Today is Spirit Day, a national day of action to stand with LGBTQ+ youth against bullying. 💜🌈 One way we can fight for our LGBTQ+ community is to VOTE on the issues impacting us most.
Last year, more than 500 state bills were introduced to target LGBTQ+ rights, and 75 became law. The people WE elect have a direct impact on our community.
So make a plan to vote today at WeAll.Vote/voterhub — and let’s vote LOUD and PROUD this year! 🗳️

Hey, PSA for those voting via absentee ballot in the USA. If you don't have a stamp or can't afford one, pop that ballot in the mail anyway.
We have to deliver ballots no matter if they have postage or not. We're supposed to ask the polling place or the town office, wherever the ballots get delivered to, for the additional postage, but if they refuse, we deliver them anyways.
So if you don't have stamps, you can still vote. If a clerk or carrier browbeats you about it, just know that they have to deliver that ballot anyways. If they refuse to take it, drop it off at a different post office, because they're wrong and you deserve to have your vote counted

Important info if you are voting/voted by Absentee ballot (please reblog this post)
If you are voting by mail, you have to make sure your absentee ballot is returned and has reached its destination by the end of voting on election day November 5th (some states allow ballots to be counted if they're postmarked by election day but don't rely on that).
Most states also allow you to cancel your absentee ballot and vote in person if you have to (check here).
Again, please reblog this post. This is really important information.

What is absentee voting and how does it apply to you?
Absentee voting is the option to vote by mail instead of at a physical voting location. Some states offer absentee voting for any reason, and in some states you have to have a documented reason for not being able to go to the polls.
Reasons for voting absentee include, but are not limited to:
College students attending college in a state other than the state they are registered in
Having an injury or disability that prevents you from being able to physically go to the polls
Being out of town for work or vacation on a pre-planned trip
Tumblr media
The above map shows which states allow for absentee/mail in voting without having to provide a reason.
If you are in one of these states and are worried about in person voting, then consider signing up to receive an absentee ballot. I personally live in AZ and for the past few years have done mail in since I don’t drive and I don’t want to stress about getting time off work. This is a great option for those worried about missing work or school, have transportation issues, are disabled, etc.
All states have absentee voting, but for the states that are not green on the above map, you will have to send in proof on why you need an absentee ballot.

🚨🚨🚨 The Fifth Circuit Court has ruled that mail-in ballots postmarked by election day BUT NOT RECEIVED will be INVALID due to...shenanigans basically. If you are voting by mail, send you ballot as soon as possible. If you are able, drop it off directly in you board of elections's drop box. DO NOT WAIT.

This is a PSA to be super careful if you’re filling out a request for an absentee ballot online!
Your auto-fill function may screw up when putting in your home address/mailing address! This can delay your ballot being sent!
Make sure to carefully review your absentee ballot request before submitting it!
Here’s what you need to make sure you’re registered to vote and to request your absentee ballot!
VOTE!

Finally got my absentee ballot! For awhile there, I thought it had just gotten “lost” because it’s been a couple months since I applied for it online.
We have a BC election on October 19th, and since I’m a registered Canadian voter, they’ve been mailing some of the campaigns to me. I thought it was another one of those BC campaigns but to my surprise it was my “lost” absentee ballot for US.
Time to cheer my party on!
…after my two exams next week.

Just registered for my absentee ballot and if you're an eligible us voter in college out of state (or will be out of state on election day for any other reason) you should too👍 (or you can vote in the state you attend college in, which is a good idea if it's more competitive than your home state. You can compare the polls in your home state and your college state here.)

Voting can be scary!!
BUT IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE!
As a person who has voted, I have some tips for YOU!
You can register ONLINE! https://www.usa.gov/confirm-voter-registration That is where I went anyway...
If your current address is different than your ID address (you need to update it... I haven't because THEY REMOVED THE DMV IN MY CITY FUK U)... DO NOT FRET! Just tell the poll people and then you fill out a form and fix it! (At least that's what happened for me when I voted for Governor last year)
Breathe... Nobody is going to hurt you.
Vote Blue. Vote Blue. VOTE BLUE! please.
You can request an absentee ballot!! Just make sure you fill it out and mail it AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to avoid issue! Absentee Ballots are available starting SEPTEMBER 21!
If anyone has anything to add, feel free to add it!

So as we're heading into the American primaries, now is a super good time to see if you're registered to vote. Remember: even if you've been registered in the past, it's possible you've been removed from the registry without being notified. Go check.
Also, now's a really good time to put into your calendar when the relevant dates are for voting. If you plan on voting for election day, this link lists when that is in your state.
Note that voter ID laws may have changed since last time you voted. This map by ballotpedia shows the requirements by state. These rules may be different in the event that you are showing up to register and vote at the same time.

If you're unhappy with all of the options, remember that voting is not the only form of civic engagement you can engage in - getting engaged in your local community is still very much an option that is on the table and is effective. Voting and community organizing are not mutually exclusive acts. While the presidential race is the most prominent it is not the only race that's happening, and that local races that will affect your life far more directly are also on the ballot. Go vote.
