for anyone too young to know this: watching The Truman Show is a vastly different experience now, compared to how it was before youtube and social media influencers became normal
before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"
and now it's like, "ah, yeah. this is still deeply fucked up, but it's pretty much what every influencer has been doing to their kids for a decade now. probably bad that we've normalized this experience"

I've seen a lot of posts in the wake of tsc calling out how the Foxes mistreated Kevin and never really gave him the same degree of compassion and patience that they gave Neil (and like, fair enough, there's definitely a disparity in how the two are treated by the broader team) but I think it's important to remember that it's very likely most of the Foxes didn't know just how bad things in the Nest were, especially when Kevin first came to Palmetto.
Like, they knew he'd been hurt badly, but were they ever told the full extent of the abuse in thr Nest? Probably not, because unlike Jean, Kevin was media trained. It was ingrained habit for him to conceal the true conditions inside the Nest to all outsiders, and that's not a habit he'd have been able to break easily. The only people who knew the full extent of what he'd been through were probably Wymack, Bee and Andrew.
Add to that Kevin's abrasive personality and his tendency towards nitpicking and perfectionism, and it's no wonder that the Foxes' patience with him ran thin after a while.

Though I just realised after the whole skk FINALLY mutually confess, but uhh how did Dazai knew Chuuya was at the supermarket??? Did he have Chuuya's schedule memorized???
I’m so glad you noticed this, because I couldn’t figure out how to work it into their dialogue in the comic, but YUP—
My thoughts for this particular comic series were that Chuuya is a creature of habit, and Dazai is a weirdo(affectionate) who memorized all Chuuya’s weekly scheduling habits back when they were in the mafia (for strategic purposes, he will insist) and Chuuya hasn’t really deviated from those habits since, so Dazai will periodically have moments like this throughout his day:
…so yeah, after Ranpo convinced Dazai to go clear things up with Chuuya, Dazai ran across the city while doing intense internal calculations to take all known variables into account, and finally decided that Chuuya had to be shopping at that particular grocery store :0

So you want to watch Fionna and Cake…
Without having watched Adventure Time?
Or maybe you watched up to like season 3 when you were twelve, or caught a few episodes while high in college. Regardless, you've seen images of that wet meow meow old man or the the cute sword chick or the gay vamp/sugar queen pair and you're curious. You want in, and you don't wanna slog through 10 seasons of TV first.
Absolutely valid. That said, I do think that Fionna and Cake is… nearly impenetrable if you don't have at least some grounding in the original series.
So here you go: a curated list of 19 episodes to get you more-or-less up to speed. Most AT eps are only 11 min long so it shouldn't take long to get through! And while you'll definitely still be confused about some elements in the series, i think sitting there going 'huh, wha?' is an important part of the Adventure Time experience.
Enjoy!
S3, E10: What Was Missing
Establishes key character dynamics
S3, E9: Fionna and Cake
The first gender swap episode
S3, E19+20: Holly Jolly Secrets
What's up with the Ice King's VHS tapes?
S4, E25: I Remember You
Why is Marceline hanging out with the villainous Ice King?
S4, E26: The Lich
Finn's idol tasks him with defeating an ancient evil.
S5, E1: Finn the Human
Finn struggles to fight off some raiders.
S5, E2: Jake the Dog
Jake makes a wish.
S5, E11: Bad Little Boy
The second gender swap episode
S5, E14: Simon and Marcy
Flashback!
S5, E48: Betty
Simon tries to fix a past mistake
S7, E6-13: The Stakes Miniseries
Technically optional, but great backstory and character development.
S7, E23: Crossover
Can Finn help another version of himself?
S9, E12: Fionna & Cake & Fionna
Finn meets a mysterious woman claiming to be THE Fionna.
S10, E13-16: Come Along With Me
The series finale, which sets up where the sequels move on from.
Distant Lands: Obsidian
Marceline and Bubblegum set off on a quest which brings up unpleasant memories of their youth.

every time i think about that taylor swift quote i just
it's the double whammy of
implying that patriarchy has only existed for a few centuries and before that things were just peachy for women, and
that the solution to patriarchy being founded in capitalism is when woman wins at capitalism
like. it's been known for a long time that tswifts "feminism" has only ever reached as far as it personally benefits her financially but holy shit did she tell on herself with that one

FMA fic I'm never going to write:
Hoenheim's lifespan and continued existence is entirely tied to the hundreds of thousands to possibly millions of dead his soul eats off of, slowly leeching life from the dead kingdom of Xerxes.
...It stands to reason, then, when begetting life, that spiritual artefacts make themselves known in the begotten sons of the dead. There are only four that can claim true heritage of Xerxes— the immortal, the synthesized man, and the heirs to the memories of a long-gone people.
Or. Well. Gone in body, certainly. But that's hardly stopped anyone from wanting to step up and parent.

Image a spiderman meme moment of Meg and Thanatos(doing reverse hades runs trying to break into the house), Asterius and Theseus(he got bored of being ignored and wanted to find his foe[read second only friend] Zagregus and dragged Asterius along so he wouldn’t die), and Melinoe, who is on a vengeful and important quest, all breaking into the House of Hades at the same time.
Hades is chained up and unnoticed in the background, just watching and begging someone to kill him cause why are these idiots here and who let them in his house.
Zag broke out 3 mins ago and is due back any moment now, being dragged back by grandpa who is done with this feral child who he doesn’t have an official excuse to eat but is getting damn close
