Bioluminescence

This is tentatively an attempt to write from the point of view of one of my ocs, William, who is the oldest of the triplets I slapped onto Ghirahim and Zant. William is the one who closely resembles Zant out of his siblings, though William, Aaron, and Ezekiel all have Ghirahim's dark eyes and sword demon traits that are hard to track down until they literally aren't aging a day past their prime. Yes, I am cringe, but I am free.

The death of my Dad was hard to quantify.

We all knew we would outlive him and our sister Via. That was a given for years. But Dad and Via looked like me and my two brothers. So it was hard to watch them slip away all the same.

Mom said they weren't built to last like we were.

I think Mom was mainly doing their best not to cry. Mom doesn't like crying...they say it makes their cheeks rust.

Of course, it doesn't...not if they kept their false skin on.

As for the rest of us...well. My brothers processed things differently.

Aaron was indifferent.

Ezekiel would snap at us out of nowhere.

And my sisters didn't want to intrude in preparations, they didn't belong to my dad.

Via was dead already, Amaya was trying to keep Mom together, and Zoe had to keep Ezekiel under control.

Which left me to do the preparations for Dad's funeral.

I had to quietly grieve and handle everything.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Dad was old and ailing for a very, very long time. He was 113 years old, and his body was frail and old. Not to mention how he was immunocompromised.

Dad was bed-bound for a long time, routinely being helped out of bed to avoid bedsores, and allow him to sit in his library downstairs or in the upstairs common area between all of the bedrooms, giving him a chance to socialize from his armchair.

That wasn't even mentioning how he would sundown on a regular basis, not really recognizing me or my siblings at all, and only vaguely recognizing Mom.

Mom didn't age, after all.

It made it easier for Dad to want to listen to Mom without a fuss. Mom often made busy work for Dad to wear him out by then.

So when he got sick again, we weren't surprised that Dad would rather sleep the days away and be consoled by Mom. Mom always knew what to do.

Dad slipped away from us for the last time at the stroke of midnight, the start of the New Year.

Mom didn't cry at all...just numbly went downstairs, leaving Dad in their shared bed, and slept in the armchair in the library. I suppose Mom had done all their crying in the weeks before.

In the morning, I took care of removing Dad from the sheets, walking his body respectfully through the house for the last time and down into cold storage until we were ready for the send-off. It felt odd, putting him down there until we were ready.

But we lived far away from any city that had a mortician. We would need to send for someone from Cassiton, the big central city.

So I didn't bother. I knew that we would cremate him, that was a given. He'd wanted that. And some part of me figured that I could do that with my siblings and Mom respectfully.

But when I found myself alone to do it, I wasn't too surprised either.

I took care of Dad's body for the last time before I placed him in his chosen shell for the afterlife, an odd ceramic bottle with glowing teal marks on it, and silently placed it on the mantle without a fuss or saying anything to anyone.

I needed a drink and to lay down for a good cry without anyone hearing me.

I went down to the beach with a bottle of the atrocious nightshade wine concoction Dad had made, smiling slightly at how it still glowed through the dark glass of the bottle. Of course, I brought some of my preferred drink with me, but...a send-off with the nightshade atrocity felt...right.

Memorial candles could be lit beside his portrait later...for now, I will focus on the bioluminescence of the algae, the wine, and the runes he gave me.

I love thinking about Neil Aaron bestfriendism. After they get over the initial mistrust and the fact that Neil is dating Aaron’s brother, I think they could really get along. Studying together for their math and science tests in the library, ignoring Andrew trying to get their attention (because of course he doesn’t actually need to study). Aaron teaching Neil how to play Call of Duty and Legend of Zelda in Columbia. Neil volunteers to be a fake patient when Aaron is studying for his MCAT and during his first years of med school, and Aaron watches Sir and King when Andreil goes on road trips.

I think they have the kind of relationship that comes with some siblings like “we can be little shits to each other, but if someone from outside of our dynamic steps to one of us ITS ON!”

barbie and ken. it's 100% his idea too. ideally he'd want you to go as the default barbie, with the pink dress and heels, while he'd be surfer ken with his shirt off.

walter white and jesse pinkman. the previous year he had went as pitbull nation (rapper pitbull) with tanaka but he wanted to do a couples costume with you instead this year. so going as walter white meant he could reuse his bald cap. the two of you would go as them when they're wearing their yellow scrubs.

regina george and cady heron. your friends refused to go as the plastics so doing it as a couples costume was your next best bet. when you told kuroo you wanted to do a mean girls inspired costume, he assumed you'd be regina and he'd be aaron. but you insisted he go as cady, since they are a more recognisable duo, and he has a hard time saying no to you. on the bright side, he made it work.

men in black. low effort but extremely recognisable. he doesn't pose for the photos properly but it's okay because he's serving face anyway.

link and zelda. of course it has to be something video game inspired, but also he's lazy and doesn't want to put too much effort into his costume, so link is ideal since he can just buy the whole thing online. but he'd combust when he sees you as princess zelda tbh.

taki tachibana and mitsuha miyamizu. he is lowk a sap for romance movies so he'd flip at the idea of getting to dress as one with you. he wouldn't mind putting time into preparing a costume, but the fact he just needs to dress in his school uniform and a wig is definitely plus tbh.

marie antoinette and the cake. tsukishima isn't nessecarily lazy but he doesn't care for halloween and therefore doesn't want to spend a lot of time/money on a costume. you suggest hundreds of low effort costume ideas to him and he rejects them everytime but this one resonates with him. especially as it means he gets to carry around and snack on a slice of cake. let them eat cake!

mummies. the ancient egyptian kind, not the parental kind. it's impossible to find many costumes that would fit his stature, so your options are extremely limited. in the end you opt to just roll him up in toilet paper and call it a day.

ringmaster and circus clown. it's up to you which one you'd rather be because he really doesn't mind. on one hand he thinks it would be awesome to dress up as a clown but also he'd love to see you as one, that would be so cute. plus he could definitely rock a red tailcoat.

