Summary: you were never jackson’s best fighter, you never had to be. you were of course taught the basics of self defense, and if you ever were being attacked and it was between you or them it had to be you… every single time. you just never expected to ever have to put those skills to use… unfortunately though whenever patrol goes awry and you encountered a group of bandits you had to, making your very first kill. obviously after the event you’re left traumatized, and its up to your girlfriends to pull you from the aftermath.

Contains/TW: takes place in the tlou-verse with arcane crossover characters because obviously, innocent and super sheltered reader, i’ve seen the discourse but i AM making it to where ellie CAN pick the reader up (because fuck you that’s why! 💜), told in 1st person, polyamory, set in jackson post-joel death HOWEVER obviously ellie didn’t decide to hunt down ms. girl again. mentions of murder, blood, and just gore in general and HEAVY implications of suicidal ideation. You think at some point you would grow used to death, it was always leering. Either a subtle shadow hanging by the back door or growing to overtake the whole compound. In some cases it was merciful, swiftly ending your pain through broken pleas or just pure exhaustion. But in other cases, and the ones I found to be most common, it was known to be rather violent.

I was surprised I even remembered what to do whenever the time came. A dreaded audition it felt like as I slowly trailed Ellie’s gaze to the switchblade in my back pocket, the cold press of a gun against my temple. I don’t think I even processed what had happened until I was backing away, staring at the dead body before me and the still warm blood now coating my hands. My breathing came out in startled gasps, shrieking in traumatized fear the moment I felt her arms wrapping around me from behind.

“It’s me, baby, it’s just me.” She whispered, taking me into her soothing arms even though I tried like hell to fight her off at first leaving streaks of blood in the shape of my hands against her shirt. She only held my trembling body to her chest as I tried to hold back the sobs.

‘You made one kill. Everyone here has at least made one kill. It shouldn’t affect you this much. You’ve lived your whole life letting other people do the dirty work for you, you should be able to make one kill. One measly little kill of a man who would’ve killed you had you not acted so fast.’ I guess I was the only one left who didn’t think the world was that black and white though.

I felt catatonic as we made our way back to Jackson, Ellie’s arms holding most of my weight. I half wanted her to leave me there, leave me there to bleed and be ravaged by whatever found me first. She never would though, even if it did mean she’d have less deadweight.

Vi never was a fan of the two of us going out on patrol without her. She always considered herself our guard dog, even over Ellie who could no doubt hold her own at this point. Many nights we still spent dozing off against her while she whispered to us that we were ‘her girls.’

“Vi, emergency.” I heard Ellie speak, my head a dull weight against her chest as she carried me through the front door.

“This is the last time the two of you go on patrol without me, I mean it this time, Els.” I heard her seething as her heavy boots nearly shook the whole house. “Is she hurt? Are you hurt? What the hell happened?”

“I’m fine but she… she had to-” Ellie held the words back, not wanting to speak them in front of me as I felt my body being placed on one of the old ratty recliners. Dead eyes staring forward, like every ounce of light had been winked out a long time ago.

Vi’s own soft blue eyes drifted downwards to the dry blood coating my still shaking hands, the quickest moment of understanding filling her expression. “Oh, baby, I’m so sorry.” She murmured, the sentiment enough to bring forth a cascade of tears that I had been holding back until we were safely concealed in the walls again. “You did good though, doll, I need you to know that. You did amazing. Remember what we said, if it’s them or you it has to be you every single damn time.”

I sniffled through the ugly sobs with a shake of my head, I disagreed though I suppose I would always disagree. “She should’ve left me out there.” I finally spoke again after I had what felt like the inability to.

Quickly and without hesitation I could feel Ellie’s hand wrapping around my chin, gentle but firm as she turned my head to face her. “No, you aren’t allowed to say things like that.”

“Why not?” I shook my hand, eyes stinging and burning with tears as I watched her kneel in front of me with what looked like a wet washcloth.

“Let me get you cleaned up.” She didn’t answer me, carefully dabbing at my bloodied hands to wash all of the evidence away. Even though part of me wanted it to stay, tattoo the remnants of blood on my hands until I remembered who I was.

“Tell me why you shouldn’t have left me.” My voice shook as I repeated the question. Push until they finally said the truth. Push until they finally agreed to throw me to the wolves. Push and push and push… “I’ve been nothing but deadweight since I got here.”

“No.” Vi almost growled next, wrapping her own larger hand around my chin this time while I only stared back in defiance. “You are not deadweight, you are valuable and needed and- and we need you alive! I need you alive!”

“Darling, you don’t have to be a fighter to be important.” Ellie spoke next, much gentler than Vi had but still stern nonetheless.

It was hard to find a purpose to live in the apocalypse, I wasn’t sure where everyone found one. I knew Ellie had always had some terrible sense of self importance with the immunity. I guess over the years she had tried her hardest to transfer that to me. Some days it worked. Some days were good, amazing even. Gentle and soft days where I could dream about a world before the infection. A world I’m not sure I or Ellie ever remembered. Some days though, days like today, being reminded of that thought really changed things.

Vi had always been an ‘alive out of spite’ kind of person. Then one day Ellie and I rolled up into Jackson and turned her world upside down and shifted things for the better… that’s how she would tell it at least. She was slightly older, tougher, rough around the edges, but deep down I think she was secretly just lonely. She took us underneath her wing just as quickly as we arrived, all too happy to open her doors for us and things grew and built from there. But no amount of love or care I was given from the two was enough to cover up the fact, if I went outside of the walls something disastrous always managed to happen.

I was just simply deadweight. A bad luck charm if you will. These things never ended well.

“Baby, you’ve just had a bad day.” Vi shook her head as she took my own into her calloused hands. “That’s all it is, my love. We’re in the times of survival now, it’s kill or be killed and… I’m not losing either of you.”

I choked on another pathetic sob, hating myself more and more for every single one. Nevertheless though Vi pulled me into her, muffling the sounds of my cries into her shirt. Traumatized and shaking cries that I rarely actually allowed myself the luxury of, so whenever they came, they came all at once.

I fell asleep early that night. Vi running Ellie and I a bath to wash all of the dirt and grime from the disasterous patrol from our bodies. At some point I lost the strength to cry, but I felt like I had lost the strength to do most things. At some point over my sleeping body I had heard Ellie whispering to Vi though, to hide all of the guns, knives, switchblades, anything that could ever be used as a weapon. A mental patient in the middle of the apocalypse. Oh the irony.

“You think she would actually do something to herself?” Vi whispered in her hushed tone while Ellie gnawed anxiously at her already chipped nails.

“Yeah, I do.” She answered with a shuddering breath. “This is worse than Seattle and I- I already thought I was gonna lose her then- Vi, I’m not taking anymore chances.”

“Hey, listen, we’ll take care of her, okay? We’ve got her. We always do.”

“I hope so.” I could hear the rustling of clothes, no doubt an embrace she probably needed. An embrace they probably both needed. And I hated that I was the one who brought them there.

A moment passed and I had nearly managed to doze off again somehow in in the midst of it all just before I could feel the bed slightly dipping behind me. “Just me, you’re safe.” Ellie warned, waiting on my already exhausted muscles to relax before she slid her arms around me from behind. “I need to talk to you, okay?” She whispered against the back of my neck, my heavy eyelids fluttering open for a brief moment. “It’s okay, you can close your eyes. And you don’t have to talk if you don’t want to just… just listen, okay?”

Her fingers gently stroked soothing lines along with arms, the sensation only making my eyelids want to droop even further. “I’ve always had a- a really strong urge to protect you, Vi and I both have. A-And I think you know that. So if you wouldn’t have killed that man I wouldn’t have hesitated. He doomed himself. The moment he laid a goddamn finger on you he doomed himself. And Vi would’ve done the same thing and I think you know that too. Hell, he wouldn’t have even gotten the chance to if Vi was there.” Her fingers slid through my own, a soft yet possessive grasp.

