Having survived abuse from people with mental illnesses, I know the urge to warn others to be wary of those mental illnesses. I know how often it can feel like that is your only power in life…the only action you can take against what you went through. But listen. Just because a mentally ill person caused you complex trauma, doesn’t mean you get to generalize and slander and malign every person with that mental illness.
You do not have to forgive your abusers. but you do have to heal without spreading stigma and misinformation. you do have to heal without antagonizing or dehumanizing others who are also just trying to heal. you have to help break the cycle. because nobody can heal alone.

Some trauma/whump/abuse scenarios for you, because your character can be traumatized without having the literal joker for a parent. Like not all abuse is so outward, I would argue that most abuse looks more like this.
Feel free to add your own, this is just stuff I've experienced
Yelling. I don't mean being yelled at. I mean a child being in a household where their guardian is always stressed and always yelling. It puts your body in fight or flight mode for all of eternity, trust
Sex and other adult topics being discussed with or around a child before they can understand what they're talking about
In the same vein, adults talking about a child while right in front of their face, and not caring what they hear or believing that they don't understand what they're hearing (they always do)
Gaslighting. Phrases like "you dreamt that" "you're being too sensitive" "that never happened" "don't lie"(while telling the truth)
Guardians not supporting the child's interests, or even down right denouncing them, whether they do it by taking the interest away or insulting the child for participating or some secret third thing
Misplaced anger/adult taking out anger on the child
Food scarcity, specifically by refusing to buy food that a picky eater would eat, or not having enough money to keep food on the table
In a similar vein, buying luxury items like game systems, new clothes, TV's, etc, while not being able to afford to put food on the table (and if you want to be even cooler the guardian will make the child feel bad for complaining about not having basic needs met by pointing out all of their luxury items they've been bought, double points if the child didn't want or ask for any of it)
Being treated as a burden, or saying things like "you're too/so expensive" "you're so needy" "you're too spoiled"
Guardian A trying to turn their child against guardian B, making themselves look like the better caretaker or better person.
Guardian who treats their child as a friend, or overall not having enough boundaries between parent and child
Emotional absents. Being there, but never engaging with their child. On the flip side, forcing their kid to participate in something bc the guardian likes it, even if the child hates it
Parentifying their child or forcing them to take care of their household in an adult manner, like helping raise the other children, housework above their skill level, paying bills, etc
Lack of privacy. A guardian telling people about something the child doesn't want people to know about. It could be an embarrassing story, it could be about their sexuality, it could be something that sounds harmless
Physical abuse but only while inebriated, and being (what's at least perceived as) a good parent otherwise
Preventing a child from sleeping while they're tired/extreme sleep deprivation
Repeatedly breaking their trust, like not doing things they promised they would do, saying things they don't mean, bring people who don't like their child around their child, ect
Name calling
Feel free to add your own, or hop into my askbox !! It is always open !!
#this is essentially how to give your character cptsd. the guide book lol#can i be honest with you and say the only reason i made this post is bc ONE fanfic made me mad lol#it was just. so cliche. like i have not spent 18 years being abused by my parents for that to be representation lmao#writing#ah.. maybe one day... i will write again..#fanfic writer#fanfiction#fanfic writing#fanfiction writing#whump writing#fic writing#writing advice#writing tropes#writing inspiration#writing reference#writing prompts#whumpblr#whump inspiration#whump ideas#whump prompt#whump#okay i think that's enough tags#can i be honest again ? wrote this post SPECIFICALLY directed at mha fanfiction... like if we're going to make inko abusive#at least be accurate

Hey media, here's an idea: how about an abusive parent character who's abusive because they're abusive?
Not because they're mentally ill (especially not because they have bipolar disorder). But because they're just a horrible person who'd abuse children, their own at that?

What's your vision for Jamie and his dad in season 4?
