I think it's about time that we put away the "chewsday" and "bo'ol o' wa'ah" jokes.

It's frankly quite an overused and tired joke, but not only that, it's incredibly classist.

In the UK, accents are and always have been very heavily entwined with the country's class system. There is an extremely long and storied history of certain accents (such as the popularly-mocked cockney) being brutally ridiculed, suppressed in the public sector, and even banned from media and broadcasting while others like RP were promoted and even required.

This has lessened over time, but it still holds pretty true: Your accent is one of the main indicators of your class and your breeding, and will directly impact the way that people treat you.

These are historically marginalised and oppressed accents in the UK, so when you mock them— especially as someone who does not live in the UK— you are, in fact, directly mocking those people to whom the accent belongs.

Personally, I have a very sensitive history surrounding my accent. I was born into a working-class family, but my father was a social climber and intensely embarrassed about his own status. Because of this, he had an intense fixation with ensuring that I fit every classist mould of an upper-class child. I was heavily abused by my teachers as a child into speaking in a Received Pronunciation accent (which they regarded as the "proper" way to speak), and was physically beaten into learning to write in an "educated style."

It took me until I was about sixteen or seventeen to even begin feeling comfortable to speak in my natural accent in the comfort of my own home. When in groups or in front of crowds, I still revert to a softer RP accent. I still have chronic pain in my hands from the beatings I received, and I still refuse to write on paper because it causes PTSD flashbacks.

All this to say: As an American, or generally anyone from outside of the UK, you do not have the right to mock historically marginalised British accents. It is not funny. You are pressing on a bruise that is not yours to press on, and then mocking people when they tell you that you pressing on that bruise hurts.

If you want to mock an English accent, mock RP. Traditional, Broadcasting, Aristocratic, or Modern. Those are historically upper-class accents, which (for most people) have no heavy history attached to them. I would say it's fair game.

But when you mock the accents of the poor working class who have been unequivocally brutalised in this country for centuries and then go on to mock us when we try to tell you why we don't like you doing it, you just sound like a complete and utter asshole.

lewis hamilton: weird accent, he's clearly spent a lot of time around americans, and there's some other oddities thrown in there too. hard to judge the base british accent at this point.

lando norris: he's from somerset, as am i, so probably why his accent sounds the most "standard" to me. definitely some kind of other accent slightly creeping in there, maybe the belgian influences?

alex albon: definitely the most "posh" sounding accent on the grid to me, he speaks cleanly and enunciates

george russel: i love hearing him speak, he definitely has the most distinct accent of the lot. it's very funny to hear him called posh because it's definitely the least posh accent - he misses a lot of his letters and pronounces a lot of Ls almost like Ws.

Ik canon sam uses pet names like babe/baby (amelia) and darlin' (when he's trying to distracting the ladies in ask jeeves) and he's obv spearing with their use but I'm a sucker for polyglot!sam calling his partner more soft/ personal terms of endearment in different languages (especially if they're multi lingual too!) Need him to pull out a Mon cœur or Mi luz or Mo Ghrá one of these days tbh

WAGH SARAH I'M DYING T_T i totally love the classic pet names, but as a language lover i'm too obsessed and i could cry about this. obviously i'm especially partial to the ones in spanish though i'm totally in love with the idea of him using gaelic pet names like. i'm dead on the floor :,) i don't know many gaelic ones outside of mo ghrá but we deserve it and we deserve all of the endless spanish ones filling my head rn. mi flor, cariño, mi chispita (if you're a little fiery hehe), imagine him calling you conejito... kinda think that's really freaking adorable and affectionate. mi cielo, mi alma... dreamy sigh

Essentially, Blair was more than happy to be a cult leader and was rather content with that. However when the final battle occurred and Narinder lost making Blair the new God of Death, they were horrified at the realization. They just wanted to live.

Roach has grammatical gender, in which only Male, Female, and Object are grammatical genders, whereas Worker uses feminine grammar, Queen and King use a slight variant on feminine grammar, and Drone, and Queen-Alate use masculine grammar. This is because King is derived from Queen, due to their similar positions in a colony, and Queen-Alate is derived from Drone, as both are forms of alate.

Queen is an alteration of feminine grammar that functionally just adds a handful of extra syllables to it, and King is an offsprout of Queen that uses the same grammar with different pronouns. Queen-Alate, despite the name, is derived from Drone, as they are both for referring to different types of alate ant.

Most Roach dialects are intelligible to speakers of Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach, but Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach is not entirely intelligable to speakers of Roach dialects due to a mix of the excessively specialized vocabulary caused by the specific needs of its speakers, the fact that its speakers do not necessarily have Roach mouthparts and thus may not pronounce syllables in a similar way, and due to the fact that Inanimate Object is a full grammatical gender that does not exist in any other dialect of roach and replaces a decent chunk of terminology for things that previously had Other Words For Them.
