Help AbuShamala Family Survive: Urgent Call from Gaza

I am Mahmoud AbuShammala, 30 years old, residing in Belgium. I am writing to you today to urgently seek your help to save the remaining members of my family in Gaza.

We are a large family consisting of 11 siblings, along with our parents Ahmed and Saada. We lived in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, and had a decent and happy life. Each of us has our own family living in Rafah, Khan Younis, and Gaza. Our lives were stable until the war came at the end of 2023, turning everything upside down

On 13/02/2024, we lost our dear father due to shelling, and my mother could not bear the shock, passing away a few weeks later on 02/03/2024. The tragedy did not stop there; we also lost my sister Huda’s husband, Abdulrahim, due to random shelling. In total, we have lost nearly 50 family members and relatives

Our homes were destroyed completely or partially, and our lives turned into homelessness. We live in tents and overcrowded shelters that are unfit for human life. My family members moved between Khan Younis and Rafah seeking safety, suffering from food shortages, disease outbreaks, and lack of medical care. Children’s lives became at risk, losing their right to education and suffering from lack of care and affection

Honestly it annoys me that pride, ambition, and generally having a big ego are always villainous/evil-coded personality traits because personally I think if you genuinely are a prodigy at what you do you are 100% within your rights, perhaps even deserving, of flaunting your skills and being proud of the fact you can do something that only a small fraction of other people can do. Is it even ego at that point if you genuinely are as good at your field/skill as you say you are? Are people not aware that becoming a prodigy at something is something that takes lifelong sacrifice and practice sometimes to the point of giving up on having a normal life, relationships, etc even potentially destroying your own health???? In 2014, we finally achieved our dream of having a home, but it was taken from us within a year when my husband's mother and brothers were killed, and he was severely injured. That year,I was left to care for our 5 month old daughter alone as he underwent treatment. Despite everything,we persevered,rebuilt, and dreamed again.

Last year, those dreams shattered once more. Our home and my husband's dental clinic were destroyed in the ongoing war. My father, who I couldn't save despite being a doctor, passed away because he couldn't get the surgery he needed. My husband and I, both doctors, have always strived to help others, but now we are the ones in need.

We've moved four times in search of safety, but we're left with nothing, no stability, no resources, and only the hope that we can survive this and create a better future for our children. Your support could be the lifeline we need to start again

im really glad that palestine has not only raised awareness of the ongoing genocide but has brought attention to other ongoing human rights issues and occupations like congo and hawaii (and brought some attention back to ukraine but ive also seen people being weird about it). so now that we're having the conversation about why its bad to attempt to kill entire groups of people, i am begging that you start bringing masking and covid safety back into your politics.

a LOT of people who claim to be "leftist" or "progressive" or "inclusive" or whatever label you wanna use, have fallen into the mindset that disabled, immunocompromised, and otherwise high risk individuals deserve to get left to die. a lot of people are reacting with such shock and horror that the US would funnel so much money and support into a blatant genocide, but that wake up call came so much earlier for the people that were left to "fall by the wayside" by covid. the US has left the most vulnerable to die and is trying to convince you to leave them behind too. not to mention that even the healthiest and fittest person can become disabled by covid. the government is willing to let you and your family die if it means they can squeeze more money out of you. and if you believe that the pandemic is "over" or is no longer a big deal, you have bought into their eugenics, and i am begging you to fight back against it.

a lot of people refuse to mask, or test, or take others into consideration anymore because "i did my part." and they fail to recognize that their "part" is not over, they did the bare minimum and then failed their community. i hope that in a few months you won't be disregarding palestine because you "did your part" by using the tiktok watermelon filters and posting about it for a few months.

I am Heba Al-Dahdouh. I currently live in the completely destroyed city of Gaza. Since the war on Gaza began on 7/1/2024, my family- my father Nasif, my mother Asmaa, and my siblings Khaled, Ahmad, Muhammad, and Malak-have been living in constant fear, crying, and suffering due to shrapnel, shells, and bullets.

We have no food, no electricity, no cooking gas, no schools, no homes, no cleaning supplies, and no clothes. My school has been bombed, and my brother Khaled's university is now rubble, depriving us all of education. The war has forced us to live in displacement centers, which are just tents unsuitable for living, especially in winter.

Every day we live death, terror, and panic a thousand times because of the ongoing bombardment of my city. The war has killed more than 50 of my relatives and neighbors. At the start of the war, we sought refuge at my aunt's house, but it too Imagine: we have survived imminent death more than 20 times and have been displaced among shelters more than 13 times. My siblings and I have suffered from many illnesses due to malnutrition, and we need medication continuously.

If we stay in Gaza, we might lose our lives. Recently, we have been seriously considering leaving Gaza for a safe place. However, travel costs are extremely high. We need over $50,000 to leave Gaza. Due to exorbitant prices, rampant unemployment, lack of security, the ongoing siege, and relentless bombardment, we have lost all our money. How can we live in such insecurity, with constant shelling and shrapnel flying above us? Dear compassionate friends around the world,

In tsarist Russia, the term serf (Russian: крепостной крестьянин, romanized: krepostnoy krest'yanin, lit. 'bonded peasant') meant an unfree peasant who, unlike a slave, historically could be sold only together with the land to which they were "attached". However, this stopped being a requirement by the 19th century, and serfs were practically indistinguishable from slaves. Contemporary legal documents, such as Russkaya Pravda(12th century onwards), distinguished several degrees of feudal dependency of peasants. While another form of slavery in Russia, kholopstvo, was ended by Peter I in 1723,[1]serfdom (Russian: крепостное право, romanized: krepostnoye pravo) was abolished only by Alexander II's emancipation reform of 1861; nevertheless, in times past, the state allowed peasants to sue for release from serfdom under certain conditions, and also took measures against abuses of landlord power.[2]

Serfdom became the dominant form of relation between Russian peasants and nobility in the 17th century. Serfdom most commonly existed in the central and southern areas of the Tsardom of Russia and, from 1721, of the subsequent Russian Empire. Serfdom was rare in Little Russia (parts of today's central Ukraine), other Cossack lands, the Urals and Siberia until the reign of Catherine the Great(r. 1762–1796), when it spread to Ukraine[citation needed]; noblemen began to send their serfs into Cossack lands in an attempt to harvest their extensive untapped natural resources.

The emperor and the highest state officials feared that the peasants' emancipation would be accompanied by popular unrest, given the reluctance of the landlords to lose their serf property, but took some actions to alleviate the situation of the peasantry.[2]

Emperor Alexander I (r. 1801–1825) wanted to reform the system but moved cautiously, liberating serfs in Estonia (1816), Livonia(1816), and Courland (1817) only. New laws allowed all classes (except the serfs) to own land, a privilege previously confined to the nobility.[3] Emperor Alexander II abolished serfdom in the emancipation reform of 1861, a few years later than Austria and other German states. Scholars have proposed multiple overlapping reasons to account for the abolition, including fear of a large-scale revolt by the serfs, the government's financial needs, changing cultural sensibilities, and the military's need for soldiers.[4]

The term muzhik, or moujik (Russian: мужи́к, IPA: [mʊˈʐɨk]) means "Russian peasant" when it is used in English.[5][clarification needed] This word was borrowed from Russian into Western languages through translations of 19th-century Russian literature, describing Russian rural life of those times, and where the word muzhikwas used to mean the most common rural dweller – a peasant – but this was only a narrow contextual meaning.[6]

My son Ahmed is a heart patient and has holes in his heart. New tests were conducted on him, which showed that he was suffering from a problem with his eyes, and that there was damage to the nerves in his eyes as a result of his admission to the nursery and his exposure to oxygen.
