Maria Castle (and Jason Aaron) officially declare: "The Punisher No More"... while gloriously pissing off right-wing chuds in the process!
I just read the final issue of Jason Aaron's 12-issue Punisher maxiseries, and here it is at long last! The scene in which Frank Castle's entire career of mass-murder and fascistic vigilantism is openly denounced by his now ex-wife, Maria!
This scene alone is what officially piqued my interest in wanting to read this book! Although Aaron is one of my personal Top 5 favorite comic book writers, I was initially uninterested in reading his recent Punisher run despite hearing critical praise for it due to both my personal overall lack of interest in Frank's solo-titles (my past exposure to him has mostly been through uneasy team-ups and/or rivalries with other characters like Spider-Man & Daredevil...), as well as the real-life controversy surrounding the Punisher's signature skull logo being co-opted by police officers and white nationalists (even though Aaron's run changed the logo in-response to said-controversy by having him join forces with The Hand ninja-cult). But when I heard about this scene on the day the final issue of the maxiseries dropped, it alone convinced me to want to actually read this series for myself, as it demonstrated Aaron's commitment to actively deconstructing the Punisher as a character while refuting his toxic & harmful ideology!
After being interrogated by the likes of Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Black Widow, and Moon Knight, Frank receives judgment from one final figure in the form of his former wife, Maria. Now able to fully announce her intentions to divorce her husband without a mob shoot-out to tragically interrupt her this time, Maria openly condemns all of the murders that Frank committed in both her and their dead children's names whilst revealing that she arranged for all of Frank's numerous weapons safe-houses to be confiscated. Half of the monetary real-estate from which would go to herself so that she could start a fresh new life, while the other half would be donated to charities in their children's names. As Maria herself states, "That's how you honor your dead family, Frank. Not by using them as an excuse for slaughter," before saying goodbye to her ex-husband for good as he awaits judgment for his crimes from Earth's Mightiest Heroes...
Holy FREAKING crap! This is the literal embodiment of giving the "reason you suck" speech if ever I've seen one! Not only does Maria freely express all of her personal justified grievances with her sadistic ex-husband, but she completely refutes his murderous & fascistic "might-makes-right" beliefs, and punishes him for his crimes by financially defanging him whilst simultaneously donating half of said-money & resources to worthwhile causes that ACTUALLY contribute to helping individuals hurt by corrupt societal systems, rather than further perpetuating said-corruption like Frank's murders have done.
And what makes Maria's berating of Frank Castle even more satisfying to read is that it ultimately managed to royally piss-off the far-right fascist scumbags who glorify & appropriate the Punisher's iconography in real-life. Seriously, when Punisher (2022) #12 was first released I witnessed several Comicsgater chuds whining and complaining about Marvel "ruining the Punisher's character forever" and Jason Aaron "emasculating Frank Castle." Additionally, said-CGers argued that Maria Castle was "unlikable" for robbing Frank of all his weapons and safehouses (except... I can honestly sympathize with Maria here since if I was also resurrected from the dead and found out that one of my relatives committed multiple mass-murders "in honor of my legacy," then I'd be pretty pissed off about it as well...).
And all I have to say in response to these bigoted manbabies' complaints about Aaron "ruining Punisher" is this:
GOOD!
If Aaron's Punisher maxiseries, and specifically the scene of Maria Castle condemning Frank, managed to anger the very same fascist rightwingers who blindly idolize the Punisher (despite his original creator Gerry Conway intending the character to be a cautionary figure about the failures of the justice system), then that fact alone makes this deconstruction of both the character & concept of Frank Castle a truly worthwhile endeavor! While the series ends with Frank using the last of the demonic magical powers granted to him by The Beast to escape the Avengers' captivity, along with the Archpriestess of the Hand trying to indoctrinate another troubled American youth similar into becoming her cult’s next "Fist of the Beast" (reflecting the sad reality of how fascist systems can continue to exist in society even when notable individuals are defeated), it appears that Marvel is officially retiring Frank Castle for good. Even though just last month Marvel released a new Punisher miniseries written by David Pepose which stars an ex-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent named Joe Garrison adopting the mantle, the epilogue of Aaron's maxiseries reveals that Frank had permanently banished himself to the Weirdworld alternate dimension, intentionally avoids fighting in local conflicts but instead provides shelter for war orphans (indicating that he might have actually taken his Maria's words to heart).
In my opinion, this is a far more satisfying conclusion than the alternative of having Frank killed off at the end of the series. This means that he actually has to put in ACTUAL effort to find some form of atonement or rehabilitation, rather than simply evading punishment for his crimes through death.
