Lavi & Lanmò

This is a sketch for an alternative concept I thought of, since the character designs for "The Baron of Death" and "Maman la Vie" might be problematic.

The “Loa” are replaced with new characters called Baron of the Dead (or simply, The Baron) & Gran Maman.  “The Baron of Death” and “Maman la Vie” are no longer the “Loa”, but demons named Lavi & Lanmò. They resemble The Baron and Gran Maman, because they sold their souls to them. Together, they can be viewed as counterparts to Alastor - his theme being New Orleans Voodoo; theirs being Haitian Vodou.

Call me crazy, but if this “Baron Samedi” / “Papa Gede”-type  character has to get redesigned, I totally think he should just be Haitian Don Corleone!

This is a REALLY bad, rough sketch. But I actually really like this concept. For  now, I am still proceeding with “The Baron of Death” and “Maman la Vie”  as characters, due to time constraints. But I think this objectively  might be the better concept. I sincerely hope I eventually circle back  and revisit this one.

I be reading fanfiction of a character and franchise I’ve never even heard of in my life because the author is such a genuinely sweet person

one of my favorite things about bob’s burgers is how realistically diverse it is. not only are there lots of characters in the background of different races, but even characters of the same race have different undertones to their skin. plus a lot of the main characters have it casually brought up that they’re some sort of minority. bob says he’s “*mostly* straight.” tammy is jewish. mort is presumably jewish. marshmallow is trans. nat is a lesbian. jimmy jr has a speech impediment. one of the members of the beta frat has a droopy eyelid. gayle is heavily implied to have severe ocd, and linda is incredibly loving and patient with her about it. the belcher family often says things that imply they’re queer. gene interchangeably refers to himself as both a boy and a girl. louise doesn’t connect with girlhood. even personal headcanons in the community such as tina being a trans girl are supported by the official accounts retweeting fanart of the belchers with pride flags.

i just love how real it is about its diversity. because you will just meet a bunch of different people with these traits in your life! and they’re only occasionally explicitly called attention to, because in real life you don’t usually call attention to these things! idk it just makes me so happy. i’m happy there’s not an episode where the belchers have to learn what a gay person is, and instead they just have gay people who exist in their lives, yknow what i mean?
