I have just formed a new opinion.

Good activism is invested in advancing its own cause, bad activism is invested in destroying other causes.

If your activism is fueled by hatred and anger and a desire to destroy something, it is most likely bad activism. It is going to waste everyones time and cause polarization and violence and conflict. One slip up with bad activism will have you spiraling into prejudice (anti-israel to violent antisemite pipeline anybody?).

thinking about that one time I posted about going to an rally organized by STUDENTS at my shcool. In support of Pro-Choice stuff, out of all the werid anti life retrotic that got thrown around in my notes and the notes going “uhuh r/thathappened” comments what discouraged me the most where the notes going off on me about how I didn’t do “enough” and how it hardly mattered and wasn’t going to change anything. And what that says about how the internet views it.

Looking back I remember feeling so ashamed of myself that I even brought it up or that I wasn’ t doing “more” and how it made me not want to get involved again because the only ways i could where small and “didn’t matter “ because of an situation out of my control that I was (AND STILL AM IN BY THE WAY) in. How people thought it was appropriate to chastise me for not doing enough because of that.

Oh and by the way when I made that post I was 16. So yeah great job guys /sarcasm

her main weakness is pitching because she throws the ball softly to avoid other players being hurt, her batting is below average and only works 45% of the time by chance

but she is a top teir runner & fielder the second where she sees a piece of trash or a small animal in the middle of the field, she doesn’t play about her environmental actvism🙏

i would describe her as kind-hearted and gentle to the other backyard kids, rhoda tries her best to be friendly and approachable. her main passion in life is helping animals and the environment, another pastime of hers is spending time outdoors.

• rhoda is 14 yo so this makes her like the 2nd oldest in the “trio”

• the nickname “daisy” comes from how she loves anything about plants & how nice she is

• she throws with her right hand and bats with her left

i went for a more beachy/summer theme for her since i thought it was cuteee also i was slightly inspired by the mamba gyaru style, also in this version she has braces!!

Clyde!!

his main weakness is pitching due to his god awful eyesight and his weak right arm when pitching

for a boy who mostly stays home and plays video games his fielding and running stats are above average cause he is an absolute unit compared to everybody else so of course he would be decent in those 2 categories

the reason why he is cracked at batting is that clyde channels all of his pent up anger and frustration into hitting the ball, from his power alone he broke like 4 different baseball bats in half

i would describe him as a social recluse who has trouble with being sympathetic towards others, this causes him to act entitled and irritable if things don’t go his way

the only positive to him is that he is somewhat determined to do his best, with him being more calmer it balances our rhoda’s eccentric personality and veronica’s more childish one

other info & headcanons :

• clyde is 15 yo and is the oldest in the trio

• his nickname “sparky” refrences the explosion simple graphic on his shirt and how he has random bursts of aggression when he is to carried away when playing on the field

• he is the same height as billie-jean, he could basically dropkick 75% of the kids if he wanted to

• clyde’s best sport is football while his worst is hockey

• clyde’s right hand is practically useless, clyde only knows how to throw with it while his dominate hand is his left when batting

The only problem I have with Diane's arc is the implication that in order for her to get happier and mentaly healthier she must stop caring about societal issues.

Yes, I know that her actvism was partly fueled by her want to make a mark in the world and that she had to learn to not obssess over bad stuff that's out of her control and that made her miserable in order to get better, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't have care in the first place. Like, she had good points and noble intentions, even if the way she tried to resolve stuff wasn't exactly efficient or good for her.

What bothers me the most when I think about it is how the first scene in "Good Damage" that shows how she's improved with antidepressants is her stopping her spiral over the overproduction of plastic with the snacks in a beiseball game. Sure, it's great that she managed to quit a self-destructive spiral during a time of relaxation but what she was obsessing over is an actual enviromental issue! Of course, she shouldn't believe that she must tack it on head-on and alone, which is why there are so many actvist communities! Because nobody can change the world on their own!

The issue with Diane's actvism wasn't just that she wanted to feel special, or that she was overly self-righteous, or that it made her miserable, but also that she'd often do it all on her own, with no organizing or planning whatsoever!

Want to get a chicken to a better farm? Break in there with your stoner friend and this random teenage you were assigned to babysit that day.

Wanna take down a serial mysogynist who happens to be a beloved celebrity? Spearhead the whole thing and become the main target of mysogynistic haressement and death threats.

Wants to take down a capitalistic monopoly? Go around investigating said capitalistic monopoly with your cameraman/partner in an attempt to bring them to justice, only for it to come to naught when the law gets on his side.

I get it! It's not easy and being burned so many times by your failuires to make a dent on the world for the better would make lots of people to give up! However, if Diane worked with a community working towards the same goals as her, that could've supported her and vice-versa, and organize and plan stuff together, she'd probably wouldn't have burned herself out that badly and may even have managed to exact actual positive change!

It's really odd that a show that states that "In this terrifying world, all we have are the connections we make" would just miss that.

I wish Diane managed to have found a happy balance between her mental health and her desire to change the world instead of sacrificing one for another. I just don't think someone can medicate themselves out of systemic issues.

When I first joined the ATLA fandom, I always thought Zutara and Zukka were ships born because people thought the water tribe siblings deserved better than the narrative after ATLA (comics and LOK) rather than a genuine love for the ship, and for some reason being shipped with Zuko was going to give them justice.

From what I've seen, Zutara started because of the "I'll save you from the pirates scene", because fans already liked Zuko and Katara was kind of the "default female lead" in the show at that time since she was only girl with a significant role at the time. The "We are the feminist ship and only want what's best for Katara" came later, and it was just a bullshit excuse to try to bully people into hating the canon ships and liking Zutara, otherwise they'd be called misogynists.

Zukka was even stupider. It was literally because Klance didn't happen in Voltron, shipppers got mad, and latched onto Avatar... which also helps explain why Zukka fics are absurdly out of character - the ship these people actually like is not even the one they're pushing. They copied the Zutara tactic of "If you don't treat my fanon bullshit as canon, you're a bigot" only they'll call people homophobes.

Basically is two annoying groups acting like shipping is actvism just to pretend they're doing something important instead of engaging in a pointless ship war.

Its always been a thing in fat activism that because of the general . Malpractice. Committed by doctors against fat people that they don't trust most doctors. Combined with the fact that (as most people don't believe) its very natural for certain people to be fat, and in fact often unhealthy for them to be skinny, this often leads to the fat liberation community to generally disbelieve a word the medical community says about obesity and fatness. It's a really difficult thing to talk about because to a certain level, a great deal of it IS true. My asthma was never caused by my fatness, just by my lungs. My random cramps and pains still were there when I lost all the weight the doctors asked me to. My body failed completely when I was skinny. But I'm personally of the belief that it often ends up lacking nuance. Obesity can cause these issues in people for whom that's not their natural sort of body type. (I could talk about how much I hate obesity just as an overall term but I don't really wanna make this any longer ok thanks bye)

yeah I think the problem w the video I was watching was It was dealing in two extremes with the editor being a fat person who was anti-fat activism or at least the radicalism of it and the loud radical voices of the fat actvism movement (going back to the video of the woman who's name I cant remember having a go at a girl who lost weight bc she couldn't actually wipe her ass anymore <- I doubt this is a popular take in fat activism but its just being perpetuated by a few loud ppl kind of deal) so there wasn't much room for nuance bc it seemed like an all or nothing type deal i stopped watching it
