane was almost landed in LA around four in the morning.

Luke wiped her face a couple of times because her stitches are still bleeding. Nico and Jack both got up a couple times to check on Gemma to make sure she is okay.

Gemma grimaced immediately as she started waking up, her head and entire face was throbbing, even more than it was when she went to sleep.

“Here.” Luke handed her more pain medication knowing she can take more after the six hour flight.

Gemma quickly took the medication wincing as she did. Her whole face just hurt even more now and she clenched her teeth.

Brett looked across the row a seeing Gemma’s discomfort and leaned over speaking softly to her, “It’s worse isn’t it.” He has had many high stitches and stitches on his face before maybe not as bad Gemma has right now but it’s always worst after the first sleep.

Gemma slowly nodded focusing on him rather than her pain.

“It won’t help now but tomorrow when you can put ice on it, it will feel better.” Brett told her knowing there isn’t that is gonna help right now.

The plane landed and Luke helped Gemma off the plane and to the bus.

Gemma kept letting out small hisses as the bus drove them to the hotel, she texted Macklin who wasn’t awake yet before turning her phone off as they got it the hotel.

Nico got Luke and Gemma’s key handing it to Luke, “You got her?” Nico asked Luke giving Gemma another worried look.

“I got her.” Luke reassured and guided Gemma to them room.

Gemma fell right into bed cuddling her stuff animal and immediately fell asleep.

Luke closed all the blinds and fell asleep.

Gemma mostly slept the whole day getting up twice for room service but she didn’t leave the room only talking with Luke and face timing Macklin. She was in too much pain to be around anyone else right now.

December 30, 2024

Gemma looked in the mirror in the morning and her jaw dropped, her whole left eye was black and blue and she could see all of her stitches, she hasn’t seen her face yet after the high stick.

Gemma took a shower allowed to wash her face now and got to wash her hair a lot better and get the remaining dry blood completely off.

The boys were at practice but she got a maintenance day because of her injury.

Gemma threw on a pair of floral linen pants and a simple white cropped long sleeve and she was slipping on her pink shoes just as Luke opened the door and Jack was with him.

“Gigi!” Jack quickly walked over to her and hugged her gently and pulled back scanning her face noticing her dark her eye has gotten, “Are you feeling better?” Jack knew she had a hard day yesterday.

“Getting use to it.” Gemma shrugged softly.

“Okay to see Z?” Jack checked and Gemma softly nodded. Jack beamed and they started walking out do the room, Gemma grabbed her purse and they headed down to the lobby.

Trevor beamed seeing the three walking down and his smile dimmed a bit seeing how bad Gemma’s face was, “Little G!” Trevor pulled her into an excited but gentle hug.

“Hi Z.” Gemma giggled slightly and hugged him back, she winced as she giggled.

“That’s a good black eye.” Trevor winced and patted her shoulder softly.

Gemma just smiled as much as she can at his words because she wouldn’t expect anything else from Trevor.

Gemma immediately winced when she stepped outside for the first time since she got injuried and Jack immediately was handing her a pair of sunglasses, he had grabbed a pair having a feeling she was gonna need them.

Gemma mumbled a thank you putting them on and letting out a sigh of relief.

Gemma got into Trevor’s car with Luke and Jack and Trevor started his little tour of his city.

Gemma may have been in pain but she had a fun afternoon with Trevor and she had a fun time getting to see more of his city as she hasn’t been in LA/Orange County area much.

December 31, 2024

Gemma was sitting on a barstool in a bar in LA after the game against the Ducks and while they lost, the Devils were still all out for New Year’s eve.

This is Gemma’s first New Year since meeting Macklin that they aren’t together. She had face time him and Will when it was New Years for him but he was asleep by now as she is three hours behind him.

Luke plopped back down in the seat next to her with a plate of soft pretzels and pushed them closer to her making Gemma smile and pick up a pretzel.

Gemma and Luke shared a small laugh seeing Jack and Trevor both very drunk and singing together it was even funnier as Nico was near them just shaking his head.

The countdown happened and it was officially 2025.

“Happy new year’s Emmie.” Luke gently kissed her cheek smiling softly at her.

“Happy new year’s Lukey.” Gemma softly spoke back.

Jack came over to two of his favorite people tossing an arm over both of them and kissing both of their cheeks being careful of Gemma’s injury.

They didn’t see Nico taking a photo of them before he came over kissing Gemma’s cheek too.

Gemma might not be able to be with Macklin but her Devils aren’t a bad second choice.

January 3, 2025

“Oh Gemma are you coming?” Nico asked her as a bunch of them were walking out of the rink after a practice in San Jose.

