I've been making good headway on the Avoid/Confront path, my goal is to have it finished, or close to it, by the end of next week.
Once that's done, we get into the real meat of the chapter. And, oh boy, am I excited for what's to come. Might be my favorite part of the story thus far. 😉

Here are some of my daily sketchbook pages from Dec 2022 plus an update.
Update: I'm waaay behind on posting these since I've been busy making nearly all of the art I'll be posting in 2023. Last year went so bad that the only reason I was able to keep posting art was because I had made a 6 month art stockpile. Although life is better now it made sense to do that again and this time I'm doing 2 different things. First is that I'm going to focus on series I can post as albums, as a work that builds on itself over time. Secondly, I've been working through my list of ideas that I've wanted to do for years but never got to (such as the mondrian xp and neo miami 3 series). Life has been stable enough that I've been able to do a lot of those ideas. Once I finish going through them I'll focus on a few longer term projects I've put off as well (mostly illustrations + world design heavy work).
Looking at the work I've made so far, it's pretty clear my posts will be far less focused than before. The last month of my posts will be what the rest of 2023 will look like, in terms of variety.

Mapping is pretty tedious… I’ve made a little floor plan to make it a bit easier, but it’s far from final. Likely will have some downsizing done to it.

Having this in the program itself is fun because I can set the starting point in this at any time and test how nicely each of these rooms flow together. It’s also pretty surreal since it’s all placeholder tiles, smaller scale, and no separation between rooms.
Hmm I already see a couple things I want to change about it—

Saw a YouTube comment on an Electric Angel cover that made me think (This is still a heavy WiP but I decided to post it early)

If you know, Meiko and Kaito are indeed companion voice banks but I find it a bit strange on why there’s a pretty big sized gap between their initial V1 releases.
In comparison, it’s pretty interesting since it lines up pretty close to when Microsoft trashed Longhorn and shifted development to the train wreak we would know as Windows Vista (Post Reset which was 2004 - 2006. (Vista was finished in 2006 and shipped to manufacturing in November but officially released to the public in January of 2007 (Almost right on February) to the displeasure of most everybody because of how infamously slow it ran on dated hardware)
(Though the real question is can Longhorn run Vocaloid)

obviously late to the party on this like 9 years later and not saying anything that hasn't already been said but its sooo interesting going back and watching blind playthroughs of undertale bc its so funny how many of the people drawn to the game immediately fall into the very first pitfall set by it by being so unimaginative that they cannot imagine a game system existing that does not require grinding up levels even as they say to themselves they don't want to kill the characters AND the npcs reference the game mechanics TO them
#obviously its really hard to judge bc from my pov by the time i knew what undertale was in 2015 i already kinda knew how it worked#but its fascinating bc i only ever thought that people would choose to kill the monsters on purpose to get the no-mercy run#OR because they did it accidentally bc they encountered froggits before they got to the point where you are outright told that you can and#are encouraged to show mercy to anything with a yellow name#but ive watched a few people now who immediately get into the game and are somewhat engaging with the story? but on a completely different#level from using the mechanics of the game. theyre like “i dont want to kill this creature” on a story level but can't tie that to their#feelings of how the mechanics SHOULD work in their minds. the only game mechanics they know are Press Kill Button To Progress Forward.#so many of them are like “ahhh but i need xp tho... need to get to a higher lvl...” and its like... Why Exactly DO You Think That?#idk. its incredibly fascinating. its media literacy for video games. why do you think the fighting system and story are disconnected from#one another? so maybe ppl saying “aww this npc is so cuuuute” and then just kill them and im like. What do you THINK the ending is going to#be if this is how you think the game is going to be played? just unwillingness to attach themselves fully to the story. its soo interestin#gamers get away with a loooot when it comes to media literacy in the games they play#anyway alexa stream Conquest of Dread's decolonizing videogames video essay
