Vipapa and baby Mavson

Where little Petes favourite thing, that will 100% without fail get him smiling, is Vipers mustache.

Yep, everytime Petes in a tantrum or upset, Viper wiggles his mustache and suddenly its the best thing in world and an entirely fascinating discovery to little Petey. Makes him giggle and laugh everytime.

Even when he was a baby, the one thing to get him to stop fussing if he wasn't hungry or needing a change was his Vipap holding him gently and making silly faces. More than a few of the hairs were sacrificed to baby Petes chubby little fists as he reached up for him.

Viper thinks its the cutest thing, and even though his son denies it, he can still make his little boy smile and feel a little bit better about the world if he gives him a side glance and surreptitiously wiggles his mustache at him. It leaves a 23 year old Lieutenant Pete Mitchell fighting to hold back very unprofessional and non-grown-up snorts and giggles.

Mav not liking Jake and not liking Jake dating his only child is an amazing concept, ESPECIALLY when all his reasons are that Jake is too much like him. But it's even funnier if he doesn't realise it.

How they got their callsigns (silly, not canon, ‘86 flyboys)

Iceman: covered this in another post, but he runs freezing cold, his hands are like sticking your fingers into a freezer. He never notices that he’s cold. Slider once grabbed his hand to help him up and joked he was like a man made out of ice. It stuck.

Maverick: I’ve got no jokes here lmao, flies recklessly, dangerously, bends the rules, etc.

Goose: laughs like a goose, but also obsessively mother hens over Mav and other pilots he’s friends with. Was ‘mother goose’ originally, and then got shortened

Slider: looked increasingly upset at the size of the burgers served at some family picnic until he was told they were starters called sliders. No one lets him live it down

Hollywood: LA boy, talked a lot about growing up in LA, near Hollywood, that people just started calling him Hollywood

Wolfman: really hairy. Like so incredibly hairy someone was tired and saw him at like three in the morning, shirtless, and panicked thinking he was a werewolf

Merlin: incredibly lucky. Inspects the plane before he gets in every time and the one time he didn’t, there was a minor mechanical fail. People made jokes he was a magician

Sundown: made sure to watch the sunset every night. Finds it soothing

Chipper: incredibly pessimistic- people started calling him chipper as an ironic name to make fun of his grumpiness
