okay picture this
Brian Fullerā€™s original 2007 magical realism romantic comedy with a dash of morbidity (after all, this is Brian Fuller weā€™re talking abt) & fairytale elements
as this review describes:Ā ā€œCharacters & plot like Lemony Snicket, sets like Tim Burton, shots like Wes Anderson, rapid witty dialogue like Gilmore Girls, and costumes like uh, frickinā€™ magic.ā€Ā
everything is Super Saturated All The Time and the costume design is literally flawless
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
starring: asexual bakery man, very tall very kind and himbo-adjacent, has low-level necromantic powers named Ned
Tumblr media
Ned is, for convoluted reasons, the accomplice of a film noir detective named after a fish (Emerson Cod) who looks like a hardass but secretly loves pop-up books and knitting
Ned the bakery man is a Piemaker and works in and owns a building that looks like this
Tumblr media
(there are novelty cherry lighting fixtures)
he has a dog, who is undead, bc aforementioned necromantic bakery boy has the unique skill of being able to touch dead things and bring them back to lifeĀ
he and Emerson Cod touch murder victims, ask them who killed them, and then collect the reward. easy get-money-quick-scheme, UNTIL
Nedā€™s childhood crush and my lifeā€™s icon, CharlotteĀ ā€œChuckā€ Charles, gets murdered on a cruise
he touches her once (ONCE) and is never able to touch her again, lest his necromantic powers zap her back to death. hence:
contact-free romance ensues.
Ā I highly recommend the show for: asexuals, demisexuals, dog people, people who like pie, fashion & costume design enthusiasts, anyone whoā€™s a fan of film noir, people who like pie and dogs and mermaids
literally this show is my absolute all time favorite PLEASE watch it
you can watch both seasons for free here
literally if youā€™ve ever cared for my opinion at all please watch at least the first episodeĀ i beg of u

god I'm so fucking furious at the removal of Te Reo Māori names from organisations around Aotearoa. it's a complete non-issue, every organisation has the English name directly underneath the Māori name. I have never once as an English speaker been unable to understand what an organisation is for. Winston Peters, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is literally Māori himself, said ā€œTe Papa is a historic name but tell me this waka kotahi, how many boats have you seen going down the road?ā€. Waka does not just mean canoe. it means vessel, and waka kotahi (the transport agency of Aotearoa) explains this VERY SIMPLY on their official website. waka kotahi means to travel together as one. Can you see how fucking upsetting this is. A Māori person in power who is in agreement about banning his own language, being so cocky about something that he does not even understand due to the suppression of the language of his people. It makes me sick. I've seen reports from Māori people all over Aotearoa speaking out about how upset and furious they are, how decades of progress have been undone in the fight to restore the rights of their people who have for so long been oppressed and have suffered the effects of colonisation. Please share this if you can, I hate knowing how few people will hear about this, I know there is so much injustice in the world right now and it is so exhausting, I know. I love you all, keep it up.

To me, what is so fantastic about One Piece Fan Letter is the emphasis on the way the Straw Hats have created these connections in the lives of people they have never met. The ending scene, with all the hands putting together the puzzle pieces, and the way that all these connections came together in one dazzling way-- I loved that. I teared up at that. Wherever the Straw Hats go, they leave behind all of these puzzle pieces for people to put together and create bonds that would not have existed had the Straw Hats not shown up!
And it also just... Makes me so in love with the concept of the world after Luffy becomes King of The Pirates. I know that Oda has the final chapter planned in his head, and I doubt we will really see the long lasting effects of Luffy achieving the title of Pirate King + his dream, and I really do not want a sequel series ala Boruto or Yasahime, but.... I want to see a world in which children believe they can become a Brave Warrior of the Sea thanks to Usopp, I want to see more children look at Nami and realize they don't NEED to have a Devil Fruit or Haki or muscles to have adventures. I want to see the next generation of the One Piece world believe so strongly in their dreams, that they set out to accomplish them.
One Piece Fan Letter really opened the door, I think, for more and more stories about the "regular" people in the world of One Piece, the people you don't see in the arcs because they're the nondescript background characters, and how the Straw Hat Crew has changed them. And I want that. To me, that is fantastic.