Overall, Jason Aaron's 12-issue Punisher maxiseries was a phenomenally inventive and thought-provoking character analysis and deconstruction of the truly violent & unstable individual that Frank Castle is (even long before he officially adopted the skull logo), whilst simultaneously analyzing and critiquing the circumstances that contributed to Frank's fascistic and murderous beliefs, as well as their negative impacts on his interpersonal relationships with individuals such as his wife Maria Castle. Although sadly, the way Aaron brilliantly ended Frank Castle's career as the Punisher in Issue #12 was sadly overshadowed by the controversy generated by a certain OTHER comic that Marvel released the exact same week... namely the publicity-stunt shock-death of Ms. Marvel (aka, Kamala Khan… aka, my all-time favorite superhero) in Zeb Wells' Amazing Spider-Man (2019) #26...
Sigh... at least Kamala was fortunately later resurrected over in the X-Men titles and was given the awesome Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant miniseries written by her MCU actress, Iman Vellani (which I've read and absolutely loved)!
But aside from that, the Punisher by Jason Aaron is easily one of the best modern comics that I read in 2023, with Issue #12 being the absolute thesis statement of what this series is truly about! I highly recommend it to anyone who desires a complete refutation & condemnation of the murderous scumbag that Frank Castle is and always has been.
From Punisher (2022) #12 by Jason Aaron, Jesús Saiz & Paul Azaceta.

Do you know why Spider-Verse Miles is my favorite Spider-Man?
He, without having a choice, had to do in two days, what took all the other Spider-Sonas in the multiverse weeks, become Spider-Man, all under the unimaginable pressure of being the successor to the previous Spider-Man of his universe, which left the bar too high, having to meet everyone else's expectations, and having to go through a tortuous journey while learning from his mentor.
Even when the spider-gang not only didn't trust him but even seemed to dislike Miles at first (Except, of course, Gwen and Peter B, who are very special cases)
And pressing him to see if he was ready and treating him like just a kid (Even Peni).
All so that he then went to his uncle, who was like a second father to him and someone who truly understood Miles, only to find out that he had always been a hitman, going so far as to almost end with the life of his nephew, until he realizes what he was about to do and... well, tragedy happens.
The death of Uncle Aaron, due to the depth and history behind it, remains the most tragic "death of Uncle Ben" in all of cinema... ever.
Miles stopped being the same since then, and even when a hurricane of emotions possessed him, he learned that no matter what, Spider-Man always gets up and keeps going, at the same time he learned to take his leap of faith. Before becoming Spider-Man he had a normal and happy life, but after being bitten by that spider his whole life fell apart, but of course, Miles is someone truly strong and full of determination thanks to the people close to him.
In two days, he surpassed almost the entire Spider-gang, and in a year and a half he become almost a professional as Spider-Man, even giving lessons to everyone else, and making it clear to Gwen and the others what truly means being Spider-Man, not standing by crossed arms while someone is in danger, but trying to do everything you can to save everyone, doing both things, even when it seems impossible, Spider-Man should always try, because everything it's possible.
At the same time that Miles felt stabbed in the back by the same people to whom he wanted to dedicate his entire future just to see them again since he felt alone and sad inside in the world without them, and, specially, without Gwen.
And let me remind something, Miles actually thinks she doesn't even love him and only sees him as a friend, but he still wants to see her
On the ATSV betrayal, he release all that hurricane of emotions that he had to swallow and accumulate inside during ITSV and during that entire year and a half for not having time for ALL those things said before, leading him to have anxiety and panic attacks (Something confirmed in the synopsis of the short "The Spider Within")
All so that they later reveal to him that he was a mistake, an anomaly, that he should never have been Spider-Man, that he killed the Peter of his universe, causing everything that gave MEANING to his life fell down in just a few minutes, leaving Miles more traumatized, mortified and with more trust issues than he already had before.
He really became one of the most tragic character of all the saga (Along with Peter B and, put it in some way, Miguel O' Hara)
And just because Miles looks with a cool and chill personality doesn't mean he's any less traumatized and mortified on the inside (An example is Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man).
Even though in the comics that nickname is only used because that is what his universe is called, in the movies, on the other hand, even though there are people on the internet who deny the fact that he is currently becoming an unstoppable phenomenon that is marking an entire generation and will mark future generations, Miles Morales proved to be, without a doubt, the Ultimate Spider-Man.