Georgie sues James for £30k in unpaid child support (even tho she doesn't actually need it because her son is a millionaire) and her and Jamie and Simon go on a super fancy luxurious vacation with the money
#ask#serious answer: I don't have a vision for James and I would actually prefer not to see him#I think the Patching Over Abuse angle is overdone and given how much Jamie thrived while they were no-contact I wish they'd stayed that way#going no-contact with your abusive parent is a perfectly valid way to heal and is the reality for a lot of people especially#+ when the abuse was so recent#there's very little representation for no contact as a healthy thing even though it's very often the safest and healthiest thing a survivor#+ can do and I liked that Jamie was that for a while#which is part of why I was disappointed by the ending

as much as i love heartstopper, I really wish they had kept in Elle's line about wanting to visit her extended family in Egypt but being worried to because because of the the transphobia she might experience there. While heartstopper does an amazing job capturing the nuances of queer existence (joys, struggles, community, self-expression) and mental health issues (charlie's struggle with an ed, ocd, and self-harm is one of the best representations of those issues i can think of) i always feel like racism and xenophobia are basically absent for characters in the show in a way that feels a little uncanny. Especially when queerphobia is given so much texture.
Many of these experiences are very intersectional, and I know Alice Oseman is capable of writing this (loveless, i was born for this). I also think its awesome there's more media where poc characters are just free to just be and have fun, but just like with the representations of queer joy in the show, it's also possible to show the joy of the poc characters without defaulting to an optimistically colorblind environment. Its just a weird contrast with all the nuanced relevant social commentary on queerness, family, and mental health
#i understand that in alice oseman's older works they might have felt like they didn't have the skills to write an arc involving race#but for the show i feel like they could have expanded on some of the characters even if its just in passing#or even characters talking about their parents experiences#like darcy's mommy issues got fleshed out (which was great representation of emotional/verbal abuse which i feel like isnt discussed as of#so like. character depth would have been cool#heartstopper#heartstopper season 2

what was miu’s father like?
TRIGGER WARNING: Mentions of alcohol, drug use, abuse, the not so pretty symptoms of bipolar. If you are uncomfortable with any of these topics, please do not read or interact. I am not responsible if you choose to ignore these warnings and cause yourself mental harm. I will be tagging each of these triggers in the tags of this post as well.
Mikuo tried his best in the beginning. He really did, and he was ecstatic to have a baby girl. Up until Miu turned around 6 or 7, that's when things got worse. Mikuo became unhappy in his failing relationship with her mother, the product becoming Miu's younger brother, Goro.
Miu was too young to understand the reality of what was happening between her parents and to realize that things were not normal. She loved having a brother, though, which her dad was happy to hear about back then. Mikuo never felt bad about cheating on Chisato(Miu's mom) and having a child with someone else, which is where things start to change. His true colours start to show a few years afterwards.
Mikuo was young and still had a lot of growing to do, and was trying his best to provide for his small family, but most of Miu's memories of her dad from this time would be him sleeping a lot and being angry and raising his voice at her over small things. Chisato was gone for a while and came back into the picture, but she was still heavily hooked onto drugs and alcohol, and she became obsessed with Miu to the point where Miu started to feel like she had to be the mom in their relationship. Mikuo didn't like this, but he knew Miu wanted a whole family, so he tried his best to keep her mom with him in the picture, but he was still very unhappy.
He had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anger issues, and was unmedicated for a long time, and when he was medicated, he wouldn't always take them. This is where things took a turn for the worse. His mania and depressive swings would get more extreme. He stopped playing with Miu asmuch and started to only find enjoyment in sex and money.
Over the years, he had steadily gotten to the point where he found a good job, one with great benefits and one that paid well. One that could keep him and the family afloat enough so they would be able to survive and at least look like a normal happy family. He was at this job for a long time, and he had moved up in ranks and was generally well liked within the company. This made him feel a bit more satisfied, and he really tried his best to be a good father, despite his misgivings.
Mikuo was then suddenly fired from his job over something that he wasn't responsible for, and he kind of exploded at that point. He became more cynical and angry and he genuinely couldn't find any happiness anymore other than alcohol. He took a lot of it out on Miu and Chisato.
Mikuo had no other outlet to vent his frustrations on. He had lost his insurance coverage which helped cover the costs of his medication for his bipolar disorder, and due to his drinking, it amplified the not so great sides of the illness. He turned into a total jerk, a horrible father, and an even worse person.