“I know you think I gave up looking for Abby because you were reckless a-and you got hurt and you ruined things. And you were reckless, and you did get hurt but… you didn’t ruin things. You- You just changed things, for the better.” Her lips brushed against my neck, an innocent gesture though had me tilting my head to grant her more access all the same. “You saved me, baby.” She muttered, burrowing her face right into the crook of my neck as she pulled my back in closer to her chest. “I- I could’ve spent my whole life hunting that girl down, because- T-Tommy did ask me to, you know?” Her voice cracked, the feeling of small tears dripping onto my skin, a very simple way to get them to spring up into my own eyes all over again. Just whenever I thought I had been all cried out.

“You- You actually told him no?” My bottom lip quivered as I slowly twisted around to face her, just to feel her own calloused hand against my face. “But I thought you- you promised-“

“It’s not going to bring him back, love.” She shook her head, glancing downwards as if in mild shame. “But whenever you went after me in Seattle and- you got hurt…” she brushed her fingers along the jagged scar slashed into my arm that she was more or less cradling. “I know you were knocked out and you don’t remember a lot of it but… i-it really scared the fuck out of me, y-you know? Like I could lose you. I-I could really honestly lose you and… nothing is worth that, baby. Not a single thing is worth that.”

Tears swam in my eyes as she pressed her lips to the wet streaks that stained them. “You’re an angel, my love. An angel on this absolute fucked up planet and I-I pity every single person that doesn’t get to know you like Vi and I do, you know?” She briefly disconnected her hand from my face to brush away her own tears only to let it snake through my hair as she tugged me back into her chest. “You’re innocent, and you’re kind and you didn’t let any of this take it away and- I hope you never do, honestly.” I felt her chest sinking as she took in a heavy breath and held me to her almost for dear life. Like she was afraid I’d slip away the moment I let go. “No amount of self-sought fury will bring that back… I’ve tried. S-So please, I know it’s hard to find a purpose in this life but… please baby, please stay with me. With us.”

I curled up to her side, resting a heavy head right against where I could feel her heart thumping so softly. The other side of the bed dipped and while I might have flashed back to that moment briefly Ellie’s arms wrapped around me so protectively were enough to pull me back down to earth. At least for a moment.

“My girls.” Vi’s voice followed next, her arm nearly long enough to stretch over the both of us as she brought us close to her with ease. I felt my back pressing against her muscular chest as she settled down next to us, taking her usual trusty spot closest to the door as always.

It was hard to promise survival during the end of the world, even safe within the walls of a community. But for that night I at least promised I wouldn’t do it on my own accord. Someday, somewhere, something would kill me, but it wouldn’t be at my own hand.

No amount of self-sought fury will bring back the glory of innocence.

my very long, very thought out, and hopefully not the worst costume analysis on all the main/support characters on school spirits, hope you enjoy <3 (spoilers though if you havent finished season 2 and dont want spoilers dont read)(also this is like not official at all im just a random person who talks like i know things i dont)

School Spirits ; a tv shows made by paramount about a girl who maybe died and now is hanging out with all the school ghosts while her living friend, that somehow she can see, tries to solve her murder and/or save her. Its a circumstance that lends us to really creative and fun costume choices, but as its a smaller production company AND for a YA genre show, im guessing they had a bit of a shoestring budget for the costumes. But you would never know, because they did phenomenal with what they had.

Before I go further, I want to take a moment of appreciation for the creative team (sorry creative team i know yall generally dislike being mentioned but im doing it anyways because ur cool and i love costume teams <3333). per imdb, the main costume designers are Beverley Huynh and Rebekka Sorensen-Kjelstrup. The rest of the costume / wardrobe department is made up of an assistant designer Karley Schroyen, costume coordinator Fiona Roberts, asst. Costume coordinator Elysha Low, costumers Lindsay Gjertsen, Lily Quirin, Megan Kennedy, and then my favorite spot, the buyer Melissa Sharon David, who does not appear in credits but is on imdb. There is also the set supervisors but tbh im unsure why they’re listed in the wardrobe section since thats generally a stage management position, except the set supervisor, whos job it is to keep the costumes looking like they’re meant (no letting actors near it with messy snacks essentially), and thats Kayla Irwin. Also the production designer is Charlie Campbell, whose basically the one in charge of overall vision. These are the names you should think of when appreciating the costumes. if youre complaining about them though its totally fine to forget their names i'd even encourage it <3

With the people that helped make the costumes acknowledged and thanked, lets move on to their actual creations. The ghost lend more interesting analysis, but even the living students still have interesting choices made in their costuming. Order will be ghosts > crossovers > living - character by character, in time order 

Janet, 1958 - 

Janet. Where do i begin with this little menace. Probably the disconnect between her outfits and where we see her in most of the show. From the 1950s, she dresses to fit the mold. A peter pan collar, perfectly pressed. A golden sweater, for the golden child (bought or made by her grandmother ofc). The 50’s silhouette, the just begging to leave behind the shirtwaist silhouette in favor of mod (which we will get to with dawn!). She does change a few times, but shes almost always in a golden yellow top, and when shes not she is in starkly different blue and green, which we only see prior to her death, showing just how much of her was stolen in her death, reflecting what we see in the scars through clothing. Generally though, shes in yellow when around Mr. Martin. Green and blue plus red and orange makes yellow. Janet pre fire + fire, = yellow. Just an interesting notice. She looks cute in a headband i hope they put her in more next season. 

Shes a smart girl, so shes technically breaking barriers and such, but she doesn’t personally want to be doing that, just, wants to do science. And her clothing reflects this. She follows all of the rules, just, also is smart. Shes not trying to ‘break the rules of society’, and that adds a really nice juxtaposition to the ghost version of her, who very much has reached her limit and is breaking just about any rule her ghost self is able to! 

Future scientist Janet, a girl not wanting to rock the boat, that manages to naturally be so talented that she rocks the boat. Three times, in death, s1 finale, and the literal boat scene in s2. No matter how she tries she cant help but rock the boat. No matter how she tries to fit in and where the acceptable clothes, she will always have, and always wear, her lab coat. So excited to see where they take her character. 

Mr. Martin, 1958 - 

Sigh. Classically dressed for a teacher of the time. His sweaters may have been considered a bit much. But he really just leans into the socials structure and rules of the time (which make sense they died at the tail end of the first red scare so its unsurprising that he is dressing per the ‘classic american’ figure). Outside of that he kind of just looks like a generic d.c. villain. And i really don’t want to think about him too much. So im skipping him and leaving you with just what is already covered. 

Actually… maybe the mcarthyism aesthetic on him was fully intentional. Maybe that was the point. I keep looking at images and even his hair is styled that way. He is dressed in perfect propogandistic americana outfit for the time. Which could be reflective of him, a farce for a caring teacher. One that first killed his prized and favorite student and also the one holding them back from crossing over in an attempt t o study, constantly sacrificing students for his ego. Just (symbolically) like the country at the time. Interesting.  

Rhonda, 1963 -

Rhonda my darling, my television counterpart. I’ve left her for last to write about. Shes the one that brings me the most difficulty to analyze. Its like looking in a weird mirror. Am i a bit baffled we didnt get a proper mod 60s ghost? Yeah. I can make due though. 

Rhonda’s got a very serious shell. Shes from a time of chaos, and had one of the most world shattering deaths, only doubling down on the need to have a shell, to protect herself. And as she manages to find her way back into trusting people, letting them in, letting the shell lapse, she will probably either lose bits (say the hat) or just change clothes, add things on with more color, like the lollipop. She wants to connect, deeply, but shes been burned too many times. And shes self aware of this. She knows its all a performance to keep herself in a bit of a bubble. In a way i think she would really get along with claire over this, xavier as well. 

Additionally, she was mourning. Herself. Her friends. She thought everyone hated her, that they thought she brought it on herself. It took multiple steps, including her accidentally summoning a (to be)girlfriend, and then said (to be)girlfriend going the extra mile to prove to her that, no. they blamed themselves, her killer, but not her. And with that, she was able to get back one thing that was crucial to her living - music. What is a beatnik if not writing poems if not in a basement listening to people tell stories and then writing about that. And she now feels like she can get that back, without a crippling guilt or pain always there to creep up behind her. Because shes heard the second verse now. And maybe just maybe we’ll see more of a ‘greaser’ version of her (pink jacket), one with a bit more confident and creativity to her, now that she knows she can let it back in. which will hopefully be the start of her letting others back in and being on her merry way to crossing over (but not before we get some sapphic time please)

Dawn, 1972 - 

I’m fairly certain Dawn only has one outfit, so this will be entirely about that one, its also one of the ones i’ve seen off set so I can judge on materials and stuff as well :). Dawn is a hippie. No question about that. But notably, shes a hippie in the tail end. Shes holding onto it. From 1974 on the style just about flickered out of popularity, almost like dawn was the start of the end (not literally but symbolically). Her outfit is also one of the least time accurate on the show, but i can let it pass (still time accurate but if we were going for iconography of the time shes not in it). 

