The youngest triplet still couldn't separate from it's parent just yet, and refused to leave him even with great danger looming.

When the Noodle Gang make it to the airship, questions are had;

Rumble & Savage: (*scared geckering!!*) MK, shushing and cooing: "Ok, its ok buds. Mr Tang was just really surprised! There there.... Your Mama is the strongest monkey on Earth, he can handle anything." Mei: "Except for whatever is going on with those spider zombies." MK, nervous: "Ye-yeah. Spider zombies." Pigsy: (*having a proud papa moment at seeing MK being so good with these weird baby monkey gods*) Red Son: "Since when did the simian reproduce?" The Gang: "Red Son!?" Red Son, annoyed sigh: "Long story. My father was captured as well. I was going to steal this ship so I can find an antidote, but I believe my parents would look down upon me if I robbed shelter from mere infants. So I GUESS we must work together on this." MK: "This is up there with the weirdest day of my life."

Note: the babies try eating Red Son's hair moments into the mission. MK has his existential moment inside the Trigram Furnace with one of the babies in his arms, cooing softly up at him.

Spider Queen sees one of the babies and has to stop herself from squeeing at the adorable fluff balls. She quickly reminds herself that they're all in a brawl rn.

sometimes i get a little weirded out by the maker/fledgling bond sometimes forcing people together in fics but then i think what if daniel THINKS his urge to jump armand is some maker/fledgling bullshit (like louis implied he had with lestat) and he's grumpy about it but then another vampire points out that's not how that works (eg. dude remember claudia hating lestat) and daniel begrudgingly realizes he's just down bad for the weirdo.

Yesss I love this so much. I actually love using the maker fledgling bond to force people together in fic but I feel like in canon it's only real to the extent that letting you feel another person's emotions helps you understand them better. It MIGHT help you fall in love but like Madeleine certainly wasn't trying to jump Louis' bones lmao

I also really love adding Armand's layer of bullshit onto the maker fledgling bond where he thinks the bond makes you hate each other. The angst potential is astronomical.

So on one hand there's Daniel moaning like a whore and clinging like he's going to die if he has to remove his tongue from Armand's throat, wholly convinced that he's under supernatural manipulation to be wildly horny for Armand specifically. On the other hand there's Armand who would be perfectly happy to let Daniel fuck him but thinks Daniel is just confusing his aggression with bloodlust and actually hates Armand on a molecular level so in his mind he's just letting Daniel have an outlet for his anger in a sexual way. So they're fucking but they're both absolutely miserable about it.

Then maybe Daniel finds out from Lestat that Armand's view on the maker fledgling bond directly contradicts what Daniel thinks he's feeling and he's forced to examine what IS actually going on.

Daniel has to force himself to look at Armand, really look deeply, beyond the fact that he finds Armand insanely hot, and finds that separate from the lust, he does love the way Armand snarks with him for hours and hours over random things, the way Armand's eyes light up when he's doing horrible experiments, and the way Armand perches on rooftops like a gargoyle when he's stalking Daniel. That's when he has to admit that he's truly in love with Armand and it has nothing to do with the vampire bond, only his distressing taste in men.

24. Tender

Warm water sluices down Leon's aching shoulders as he lets his weary body slide down to rest on the floor, wincing at the tenderness of recent and healing wounds alike as they're exposed to the droplets falling heavily from the showerhead. Exhaustion pulls at his dry eyelids, the recent three hours of sleep he'd gotten upon arriving home from a days-long mission not doing nearly enough to allay Leon's headache. He lets his head fall back against the cool tile.

His hands are shaking despite the fact that he's locked them tightly together, an involuntary reflex he's had for the past few years whenever he gets too tired. A drink won't be enough to steady them, but Leon wonders if it might still take away the ache of his tired muscles and numb his sensitive skin enough that he'll actually be able to sleep tonight.

That's become a habit too, the drinking, to stop his thoughts from racing endlessly whenever he closes his eyes. Leon finds that he doesn't have the energy to fetch it from the kitchen tonight, though. God, he wishes regular pain pills still worked for him. Whatever had happened to his nervous system in Spain makes it hit-or-miss as to whether or not the medications will work, only the strong stuff they keep in the hospitals enough to dull the endless throbbing. Leon squeezes his hands.

"Fuck," he mutters with the humorless ghost of a laugh, letting his head fall forward to meet his knees. "Fucking hell."

He stays there for a long time, curled under the spray until it starts to feel cold, and longer still after that. He closes his eyes. Sighs.