When he found another job that didn't quite treat him the best or pay him the best, he felt a little better, and was actually kind of happy when Goro was sent to live with them. He was excited to have a son and was happy to see his daughter getting along with him, but it wasn't enough to keep him happy or satisfied. He tried to shape up a bit, but never really thought about the gravity of his actions towards Miu and her mom. Goro saw bits and pieces, and really clung onto Miu afterwards.
Mikuo was still very unhappy with everything going wrong in his life, and continued to get upset and angry easily, often screaming at his kids to shut up when they were just playing together. He didn't really think about anyone else's feelings but his own. Instead of trying to understand or listen to his children when they wanted to tell him how they felt or if something was wrong, he was busy wallowing in self-pity, drowning in his sorrow and frustrations.
After Goro was taken away, he started to feel more hatred towards his life and how boring it was. He continued to take out his stress on Miu and Chisato, and started to see less colour in the world, he couldn't feel joy anymore and the only hint of pleasure he could ever feel was the amusement of seeing others more miserable than he was. He turned into a sick and sadistic man who found enjoyment in hurting the people who loved/depended on him. He couldn't understand what he was doing was wrong anymore, and he never wanted to be sober anymore. He had also started to get into drugs at some point but he wasn't so hooked on them like Chisato was.

you know. there are few things that make me sit and think carefully about my instinct to say something would be a Good Fictional Metaphor for a real-world issue like the time i saw the take with my own two eyes that piranesi is a powerful, insightful, accurate metaphor for both colonialism in general and slavery in the US
#piranesi tag#antiblack racism cw#anti-indigenous racism cw#colonialism cw#like i really /hope/ that was just a bad take and not the author's intent because hoooooooly shit that would be. Bad#starting with the fact that piranesi is fucking british. and also his parents migrated from non-US countries of their own will lmao#that does not even begin to scratch the surface of what a balls-out racist trainwreck that would be but like. Uh#amazingly enough marginalized people are capable of experiencing ableism and individualized abuse#that does not reduce their experiences and their personhood down to a one-dimensional symbolic ambassador for the One Group#marginalized people and their stories are not in fact interchangeable with each other and it's dehumanizing to act like they are#wild i know but autistic black people who have been abused via isolation; trauma-bonding; ableism; and gaslighting#and loved their abusers; and had their trust; loyalty; and goodwill taken advantage of--in ways both utilizing and resisted by their autism#and needed outside help care outreach and perspective to solidify their inklings that what's happening to them is fucked and they need out#exist! and deserve representation just actually!#whereas that's uh Not How Fucking Slavery and Colonialism Have Gone Ever Jesus Christ Lmao#anyway. i could go on for a long time about this shit but tl;dr it is one of the most spectacularly awful takes i have ever seen#and this kind of thing is why i have so many posts sitting in my drafts to mull over re: political metaphors i'd approve of at first glance#because dear fucking lord lmao#the salt files

i don’t wanna get into this discourse (on fiddleford’s end) but i find it very diminishing and honestly a little disturbing to me personally to call ford stupid for being abused. he grew up in a household with an extremely abusive father who had EXTREME expectations for him and his academic career, he was bullied and outcasted his whole life and grew to depend upon his intelligence as what determined his self worth….he’s not stupid for falling for bill’s flattery. he was mentally starved and wanted someone to compensate for all of his insecurities. someone with a history of living in an abusive household will often fall in with other abusers, not noticing the pattern
verdict: sure, it might seem stupid to us—but from his perspective? it’s like holding a diamond up to your face when you’ve been in poverty your whole life and asking you not to take it
I'm tired of pretending that I'm okay with ford being an absolute asshole towards fiddleford and basically abusing him.