Shes got a lovely bright orange pair of pants on, they’re very much a modern pair and not a then pair but this is not a historical so it doesn’t matter they’re cute. You never really see it in the show but shes got a white longsleeve crop shirt on, but it has a little blue design in the middle of it, which can be seen on the actresses tiktok. I think they just ended up liking the monochrome orange on her so they block that part of the shirt. Then an orange fringe vest and an orange bandana on her head, paired with her orange hair. We are clearly going with the color orange to symbolize the 70s. 

Dawn, in life and death, just floating about. Just having a good time. Being a sweetie, but not thinking too hard. The inverse to rhonda in a way (who is thinking and only being friendly to a point). In death she just wanted to be appreciated. To be seen. And her highlighter orange represents that, and when she is seen, she leaves a trail of highlighter orange flowers. To forever be seen, to be left floating about, bringing joy for eternity via little flowers. 

Yuri, 1977 - 

Time to talk about our resident stoner. Yuri, who kept up a con of not talking to anyone for damn near 40 years, only top give it up when a cute guy walks in. adore it. Lets see if i can connect that to his costume.

He is quite literally just in jeans and a long-sleeve. I have no idea if there is any design on the shirt, because his lovely apron covers it. It works great for the con, and he does get to spend all of his time just making things out of clay, which is very much great for him (as he is a lover of making things out of clay). I do unfortunately think that yuri has the same fallpoints Quinn does, in that we just don’t know enough in order to properly dissect him. 

But, if i were to reach, as someone who spends all his time at the pottery wheel, making things, he is good at molding people. Helping people become what they are. A character fully dedicated to helping others, building up others. Im sure theres also aspects of ruining them, as you restart projects or reuse their materials, but we have yet to see that. I’d anticipate that the path we expect Yuri to go down in the future is exploring how to create himself. Who he is when not creating. What his self worth may be when separated from his creations, and the impact that will have emotionally on him. 

There’s an aspect to Yuri that is very messy, unfinished. Not as an insult but in a way of, forever being worked on. An unfinished project. He really is like the embodiment of pottery which is so cool and odd well done to everyone involved there. There’s also a separation though - a using of the clay to separate to put a line between. In so many scenes his arm is covered in clay. He hides away in it, avoiding, everything. Theres something to that and I hope they explore it. 

Wally, 1983 -

Ah waldo. Wal… idk i havent come up with fun versions of his name like roriculous(rory williams/pond) yet, i will though. His costume was the one to spark this whole idea, something about the stupid simplicity of a sweat set really got to me. Also really want to see it on Ruby Cruz but that just me being really gay. 

Wally. 80s jock football player turned absolute teddy bear. And they managed to visually address that. By just taking off the football uniform, and putting milo in that fuck ass sweat set. Im tempted to not even write anything else, it just gets to the point so well. What else is there to say, rehash the scene with charley, the scene at the start with maddie telling him how to flirt with her? Ive never seen a character more perfectly represented by their costume. AND ITS SO SIMPLE. Like. costume dept yall really did so good with this. 

Everything we see him wear; outside of the uniform itself; is soft. Soft hoodies, soft armbands. They’re all fuzzy and fluffy. The uniform itself is, plastically, it has a metallic shine. Completely opposite of everything else we see him in. Just like how he has truly grown. He has shaken the bad societal taught aspects of his personality and become the living (dead) teddy bear that we all know him to be. But he still knows how to be a big bear. Protecting his friends, using his bear-ness (go with the metaphor please) in the scar to block and protect Charley, nearly repeating his death events. Hes such a fun character i adore him so much. I’m really glad they got a theatre boy for his actor, it adds that perfect angle to make it believable. 

Mina, 1987 - 

I’m going to say too much about her and you’re not going to believe me unless you also have worked in a theater. You’ve been warned <3

Mina, our lovely little catwalk ghost. She’s been in what, one scene? Two? Regardless, i love her. To start - a moment to learn. Stage lights are really fucking heavy and bulky. They’re on average like a foot tall, about 15 pounds at lightest. Heavier in the 80s. Additionally, they go about 100 feet up. And safety cables? Only added around the 80s. I’d imagine the school cheaped out and didn’t get them, leading to Minas death in 87. She has a line about someone not tightening it or something but that is quite literally what the safety cable is for - just in case. 

Her death outfit is one of the coolest fits you could wear as a techie. Shes got every damn tool she could need. Truly that outfit is incredible for her job. Every theatre has a joke or rumor about a ghost, one that protects or takes care of the theatre. And you take them seriously, just to be safe. Shes a great representation of that. As someone who spent many an hour in the catwalks of my schools theatre, they did her perfectly. And im glad shes out looking over the rest of the students, i appreciate her fictional self. Luv her and her techie fit <3 (also note - her hair is up. Who on the crew designed her shes perfect i love her)

Charley, 1995 - 

CHARLEY, what a lovebug. I adore charley. I already covered him a touch in the og post about this; but - charley fully exists within the 90s vibe, and the way the oversized clothing that was all the rage at the time ends up existing as a way to showcase how in death, he learned how to take up space. To be himself. That he can be loved while being himself. To be fully himself. 

The classic 90s oversized boxy t-shirt. Tucked into the also oversized bulky jeans, with the bulky cuff. Big glasses. Big denim jacket. His eyebrows!! Even his hair is reaching for the sky! Everything about Charley is trying so hard to take up space. But as we know, he wasn’t able to do it in life. The scene of his scar, himself being his biggest hater. He seems to hate how much space he wants to take up. Hates how instinctively he takes it up. But in death, thanks to the other ghosts, he becomes a version of himself that he lets, happily, take up that space. He becomes the first ghost to talk to maddie, quite literally putting himself out there as much as he possibly could, being the first to talk to the new girl. 

Then we see him start to fully step into that, fully learn to trust himself and love himself, enough that he is able to (like rhonda) basically summon himself a boyfriend. Its like the school gave him a lil present for the character growth. But essentially we get to see him not only realize this aspect within himself (learning to take up space) but he also begins to help Yuri with it as well, or at least begins to help Yuri, exist, as a ghost, rather than just a life locked away in a tower (greenhouse). 

Quinn, 2004 - 

Y’all quinn is only ever in the band uniform. So all i can really do is address within that context… so, forgive me if this one is shorter. 

Quinn, after dying on the bus for a band event, stuck playing on the grounds with the rest of the band. Only awoken when a pretty girl (Rhonda) screams and begs for them to wake up. (star crossed lovers if i’ve ever seen it). Clearly much of Quinn’s perception of herself is based on being in the band, being part of it, one of many making up a larger group. Just switched out band for being a member of the scooby doo squad. I want to attribute the blue to quinn just being a soft and sweet person, but i worry im reaching with that, as its just the school colors. Shes just a little band dork idk i love her but we just don’t know enough about her yet I don’t think. 

But, in an effort to reach regardless, Quinn being stuck in the band uniform is similar to wally being stuck in his football uniform - they both threw their lives into these orgs, wally for others, but as far as I can tell, Quinn for herself. Quinn was very quiet and slow to join the group, maybe in band she was able to pretend to not be real, similar to how they still remain essentially frozen. And in breaking out of that, and joining the other ghosts, she realizes she can be as loud as her instrument herself, be that much. Similar to charley, in finding himself and taking up space. Her hair is kind of reflective of this as well, with the ends being curly and voluminous and her bangs laying flat, like she wants to be voluminous but is used to staying within her marks. Its guesswork but I think its text supported.