Standing is an ordeal, every bone in his body crying out at once. Stiff muscles catch and spasm as Leon shuts off the water, the towel hanging on the bar outside the curtain emanating a musty smell when he picks it up that tells him it needs to be changed out for a fresh one. He'll do it tomorrow.

Leon doesn't bother putting more than a clean pair of boxers on, dropping his towel in the pile of dirty, bloodstained clothes heaped on the linoleum. He leans over the sink, staring through lank strands of hair at his pale, drawn expression, his bruised cheekbone blossoming a wicked shade of purple. How many times has he done this? How many times has he looked at himself in the mirror and wondered who he sees?

He leaves the light on and stumbles out into the bedroom, sagging into the mattress the moment his body touches it. His phone buzzes on the nightstand where he'd left it, a quick glance at the screen revealing several missed calls from Chris and a text from Hunnigan, probably telling him the due date for his report. Leon ignores both, letting his eyes flutter shut. The pressure of the pillow against his face produces a dull pang from the tender bruise on his cheek, but Leon revels in the sensation. It almost feels good.

Simon wasn't ready to meet Johnny's family yet. Hell, they'd only been dating five or so months before deciding to stick with each other on leave, and by that point it was far too stressful and overwhelming to think about meeting a whole bunch of new people to mask around and make good impressions. Ghost needed the time off to re-regulate, and honestly, Soap wasn't up to introducing a boyfriend he had barely warned his mother about beforehand.

So instead the two taxi'd over to Manchester from the airport, arriving at a tiny, cheap flat with even cheaper security cameras dotted on each outside wall and above the front door. "Enough of a deterrent, even if half don't work," explains Simon, seeing Johnny looking around curiously. He unlocks the door and pushes it open an inch, baited breath for a couple of moments as he appears to listen for anything unusual, before opening the door properly, flicking on the warm overhead lights and pulling Soap in by the hand, who gazes at the inside of his flat whilst Ghost locks the door again.

"Dinnae take you for an interior designer, Lt," John grins, glancing at the taller man before going back to admiring the space. It's dusty, sure, but otherwise not quite as awful as expected, and although cramped, holds a feeling of comfort and rest. The two are standing in the kitchen, cupboards naked oak wood and counters hand-painted daffodil yellow, the honey-coloured floor tiles chipped but superglued back together. The image of Si sitting cross-legged on the ground fixing them fills Soap's mind, his heart fluttering at how domestic his lieutenant suddenly seems.

There isn't a wall between the kitchen and living room, and Johnny takes that opportunity to wonder straight through, taking note of a comfy-looking secondhand sofa to cuddle up on together later. An old TV with a jumble of cables is stood upon a coffee table, which simultaneously doubles as an actual coffee table, evident by a few mismatched coasters with just as many water marks as the surface they're supposed to be protecting. Splintering wood in the tried-to-be-aesthetic bare floorboards are covered by a granny rug which contrasts the baby blue walls surprisingly well. Two doors lead off from the living room, and Ghost walks over to the first one, opening it to show the other.

"Bathroom," he comments as if it isn't obvious. There's nothing extraordinary about it, but Soap does notice his unwavering loyalty here and on base to his very specific shower products - of course. He nods and they move on, entering the fourth room. Si hovers at the doorway whilst Johnny wanders inside, taking in the bedroom.

Most of the space is taken up by a double bed pressed up in the far corner, white paint on the metal frame missing in spots, showing its age. The bedding is black with little bone prints patterning it, soft cotton and all matching. Shoved next to the bed is a chest of drawers, one of the handles missing and replaced with a nail bashed into the wood. Hung up precariously on the picture rail over it is Simon's formal uniform - clearly unused for years due to his skilful avoidance of social events. Again, the floor is stripped of carpet (the bedroom in slightly safer condition than in the living room) and the walls are painted, this time a pale pink and dotted with glow-in-the-dark plastic stars.

"Never got them as a kid," Ghost mutters, gesturing to the stars and then the general soft colours of his flat. He shuffles awkwardly on his feet, avoiding eye contact - and subsequently his boyfriend's loving smile too. "You want something to eat? I don't have anything," he adds quickly.

"We can go doon to the chippy?" John suggests, walking over to kiss him tenderly. "Or if you don't feel like seein' people, I could order us something." The taller man nods at the second option, then proceeds to wrap his arms around Soap's waist, burying his face into the crook of his neck and pressing his lips to the skin, simply savouring his warm embrace.

"I love you, Johnny. I'm happy you're here."