As a bonus, even though she always screwed up with everyone around her, both the living and the dead, Gwen showed that she really loves Miles and that he truly is the love of her life, however, needless to say, she has a lot of work to do in her redemption arc to be able to fix things with Miles, which will be very difficult but not impossible, even more so taking into account all the hate she received for everything that happened in ATSV.
Now she has to PROVE not only to him, but to all of us viewers, that she truly deserves to be with Miles, that they can have a life together by her own merit, and that all the hate towards her after the ATSV release it's truly unfair.
However, I have to be realistic, there are characters like Peni or even Peter B who should not be anything more than simple 'acquaintances' or 'partners' for Miles, since, with what they did, the term "Friend" It's too big for them.
In any case, Miles has the last word.

They've Got Chemistry!
Miguel O'Hara x Science-Lover!Reader
A/N: Big hearts and big brains.
Warnings: Long fic, Miguel is (sort of) bad/rusty at science, and, while I tried to make this as accurate as possible, I must admit that I'm not as well-versed in the sciences as I'd like to be (I'm trying, though!) and so some information may be incorrect (I apologize to any science lovers/studiers in advance!)
As a geneticist, Miguel is obviously well-versed in all branches of science. But he loves biology. He loves all branches but that's where it's at for him. There's just something so interesting about what two organisms can create and how certain things can be moved around for better or worse. He likes the foresight that comes with the study, how one can predict and prevent.
Due to his role within the Spider Society, Miguel has taken a special interest in molecular biology. His favorite part is seeing how a Spider-person's DNA structure changes after being bitten. His least favorite part is seeing the damage that can be done when a person who doesn't belong travels to another universe. From what he's concluded, DNA becomes damaged following exposure to another universe. He wishes he would have known that sooner.
When Miguel first sees you, it's at one of the many labs within the Spider Society. You're sitting at a table with Miles, helping him with his Physics homework. The first thing that comes to Miguel's mind is wow. Because you mean to tell him that you're pretty and smart? And you're a science fanatic like him? Most Spiders he works with a smart (even Peter B.), yes, but whenever he starts going into the specific details of what makes up the Arachno-Humanoid Poly-Multiverse, their eyes start to glaze over.
But you - you explain everything to Miles with evident eagerness. It makes Miguel want to go up and say something, pick your brain and have his own conversation with you.
"...Now, Miles, when you want to find the density, it's mass divided by volume—" "Could you please keep it down in here? I'm feeling the reverberation of your soundwaves in the next room," Miguel says as he casually strolls up to you and Miles. "Excuse me?" You watch as this big man saunters over to the two of you. "If we're being factual, the frequency that we're speaking at right now wouldn't even be enough to be picked up from behind the door of this room." Though almost unnoticeable, Miguel's false irritated demeanor falters at your words. It was a joke. He was joking. Nonetheless, he continues walking towards the table, stealing a chair and plopping down opposite to you. "Hey!" Miles yells, almost knocked out of his chair by Miguel's hasty actions. "Relax, kid, you're fine," he hisses before turning back to you. "Miguel O'Hara" —he extends his hand, hoping that his eagerness isn't evident—"and you are?"
He basically hijacks Miles's study session with you. And, while annoyed (because physics is way harder than it sounds), Miles finds great amusement in seeing Miguel get fact-checked back-to-back.
Following your "conversation", Miguel makes more of an effort to brush up on his knowledge of science. You made him realize that he's been neglecting so much of the scientific world in favor of work.
He totally doesn't use this as an excuse to spend more time around you, though. The reason why Miguel silently observes you as you work in the lab is because he has to make sure that you don't accidentally screw something up, not because he wants to get to know you more but he's nervous and afraid that he'll say something stupid.
Oddly enough, you also bring Miguel and Miles closer together. After noticing his behavior around you, Miles goes to him, hoping that he can offer some advice.
"Look, it's a crush—no biggie!" Miles says, lackadaisically waving a hand. "I get them all the time!" Miguel doesn't say anything, only looks down at Miles from his platform. "Hey, my Uncle Aaron always used to tell me that when you like someone, you go up to them, put your hand on their shoulder and say 'Hey' really smoothly. Gotta make your voice come out like mantequilla, y'know? Makes 'em go crazy—" "Get out." "Huh? What? But tío, I'm just trying to offer some advice man-to-man—" "Get. Out." Slightly defeated, Miles turns to head for the door, mouth scrunched into a tight knob. "And that's what you're having trouble with in Physics?" Miguel adds. "A baby could do those problems!" "Hey, you got three of them wrong!" Miles calls back.
