So I love Dandadan actually because through those first seven episodes I couldn’t stop repeating to myself “Wow Momo is so fucking cool” like she’s such a genuine badass. My shounen senses were primed for her to just get saved over and over again, maybe just helping out every now and then but no SHE’S the one doing the majority of the saving. She and Okarun both feel like real people and they’re setting up a sweet and genuine romance that doesn’t feel creepy. The voice acting is also so good like she is SCREAMING out here.

Usually when an anime has two protagonists and one is a female she feels like a passive observer just getting swept along for the ride even when they’re supposed to be “tough” it fades away or they are made lesser to make the male lead look better. But Momo and Okarun actually work together!!! They both act like human people!!!! Including the ugly parts with Okarun’s avoidance tendencies and Momo regretting when she does lash out because she knows she’s in the wrong. And they talk about it after she does!! It comes with a healthy dose of “teenagers are kind of mean because they’re still maturing” which is normal and amazing to see.

This anime is healing something I didn’t even realize was broken when I found myself not having to cringe away from little moments that make me uncomfortable. There is a bit of fanservice going on (thanks grandma) and yes I get episode 1 starting off as a bit much for people but honestly, genuinely, did you think aliens WEREN’T going to try and probe someone in the Alien Ghosts Anime TM. Kidnapping humans and cows for experimentation is what they’re most famously known for. You are meant to be uncomfortable and weirded out by this episode. An episode that ends when she unlocks fucking psychic powers and blasts that alien through the wall of a SPACESHIP like hello??

Momo Ayase is that character you give a gun to if you want to shorten the book by half and the author gave her one in the form of psychic powers.

While I'm curious about the other's dreams in Book 7, a part of me is mostly looking forward to overall shenanigans with the Dream Team and their assigned overblot buddies!

Especially since it looks like we're revisiting past twstunes.

-Jamil and Octavinelle is always funny AND a recipe for disaster;

-I can already hear Azul complaining about Savanaclaw's weather, not to mention his overall lack of stamina and how Book 2's twstunes are all either chase sequences or Magift;

-Leona painting the roses. Or helping bake a tart. He can't even escape because then dream Riddle and Sebek will team up and yell at him.

Really hoping the Heartslabyul dream sequence is just extra chaotic. Maybe everyone already knows it's a dream, maybe the blot becomes even more dangerous. Maybe Malleus makes an appearance.

Part of me wants Cater to get a new card. I love Trey, but people often forget that Cater is also an important friend of Riddle's, so getting him to be the one to snap Riddle out of the dream would be great!

Maybe we can get cards for Trey AND Cater (maybe Chen'ya too), since both Tweels are getting cards...

Also I need Deuce's sequence to be Rabbit Fest again. We already have outfits for both Silver, Ortho and Grim, so we only need ones for Leona, Sebek and Ace (and even then Sebek and Silver often wear matching outfits,so you really only have to think about Leona and Ace). Idia's tablet also gets a ribbon. There's also a gang fight.

I just need Leona to have the worst time possible in Heartslabyul dreams.

Ortho, after we finish Savanaclaw's dream sequence: Alright, now it's time for our next dream! And you know what that means!

Silver: Only one more dorm before we face Lord Malleus again?

I love this trope I've noticed in AOS k/s fic where the author will put in one or two lines to mention Uhura and Spock having, usually at some unspecified point in the past, broken up amicably.

And it's always either just a vague "amicable breakup" or, if it is clarified why, it's like. They realized they were looking for different things out of a relationship, or they weren't as compatible as they originally thought, or Spock realized he was gay. Some super normal mundane reason to end a relationship, nothing dramatic. And then it's usually clarified or implied that they stayed really good friends after.

It's so refreshing because I very clearly remember the fandom days of irrationally hating and bashing on the female character who "got in the way" of your gay ship.

Apart II

In which the datables (+Luke) react to your disapperance. A sequel to this.

Warings: minimal proofreading, rampant speculation in Barbatos' part. Also, I skipped over Solomon for obvious reasons. 😅  As always, minors DNI.

Diavolo:

Diavolo is many things: a friend, a lover, a prince.

But at the end of the day, he's a ruler who's first priority is the safety of his realm.

He's heir apparent and defacto head of the devildom while his father remains...indisposed.

This means that the fate of the devildom, and, in turn, the three realms, ultimately falls on his shoulders.

So, when one of the human world students goes missing? It's a war waiting to happen.

Diavolo does what any politician worth their salt would do: lie his ass off.

Every friend, every enemy, every diplomat who's ever met you hears a version of the same story: Solomon has taken his apprentice to a remote location in the human world to hone their skills.

Divaolo is a candle burning at both ends. He's running a kingdom, trying to cover up your disapperance, and placating your devildom/human world family.

In private? He misses you. But he barely has time to mourn. He throws himself into work with a single-minded verve that concerns those around him.

Barbatos:

Solomon has a very interesting line in the first few lessons of Nightbringer.

"In the present you just...disappeared. So I analyzed the traces of magic left behind, which indicated that you jumped through spacetime to a past version of the devildom. Then, I had Barbatos lend me his power so I could come here after you."

To lend means, "to grant someone the use of something on the understanding that it shall be returned."

But, has Solomon returned Barbatos' powers yet? Can powers be transferred through a spacetime continuum?

What I'm trying to say is that there's a good chance Barbatos is in the original timeline, completely powerless.

He's not worried, though. He foresaw your disapperance millennia before you came into existance.

And, in the spaces between, while he watched mankind take it's first, trembling steps into the world and spill blood before the alters of false gods, he's been preparing.

The hardest thing is navigating his current duties without the use of his powers. It's hard to anticipate the young lord's needs when he can't predict the future.

Lucifer has stepped in to take over many of Barbatos' duties. The older demon is thankful and likes to consider this a period of semi-retirement.

Overall, Barbatos isn't too worried. He trusts Solomon and any past versions of himself to look after you.

Still, there's an unfamiliar ache in his chest when he mistakenly places two cups out for afternoon tea instead of one.

Simeon & Luke:

As an angel, Simeon was an omnipotent, nigh-immortal being. He's known death. He's known war. He's know the startling, cold indifference of his all-knowing Father.

Still, the hardest thing Simeon has done was explain your disapperance to Luke.

Luke cried himself to sleep. And Simeon tucked him into bed, dimming the lights and slipping out of the room as quietly as possible.

These days Simeon spends most of his time in the Devildom. (He refuses to leave until you're found.)

Luke, on the other hand, spends much of his time with Barbatos. He gardens. He cooks. He knits.

Luke thinks of you often - he can't wait to show you all the things he's learned! He's knitting a scarf for when you return!

I love how Nimona portrays Ballister’s curiosity as not inherently bad, and that when he’s respectful and gentle and acknowledges the sensitivity of the question Nimona is completely willing to explain and to show him. Because no matter what you use that as an allegory for it’s so often the case irl, if a stranger asks something invasive disrespectfully that’s completely different from a supportive loved one asking out of concern or a desire to understand you better, and that in close personal relationships asking questions, even if there’s a risk of stepping out of line or saying something insensitive, is usually good and healthy so long as it’s done properly.

Most of us (just like Nimona) are actively excited to talk about this stuff with those we care about, are happy for people we love to want to know us better, but it’s (obviously) stigmatised by strangers doing so rudely making people think they can’t ask any questions ever, which only increases the ignorance and stigma surrounding whatever the topic is. If someone knows they can tell you when a question is too much, when they trust you and understand what you’re intentions are, it’s good and natural to be inquisitive.