The next few days go by far too quick for either's liking. They're spent with long mornings just laying in bed, doing fuck all on their phones in the oddest cuddle positions known; alternatively, smothering each other in hugs and kisses until they have to give them attention until they're satisfied. Time is spent plodding around the flat, wearing pyjama trousers and fluffy socks and with blankets draped over their bare shoulders.

Meals are cooked with very little skill but a whole lot of try, so at least that's something. Neither go out much; just to the shops when they need something or one night to get fish and chips from the good place across the street. They eat sitting on the countertop or the sofa, watching some shitshow with a laugh track that winds Simon up.

Evenings involve making out during conversation, quietly murmuring and laughing between kisses, chests pressed together so their hearts can talk directly. Ghost realises he's never felt so safe and content on leave before this one night when they're lying in bed, a dim lamp the only light in the room as he runs his fingers through Soap's hair, now slightly curly from growing out whilst not on base. It's quiet, but not in the lonely, terrifying way it usually is when he's alone in the flat, left to his own thoughts for however long between deployments.

Maybe, just maybe, leave will become something that he doesn't dread anymore. And perhaps next time - he thinks, pressing a kiss to his boyfriend's forehead and flicking off the lamp - it might be nice to meet Johnny's family.

it seems like she's the only one with mind reading abilities maybe its a demon king thing? javier did mention that she has a LOT more power than she lets on so maybe theres more to it? her introduction and her request for help came VERY quick she was quick to cry and while it absolutely makes sense that its bc her people really, REALLY need help, im also wondering if there's something more to it,,, she was very fast to trust lloyd; what else does her mind reading let her see, to what extent? not saying that she's an antagonist or anything, i do believe that she wants to help her people i'm just curious at how. fast this is. though it may just be because of a pacing issue thats causing this confusion in me,,, which i will talk about later below cause i wanna get thru these panels heehee

and lastly, OUR FIRST LOOK AT THE FORMER/FIRST DEMON KING CREDOS!!! and apparently he just. stopped invading and focused on farming!!!

if you didn't already know, the author is currently publishing another webnovel set in Lorasia, and it's supposed to take place when tyrannus was a kid, basically a long LONG time ago

i love love LOVE that the pieces were set up like this, idk if credos is mentioned in the novel at all but little building blocks that create bridges (however small) between works in the same universe are my favorite thing ever i like collecting those it's my favorite kind of worldbuilding thing bc it's like putting pieces together heehoo

i'll ABSOLUTELY be making a post yapping about this prequel and the Everything that is Lorasia soon, so i'll leave this off here for now :3 but just know IM VERY EXCITED/HAPPY ABOUT THIS LITTLE LORE BIT IN PARTICULAR

ok that's all the panels i wanted to talk about ,,, i was gonna dive into worldbuild yapping/speculations but again i wanna make a separate post dedicated to that

now,,, about the pacing of this episode,,, as aforementioned, it feels really, REALLY fast! it feels like we're speedrunning the build-up part of the journey, like within the episode it's like "oh we got new characters, we get to know them- oh okay yeah they're not bad people actually - oh new powerful character let's work together okay cool moving on"

and it's a shame because i really really like the art and gags for this ep, i think they're really silly and i think i could have really come to like these new characters with more time, but because we're going through this process so fast it's like,,, the setup is barely there, which makes the punchlines just short of satisfying,,,

i wanted more out of this episode, i expected something else. i haven't read the novel so i couldn't tell you how i'd adapt it or what the something i expected was but,, idk it feels like the pacing is off,,, lloyd was quick to piece together the status of the overworld demons based on their attire and behavior but i really wish it went about in a different way. i wish we could have had more time with the heavenly eight demon kings before they were just. subdued? and the two children too, are we gonna see them again? with how fast they were introduced and how fast they were set aside, i'm worried they won't show up again

i also kind of wish artanis' reveal was,,, more. i don't know how to explain what that means. maybe more ominous? more mysterious? just a little more, more hints to her character or her relationship with other characters or something,,, though maybe this is too soon and we'll see more of her later and i'll be more satisfied? i'm not totally sure

this episode just didn't hit the same, and that really upsets me because i really wanted to like this episode! i've read more manhwa than novel currently so even with it's flaws i still really like the manhwa, and i want to be able to continue liking the manhwa,,, i really hope that this pacing thing and these fast-paced bits is just within this one episode and that it'll be okay as we go forward. i really want to continue enjoying reading this!!!