When you two finally start dating, Miguel tries his best to be the smartest, most educated version of himself. He's constantly spitting out random scientific facts or calling you to do experiments with him. He wants to impress you.
As the leader of the Spider Society, it's very rare that Miguel asks for help. He doesn't even like calling for backup when he needs it. But whenever he's working on something or needs to be reminded of what correct term to use, he calls you. You're the only one allowed in the lab with him while he's working and you're the only one allowed to pitch and test new ideas. It's a great display of trust and vulnerability on Miguel's part, given out of his trust and love for you.
He even allows you to make jokes when he messes up.
Carefully, Miguel picks up a piece of potassium with a pair of tweezers. In front of him is a row of beakers, filled with everything from water to new, colorful concoctions that he'd mixed together. He studies the potassium and then eyes the row of beakers, deciding on which one to drop the sucker in. "Cariño, come look at this, porfa," Miguel says once he's decided. You swivel around in your chair to look back at him just as he drops the potassium into the beaker of water. Before you can say anything, sparks fizzle within the glass followed by two loud pops. Miguel remains frozen in place, both in embarrassment and disbelief. He meant to drop it in the beaker next to the water. It's only when you come up and peck him on his ear does Miguel finally snap out of his thoughts. "Was that deliberate or are you just excited to see me?" you ask with a chuckle.
While you're not a fan of Miguel staying late and overworking himself, sometimes you plan dates in the lab where you two do fun, non-work-related experiments. While it's not as good as having him home and resting, you take solace in the fact that he's taking a break from work to do something fun.
Miguel dedicates himself to learning more about your favorite branch of science. Whether it's chemistry, physics, or a subfield such as acoustics, you best believe that he's going to read every book, do every experiment with you, and make sure that he understands how to better relate to you.
Likewise, you and Miguel also do a lot of biology experiments together. Even if it's something as plain as extracting and comparing DNA from different fruits, he likes to hear you prattle off facts and make observations and hypotheses.
You also use "research experiments" such as "the effects of sleep and relaxation" in order to coax Miguel into taking care of himself.
Miguel's favorite cheesy joke to make is that you two are like protons and electrons because you're a beam of positivity in his life and he, like an electron, is insanely attracted to you.
Your late-night talks are both existential and logical as you discuss how the Web of Life and Destiny bought you two together and whether or not it's a canon event, you two were meant to be.
Overall, Miguel loves you. Not just how easy it is to get lost doing something he loves but just you in general. Your brain, knowledge, face, body, how you keep him on his toes and constantly inspire him to learn and relearn—he loves all of it. And he forever cherishes you.
A/N: Once again, so sorry about the length of this! If any science aficionados would be so kind as to share some links to videos, websites, etc. that help them to better understand science, that would be much appreciated! Hope y'all enjoyed!

I need to talk about the croatian dub of both spiderverses. So here are my unprofessional opinions about everything because I watched both of the movies way too many times in the past 7 months
ITSV
Honestly, I have nothing to complain about. Voice actors nailed it. Maybe Gwen's VA bothers me a bit, but that's only becaus3 I have heard that VA way too many times in way too many differnt media and cartoons. Doesn't mean that the VA's bad, I'm just tired of her voice. Same goes for Miles, but he nails all his lines and some translation for Miles is soo funny that I forgive him everything.
Peter B. Parker has the perfect voice actor and my favorite thing is the line "ubit ću se" (which for my non-croatian speaking friends means 'I'll kill myself'). I didn't expect that and it made me laugh so hard, I sometimes just think about that scene. Anyway, the VA did everything perfect. The comedic moments were comedic, the heartfelt ones were heartfelt and he sounded so fucking done with life.
Also, honerable mentions are Spidernoir and uncle Aaron. VA's did a great job, but not anything too amazing. Translation for when uncle Aaron was dying was so bad that that scene single handedly is inspiaring me to rewritw the whole script for both movies. (I'll never do that, but I already have nickpicked how certain scenes should have been translated)
ATSV
Miles, Gwen and Peter B. Parker have the same VA (I'm not sure about uncle Aaron). Miles' spanish from the croatian VA made me physically cringe, I don't know spanish, but my ego tells me I could have done a better job. Miguel has a great VA, nothing to notible, nothing to complain about, but nothin too amazing.