first of all, yes, it's not ford's fault that he was manipulated (doubtful tbh) and abused by bill, but that doesn't give him the right to be a jerk who closes his eyes on his friend's deepest traumas. the traumas fiddleford got only because stanford completely ignored his warning and got fidds involved into bunch of shit. like his monster hunting which wasn't even the reason fiddleford went to gravity falls in the first place. he was there to help ford build the portal, not to be a part of ford's anomaly quest. and when fiddleford spoke out against it he was ignored because ford doesn't give a shit about anyone else but himself or his muse. fiddleford got traumatized physically and mentally so deeply that in the need to be able to sleep at night peacefully he completely destroyed his mind to the state that even bill was scared to be in there. and what stanford did? he (the one who couldn't care less about fidds warning him about gremoblin) critiqued fiddleford for using the memory gun and didn't even bother to apologize or say that he's sorry in the journal. god, what am I saying, he didn't even took fiddleford to the hospital after fiddleford feel from the sky through the roof of a fucking barn with a dozen of poisonous quills in his body AND A BROKEN ARM. ford described what happened to fidds in the journal, said he "took him home for a treatment" and the next two paragraphs on the other page is "good news the hyperdrive works" LIKE IS THAT THE ONLY THING YOU CARE ABOUT WHAT THE HELL??? "despite our fortune, I have become worried about my assistant... I myself have survived many monster attacks without trauma, but perhaps F is more sensitive that I realized". no shit sherlock, who would've imagine that seeing your worst nightmares and being poisoned can leave a mark on your mental state. sure it's just fiddleford, he's just overreacting because he's "sensitive"))) /src
ford was ignoring fiddleford's concerns all the fucking time that mcgucket was there with him, he took a superstitious and religious guy with anxiety into the forest with real ass monsters who's no one but ford is used to see. fiddleford was warning stanford about shifty and got kidnapped with his identity stolen by the shapeshifter because ford didn't listen. well, at least this time stanford had bothered to apologize for another traumatic event- ah no, next thing ford said is that when the portal is finished all the traumas fiddleford had been through were "worth it". ford just finds ways to make everything worse
we all know that fiddleford has an addictive personality and that the memory gun is the biggest example of that. what we don't talk enough about is that ford at some point decided that sleeping is for losers, but didn't stop at himself and made fiddleford drink 13 fucking cups of coffee, not allowing him to sleep, what in the future made fiddleford a caffeine addict. ford is not only an overworking idiot who gladly damages his own health, no! he wants fiddleford to be the same and quote "gets frustrated" when fiddleford cares not only about his own, but their both basic needs. fiddleford had to work on the portal, get in the trouble with monsters because of ford, but also babysit this manchild to prevent him collapsing from exhaustion (which is more impossible than building a giant portal into the multiverse)
and here we are, the portal testing. once again (and as always) fiddleford did warned ford about everything. fiddleford was working without breaks for days to make sure if the portal will work, and when he found the flaws, he wrote a whole fucking thesis paper, putting all ford's research into a solid work (not taking even smallest credit even tho he was the one to build the portal. when fiddleford had his own theory in the university, ford helped him to only proof that fidds wasn't going crazy by checking the calculations and ford bothered to take the credit for the whole theory, but fiddleford who was a part and a victim of this monumental theory of weirdness didn't took it because he unlike ford doesn't care only about fame). but what did stanford do? he assumed that fiddleford wanted to steal his fucking fame and backstab him. ford didn't even bother to look at something fiddleford was making for three days without resting to make sure that portal won't hurt anyone in the town and that ford won't end up with empty hand if the portal was indeed a lost cause. stanford coldly dismissed fiddleford like they weren't friends, said that he doesn't really waiting fiddleford for the test of the device that fiddleford did built, and even knowing that the portal was dangerous fiddleford chose to come for the test
and then fiddleford got in the portal and it was the biggest traumatic event for him. it was the breaking point for him from which he couldn't stop using the memory gun. it damaged him so much, that he turned from that bright 30-y.o. man into the familiar to us old man mcgucket in the span of two years. his life was ruined for another 30 years, a half of his life he was a mad lonely guy who lived in the junkyard. the man who could've become someone like steve jobs but much better if only he didn't go to help stanford. his family could've been full, tate could have his father. the incident with the portal was the moment of no return for fiddleford, and what did stanford do?
