Have you guys noticed that trend in shortform content lately where people will say something in the video and then put something else in the subtitles for comedic effect? Yeah?
Fuck that.
I have an audio processing disorder and I need subtitles for accessibility reasons, so do hard of hearing and deaf people and anyone else who needs them.
They’re supposed to be an accurate representation of what’s being said in the video.
Say it with me folks.
Disabled people deserve the same experience of content as everyone else.

Audio processing disorders aren't just delayed processing. Sometimes it's just not comprehending what the person said at all.

Kitab - Assistive Technology
Transcript Below:
1. [pointing to my throat and left ear] Astrid: I can't use my voice anymore due to abductor spasmodic dysphonia. Astrid: Plus I have audio processing issues and actual hearing loss.
2. [signing: COMMUNICATE] Astrid: So I could use some assistive technology to help me communicate.
3. [wearing AirPods in a crowd - On the right, a maxed out volume in the red goes down to four pips of green on the right.] Astrid: The new Apple AirPods Pro 2 are apparently hearing aid quality. Astrid: I could use the noise cancelling to help me hear in crowded environments.
4. [holding an iPad Mini in my left hand and an Apple Pencil in my right hand] Astrid: The iPad Mini is my favorite iPad size. Astrid: And the new one is compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro.
5. [I'm writing on the iPad Mini while surrounded by paper notes] Astrid: Since I can't speak now, I could use this to write notes. Astrid: It saves paper and keeps my communication ephemeral, like speaking. Notes: Yeah, my voice is broken. - If you speak clearly. - I'd … a latte please. - Where is the bathroom? - I'm still learning ASL.
6. [enjoying music, represented by a staff of assorted notes floating up and away] Astrid: Of course, I can also use this for digital art and listen to music. Astrid: Bonus!
7. [Sarita is in a white dress and has her arms crossed. Astrid signs: YES] Sarita: You're just trying to justify dropping $1000 on fancy toys. Astrid: Well, I mean, yeah.
8. [Sarita still has her arms crossed. Astrid signs: DRAW] Sarita: Do you even have $1000? Astrid: Of course not! I draw comics and post them on the internet. How would I have money?!

Ok, I have an honest question, which is me trying to work on the dial of my Audio Processing Disorder.
In “Someday My Prince Will Come…”
youtube
At 42-43 seconds, as she hits “sing” on “And the birds will sing” and poor Sleepy jolts like that…
Do other people… find that note*… Pleasant???
And…. not like they were literally stabbed through the ear into their brain with a three foot long hatpin???????
Tumblr media
Like, I have to assume this song is supposed to be nice and sweet and….. not absolute long distance murder please help me please…… that word is the worse but even the rest is grating between “lovely” and “nail file.”
*And, if this is supposed to be intentional and delightful, can someone literate in musical terminology give me the vocabulary for describing it??? Pitch, register, if there’s a specific term for the warble between what I’m assuming are half notes oh burning stars that vibration makes the pain so so much worse pain…..
Or am I somehow in the majority here and everyone just - doesn’t say they wish this song was physically removed from all of the Earth??????
(this is not the only example I have, but a very easy one that does not throw shade on anyone currently living)
(I’m currently watching some performances of songs composed by Hildegard of Blingen, and trying to understand why some high female singing doesn’t kill me as much as this song so brutally does………)

fanface for your free ableist blocklist. Claims that "less than 1% of disabled people you see on the internet are really disabled, the rest are all faking it". Gets mad when you point out that this is just blatant ableism.

HAPPY MISOPHONIA VISIBILITY DAY!!!
Someone that had misophonia is sensitive to certain sounds, and hearing those sounds cause a severe reaction, usually intense anxiety or anger. I personally get panic attacks and either shut down or become angry. Common triggers are often repetitive sounds like chewing, typing, tapping, footsteps, and many more.
(Keep reading for more info on misophonia!)
Interesting note: Other mental disorders, namely anxiety disorders, cause problems in the parasocial nervous system. This nervous system is in charge of keeping people from danger, so it’s in charge of the “what if”s. When misophonia is triggered, it causes distress in the central nervous system! So misophonia causes physical pain!
There is no way to ignore it, no way to cure it, and there is a severe lack of research on it. There are only coping mechanisms like headphones and noise machines. Oh, and please note that you cannot “get used” to the triggers, so exposure therapy does not work. In fact, being exposed to the triggers makes it worse! So please, if anyone asks you to stop chewing or doing a noise so loud, at least try to be understanding.
Happy misophonia visibility day!!!

As somebody with audio processing difficulties, I hate when neurotypical people act like I’m being stupid or difficult when I ask them to repeat something. Seriously, how hard is it to just say something again? Alternatively (and I’ve told people this, most either don’t remember or don’t care) you can just make sure you have my attention before telling me something or asking me a question, then you can usually skip repeating yourself.

question. why is it when put in my noise-cancelling earbuds the whole room goes blissfully silent. but after about 15 seconds i can hear the fucking hvac running again and i pop my earbuds out thinking theyre not working, the hvac noise gets insanely loud, i pop them back in and get another 15 seconds of silence. this cycles ad infinium unless i turn on music to listen to, which kills me, because im a simple nan and sometimes i just want to listen to NOTHING

i'm watching 25 ji Akasaka de and the GAGA SUBS ARE SO HORRENDOUS I UNDERSTAND WHY PPL COMPLAIN NOW.... the number of (often critical!) lines completely untranslated, lines translated into the wrong tense, and basic shit like translating 風呂 as “shower” when it’s… not really used to refer to showers right? and also you can SEE HIM TAKING A BATH.
i’m neither fluent nor a translator so I don’t often get irritated by poor subs but wow. the untranslated lines is what’s really getting to me. Leaving out Hayama-san calling Shirasaki-san’s large bed エロイ is a crime, actually.