SPOT is great. (I already said my opinions on a reblog). Spot has a great VA, he sounds like a pathetic loser, but he has a lot of trouble sounding menesing. If the croatian VA told me he would murder my whole family then me, I would just say 'whatever man'. Which is great for the first part of the movie, but for the second part not so much. Also, the VA didn't give it his all at certain scenes. Like 'ja sam stvorio tebe i ti si stvorio mene', great translation ("I created you and you created me), but it sounded very monotone. I should have sounded like 'JA sam stvorio TEBE. I TI si stvorio MENE' a bit more emotion was needed. Also, the echo scene is so sad. He doesn't do the proper echo like 'Jeka, jeka, jeka' it just is 'jeka. jeka. jeka'.
Hobie and Pavitr are amazing characters and the croatian dub did them dirty. I get that they need to have an accent, but it feels like we're giving them a steriotypical accent and making fun of them. Also, the casting was so bad. Hobie should have gotten a deeper voice, but no, he got a avaregly deep voice with some weird accent. Pavitr also has some weird accent and they got his voice wrong. The VA doesn't suit the character. Though, through translation we perfectly managed to capture both of their personalities. Hobie sounds like some city punk and he has the perfect slang (maybe a bit biased since I sometimes use the exact same words as Hobie. Also, it would have been interesting if he got some serbo-croatish words in his vocabulary, since he's from the 70s or something and at that time, Yugoslavia was still a country, but I digress).
Pavitr easily got the best scene ever. In croatia we don't drink chai and we don't call it chai tea, since tea is called čaj (it's simmiliarly pronounced to chai). So instead of just translating that scene they rewrote it. And instead of chai tea we have iced tea. Which is way more relatable and funny to me. Since Pavitr goes 'LEDENI ČAJ!? ČAJ JE BITAN DIO NAŠE KULTURE I TREBA SE PITI TOPLI' ("ICE TEA!? CHAI IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF OUR CULTURE AND IT SHOULD BE DRUNKEN WARM") something like that. I can't remember exactly.
But yes. I think we screwed up the second movies VAs a bit, but the translation is relatevly good. A few translations iritate the hell out of me and I verbally correct them everytime I watch the movies, but never the less, they're great. (Not as great as english translation because we don't have Jason Schwartzman and John Mullany, but never the less they're enjoyable.) I enjoy the croatian translations very much

Ooh, the Dickpoll. Dick like Tim is cursed with having a bunch of acceptable writers who also tend to have a huge gaping flaw.
Marv Wolfman: can I get spicy here? I don't really like Wolfman. Yes yes, foundational to creating Nightwing, he IS NTT - but I don't particularly enjoy NTT. I like the OTT lineup. He's also dealing with the fact a lot of his content is now 30-40 years old. Plus, when they DID give him a Nightwing run, it was the most retrospective thing ignoring almost everything that had happened to Dick since he was returned to the Bat office in 1993-1994.
Chuck Dixon: I don't think Chuck is Dick's best writer. I think he is way too heavy handed with the 'be my own man, Bruce' narrative most of the time. Despite this he also wrote Robin #13, and Dick and Bruce's conversation there, especially "That's the way it is between fathers and sons" is peak perfect Bruce and Dick. He set up pretty much everything about what is now treated by the fandom as Nightwing's 'default' situation - Blüdhaven and a good chunk of the associated rogues gallery. Also he's the architect of well-written Dick/Babs so I love him for that.
Devin Grayson: Devin shouldn't actually be allowed to write Dick as his primary writer because she loves him too much and has elaborate headcanons that contradict what other writers have written. That said, she's actually a solid writer and her runs tend to be much better when she's got other characters around to spread her attention between. She wrote Transference in Gotham Knights, after all! She wrote "Like Riding a Bike" about Dick and Donna in Batman Chronicles! Also as I've said before, part of the issue with her Nightwing run is she got royally screwed over by War Games and then Nightwing Year One right as she was trying to land the bleakest part of a whump run, and never recovered from it.
Jay Faerber: he's...fine? I think the only bit anyone seriously cares about is the Who is Donna Troy storyline.
Judd Winick: Oooh Winick. He likes writing Dick more broken than I enjoy Dick. Also I hold a grudge against him for his Batman & Robin story, when I was desperately hoping someone other than Tomasi would write bearable Dick and Damian interactions in their own title and instead we got a random Jason Todd story.
Peter Tomasi: Tomasi's run on Nightwing, particularly Freefall, has the best understanding of Dick as a character that anyone has ever written in a book titled 'Nightwing'. Fight me. Also he had the only good run on Batman & Robin 2009, a truly cursed book, blighted only by the fact nobody stopped to check basic facts about Aaron Langstrom.
Grant Morrison: uh. um. I guess Morrison was in the loop for the Dick and Tim storyline in Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul, even though pretty much all of it happened in books they weren't writing? Bottom of my list. Seriously, Paul Dini's Streets of Gotham did most of the heavy lifting initially with making Reborn Batman!Dick appealing.