when fiddleford got sucked in the portal, he thought only about the success of his work, that for fidds it was "a remarkable opportunity to confirm or deny the theory" (which he already did with his pre-test research). he didn't think that it was dangerous on the other side, that the portal wouldn't just disintegrate fidds on atoms. and when stanford saw him speaking in a non-human way, shaking and twitching in shock like fiddleford did after the gremoblin incident, ford decided it was nothing. when fiddleford warned him about the apocalypse because he was in the portal and saw it with his own eyes, ford, as always, didn't listen. he didn't just not care about fidds' condition — he diminished everything fiddleford was feeling and everything he witnessed only because it didn't fit in ford's believes which were based just on bill's words (and for stanford it's not something new to belittle things related to fiddleford. he wasn't taking fidds' dream of creating a portable computer seriously, believing that his weirdness theory was much more important)
and after this, stanford insults fiddleford and his family in the journal. he says that he doesn't regret their partnership (it's not really a partnership if stanford didn't count fiddleford as an equal) and friendship breaking up. "to think I considered him a friend!" I doubt he ever did. stanford doesn't know shit about being a good friend (or even a decent person) to someone who sacrificed everything for him. who did put his life aside to be with ford, who cared enough to stay despite stanford again and again putting him in danger, constantly waving him away and feeling no remorse for that. fiddleford was breaking himself for this guy, he canonically was going through "I am nobody to ford if I don't build stuff for him" (and in the end this is exactly what happened). fiddleford didn't tell ford most of his fears and concerns because he didn't want to bother him. fidds was constantly scared and kept in inside because he wanted to be a "better partner". "if I have an anxiety, I will pop anxiety pills", "I'm gonna get through this". and then he didn't
fiddleford was abused by stanford. he was to stanford that ford was to bill, in some ways even worse. it's fucking wild that fiddleford did forgive ford after 30 years of a neverending madness nightmare with his mind being destroyed so much as like it was the earth in the times of the dinosaurs after being hit by the meteorite. fiddleford had lost literally everything, he wasn't even himself for a half of his life and still fidds found the strength to forgive someone who is responsible for it and who used him with regular emotional neglect. and you know what? fuck this. ford would never forgive bill and fiddleford had every right to stay mad at stanford. ford needed to be stuck in the portal to get his head out of the ass and by that time there were only crumbs of someone who fiddleford once was
fiddauthor and billford both are about abuse and toxic relationships. it's up to you what you like to ship, but we need to acknowledge the fact that fiddauthor isn't some fluffy healthy thing where both are happy. fiddleford was never happy and stanford didn't care about fiddleford and his feelings. they made each other worse and ford ruined fidds' life. THIS is the real fiddauthor
#cw: abuse#tw abuse#gravity falls#ford pines#i’m not really responding to this bc i care about it in the context of these characters#but i find it a very demeaning argument to say that any sort of victim is stupid for falling for manipulation#especially with the context of their past abuse#parental abuse

Does anyone else hate how forgiving your abusive parent is so pushed in 9-1-1? Like Chimney had every reason to stay pissed at his dad for life, yet he got forced into giving the man a chance by Albert who literally guilt tripped him (no Albert hate).
Then there's the Buckley parents who, admittedly, went through therapy, but I don't think it's fair how Maddie and Buck were just expected to forgive them.
Eddie's parents too. I did kind of like how they handled this situation because it was generational trauma and his dad apologised, but the fact that it adds to the list of abusive parents that were quickly forgiven just annoys me.
There's more instances but I can't think. It's like any child who rightfully puts space between themselves and their parent is in the wrong and must find a way to forgive and forget.
As someone who is non-contact with their father, I wish there was some representation for when the parent is unforgivable.

Book of Bill Spoiler
I wanna talk about this
I’ve been seeing an interesting divide in the fandom about how they feel about Dipper and Mabel’s parents having marital issues.
It changes the show a lot, in terms of how the kids act, why they got sent to Gravity Falls, why Dipper was looking for an idol, and why Mabel didn’t want summer to end. I’ve seen some people hate it and some people like it. I am the latter.
Marriage problems doesn’t always mean a terrible home life, or abuse. Dipper wasn’t supposed to hear it, which means his parents are keeping it behind closed doors and not letting their issues become the twins’.