Deadpool and Wolverine might actually be the best love letter to Marvel that Iā€™ve seen.
On a meta level, the movie feels like it was written in response to people dismissing the Marvel properties that arenā€™t the MCU. The MCU is the ā€œSacred Timelineā€ while everyone else gets thrown into the trash aka the Void. Wade even tried to become an Avenger because he feels that his life doesnā€™t matter. Then, Wade gets a chance to join the MCU. Of course, heā€™s thrilled, but is then told that the rest of his universe is getting destroyed since they lost its ā€œanchorā€ (aka it lost its relevance). So, Wade decides to fight for his universe.
On a surface level, you can read this movie as a criticism of the MCU in that itā€™s treating the only stories worth a damn as the ones coming from that universe. But I donā€™t think thatā€™s the case. I mean, first off, this was made by Marvel Studios. Feige and Co had to sign off on this and a great deal of the plot stems from the Loki show. Second, the movie felt more like it was trying to say that ALL Marvel stories matter. Itā€™s not really criticizing the MCU, itā€™s criticizing how audiences view the Marvel movies/shows that arenā€™t the MCU. The ā€œwhy should I care about this movie if it doesnā€™t lead to the next Avengers movieā€ attitude.
Thatā€™s why I say this was the best love letter to Marvel Iā€™ve seen. Itā€™s a celebration of the companyā€™s works, both MCU and non-MCU. You can see that from the Easter eggs, the cameos, the nods to the fandom, and the emphasis on forgotten characters getting a chance at redemption. Even the jabs at the company and fanbase feel like they come from a place of love.
But what really sold me on this movie being a love letter to Marvel was the ending. Instead of a tease to a potential De4dpool movie, it was a montage of the development of the Fox Marvel movies (I canā€™t say X-Men since clips of the Fantastic Four were there). On one side, itā€™s a touching send-off to the Fox X-Men franchise. On the other side, it felt like a reminder of why people love Marvel to begin with. Itā€™s these people - actors, writers, directors, producers - coming together to make these entertaining stories for us, to bring the comics to life on the big screen. Itā€™s like Ryan Reynolds was telling us to take a step back from all the conspiracy theorizing, nitpicking, and fanbase drama for a couple of hours, that we should just enjoy this Marvel movie as it is.
And it worked. It was genuinely just a fun, awesome movie to watch. If weā€™re using the MCU-as-a-TV-show-analogy that people love using, Deadpool and Wolverine is the 100th episode that is made dedicated to the fans and celebrating the show as a whole. Itā€™s a fanservice movie done right, one that goes beyond just references and cameos.

one thing that drives me absolutely insane is that ive seen so many comments talking about how tvpjo!annabeth isnt their annabeth bc shes not tan and blonde but i dont see people complaining about literally anyone else!! there are SO FEW characters if at all that stay faithful to their book descriptions! luke isnt a blonde guy, percy doesnt have black hair and green eyes, grover doesnt have a rasta cap on, chirons horse end is black not white, echidna is NOTTT supposed to be a conventionally attractive older woman i could keep GOING.
at the end of the day these people are portraying these characters essences incredibly, and this tv series is by far one of the best adaptations ive ever seen of any popular book. to take that for granted and complain because of different hair and skin, especially singling out ONE twelve year old girl is so childish and frankly! disgusting.

We do NOT give Jackie Tyler and Mickey Smith their props for their character growth in the Parting of the Ways. Rose is absolutely amazing, an absolute ferocious beacon of hope and stubbornness and bravery in the finale, the absolute reason why the Doctor lives and the world is saved and an equal hero to Nine, but she has a moment of doubt. A moment of hesitancy.
And Mickey Smith and Jackie Tyler step in and help her save the day. Both Mickey and Jackie give up on their idea of Rose and their hatred of the Doctor and help her pull open the TARDIS. Even within this one episode we see them struggle with their feelings and decide to put them aside and help do this because Rose is right- this is a better way of living your life.
Doctor Who is about ordinary people making extraordinary decisions and making themselves extraordinary and this doesn't just apply to official companions (who I love with all my might)- it applies to the people they love, too. We see it over and over again in Davies' era, with Jackie and Mickey and Sylvia and Tish and Wilfred and Francine and Harriet Jones and every one-off character as well, from Lynda-with-a-Y to Jabe to Gwyneth to Novice Hame to McDonnell to Sally to Chantho to Nancy to all the rest.
Doctor Who is at its strongest when the story is focused on the strength of the bleeding, beating heart of humanity (and character in general, in its non-humans), when the characters drive the story, when at the end of the day you understand why, for all of the world's flaws, the Doctor comes back over and over again because of people like this- not just his companions, but the Jackies and Mickeys and all the rest of the world.

A new AU!
I saw a war machine and a war lord and wanted them to team up and become a (literal) God damned unit. XD
Just a little fun thing. However, me being me, I got a bit too serious and now I have one shot about it. Not posted yet. Still I want to make an illustration for it first. ^^;>

I think Guildfordā€™s necklaces work because on the one hand heā€™s so masculine, confident and sexy so itā€™s just those small necklaces that give a slight touch of softness/rocker edge to compliment his leather jacket, pants and bootsā€¦costuming just šŸ¤Œ