Maddie - 

Our lovely lead <3 i still really dont get the hair choice ; but i’ll do my best. I tried to notice during the show if this outfit was a one off, or if maddie dresses like this daily, and honestly, I don't know, despite actively trying to figure it out. Which means most likely - maddie just really doesn't care about clothing, about presentation. Shes the natural opposite to Claire in that way, which parallels nicely to their childhood flashbacks, maddie saying no because everything was already a mess but claire having to let down the facade to ask for help. 

Simple camisole, red flannel (proper flannel not the thin ones that does matter; she knows quality clothing shes not shopping fast fashion), black jeans. A real basic and simple combo for a basic day of school. It sets Maddie up in the first episode to just be a normal teenage girl, albeit, one going through a lot. I mean, shes dead after all. 

Im certain the bob means something. Its such a particular bob. Not french length, not shoulder length, its not even jaw or chin length. Its like she badly cut it herself the week before (only the week before because any more before and it would be longer). Maybe shes growing out a pixie? Im just very perplexed by that choice.

But yeah, the core of her costuming is just to solidify how normal / kind of sad she is as a person (as in emotion). Shes busy taking care of so many others that she forgets to take care of herself. Its literally her scar, throwing herself away to save others that can’t be saved. Hers is one of the most on-the-nose costumes, but thats because shes the main character. 

Simon - 

Simon is always (for what we see on the show) going thru it. He does not have time to think about his clothes that much; and yet - hes always dripped out. Hes got very good style. Its simple and subdued, but very nice. Linens, soft natural fabrics. A man of taste. 

I want to focus on the jacket he wears sometimes, hes a very practical guy. A warm jacket, a jacket ready for just about any weather. Snow, rain, wind, anything. Which is very reflective of him as a character. He is very level headed, very stable, reliable, a guy who can handle just about anything you throw at him. Just about. Which is where the little white fur bits on the collar come in. that stuff is GREAT when its cold. Its also icky as hell when its wet. You touch just the wrong nerve, push him just tooo far, and he will crash. He will snap, he will become that sticky-static-gross that sherpa gets when wet. However. When it dries. Its good to go again! Back to ol reliable. Just him when he lost it for a minute there when he thought he was hallucinating Maddie. 

He actually has multiple of these, it seems. A brown/black and a red, at least. Im going to take the two as an indicator of/for the finale and how S2 ended. How he would be the 2nd. How he would be the next to exist both within the living and among the dead. 2’s all around. I really don’t know the order he wears them in, which would be very helpful, but theres something there about having red so clearly on him, marking him as the heart and soul of the show. Someone with so much love that it bleeds onto his clothing. The black jacket representing him trying to not be such a caring guy but failing dramatically (thankfully, since its part of what makes him so lovable). 

Xavier - 

I mean how much is there to say about a grumpy emo boy in grumpy emo boy clothes. They have him dressed like a modern day dean winchester (which is funny and fitting because one of his previous co-workers played young dean for a bit there; degrassi fans im sorry for the sad-jumpscare with that one). But if I must be serious (and I must I know myself) ; 

He’s never in less than three layers. Thick layers at that. He really doesn’t let people in. Always in dark clothes, always trying to hide himself. This is extra obvious when paired with the nicole-band-secret-texting situation. Even when hes being himself hes still hiding himself. Its likely what caused him and Claire to even bond in the first place, both constantly hiding their problems in corners. He’s not putting any effort into his styling. Except he is. He has perfected the art of looking like hes not trying - i’d assume because his dad would chastise him for trying. 

Even the fact that he hardly blinks ends up being a costuming choice, because his open eyes are just present at all times. Hes both always thinking and never thinking. Ever presently detached from his body. Which only comes to matter more towards the end of season 2, with him literally acting as the go between, being able to separately see the living and dead. The non-blinking-ness turned into symbolism for his existence in between the two planes. Not dead and yet not living. Forever stuck where things ended, when maddie ended. I really do love his character, and i’m happy to see people coming around to his grumpy ass. Not to be classic but I do think hes a classic example of an onion style character, layers on layers. So many layers that he has found himself as the conduit between not only life and death, living and dead, but locations. He is how we will know about other ghosts. Hes connecting them to a larger map. 

Nicole - 

This is the first living student I am working on, which means they have purchasing power! They have multiple outfits! More to analyze. Nicole is always seen in bright colors, big fabrics. She similarly to Charley likes visually taking up space. Unlike Charley, she is also very confident and is able to do that in her life as well. She often catches hate from the audience, due to her very large personality (frankly y’all are too mean in general towards her shes only mildly annoying). Practical clothing, despite the patterns. Almost always jeans and a sweater. Shes a girl with a plan, and shes gonna make sure she can do it. 

I think there’s a balance to Nicole, one that without Maddie is off. And i think thats emphasized in the clothing choices. With simons simple, subdued clothes, and Nicole's bright and loud clothes, Maddie's dark and grumpy-ness balances all of that out, rounds out the group. The same likely applies in their personalities, with Maddie normally being the glue between them (thank god for xavier taking that place a small bit). Theres generally a bit less to analyze with the living because well, they are still figuring themselves out, whereas the ghosts have mostly had decades. 

Nicole wants to care. She wants to help. But she can get in her own way with that. (blue covered in brown outfits multiple times, muting her own personality + care) Think about when you wear something just a bit too bulky or just too large and you lose the ability to move your arms right. I think that happens to her. Inverse of Charley almost. She doesn’t know how to contain all of her personality, much less direct it in the way she wants to. She’s really funny so im trying to find a tie in with the clothes but im not finding one. Its there. I just can’t see it. 

Claire - 

Claire loves purple. Shes always in it. Like nicole, attention is something she knows how to command. Like Charley, it might not be done intentionally. She looks as if she tends to just pick cute and comfortable clothes, little thought going in to how others would see it. (she just has good taste; paired with the way she acts, shes doing it for herself not others). The whole way she treats being on the cheer squad and all seems like a self aware performance. She knows shes always performing for others, so she just, is gonna do it well and on her terms, type of thing. Even her hair and makeup - its like the inverse of Mr martin. Shes not ‘following’ any of the classic ‘cheerleader’ rules. Big eyeliner, big eyeshadow, shes gonna be herself and damn anyone that stops her. Unless they're dying, ofc, because shes an absolute sweetheart at heart, just with a bit of a tough exterior (except not really, as can be seen with her eyeshadow. its big, but its soft and glossy). If anything, I think shes the most emblematic of a classic ‘2010s’ or ‘2020s’ style, which actually concerns me. She’d have a VERY interesting death plot if they were to go there.  

Claire is like the only fully put together member of the living characters, and I think that aspect of her clothing is very reflective of her personality. She’s not originally in the friend group. Shes from a different area of the school, basically. And visually, per her clothing, you can tell that. She dresses like a ~normal person~ insta account. Shes holding all of her together with the visuals. Hiding all the bad. Hiding any issues she may have behind a perfectly crafted outfit. And she does it very well. She is incredible at hiding her difficulties. And i would imagine that that will end up being part of where her story goes as (assuming) the show continues.

skizzpulse: needed to write about this because I don’t ship them at all but something is deeply weird about them in a way that is neither platonic or romantic. They have transcended human definitions of Relationship to me. No they’re not a QPR either. They’re weirder. Whatever you’re thinking they’re weirder. Do not separate. Attached at the hip.

etho: etho is in a realm of his own where I simply can not ship him. he’s not doing the romance. he’s not doing the qpr. he’s not doing shit. And it’s not because he can’t pull bitches; he is swagless and a loser in a way that brings ALL the boys to the yard (as opposed to Grian who is similar except he can’t pull anyone), he’s simply getting weird with it. He walks right past any sort of relationship into something deeper; resident sopping wet animal. aro/ace also but this isn’t nearly as relevant as the autism

cubscar/convex: favorite hermitcraft ship and it is not even close. It is NOT EVEN CLOSE. in the way scarian are both covered in lighter fluid and holding matches, convex are also doing that except it’s become a game of who can set the other on fire without being lit up themselves, and they’re both having the times of their lives (ends with both of them on fire every time without fail and it’s usually scar’s fault). they’re insane about it. the vex shit???? insane. their minds are beautiful and deeply wrong. I think they should kill each other.