Which makes me believe this isn’t an abusive situation. Alex will torture the shit out of Stan and Ford (we know this), but Dipper and Mabel are precious to him, I don’t think he would put them in a bad/dangerous home life.
If Dipper’s having nightmares about it, it’s because it’s Dipper. He’s an anxious and paranoid kid, who makes mountains out of molehills and overthinks absolutely everything.
We don’t know the status of Mr and Mrs. Pines’ relationship. For all we know, the summer was just what they needed to patch things up, and everything was fine when the kids came home. But if at the end of the summer they have the oh-so-infamous sit down with the twins about a change in their family, it’s not inherently a bad thing.
Yes. The twins would be devastated if their parents separated.
Dipper would be extra moody and angry and our hopeless romantic Mabel would fall into a depression. I can see them both diving into distractions and finding comfort more with their Gravity Falls family. Keeping up with the Stans, Soos and Melody, Wendy, and Pacifica.
But things would settle down eventually, theyd get into a routine and eventually see how much happier their parents are. I can also see Mabel being excited she gets to decorate two bedrooms for herself, and getting to play matchmaker for her parents. Dipper would learn to live with it eventually, and I’m sure all he wants is to see his parents happy, but I think he’d fight it longer than Mabel does.
But they’d be okay.
This stuff happens, and I honestly love the representation, as a child of divorced parents. I don’t see it very often in children’s media, and I couldn’t relate to characters who had parents who got along with each other when I was a kid. And usually if they had step-parents it was because one of the parents died or something.
This is, classic Alex, left up to interpretation as to what’s happening in the Piedmont Pines’ household.
But whatever it is, our Mystery Twins will go through it together

Cw: brief mention of past childhood abuse/trauma, talk of not being good parents. This is representation for the girlies (gn) that are unsure about being parents/know they don’t want kids! You’re perfect and valid
Sirius Black x fem!reader (one use of girl at the end there)
“I don’t think I’d want to have kids.” You say to Sirius as you lay beside him, your head on his shoulder as he tickles your back.
It’s an abrupt confession seeing as neither of you had been talking about that, but Sirius just hums.
“Any reason why, poppet?” His voice is even. To be truthful, Sirius goes back and forth with the idea too.
You take a while to elaborate; “I think having to help raise my siblings, and then dealing with all of that stress and having to correct my brother’s actions and all of that,” you take a breath. “I think it took it out of me. I also really don’t want to screw up a kid.”
Sirius nods, a kiss to your cheek. He feels you inhale against his hand and waits for you to speak again, “Would that make our relationship harder? Would it be a deal breaker?”
He pulls back to get a good look at you. “Because you don’t want babies?” When you nod, Sirius shakes his head. “No, doll. I don’t think I want kids either, but especially so if you don’t want them.”
“Don’t say that just to agree with me, Siri.” You sigh and Sirius copies you.
“I’m not. I go back and forth with it just as you do. Most days I’m leaning towards it just being me and you.” His voice is too raw and earnest for you to doubt him.
You breathe out long, “I just,” you pause, picking your words. “We’ve both had shitty childhoods, I don’t know if we’d be good parents. No one can be perfect and I don’t want to fuck up a kid that didn’t have the choice of being here; I know that much for certain.”
“I think that’s a good thing to know, babe. We aren’t what happened to us and while we’re better now, we can’t predict how we’ll be despite our best efforts with our own kids, you’re right. I wouldn’t want to fuck them up either.”
They fall when you say, “Does that make me a bad person? That I wouldn’t risk it because raising my siblings was like me having kids already and really don’t want to fuck them up like we were?”
He doesn’t like that this has been troubling you. Sirius knows you better than anyone else on planet earth and he knows for you to cry like this means you’ve thought about this a lot.
He hates that you’ve been tormenting yourself over not wanting kids for so long.
Sirius pulls you closer when your tears turn to sobs, his arms firm weight around your back as he kisses your eyes. Salty tears pass through the seam of his lips.
“That doesn’t make you a bad person, poppet. That makes you a good person actually. We can keep our family just like this. Me, you, the birds you feed in the yard and maybe a dog later down the road.”
“And a cat,” you say all sniffly and Sirius wrinkles his nose.