Scott Snyder: Dick's characterisation in both The Black Mirror and Gates of Gotham is actually really good! He brought some really good 'team leader Dick Grayson' energy to the Batfam during a period they needed it, and he gave us back Dick and Cass having a functional relationship together.
Anyone I think was overlooked here? Hmmm. Not notably, but I'll shout out Scott Beatty, whose Dick in his Gotham Knights run was always consistently entertaining, and who collabed with Dixon for a bunch of things I think have great Dick in them (Joker's Last Laugh, Batgirl Year One, Robin Year One).

okay I just need to get all my thoughts out here because across the spiderverse?? and absolute masterpiece
SPOILERS!!!!!!! for across the spiderverse btw if you didn’t catch that /////
I absolutely loved and am blown away by just how different across the spiderverse is from into the spiderverse. I love both films so so much for very different reasons but it was so much more adult in their struggles and their problems. it wasn’t better, per se, but it was amazing in it’s own way. everything about it was amazing and I can’t even begin to imagine anything of what they’re going through. all of them.
the beginning sequence with gwen was so ANGSTY I loved how she introduced miles it was so good and then the fight with her dad was so bad I actually cried in the theatre it was that good. and then fight between MILES and HIS parents and then we find out he’s only 15?? and he’s already going through so much?? they expect so much from him but he started out as spiderman when he was 14 and he’s been living a double life since like fuck. I thought he was older than that. he’s so precious though and you can tell that the pressure if getting to him in some of the most humane scenes I’ve seen in animated media, which I am absolutely loving.
then when he found out why gwen was actually there and then AGAIN when he found out that she wasn’t trying to protect him but in fact earth-50101 because of the canon events with the cop, just the absolute BETRAYAL that he felt in that moment and how he just needed to get away and cope and deal but he couldn’t, because he was missing and can we just talk about how he found all of this out within a few hours?? like the whole movie took course over a couple of hours and we’re just expected to what. be fine with that? honestly how miles didn’t cry I don’t know.
then when miles was going through the go home machine I was on the edge of my seat bc 42?? that's not his world huh?? and then he WENT there are rio had weird eyes and then it CLICKED and FUCK it was so good what the hell and THEN when he went upstairs and uncle aaron looked at his phone it was like. shit. oh god. so THATS whats happening. and THEN, PLOT TWIST, since there's no spiderman in that universe jeff died and miles became the PROWLER but it does raise the question was he ever supposed to be spiderman? in the original universe of 42? or was he always destined to be the prowler but on a chance encounter ended up destroying the lives of so many people by becoming a second spiderman in a completely different universe?? because we KNOW that he's an anomaly and we KNOW that he wasn't meant to become spiderman and because he DID the 1610 peter parker died and he basically replaced him and screwed up 1610 because he inadvertently created the Spot(love what they did with the bagel) so. was he originally supposed to become the prowler?? in universe 1610?
and fuck how is he dealing with the knowledge that HE'S the reason that the universes are so screwed up and he can't fix it no matter how hard he tries. because what does it matter? he can't do anything. and it sucks. and now he’s stuck in another universe that isn’t his and he can’t do anything about it, he can’t even cope with any of the stuff he learnt in the past few hours because he’s got a fight to do, he’s got to fight himself and god what about jeff and rio? they don’t know anything, only that he isn’t safe, only that he’s gone and they have no idea that he’s fighting for his life, for their lives at the moment, after finding out he’s simultaneously destroying everything everywhere else. they just think he’s snuck out, they have no idea what’s going on. and they won’t find out, they can’t, because miles /isn’t there/. It’s messing with me god.
I’m actually crying though across the spiderverse was so good and incredible and I’m screaming throwing a fit throwing up it was so cool and so good and I can’t. I just. woah. holy fuck.
but also characters I loved them all and the MUSIC was so good and matched the scenes so well and the OST WAS INCREDIBLE thank you daniel pemberton for this masterpiece and the ART. the art was so good. it was incredible and outstanding and amazing and holyyyyy shit so. I loved all the different styles they incorporated and yeah all the easter eggs were so cool but the art style overall was incredible.
cannot wait for beyond the spiderverse and the story they continue to tell.