solidaritimes: I will never forgive Scott smajor for separating scar and Jimmy in secret life he has no idea what he took from me. In a world where Jimmy is often the butt of the joke (by his own volition, I understand) the sheriff deputy thing was fucking beautiful. Sunshine and rainbows, love and support and adoration and everything good and healthy. A massive breath of fresh air and easily my favorite part of the hermitpires crossover. They mean everything to me. I’ve never seen such losers be so in love. Failgirl power.

redscape: another banger. These guys are GOOFY and I think Scar hits a magical combination of being Completely Exasperating vs Setting Off Mumbo’s Bullshit Radar which makes them bounce off each other in a lot of fun ways. They are versatile as a couple between banter and shenanigans and dedication, it’s a pairing I generally think of as very healthy and fun and if you also like all of these things don’t read my Boatem Ghosts AU because I make redscape awful and Mumbo pays the full price! Whoops! I love to think about them falling fast if I am writing them as romantically/sexually inclined characters, where Scar is frustrating but at the same time charming and silly in a way that draws Mumbo in. Mumbo on the other hand challenges Scar and chips away at his facade in ways he finds exciting. I like a Scar that wants to prove himself to Mumbo, win him over, where Mumbo is just lightly exasperated about the whole thing.

cleo/cub: probably the only pair on this list that I think are friends normal style. I just really adore normal style friends cleo and cub feuding about their museums so I had to tell you. I need to write them as friends more often. I love thinking about cub helping cleo fix up her stitches as well as other maintenance on their body. guys who nudity doesn’t matter to they’re both just chilling with their shirts off. special platonic dynamic to me.

ranchers: I don’t care about ranchers

moonrot: I don’t normally ship cleo and pearl in most of the smps or whatever. However. The specific dynamic they have in my boatem ghosts au makes me a little insane I really like them together. Pearl is a little bit deranged in her Wanting Revenge On Scar but ougghg that pirate scar’s hanging out with… she’s so cool… and then Cleo brings them to the ghost island and Pearl thinks she’s even cooler cleo is So Awesome ougghggh and then she gets worried because Scar is a Ultra Murderer TM so she’s quite protective over Cleo and doesn’t like Scar being around them AT ALL but her ass is dead so she’s not doing shit about it. The pining once Scar is out of the picture is Out Of Control. I should write a one shot about this.

ethubs: I think this is the only ship I can honestly say has ever been too weird for me. I think they’re deranged in a way that makes my skin crawl. I am deeply afraid of them. They’ve never kicked it normal style in their lives. I look at them and I don’t know what I’m seeing. It scares me. I respect this ship deeply and leave freshly slaughtered sacrifices at an altar once a week in a hope that will be enough for ethubs to leave me alone.

My dear friend @rainintheevening recommended it to me, and I'm so glad she did! I wasn't even 20 pages in before I looked up from the page and went, "Ohoho, this book was definitely written for me!"

Charley Sutherland has always had the ability to read characters out of books and into real life. But when Uriah Heep, the villain from David Copperfield, begins to cause trouble, his older brother (who is perfectly ordinary in every way) will have to go to great lengths to help him out of his predicament.

Umm...maybe like a 4? Rob is a very normal kind of guy, and while I'm not a lawyer like him, most of the things he does are fairly ordinary, all things considered. (Well, it's not an ordinary situation at all, but I mean he doesn't have hidden magic or anything.) There's nothing particularly special about him except the lengths he's willing to go to for his brother. And I'd like to think I would do the same for my siblings if need be.

12. assuming your loved ones would be there, would you want to live in the world of the story?

YES. A world where I could potentially meet my favorite characters from beloved stories? Yeah, okay, some of the more unsavory characters show up too, but...like...I could have tea with Dumbledore. I could share crunchings and munchings with Gurgi. I could hang out with Pippi Longstocking! Maybe I could even give Kaladin Stormblessed a hug :')

Funny you should ask, because I've got several ideas floating around in my head that I could actually make a reality if I just sat down and took the time! The first AMV idea I ever got, years and years ago, was one set to "Memories" by Within Temptation.

11. if you were put in the main character's position, how well would that go for you on a scale of 1-5?

Lol. 1. I would die immediately. I don't have a head for numbers or science, so I would probably be horrible at alchemy. Even if I somehow got clap-alchemy from the Truth (though how I'd be able to manage human transmutation to get that far is anyone's guess), I would fail miserably to do the things Ed does, because I am very flabby and weak and cowardly. Also I don't think I would have the gumption to do half the things he does, like pushing through the pain of automail surgery. Yeah, sorry, the world is doomed if I'm put in Ed's place.

12. assuming your loved ones would be there, would you want to live in the world of the story?

As much as I adore this story, I think I'd actually say no. There's so much danger and war on every side, and I don't much fancy the thought of losing my soul to a whirling vortex (even if my soul does get put back!). I've already laid out how I wouldn't be an alchemist, so there wouldn't even be that to compensate. Maybe I'd visit after it's no longer a fascist military state, though.

14. how likely do you think this story is to break a reader's heart? If you're not done with the story, just guess.

I'm biased, but I think it's pretty much guaranteed. If your heart doesn't break at least a little bit at a certain little girl and her dog, I'm not sure you have one. And there are so many other parts where I cried really hard, not least at the ending of the first anime. All I wanted to do after I finished it the first time was lie in my bed, staring at the ceiling and trying to figure out how to carry on with my life ^^'

15. what time are you most likely to be found reading/watching this story? (time of year, time of day, season of life, whatever makes sense to you)

ALL DAY ALL THE TIME.

Lol, that would have been my answer in my teenage years, but admittedly my attention has strayed to other fandoms more recently. I'm still down to read/watch FMA anytime at the drop of a hat, but these days I'm most likely to dip back into it this time of year, because I always try to have something to post for FMA Day on October 3rd. (Which reminds me, I need to get cracking on that D:)

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

what got you into this story?

I guess you could call it peer pressure, kinda? I just kept hearing people praising it over the years, until finally I decided I should probably see what all the fuss was about, rather than just writing it off as Not For Me because I decided that back when I was eight or something. And once I did start reading, it didn't take long for Anne to win me over ^_^

16. do you think this story has broad appeal, or is it meant for a very specific audience? if it's more "niche", what kind of person would most enjoy this story?

I do think it has broad appeal, though I'd still say it's not for everybody. Clearly, Baby Novie decided it wasn't for her because there wasn't enough high adventure in it. I think most people would be able to find something relatable or at least enjoyable about it, but some people might need to wait until they're mature enough to appreciate its merits ;)

17. compare this story to your usual tastes. how does it differ from what you've already enjoyed?

I usually prefer books with more fantastical elements in them, or at least adventuring, and that was especially true when I tried to read this book as a kid. I will certainly read the occasional historical fiction about ordinary, everyday ups and downs, but even so, I'm usually more inclined to reach for something like Austen or Dickens that has a more complicated, twisty-turny plot.

18. compare this story to your usual tastes. what parts of it are exactly the kind of thing you've always loved?

I'm actually kind of surprised this was never assigned for school, because it feels a lot like the kind of book I read a lot, and probably one I would have enjoyed more than some of the other stuff we had to read. If I'd only made the connection that it takes place around the same time as the Mandie books, I probably would have really latched onto it (even though Anne isn't about mysteries), because that was my bread and butter for several years as a kid. And Anne of Green Gables would have been much less embarrassing to return to as an adult ^^' Another element that is common to many stories I love is how friendship is treasured so highly.

Half Magic by Edward Eager

8. what questions are or were you most excited to learn the answers to while experiencing the story for the first time?

Oh man, it's been so long since the first time I read this book, I can't really remember. Especially because I was never really an "active reader" as a kid. I never stopped to ask questions, I just inhaled stories, and whatever happened in it, that was how it obviously had to be ^^' And by now, I've read the book so many times I know it back to front, and there aren't really any more questions that I care about.

At a guess, though, I might have wondered where the talisman came from and where I could get one :P

This book teaches you about fractions :)

Uhhhh...I really don't know. Probably some kind of instrumental track, maybe piano? And it would just be a montage of the whole story, I think.

