I was curious about what my wage and time, plus materials, would bring the cost of a foundation paper pieced and handquilted king size quilt to...and...

Okay, anyone willing to pay this amount will be enough to convince to make something this...outrageous. it'll close commissions for a year or two, and require frequent breaks so I don't burnout.

$23,800 USD.

$27× 900 hours + cost of materials (batting alone will be around $100 for high quality, 25 yards of fabric will be about what i need, i'll kill several rotary blades with all the cutting, and likely go through at least two spools of thread) = final cost

That amount of money will be what it takes to convince me to make this. If you're willing to pay for one of these now, hmu. I'll make the listing.

If you want just a king size quilt top, that's still $6150 USD. I'll need around 25 yards of fabric, a couple spools of thread (or a cone), and two to three rotary blades. This will take around 200 hours for traditional piecing. Foundation paper piecing will add another 100-200 hours easily because I have to print each section of each block, cut them out, fold along the seam lines, cut all the fabric, sew the fabric to the paper, press each seam, trim, rinse and repeat many times, sew the blocks together, remove the paper (sooooo many pieces), make the rows, and sew the rows together. So foundation paper piecing will bring the top to $11,650. For just the quilt top.

If you're 100% certain you want a king size quilt, and you're able to pay, let me know. I'll put the commission listing up for you, and promptly close commissions until further notice.

2024 art summary! it sure has been a year

#ever makes art #i bsky tweeted a bit but it feels weird talking there still so ill do my usual rambling into tags here :)c #i burned out super bad in the middle of this year for months where it felt like i couldnt draw anything good no matter how hard i tried #and the harder i tried the worst it felt - to the degree that i legitimately thought i wasnt going to be able to draw anything again #which sounds SO dramatic i know i know. but feelings arent always rational!!! and so many others things were going wrong at the same time #so it was strange putting together this year's art summary and realizing Huh. i did still have paintings to put in every space #that fear/anxiety spiral seems even sillier and more meaningless now that i have distance and proof of how irrational it was...#...but in reflection i'd like to think of it as proof that even when you feel at your worse it's worth it to keep trying...!!#after the Black Hole of Nothing i've been working every day on never ending doujin and xv anthology and orv sketchzine and merch #i can't say that i feel my artistic skills have like. improved or anything... but the passion i feel for the stories i read and #the stories i want to tell is still there!! and the happiness from getting to put form to those feelings large or small is worth it too #anyway......... lotta words to say tho i haven't posted much anymore and socmed is imploding and the world is dark #thank you very much for staying with me another year. i am - as ever - always grateful

#personal #delete later #no patrick. “black washing” is not as harmful as white washing.#come on guys get it together #seeing people in my reblogs talk about “reverse racism” and double standards is genuinely hypocrisy #say it with me: white washing is intrinsically tied to a historical and systematic erasure of poc figures literature and history.#it is an inherently destructive act that deplatforms underrepresented faces and voices #in favor of a light-skinned aesthetic hegemony #redesigning characters as poc is an act of dismantling symbols of whiteness in fiction in favor of diversification and reclamation #(note that i am talking about individual acts by individual artists as was the topic of this discourse. not on an industry-scale)#redesigning characters as poc is not tied to hundreds of years of systemic racism and abuse and power dynamics. that is a fact.#you are not replacing an underrepresented person with an oft-represented person. it is the opposite #if you feel threatened or upset or uncomfortable about this then sorry but you are not aware of how much more worse it is for poc #if representation is unequal then these acts cannot be equivalent. you can't point to an imbalanced scale and say they weigh the same #if you recognize that bipoc people are minorities then you should recognize that these two things are not the same #while i agree that “black washing” can lead to color-blind casting and writing the behavior here is on an individual level #a black artist drawing their favorite anime character as black because they feel a shared solidarity is not a threat to you #i mean. most anime characters are east asian and i as an east asian person certainly don't feel threatened or erased. neither should you.#there's much to be said about the politics of blackwashing (i don't even know if that's the right word for it)#but point standing. whitewashing is an inherently more destructive act. both through its history of maintaining power dynamics #and the simple fact that it's taking away from groups of people who have less to begin with #if you feel upset or uncomfortable about a fictional white character being redesigned as poc by an artist on twitter #i sincerely hope you're able to explore these feelings and find avenues to empathizing with poc who have had their figures #(both real and fictional) erased; buried; and replaced by white figures for hundreds of years #i sincerely hope you can understand the difference in motivations and connotations behind whitewashing and blackwashing #classic bixels “i'm not talking about this chat. i'm not” (puts my media studies major to use in the tags and talks the fuck outta it)