Numberless Secrets: An expansion for Hearts of Wulin that adds a Brindlewood Bay style mystery mechanic to the game of wuxia melodrama. For fans of Ancient Detective and such. (Lowell Francis, Age of Ravens Games)

Down the Road Through the End of the World: A game about people on a desperate journey through a post-apocalyptic world, looking for a haven. Based on Psi*Run. (Kodi Gonzaga)

Last Train To Bremen: A storytelling game of doomed musicians and poor decisions. One shot for 4 players exactly, using Liar’s Dice. From Caro Asercion, the designer of i’m sorry did you say street magic.

Deep in a Matrix of Flesh and Metal: A FitD game of crime and cyber-horror, where you and your crew of down-and-outs will try to become the biggest fish in the overcrowded pond that is Zone Zero, or die trying. (Calum Grace)

The Adventures of Gonan: A cute and innovative adventure game based on a fictional kids fantasy TV show, using a scene based structure that looks a bit like Yazeba’s Bed and Breakfast. (Tragos Games)

Into the Blind: A scifi horror hack of Trophy that twists it to tell stories like Alien and other genre classics. (Riley Daniels/Sick Sad Games)

Full Spectrum: An expansion for Spectres of Brocken, the mecha game of former friends turned enemies. This contains a collection of alternate settings and scenarios for the base game. (Austin Taylor, Arisia Santiago, Ethan Yen, Fin Coe, Juliet L’mous, Mike Balles, Valis Teoh, Aaron Lim)

The Pact: A two-player game poem about best friends, one of whom becomes a vampire at some point in their life. Players explore their relationship & find out what they’ll do to keep a childhood promise… (Marc Majcher / Majcher Arcana)

And as a bonus, a game I contributed to, Chiron’s Doom is out. It’s a storytelling game about an ill-fated expedition to explore a mysterious monument. Can be played solo or up to 3 players. It’s pretty neat!

Types of games the cast would play.. except I’m right. (Or just their favorite games) also tell me what you’d think they’d play as well !!!

Nana: she’d fall into gacha hell. Genshin? Plays it. Dislyte? Plays it. Cookie run kingdom? Plays it.

Aphmau: she’d also fall into gacha hell, but is a lot more sane about it than Nana. (Honorable mention, Final fantasy)

Laurence: story driven games, but also has to be open world to an extent. (Ex: red dead, subnatica, last of us)

Garroth: games more on the softer side. Doesn’t like games that are too intense for the player. He’s a casual gamer.

Katelyn: fighting games. Any type of fighting game. (But she has a soft spot for stardew valley)

Aaron: like Laurance, he likes story driven games. But likes games where he can make his own choices to affect the game (life is strange for example)

Travis: big Nintendo geek. Has played every Zelda game, every Mario game, pikman, donkey Kong. You name it, he’s probably played it.

Dante: in the same boat as Travis as well, but doesn’t just play Nintendo games. Avid user of his switch, so plays whatever is on it.

5+1 Headcanons!

I got tagged by @romirola to participate in her game for five headcanons I have, and one I'm still developing! I'm so sorry this is late—everyone else was playing this game like two weeks ago... Here we go!

Starlight isn't just endlessly curious and intellectual—they're also a total nerd/geek. They play Dungeons & Dragons, Zelda, Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy, etc. They told Avior so much about DnD while they were in the trap that he jokes he already knows how to play even though he'd never been on Elegy long enough to learn how

Huxley and Freelancer joined Lasko's other friends' DnD campaign a couple years ago but now that Huxley and Damien are dating, Damien's getting dragged into playing too he finds out it is actually ridiculously therapeutic and since the group was getting too big for the DM, Huxley volunteered to split off. He, Freelancer, Damien, and Lasko make their own group and Gavin joins too. Huxley DMs most of the time, until our favorite control freak who is definitely a rules lawyer Damien gets comfortable with it. Lasko still plays with his other friends too but no one complains about getting to play more DnD. Least of all Lasko. Gavin only trolls Damien a little bit.

I'm so sorry but Vincent played the trumpet in middle school/junior high and high school. To make it up to any band kids in this fandom, He also currently plays the piano like a virtuoso

David owns one (1) pair of blue jeans, rather than black. He wears them when doing yardwork and camping, and that's it Asher owns six (6) pairs of jorts

Elliott almost always wears a grey beanie. Aaron is the one that gave it to him.

+1 I'm working on: Cam and Gavin know each other since Crux is a mutual friend. They actually get along a lot better than literally anyone ever expected them to. Cam's chiller vibes let Gavin relax before he ever met the D.A.M.N. crew, and Cam is also older