#I CANNOT WAIT FOR BEYOND THE SPIDERVERSE#I hate cliffhangers#but I'm so EXCITED WOW#it was SO COOL#and so good#and incredible#I'm freaking out it was so good I need to go and see it again ASAP#miles morales <333#and hobie brown he's so cool#I LOVE HIM#nd pavitr prabhakar he's so lovable#I'm so glad it worked out for him#I loved all the references in it too :3#it was incredible#into the spider verse#across the spiderverse#miles morales#spiderman#my favourite spiderman tbh#it was great to see peter b. again!#I missed him#glad to see he's happy though#itsv#atsv

I'm using @jaqofspades's encouraging words as an excuse to post teasers of the longer VM fics I'm working on (since they're more interested in the V/W stuff than the J/E stuff, and the latter is all I have finished because all the Veronica/Weevil fics are going to be long).
The Revenge Gambit
The laughter among the PCHers took on a darker edge at the reminder that she was the sheriff’s daughter. Veronica forced herself to ignore it, to act confident. To be like Lilly, a voice whispered in her mind, but she refused to listen. She’d do whatever she had to to beat Lilly at her own game, and she wasn’t going to be swayed now.
She shrugged casually. “I figured you’d want to piss Lilly off as much as I do, but…”
Something about his demeanour changed sharply, although he didn’t move from his casual position; the smile vanished. “What do I care about Lilly Kane?”
“I don’t know,” Veronica said. “What do you care about Lilly Kane?”
Something darker than anger flashed over his face, and for a moment she remembered all too sharply what he was capable of.
“If you want to talk privately…” she offered, trying to sound casual and not sure if she made it. Being alone with him felt insanely risky, but antagonizing him in front of his entire gang was a bad move.
And she was going to have to be alone with him either way.
“Yeah, you know what?” He reached out and grabbed her upper arm. Veronica forced herself not to flinch. “That does sound good. Let’s talk privately.” He made it sound sexual enough that the PCHers hooted and catcalled, but his eyes held nothing but threat.
The Hearst AU
“I didn’t change my locks, you know,” Weevil said, opening the door.
“Pardon?”
“I didn’t change the locks. The key you definitely didn’t copy along with the rest of them – the ones you also definitely didn’t copy even though you never need my help to sneak into the offices anymore? That key, with which you have absolutely not broken into my home on multiple occasions, usually to accuse me of assorted felonies? It still works.”
“You wound me,” she told him, pouting.
He pulled the door a little wider, stepping aside. “I think you just like me jumping up to do things for you.”
“Got to keep you on your toes,” she agreed with exaggerated good cheer.
He rolled his eyes, retreating back to the kitchen area. “Want a beer?”
“Better not,” Veronica said before she could think better of it. He stiffened a little, saying nothing, and she cursed herself, the awkwardness suddenly bringing the memory of the last time he’d offered her a beer sharply to mind.
She’d like to blame her current predicament on that, but the truth was neither of them had had more than one.
The Zombie AU (this one is lower on my list and the excerpt has almost no canon characters in it but it does exist)
There were probably worse things than weathering the actual apocalypse in a Starbucks storeroom with Peter from work and his new girlfriend, at least in the realm of apocalypses, but nothing topped it for surrealism.
Caleb couldn’t say exactly why Peter had called him over, but they’d barely had a chance to say hello before someone had climbed over the counter and started chewing on the barista’s forehead, and now they were all crouched in the back room with boxes full of flavour syrups their only defence against actual zombies.
The girlfriend, whose name might have been Jane, was freaking out about her kid, but she still had it more together than Peter, who kept muttering about hallucinogenic spores and the National Guard until Caleb had to clap a hand over his mouth so they didn’t get eaten.
*
And as a bonus, this excerpt from the Alternaverse fic, which is basically the only thing I have, because I don't want to risk contradicting myself later:
“I screwed up a lot. With Logan. With Yolanda.” She pulled a hesitant face. “You know, with Aaron.” She brushed a hand against Veronica’s arm without touching her or moving from where she was standing. “You and Duncan. With Weevil. Even my parents.” She shrugged. “But here’s the thing – I was sixteen.”
Lilly pulled back suddenly, bright as she’d always been, solemnity gone. “Oh, here – ask me how old I am.”
“Lilly…” Veronica’s voice was tight with tears. She knew how old Lilly was. She knew exactly how old Lilly was. Seeing her made her so much younger than even the memories.
“Come on!”
“How old are you?”
Lilly leaned in, somehow a few feet away and also a few inches away. “Sixteen,” she intoned in a hushed voice. Then – “Ask me how long I’ve been sixteen.”
The past nineteen years burned in Veronica’s chest. She forced out, “How long have you been sixteen?”