“If you really want a cat, I’ll get you a cat. Just no more thinking it’s wrong to not want kids.” You nod, content to let Sirius pet you as your cries slow.
“You’ll still love me the most right?” He laughs, tilting your chin up and kissing your lips.
“I love you best, silly girl. Always will, even if we had kids.” You slap his chest and Sirius shrugs. “Maybe that’s how I know I’m not cut out, I don’t think I could put someone over you.” He laughs suddenly. “Fuck that’s sounds horrid.”
You wiggle onto his chest, kissing the constellation he got for you. “Doesn’t sound horrid. Dunno if I could handle not being top of your love list.” You say teasingly and Sirius smiles, all pleased that even with your red nose and slightly puffy eyes you’re okay.
Pride blooms in his chest as it does every time he assuages your worries. “Well, you never have to worry, poppet. Now gimme a kiss and let’s finish this episode of Bake Off.”

I cannot believe how this hasn't been addressed in the PJO Fandom yet but does no one notice that the books, Rick himself glosses over or downplays the fact that PERCY FUCKING JACKSON GAVE UP IMMORTALITY!!!
And in reason as to why Percy gave up immortality?
The Percabeth stans are only too happy to make "Oh Percy gave up immortality for Annabeth." The hell he did. Have we read the same books? Are you really demeaning the importance of what Percy did. Cause here's what happened, and here's why it's so important:
PERCY GAVE UP IMMORTALITY SO THAT GODS COULD CLAIM DEMIGOD CHILDREN EARLY SO THAT THEY DO NOT REMAIN DEFENSELESS.
Furthermore, he did it so CHILDREN OF MINOR GODS COULD HAVE A PLACE TO BELONG TO, TO HAVE IDENTITY OF THEIR OWN, SO MINOR GODS THEMSELVES CAN BE PROPERLY ACKNOWLEDGED.
Similarly, he further added that CHILDREN OF HADES SHOULD NOT BE OSTRACIZED, THEY AS WELL AS HADES DESERVE TO BE WELCOME INTO OLYMPUS AND INTO CAMP , DESERVE PROPER RESPECT.
What ticks me off the most is how such an important sacrifice such an important change is never addressed again to the extent it deserves.
Cause this is not a surface level thing. This is going to change and better the lives of all demigods that come after or even demigods who were wrongly forced to remain in Hermes Cabin. A safe, more respectful, more meaningful environment for all demigods no matter who their godly parent is.
Are you telling that children of minor gods don't literally worship Percy for doing all this? Don't wholly completely feel grateful at least that he voiced out for them over his own difficulties? That he made a safe place for them happen?
Are you telling me that Minor Gods themselves don't feel at least a little grateful and respect Percy who did this of his own volition without having even met many Minor Gods. That he voiced out for their own children when they couldn't?
Are you telling me that Travis and Connor or any other demigods and cabin counselors don't automatically rave on about the greatness of Percy Jackson to any new arrivals in Camp Half-Blood?
Cause we were robbed of this of a proper homage to the sacrifice other demigods, Luke himself and Percy himself made to make it happen.
Piper, Leo , and Jason all seem so ignorant to it. Even newer demigods in Chalice of Gods or other books seem ignorant to this, and that's so against the usual canon representation of Camp Half-Blood as a community.
We should have seen it in Lost Hero, should have seen it in Chalice of Gods, should have seen it acknowledge repeatedly. You know why?
Yes, Percy didn't want immortality, but don't you know that deep down Percy knew exactly what immortality meant? Eternal protection from his father in his realm. No Gods bothering him, no more sacrifices or death quests. Freedom to do what he wants. To be able to spend time with his family as long as he wants without the worry of risking their safety. And he gave it all up
NOT EVEN IMMORTALITY. GODS WOULD HAVE GRANTED ANY WISH. HE COULD HAVE WISHED ANYTHING. FOR HIM TO BE PROTECTED? NO MORE QUESTS? FOR GODS TO LEAVE HIM ALONE? HE GAVE IT ALL UP, ALL OF IT.