I'd say a 4 or a 5. I'd like to think I'd do pretty well at remembering not to say "I wish" out loud as much as they do, but that's never how these things go. But most of the times I say that, it's usually just things like "I wish I could remember..." or "I wish I knew why..." And I don't see how the consequences of that kind of accidental wish could be too dire XD

12. assuming your loved ones would be there, would you want to live in the world of the story?

A THOUSAND TIMES YES. How many times did I daydream about what my siblings and I would do if we got a wish-granting adventure like in the books? It might be a little annoying to have to put up with 1920s America or whenever it's supposed to be, but...wish-granting talisman. Come on.

The Little Riders by Margaretha Shemin

what got you into this story?

This was assigned for school. I don't remember when exactly that was, but I think it was a read-aloud rather than one I read to myself, so maybe first or second grade? And I just remember it being one of the books that stood out to me amongst all the others.

3. quickly list 3 things you like about the story!

It offers a unique perspective on WWII, humanizing the Nazi soldiers when most of the time, we're all content to just think of them as nothing but monsters.

It's tense and exciting - will the soldier find the little riders?!

Illustrated by Peter Spier, a staple of my childhood picture books!

19. pitch an idea for a sequel or spinoff novel for this story!

What about a parallel story about the soldier's family? What was their experience like during the war?

20. what's the WORST thing about this story, in your opinion? (feel free to be positive, e.g. "it's not longer", if you want!)

Okay, yes, I could definitely do with a longer version of this book. I would have liked more exploration of Johanna's experience of being an American girl growing up in Holland with her grandparents. Did she have culture shock at first? Does she feel more at home in Holland now? For the lack of exploration they do into her unique situation, I almost think it would have been better to just have her be a Dutch girl who's lived in Holland all her life. The extra details of her father being in the U.S. Navy kind of feels superfluous.

I think my default answer is yes- if you write a thoughtful comment, I'd like to write back. If you ask me questions, I'd like to answer them. When I first started writing Fieldwork and it got popular, I was Too Concerned with where it was compared to other works and where it was when sorting by various metrics and I remember being annoyed that a particular author's 'sort by comments' was skewed because they responded to every comment, so their comments were twice as many as they 'should' have been... but thankfully I grew out of that lol. That said, I've kind of gotten back into not responding because for a while, they were almost always about the end of Fieldwork and I felt guilty for n ot finishing it for so long and I didn't want to get people's hopes up, and now that I've finished it, I have several emails hanging out in my folder of comments I meant to reply to after the final chapter was posted that I just keep putting off.

No. I don't really get into crossover ships?

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I used to? When I was a virgin lol. I have since realized that I am very ace and idk, there's something about reading my old smut and realizing all the stupid things I put in there that makes me nervous about 'getting it wrong'? I would certainly need to have lots of plot and character development AROUND the smut if I were to write it again at all. I'd much rather go the fade to black route. idk, something about other people knowing what goes on in my head when it comes to sex is uncomfortable.

What's your all time favorite ship?

From a Known Media Property? Korrasami's the only one I've ever really been invested in.

But my actual favorite is probably Ryfika- my NPC and @rhapsody0607's paladin from our D&D game. Sun and moon, soft and tough, we even accidentally made them red and blue lol

What's a WIP you'd like to finish but probably never will?

I guess the only one that really qualifies is Don't You (Forget About Me). I did finally finish Fieldwork. I'm still slowly adding to IDoD Begins and IDoD Returns (those are the logs from our D&D game). Fieldwork Unlocked, Korra Don't Be A Hero, Against the Dying Light, and I Can't Make You Love Me are all (I think) as done as they were ever going to be and Secret is never going to be updated (I actually forgot it existed). DYFAM is the only one that is unfinished that I might want to continue.

What are your writing strengths?

I think world building is one. I'd like to think dialogue is another, but I don't know if anyone who read my work would agree lol

What are your writing weaknesses?

I wish I wrote more often. I wish I were more descriptive and evocative with my writing. I have to make a conscious effort to include descriptions and movements within long dialogue-heavy scenes and to beef up my descriptions with emotional connections.

What's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet, but want to?

idk? I think if I wanted to, I just would? Nothing has really drawn me in the way Korrasami did and I'm not sure it wasn't just a one-off thing for me because I was working through my own shit through the fic.

I've never done a fic rec list before but A Meal to Remember seemed like a good opportunity to start. In no particular order.

One of our reportes is missing by angstosaur. IWTV crossover with The Newsreader. Rated M. Louis/Lestat/Armand, Helen/Dale, Dale/Tim, Helen&Tim.

Louis sees Dale Jennings on the News and travels all the way to Australia to figure out what the hell Lestat is up to now. Obviously the logical way to go about this is break into the guys appartment and kidnap him.

This is just the best thing I've read in ages. The epic clash of firmly rooted in reality Newsreader and 'consequences aren't real if you're immortal' vampire world should not work as well as it does and it's a real joy to read. I particularly loved how beutifully the relationship between Tim and Helen was handled, as well as Louis getting to know Dale and seeing a lot of similarities between them I didn't expect to be there vs the chaos thrupple at peak insanity being generally horny and incompetent. It also has one of the greatest entrances of a character I've come across in a long time.

Renaissance by siahatha. Post canon. Rated M; Louis/Lestat

Louis and Lestat trying to make their relationship work in the modern day after Lestat spend a few decades in therapy. Louis still has some ways to go in that regard.

Deals a lot with Lestat's mania and Louis eating disorder. Also involves some genderfuckery.

Something about this one just really grabbed me. There are a lot of really cute moments that just show really well why Loustat are so great when they work and the heavy moments scatch that itch of 'why can't they just talk to each other' by putting them in a place where they can do that while still being true to their characters.

The famous Ethics Professor Louis fic. I tend to think of it as the Philosophy Student Armand fic but, eh, semantics.

So much fun to read and such a great set up. Strikes the perfect balance of keeping the characters who they are, especially with regards to Armand and his trauma, while toning the insanity to levels that wouldn't get them institutionalised in the real world.

And what I thought was gone by @nalyra-dreaming. Reunion fic. Rated E; Louis/Lestat.

Basically the part of TVL between Lestat putting out Rock videos and Louis coming to him from Louis perspective, set the amc universe. And then the reunion.

Nalyra has such a great way of getting into these character's heads. The journey from Louis thinking Lestat is still dead to realising he isn't to getting his hands on the videos and the book to finding him to them talking things out is so beautiful and emotional.

The Human Perspective by @bandedbulbussnarfblat. Part 1 of The Human Condition series. Rated T; Daniel/Armand.

Armand talks to Daniel about a mortal he once loved, whose memories he had to take so he could live a life.

Another one that hit me right in the feels. The longing! The dramatic irony! Having Daniel comment as an outsider on his own relationship is such a clever thing to do and very well executed.

Human AU. Rated E. Louis/Lestat.

Just Louis and Lestat being Louis and Lestat really. And Claudia. But make it human.

That is really the best compliment I can give: If those two were modern day humans this is what their relationship would be like: chaotic, toxic, destructive, co-dependent, full of issues, hang ups, addictions and love bordering on insanity. And brilliantly done, too. Pretty much all the trauma is acounted for and makes sense (in a human context), we get differnt POVs all perfectly in character and each giving interesting insights into their family and the different issues they run into over the course of their relationship.

I don't know if you have Netflix or not, but they recently put a show on there called Resident Alien starring Alan Tudyk and I highly recommend it. If you've ever seen 3rd Rock from the Sun, this is kind of like that but more sinister but equally as funny.

I have built a little shrine around my OP DVDs and it's too small to hold all of these future purchases, so I'm trying to figure out where to put them all. In the meantime, when the non-pre-ordered figures come in, I'll share a photo of the shrine. I don't know why I have a hankering for Shanks recently but now Gildarts from Fairy Tail has suck up on me. I do like Marco and I want at least 1 Sabo figure because I like having Luffy's most important people (Zoro, Shanks, and his two bothers).