Lilly lowered her voice into a deep monotone, scowling intensely at Veronica. “A while.” There was a long, silent beat, and then she burst into hysterical giggles.
(Jade/Eli under the cut)
I meant to have the long depressing fic finished by now, but the 'brief summary of her worldview and their relationship breakdown' that I meant to start with is clocking in at 12 pages in Word, and I just started a new job, so... well, here's a taste of it:
It didn’t keep him off the bike, either. For a while she asked him where he was when he got home late, as if the idea of having to tell her would stop him from doing anything too awful, too permanent – or at least that the idea of lying to her would. He’d always been honest with her, at least, and Jade clutched at that as hard as she could, because surely that still meant something.
But he didn’t tell her, and he didn’t bother lying to her. “I was with Hector,” he said, or “I was with Dante,” or “I was with Arturo.” (Sometimes he said, “I was working,” and she was almost sure he was telling the truth, but there was a part of her that was absolutely terrified that working meant something different now.)
She started asking what he was doing with Hector or Dante or Arturo, and he shrugged, or he said “Riding,” or just, “Nothing important,” and Jade wanted to scream and cry, to rip at her hair, to fall to her knees and grab his shirt and beg him not to do whatever he’s doing, to not get arrested or hurt, to forget about the bad blood and the PCH and just come home to her and Valentina and stay safe, but instead she would go cold, repeat back what he said in a brittle voice, and turn away when he came to bed. (The last time he almost didn’t come home to them it was because he stopped to help someone in his truck, in the slacks and button-down he wore to his high school reunion. She knows that, she knows that, she does, but he still has choices, doesn’t he?)

There was a done-in-one issue from Jason Aaron’s Wolverine & the X-Men run which spotlighted the supporting character Doop (who originally debuted in Peter Milligan’s X-Statix run), who dedicated his spare time to covertly protecting the Jean Grey School from threats that sought to destroy it. One of said-threats was a literal gang of Nazi bowlers (because comic books...), whom Doop not only stopped while they were planning to destroy the mutant school in a bowling tournament but hilariously scared the crap out of by angrily emerging from the ball-retriever before spitting out a whole bunch of bowling balls at the bigoted losers!
I remember laughing so hard at this scene when I first read it back in my freshman year of undergraduate college!
I love how unapologetically silly superhero comics can be while simultaneously humiliating the crap out of Neo-Nazi scumbags and giving them their just deserts!
From Wolverine & the X-Men (2011) #17 by Jason Aaron & Mike Allred.

Guys Marvel never explained why the team carried Pietro onto the aircraft instead of leaving him in Sokovia, his literal home.
I would honestly be shocked if anybody in the writer's room actually considered the open ended unexplained endings of Pietro/Peter Maximoff's (or even Ralph's) character in Age of Ultron and Wandavision.
As far as I could tell, there was absolutely no reason to carry him onto the aircraft because they didn't give him a funeral or memorial or even a second mention for 6 years. They leave crumbs and then forget about them. It sucks and I hate it too but please manage expectations because they've been burning Pietro Maximoff stans for years and as you can see, its hard to break a habit.
I'm saying this not to be mean but because I genuinely don't want other people to experience the disappointment that I've been experiencing for 7 years now. It's exhausting. It's infuriating and at this point it's made me lose hope.
I find my hope in the fans of Quicksilver because they are far more respectful and dedicated to the character than anybody on the writing team in the MCU or 20th Century Fox. I've tried to build a community of Quicksilver fans and surround myself with those fans to kind of cushion the disappointment that I feel whenever a project comes out where all these rumors insist that Pietro Maximoff is coming back and then I watch the movie and there's not even a mention of him. It has happened time and time again and they have had every opportunity to bring him back, especially now that 20th century Fox is one of Disney's properties now.
Quicksilver fans, please manage your expectations and know that this has been going on for 7 years. We need to stop being at each other's throats about whether or not it should be Aaron Taylor-Johnson or Evan Peters and just unite under the fact that they screwed us both in the end.
Please be kind to one another and to all the Evan Peters fans, I see you and feel your disappointment. The way they wasted him was ridiculous. The way they ended his character by making it into a joke is infuriating. The frustration you're feeling is exactly what many Quicksilver fans felt immediately after Age of Ultron and what you're feeling in Multiverse of Madness is how we felt after Civil War. They set up to bring back Pietro Maximoff and they never did. They set up to bring Peter Maximoff and they never did. So please be kind to each other and stop fighting with each other on who is the better Quicksilver. No matter who you think the better one is, we're constantly getting screwed over anyway and we are getting angry at the wrong people.