Perseus bloody Jackson made happen what no one in the History of Camp Half-Blood has ever done. He managed to make Gods change their ignorant ways. He dismantled a culture of neglect and abuse.
And the fact Rick himself let this happen, let all this gloss over, and the fact that Percabeth stans have the AUDACITY to insinuate that he did for Annabeth and demean Luke's sacrifice, Percy's sacrifice is beyond me.
#percy jackson#Percy Jackon literally changed the way of the demigod world#percy jackson supremacy#pjo headcanons#anti percabeth#smart percy jackson#how are we not all obsessing over it's implications#camp half blood#pjo gods#percy and luke

I’m always wondering if it was better or worse for BBT and Young Sheldon creators to say that Sheldon is NOT on the spectrum. But then I see how they treat neurodivergence on shows like Miraculous, and go probably better they keep away from stuff they don’t understand.
I suspect what happened with Sheldon’s character is that they probably modeled him after people they either didn’t know or didn’t care were on the spectrum and by the time everyone was like “hey this guy is obviously autistic” they’d made fun of him too many times to suddenly claim being pioneers of sitcom neurodivergent representation without also having to accept responsibility for their past attitudes towards him
I do, however, think the red itchy sweater episode was fantastic in delivering a message regarding some forms of neurosis
As for ML, it is, at its core, a tell don’t show series. These characters are in love, are close friends, are good at X and Y, are passionate about this and that, hate Z, so on and so forth. We rarely learn about characters and happenstances through actions, to the point where very clear irrefutable events are verbally retconned by random characters and we’re supposed to accept what they say as canon over what we saw. It doesn’t matter if characters are noticeably queer, neurodivergent, good/bad at something, biased about certain people/subjects, struggling with XYZ, etc. If someone doesn’t outright state it, it isn’t canon. This is where the crew loves to claim brownie points for representation but doesn’t actually do anything that might upset the Suits and their bigotry. They have an ethnically diverse character lineup but they’re all perfectly assimilated to white french culture and rarely acknowledge their own supposed heritage. They criticize police abuse but have the victims apologize to their assailants. They have queer characters but their relationships are mostly implied off-screen so they have plausible deniability. They have kids whose parents are clearly mistreating them to the point of leaving lifelong scars and affecting their ability to become functional members of society but it’s obviously not abuse.
I swear there’s some kind of disconnect between the dialogue and the action lines on the script, like no one member of the crew knows what the other is doing and everything is just taped together at the end with no revisions

As someone with a Big Mom type of abusive parent, this is straight facts.
It also shows how hard it is to escape that kind of abuse even well into adulthood.
Like, all the 'how to escape abusive parents' things I've looked at all assume that you'll just be able to dip once you turn 18 and they have no legal rights over you, but a pathological need to control people doesn't work by legal metrics and they're not just gonna let go after that is gone.
one piece has this issue with abuse where oda very obviously believes its only abuse if you intend it as abuse and so the characters that are obviously abusers are like, just plainly Evil and kind of one noted. this doesnt frustrate me with most of the characters but with judge specifically, yes. it does. anyways this post isn't about him.
this post is about his counterpart, big mom. big mom is the best protrayal of an abuser in one piece. because her character, unlike every other character oda has written, understands the cycle of abuse and how good intentions don't matter and that she has good intentions in a really fucking warped way from her childhood and the fact she was raised to be a weapon of the government. AND you aren't asked to forgive her, shes protrayed as a shitty person, ate her own mother and became her. big mom has lead an exceptionally tragic life and she is an exceptionally shitty person. the way people talk about her as a whole person with negative and GOOD qualities is exactly how people talk about abusers. when you look at big mom and you look at her children you see the entirety of what its like to move around an abusive parent and the family dynamics involved. and its so insane to me that she is in the same arc AS JUDGE,
#i mean judge isn't a representation of abusive parents#as much as he is a representation of abusive power structures as they appear in individuals#and the multi generational trauma that specific kind of person can inflict#basically he's a rich person acting in his own self interest to prove his worth in a rich/power family lineage#that only cares about that self worth#he's more a representative of donald trump and elon musk than he is an abuser most people would have experience with#but he is still a very real type of abusive parent