I don't really know what else to distract you with, um, I had an idea for a One Piece/Fairy Tail crossover one-shot. For some reason, yesterday at dinner this idea popped into my head and had me grinning like an idiot which alarmed my dad. What if, the FT peeps ended up in the OP world for reasons not important to the story so I won't ever have to get into it, and Cana decided now would be a good time to try setting her dad up on a date. Dude has been single her entire life (with a string of unsuccessful short flings that never amounted to anything [the wiki says he was with 13 other women post-divorce]) and she decides to set him up with somebody.

Now, this could go two ways. I could have this be a canon character x canon character or OC which would be the hard way and not nearly as funny as I want it to be OR I could make it canon character x reader thus allowing for the shenanigans. I was thinking of having the one-shot be Gildarts x Reader with him having already met someone and begun dating her but keeping it quiet because he didn't know how Cana would react. Then, when Cana announces how she thinks he should meet someone and kind of sidelines him, Reader plays along because she has to keep up the ruse of them not dating. So the READER sets Gildarts up on a date with a hot, young doctor lady.

And I just thought it'd be hilarious to do that to Gildarts.

The only other idea I have of a simple crossover would be Gildarts and Shanks meeting and upon realizing they kind of look similar, the two hang out in the bar and start comparing how similar they are to each other and then it becomes a contest of who is cooler. Shanks thinking he's so cool because he's maintained his power as an Emperor of the sea despite having only one arm, and how he lost that arm is both cool and inspiring. Then Gildarts dishes it back about how he lost half his body (and an unspecified organ) and is the only person to survive the creature who did it in single combat. Et cetera and so forth. It could be hilarious and also be a fun way to actually show how similar they are without being boring.

I need to watch more Fairy Tail so I actually meet this Gildarts - I've seen the art of him so I know the similarity is there =3 But every time I get into FT I end up stopping just after the Lightning Church arc with the guild master's grandson.

Not for lack of interest, but something always seems to come along and pull my attention before I get any further.

Last time it was One Piece >.>

I like the set up for the story idea - the best part about stories that we sometimes forget is that they don't have to explain everything. You're allowed to leave loose threads or things unresolved.

I'm in awe of the your figurine collection. I keep holding myself back, because I don't really have room for one, but also because I can get carried away to a bad degree with collecting things. But I do enjoy seeing a lot of the One Piece figures, so I'm patiently awaiting any pics you're willing to share once more of your order comes in =3

Should note that I'm beginning to feel in the mood to write Genshin again, but other than that it's pretty much stuff that I've been writing as normal, nothing special.

2. GFL Halloween Special: Candæmonium

Springfield and G36 Halloween shenanigans will be posted before/during Halloween at the very least. Just actually gotta get around to starting it...

3. Original Story: 916

THIS is a story I'm extremely excited to show you all and hopefully get feedback, but more info on that in a little bit!

In a nutshell, it's an original mecha story, HEAVILY inspired by Gundam.

4. This world's evil god sucks, I'LL SHOW YOU HOW IT'S DONE!

No way in HELL Act 1 is getting finished before the New Year, but I hope those of you who actually read it are enjoying it thus far, and words cannot express how much it means to me that you are even reading it! Thank you so much!

5. Drawing stuff

I'm starting to get the hang of drawing to a point of where I don't wanna gouge my own eyes out when I finish a piece, so hopefully it'll mean you can get some variety for the blog/get to see the visuals for some of my characters in my stories!

Well, hello hello hello, all you beautiful people! I am Mod Andy, but you can call me Mod for short and to get my attention instead of the character Andy. The other way to get my attention is to simply go out of character.

Now when it comes to RPing with me, I got a few rules to keep in mind:

Crossovers of all kinds are welcome.

This one isn't a rule so much as it is a heads-up: Though I focus primarily on Murder Drones and use Murder Drones characters and OCs, this blog is technically multi-fandom and I do have characters here that aren't of that universe.

No explicit NSFW, though suggestive jokes and a fade to black/off-Tumblr approach to smexy times are ok.

Asks that make me uncomfortable or are explicitly NSFW will be deleted.

Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated.

Please respect my boundaries.

If I do anything that crosses your boundaries or makes you uncomfortable, I highly advise that you tell me so I can fix it.

Don't worry about leaving me hanging. I am very patient, most of the time.

Despises the AS for ruining her life and using her body to turn her friends and family into "monsters". Believes herself to also be a monster for what she's done, despite not having been in control of her actions. Iconic Solver voice, though it now has some emotion to it. When she is overcome with emotion (crying, pissed off, etc.), her voice goes back to the way it was pre-corruption.

the critical role cast as fic writers

matt: years-long canon-divergent epics with amazing plot, well-developed ocs, beautiful writing, and emotionally fulfilling narratives. world-building is spectacular, and elevates the existing canon with deeper history and lore. canon characters are a little ooc, but the rest is so good you can deal with the occasionally off line.

sam: humor fic that makes you cry with laughter, but also has surprisingly strong character development. lots of tongue-in-cheek character bashing. very obviously who his least favorites are.

marisha: purple prose and occasionally cringey dialogue but when she hits emotional moments right they fucking hurt. multiple comments call her ocs mary sues, but they are actually just badass and interesting. plot consists mostly of interpersonal and internal conflict.

travis: unoriginal plot and gratuitous concepts but very well executed. perfectly timed humor. no plot holes, excellent attention to detail. turns a character you previously ignored into your blorbo.

taliesin: bnf with devoted followers who ask for headcanons and commentary daily. writes only 100k+ dark!fic that is updated every few days. his readers demand whump and he supplies. dialogue is fucking SHARP, and you get chills days later. everyone has a terrible backstory. you need a cuddle after.

liam: 100% character studies, even if the summary suggests otherwise. sucks you in quickly and does a phenomenal job of exploring really complex character psyche, but goes on probably 30k longer than it should. characters make a lot of dumb mistakes that could be easily resolved but the complicated resolution is just engaging enough for you to hang in there. you are both sad and relieved when it's finished.

laura: that author. writes beautiful slow burns that are romantic and adventurous. peripheral relationships are fleshed out and meaningful, especially the platonic ones. tropes everywhere and some scenes are on the cheesy side, but you don't mind. writes the fandom classic au for the pairing and turns it into an original novel.

ashley: 3k fluffy one-shot pwps and hella cracky crossovers that you just have to try. rarely writes a pairing more than once. her list of works baffles you and you only recognize half the fandoms, but you end up reading them all because they are so unique and so well-written.

i just got into mc let’s plays of any kind a month or so ago, and into hermitcraft around the same time via gem, but i am,,, lost. i’ve only really watched gem and pearl, and impulse’s streams will autoplay while i’m not paying attention. if i want to really jump into this hyperfixation, where do i start? how much content am i getting into? should i watch everyone’s videos or can i mostly pick and choose? what about double life?

i’m glad i can hop in while it’s current, but i have NO idea where to go/how to catch up/how much real lore there is, and i’ve seen so much fan content that i do not understand lmao

Welcome to MCYT! I'm so happy others are still getting into it! You are joining at a fantastic time honestly, the content is top-notch and the fandom is thriving.

Now the one thing I say to people getting into anything mcyt related is, please do not try to watch everyone's content, whether it be videos or streams. That is the fastest way to burn out and there are about a billion content creators, so it will eventually start to feel like a chore to try and keep up with everything.

I currently watch an absurd amount of mcyt content and even then there are only about 5-6 people that I watch everything they produce consistently. The best thing you can do is have a few people you main and just pop into other videos occasionally to see what they are doing.

Thankfully there is very little that you need to know to get into hermitcraft, even on an episode to episode basis. Lore tends to be really, really informal on the server, with the exception of season 8. I want to say lore is generally more of a plot device to encourage hermit interactions, rather than a strict story with characters and plot lines.

I saw you've seen my post on getting into hermitcraft and how you should start with season 9 - I still recommend that. Season 9 is currently hitting mid-season which is when hermits start focusing on their mega bases and mega projects. It's not too far into the season so you should be able to catch up quickly if you find a few hermits that you like. But I know it can be daunting to hop into a season that's 20-30 episodes in, so honestly, I would just watch the latest episode from a hermit you want to watch and see if you like the vibes. You can always re-watch the backlog later. 