it could be that the adapter is experiencing some kind of burnout, it has been quite a long time since the start of tged. i really hope they take their time with adapting the rest, i really wouldn't mind another break. if another hiatus is needed for the adapter to pace the story and the artist to draw the panels in a way that feels better or less rushed, i'd accept the hiatus fully

anyway that's all i have to say right now,,, ep 170 really feels like a gamble right now and im praying that it goes well, if i have more thoughts ill probably rb with more yapping idk

what do you think jamie does after he's sent back to scotland without his memories?

i think he's always been torn between loving his home, the house he grew up in and the river he played in as a child and the hills he knows like the back of his hand, and yet still deeply longing to leave his little world behind, because he never quite fit right. (and he did! he got out!) but then suddenly he's right back there. he goes back to his childhood home but it's not home anymore and he doesn't know why.

so would he stay and try to fit again, even though he's grown out of his place there? or would he leave, and go looking for whatever had changed him?

YESSS I am so 100% on board with everything you said here. jamie really feels to me like he's someone who's so deeply rooted in his place and his culture, and yet someone who's been battling off this sense of isolation his whole life, and it's all tangled up and complicated inside him. in part he knows his home like the back of his hand /because/ he was somewhat isolated and spent a bunch of time wandering around on his own, and connects to his culture so much because he was chasing a sense of belonging. and on the other hand he had friends and was probably well-liked! but the isolation is still there. maybe even worse for the fact that he wasn't entirely alone.

I do think the crucial point to what jamie does when he's back in scotland is. why exactly he stepped on board the tardis in the first place. which is something I still don't feel like I've fully been able to express even after literal years of trying, maybe because it works best as an impulse borne of him having a deeply traumatic turned deeply strange day. I hc that while jamie's father, brother, and best friend have now died, his mother is still alive and at home, along with other relatives and much of the rest of his community. he /has somewhere to go back to/. he chooses not to go to france and to try his luck with making it home instead, and then all of a sudden he's stepping onto the tardis. sure, he's somewhat confused, and certainly doesn't know what's happening or that he won't be able to get back - but he does still go with them. in that moment, some part of him wanted /out/. going with people he knew to france didn't tempt him, but running off with basically total strangers did. he wanted an entirely fresh start, a blank slate.

on the flip side, the jamie who gets sent back after the war games is /different/, even subconsciously. somewhere buried in there is a person who's more mature, has had three more years of experience, has dealt with so much more and stepped up in ways he probably couldn't have dreamt of when he first left scotland. he's dropped back on drumossie moor, apparently in daylight, presumably with something implanted in his head telling him that the doctor and ben and polly left, he waved them off and turned towards home. so I think that's what he'd do - he'd go home, and try to pick up the pieces as best he could.

at this point, and as he realises more and more that something's /not right/ and he's missing something, I think his sense of isolation is worse than ever. he's so, so close to snapping. but his whole world is holding on by a thread, now - his own family has been decimated, many others are in the same position, they're close enough to culloden and inverness to be subject to a few reprisals and raids from the government - and oddly enough I think that holds him together. he steps up, because somewhere deep inside he knows how to do that now. he's grown up. maybe everyone else just puts it down to the war. it's not like they know any better. and if we know anything about jamie, it's that he can hold himself together if someone else needs him. is it good for him? certainly not. but he's hanging in there.

in my timeline for things he does settle down somewhat once he starts to regain his memories and understand what's happened to him. it /is/ just another thing that sets him apart, and that always hurts, but he's also more confident and understands more about himself than he did growing up, so it rattles him less. he's probably easy to talk to and go to with problems, and friendly enough that you never really realise he doesn't open up about himself. he grows into a bit of a leadership position in his village, and it's good for him, in a way. he's also his own person, not his father's son, and I think that's a sick sort of relief for him. marrying kirsty also helps, because she's a fellow misfit and a great friend, and someone who he can share the truth with. their 'more children than there are days of the week' are lost and orphaned kids they collect, because he's not going to let anyone else grow up alone. it's a weird sort of limbo where he's waiting for the doctor but also has no certainty that he'll ever see him again, where he's made a life he's proud of with people he loves and yet there's always parts of him that are desperately unhappy - but he's getting by. he's good. he's got good things that get him through.

if he /didn't/ get his memories back, though, if he was just caught in that confusion forever... that's where I could really see him leaving. at some point he /does/ snap, and he just. heads off on his own, looking for something he can't remember. it feels good, to always be on the road, maybe to help people where he can as he passes through. he's not tied to anyone, doesn't have to be who anyone else wants him to be, and there's freedom in that. but he always feels like he /shouldn't/ be alone in this, that he should be wandering with someone.