A bunch of the team was going out to dinner with Tyler Toffoli wanting to catch up with an old teammate and they all wanted Gemma to come.

“Sorry i’m seeing some family.” Gemma apologized, she could only see who she was seeing today and she missed them.

Gemma saw a familiar car waiting for her in the parking lot and she waved bye to the boys and she walked to the car getting in.

“Ow i’m sure Mack is worrying over that.” Aiden said as he winced at her stitches and very black eye as she got into the car.

“Hello to you too A.” Gemma fondly rolled her eyes.

“Sorry Gem.” Aiden sheepishly smiled and pulled her into a hug, “Hi my favorite future sister in law.” He gave her a mischievous smile.

“I’m your only future sister in law right now.” Gemma looked amused and Aiden just shrugged.

Gemma couldn’t come to San Jose and not see the Celebrini’s, luckily she gets to see Aiden too as he is still on break.

Aiden and Gemma just chatted as Aiden drove them back to the Celebrini house. The second he parked the car in the driveway Charlie and Rj were rushing out of the house.

“Gemma!” Charlie and Rj both yelled in excitement as they rushed right to her.

“Hi Char, Hi R.” Gemma laughed softly hugging the two.

“Is your face okay?” Rj peeked up at her looking worried.

“It’s okay just healing.” Gemma softly reassured both of them and kept her arms wrapped around their shoulders as they walked into the house.

“Gemma darling!” Robyn beamed setting down the two in the kitchen and quickly walking over hugging Gemma.

“Oh darling.” Robyn frowned softly at Gemma’s face.

Rick walked over and pulled Gemma in a firm hug and clapped her shoulder softly.

“Come sit. Foods almost ready.” Robyn made Gemma go sit down in her seat at the Celebrini table as Robyn finished up dinner.

Gemma listened to Charlie and Rj both ramble to her for most of the dinner, Robyn and Rick asking her some questions but not much as she just saw everyone for the holidays.

Gemma was happy to spend time with all of them as the Celebrini’s are family to her and she’s comfortable to spend time with them without Macklin.

Gemma stole a few more of Macklin’s hoodies out of his room before Aiden drove her back to the hotel.

January 5, 2025

Gemma was curled up on a couch in a one of the TV rooms in the hotel in Seattle. More than half for the Devils were in the room all sitting around the couches, chairs and some on the floor as they were all watching the WJC gold medal game.

Gemma watched as the clock was getting closer of the third period ending and the game was tied up.

Gemma frowned slightly, a part of her really hated not playing in the tournament with some of her best friends but she was also happy to be playing with the Devils.

Luke reached over gently grabbing her hand recognizing the look in her eyes, he understood completely what she was feeling because he felt the same last year.

Gemma watched as Zeev pass the puck up and Teddy scored, she smiled happy for her friends as they just won the gold medal even if she wished she could have been there.

Gemma clapped softly with the other US Devils as USA just got a gold medal. She smiled softly seeing the beaming smiles on the team’s face but especially Ryan and Gabe and her BC boys she missed them.

January 7, 2025

Gemma yawned as she leaned against the elevator, she just back to New Jersey early this morning after flying out of Seattle right after the game.

She didn’t want to make Macklin get out of bed this early so Jack and Luke happily dropped her off.

Gemma unlocked the front door and took her jacket and shoes off tossing the keys on the table, she let out a tired sighs and just dropped her bags on the floor, she would deal with them later.

She looked at the hallway hearing footsteps seeing a sleepy Macklin walking towards her, she felt her shoulders start to loosen seeing him and they both rushed to each other hugging tightly.

“I missed you.” Gemma softly whispered blinking back happy and sad tears, it’s always hard to be apart from Macklin.

“You’re okay.” Macklin breathed out his hands shaking softly as he held her again in his arms, he hasn’t been able to stop worrying over her since he saw her drop on the ice.

“I’m okay amore.” Gemma softly mumbled back pressing a kiss to Macklin’s neck.

Macklin reluctantly pulled back but he wanted to see her face, he cupped her face softly and looked at her face. Her stitches were still there but seemed to be closing well but the black eye was still very bad.

“Oh my sweet girl.” Macklin whispered looking sad, he hated knowing she was in so much pain and he couldn’t be there for her. He’s seen with a few stitches and bruises but he’s never seen her injured before and this is the worst he’s ever seen her hurt.

Macklin pressed the gentlest kiss under her eye and on her eye.

Gemma melted into Macklin, “Cuddles?”

“Of course.” Macklin pressed a soft kiss to her forehead both of them just so happy to be back together again.