To start finding a hermit to like I suggest either watching one and branching out from there (or the “Grian Effect(TM)” as Redwinterroses calls it lmao) or another great way to see which hermits you could vibe with is to watch the hermitcraft recap. They summarise the best things that happened that week on the server and give a great run down of the different hermits. Check out the hermitcraft site for a full list of members and latest videos.

Some personal suggestions though if you like Gem and Pearl is GoodTimesWithScar, VintageBeef, Cubfan, False and Impulse. Also I'm being incredibly biased when I say this because he is my favourite, but Etho has just started his season so if you want to watch along with everyone else you should check out his videos!

What kind of things do you like watching or what things are you looking for? I can give some better recs if needed :)

If you are looking for something a little more story heavy and with a touch more lore, Empires season 2 has just started and its also looking incredibly promising. It's not affiliated with hermitcraft, but there is a little crossover with the members so the vibes are good over there as well. I think the full member list is on the Empires Wiki.

Now Double Life is part of a series separate to hermitcraft run by Grian that just happens to have a lot of hermits in it lol You don't have to watch double life to watch hermitcraft, it's more of a short-form, death games series that's very personality-driven. It's a great way to see a bunch of different creators hanging with people they normally wouldn't.

You've got 3rd Life (season 1), Last Life (s2) and Double Life (s3) and thankfully you don't have to watch the previous seasons to appreciate any of the others. Bit of self promo here lol but I actually have viewing guides for which POV's to watch for both 3rd Life and Last Life if you want to check it out.

But yeah, some fan content can be a little obscure lol You're welcome at anytime to come ask me questions for things that just seem to come out of no where. Like how Rendog is now king of the server, which is definitely a throw back to how he became the Red King on 3rd Life but he only became king there because he was wearing a skin with a crown on it from winning MCC (blue bats 9 my beloved). It's all messy and super intertwined, and sometimes it doesn’t make sense at all but most people in hermitblr are super happy to answer any questions and love to ramble as much as me lol

I agree that it can be super confusing about knowing where to start so I hope this helped. Thankfully I'm more familar with the hermitcraft/empires/life series side of mcyt but I did do a little bit of time in dsmp so if you have any questions for there, just let me know :)

how do people use ao3? i can never figure it out😭

It can definitely be confusing!! Luckily I’ve been on it for a super long time, so hopefully I’ll be able to explain well 😅

ok so first you want to go to the website, either by typing ao3 into the search bar and clicking on the website itself or typing archiveofourown.org which will take you directly there.

next your going to search up what type of fics you want! If it’s a pairing I would recommend character a/character b, that usually yields the most results. But if you don’t want a pairing you can also try just looking up a specific character and seeing what pops up! Looking at the picture, I looked up Fred Weasley/Reader, and if I wanted fics specific towards that pairing I would click on the little underlined tag in one of the fics (as I have highlighted)

alright, everything up until this point has been pretty easy, and where most ppl get confused is the filters part. Click on the little button that says Filters (as highlighted) and then you should see this menu pop up on the side of the screen:

ok let’s go down the list of the filters, starting with the little bar that says date updated. When you click on it, more options will appear to choose (as seen in the video below). Mainly this will prioritize what fics will show up on the first page that you see. Most of the options will show you the most popular fics based on that category, for example if you click on ‘Hits’ the fics will show up in order of most to least hits per fic. Date Posted and Date Updated will show you the most recent fics posted/updated

ok next is the Include tab. As it implies, you can go into here and filter in things that you definitely want your filter to have! These inclusions will take place in the form of tags, so be careful with how much you want to include. Some authors don’t tag a whole lot, and the way the filtering system works if it doesn’t have that tag it won’t show you the fic (even though it might have what you want). My suggestion would be, if it’s your first time look through the drop down options and see what might interest you! Of course it is not necessary to pick anything if you don’t want, and if there is something that you know you want you can always type it in in the ‘other tags to include’ bar

alright onto the Exclude tab. As you can see, the layout is exactly the same as the Include tab. This will filter out anything you do not want included in your fics. Sometimes that can mean specific character pairings you don’t want to see, if you want to keep to a specific fandom, etc. Remember, there is no shame in filtering stuff out that you don’t want!!

we’re close to the end!! now for the More Options tab. This is similar to including things that you want, but it’s more for the type of fics you want to see.

Sometimes authors will write for multiple fandoms, either doing a full on crossover (for example: the Harry Potter characters in the world of Avengers), or they will write multiple chapter fics that include a oneshot for Harry Potter and a oneshot for the Avengers. Choose the option you would like, and if you don’t like It you can always go back and choose not to filter it!

A lot of times authors will post unfinished fics, and will update as time goes on. If you want to read only finished fics, then click the Completed Works only option. If you only want to see works in progress, click the Works in Progress only option!

For the word count you can filter how short/long you want your fics to be, and for the date updated if you want to only read recent or old fics you can filter that too!

Now we are finally at the end! I personally have never used the Search within results bar, so chances are you won’t either. But if you do want to know then a simple Google search will probably give you the answer. The language bar will filter in specific languages, for example if you want to read fics only in Spanish, you can do that

The last step is to click Sort and Filter, and walla! All fics tailored to your wants at your disposal. If you find you want to change something you can always click the back button to go to the previous page, or start a new tab completely.

Ok now that that’s all done, to read a fic simply click on the title! (Highlighted above)

I think that’s it. If anyone has any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask! So many people discard ao3 because it can be too much to handle, but once you get the hang of it, the site is a godsend 😅

Perfect question to ask about any sgt frog character let me just *cracks open wiki gallery page* my real favorites might be his little sailor outfit and his pink ranger outfit but the wiki doesn’t have a good picture of the pink ranger outfit and doesn’t have any picture of his sailor outfit and i dont know which episodes theyre in so instead look at his keroro rpg outfit and dororous outfit

Anyway the dororou outfit ^ kills me bc the weird shit that happens with his hat is confirmed to just be a side effect of getting possessed that happens to anyone (long story that is not relevant to the topic of fun outfits) but like the clothes. Arent. He had to… do that himself. I guess. “Hang on if im going to go insane i should at least be sure i have the right outfit for it. Leather(?) pants, check. Entire fucking cape, check. Shirt that looks like it came from the girl’s section of a Walmart, check.” Does he just HAVE this stuff? This is one of those things where it’s so SPECIFIC that it feels like, well it’s probably just a reference to something that I don’t understand, but i also rarely feel like there’s a non-zero chance that it ISNT a reference to anything and they just like……… Did. that.

21. When do you think they were at their happiest?

I WOULD GUESS PROBABLY THE ONE MONTH TO ONE AND A HALF YEARS (depending on which continuity you’re looking at) IN THE NINJA VILLAGE W KOYUKI. absolutely fascinated by how beautiful it is. apparently almost completely distracted from the fact that none of his team has been looking for him or responded to any of the fucking letters he sent them. has friends maybe? there’s koyuki and in the anime there’s zeroyasha too. everyone in shinobino village knew him which is like … weird and funny to think about …. theres like a hundred or however many people out there in the world who just knew this Little Guy for a while ….. but we don’t know the details of any other relationships like if he was Actually Friends with mukuro or anyone else or whatever. Anyway yeah it was probably that time he was literally like “this place is so beautiful i never want to leave, ever” Sorry dude the village is going to get broken up and then flooded <3 byeeeeee!!!!

27. If they could meet a character from another show/movie/etc, who would be the most fun for them to meet?

ok the first person i think of is zhaan from farscape. bc like. blue aliens. nature. the sane ones. pacifists but HAVE killed. but in the grand scheme of things shes like low on the list i think.

I vaguely imagined a p5/keroro crossover once. you know how it is. theres a certain level of sworn duty to go “hm i like this thing. what other things that I’ve liked can i smash into it full speed to create a new thing that is an abomination against nature and god.” I didn’t think about it very hard, it’s kind of difficult to think about, what with the two DRASTICALLY different tones of media, but I do think dororo is the one with the best chance of like… actually Getting Along. with any of the phantom thieves. The thieves would probably struggle to trust any of the other frogs, on account of the untrustworthiness. but dororo can be more normal. He and Haru 100% should hang out. God willing. They would have a great time and she wouldn’t even forget about him.
