The way sex has somehow become non-sexual to me and just something I do for my own enjoyment. Meanwhile, red wine, corsets, and lipstick marks on cigarettes are hella sexual to me.

My friends and I discuss sex quite a lot (as well as kinks), and idk, there's something rather nice about unsexualising sex. I've realised that we have a v e r y different view on sex than a lot of ppl, but I prefer the view we have.

There's something so tiresome about the idea that sex has to be sexy, and that it has to be filled with ecstasy and orgasms and everything, when sometimes, it's bc you felt like it, or because you wanted to relax, have fun, or bc it's just enjoyable. Sometimes it's awkward, and weird, and doesn't go the way you wanted it to, and hell, sometimes you don't even start bc you just start laughing instead.

Sex isn't inherently sexual imo.

(Also, imo there's nothing inherently romantic about it, and the same goes for making out/kissing. My friends and I are all queer adults, who are all very relaxed about these things. It makes me rather happy tbh, since the idea of sex used to stress me out so much when I was in my midteens . Like "What if I'm not sexy?" Or "What if I do something wrong?" Or similar. I remember being stressed as hell about losing my "virginity" as well. Like jfc, I was 15. I shouldn't have worried about that shit. I do believe there's an issue with media portraying sex as very sexual, and that teens have a lot of sex. Like that's rather fucked up tbh.)

It was unnecessarily irritating. And frankly really, really fucked up.

Anytime you turned your back from a seemingly butterfly-inducing interaction with Logan, you found him all over Jean as if he wasn’t just chatting you up four minutes ago.

Jean Grey was—from what you’ve surveyed over your time at the mansion—not really phased, despite her somewhat established relationship with Scott. She was intelligent and good-natured, flashing you sickeningly sweet smiles in the corridors and occasionally complimenting your outfits as if hers weren’t twice as stunning.

But every time you spotted Logan gazing down at her with the look you thought he’d reserved for your eyes only, the image of perfection the redheaded telepath had materialised in front of you dissipated like a glass of ice left to liquefy under the scorching sun.

Because she never pushed him away, and she was so clearly inevitably attracted, whether she displayed it or not. It was virtually written all across her sharp features, and you knew the same was scripted all over your own when speaking to Logan.

That dip your heart made every time you saw the two’s chemistry from afar; it wasn't just blatant jealousy. 

It was deeper.

It was nastier.

It clung to your insides like a weight you couldn't possibly shake off. The constant sense that you were just a swift distraction, a momentary diversion from the real object of his desire. 

It ate you up from the inside out and exhausted you to no end.

When Storm or Rogue cautiously approached you and tried to console you, you shrugged it off as if it was some uncomplicated highschool sweetheart drama. They knew damn well it wasn’t. Your conflicting feelings for Logan were gradually making you lose yourself— your well-built dignity. You were slowly but surely morphing into someone you didn’t even recognise. Someone who accepted being second best without any contemplation.

All for a man who was immortal. All for someone who presumably considered you a fleeting paragraph in his primitive life while he was an entire novel in yours.

You wanted— needed to locate yourself in the vast body of water which was your feelings. You needed your sense of self-worth to reappear by a miracle, nevertheless, you knew it would take immense time and exertion to track it back down.

But in a wretched attempt to do so, you settled on a fairly elaborate plan and started disregarding each one of Logan’s advances. Suddenly, you conveniently had somewhere else to be every time he approached, you pulled back and overlooked his easy smiles along with the playful banter you practically used to feed off of.

At first, it felt as if you were reclaiming some of your power, spotting his perplexed looks in your peripheral vision as you wandered off to God knows where. But of course, everything you did came back to bite you in the ass. If anything, it only made the truth clearer. He barely even noticed, and if he did, he didn’t give a single shit.

And Jean? She remained unbothered, untouchable— flawless, even. You were the mastermind of this whole game, yet you were the only one losing.

After a particularly humiliating stretch of witnessing Logan and Jean’s shared giggles and stolen looks from across the table, you ultimately found your resolve. Alcohol really was liquid courage, because after a few drinks and several stabs of food, you closed in on them lounging on the couch post-meal. 

Logan’s bare arm was extended across the back of the grimy cushions behind Jean like some kind of cheesy rom-com, cowlicks a prominent silhouette against the weak flickering of the television. But no matter how much you resented them— her, you would never even come by the opportunity to be in the redhead’s position.

“Howlett,” you enunciated, voice sharp enough to slice through the ambient noise like a shard of glass.

Howlett. No other soul could call him that without repercussions. Aside from you. That was why you felt so unique, so distinct from the others, that was the crumb of specialty you were desperately clinging on to.

He shifts to glance over his shoulder, a spark of recognition igniting within him at the sound of your voice—not missing the shred of urgency concealed beneath it. “Hm? What's up?”

You hesitate with your next words, intently but subtly taking in his scruffy features in the dimmed lighting for what felt like it could be the final time. Because after this, you knew for a fact neither one of you could view each other in the same way. You were the one who let him under your skin, you were the one who had to tear him out, and it unfortunately was an agonisingly slow process.

“We need to talk.”

Four words. Yet, it still gave you the sensation of several weights placed upon your back; the unavoidable impending argument, manipulation spat right into your face, and the most dreaded of all, how circumstances would be after tonight.

His expression stiffened mildly as he reluctantly got up from the couch, aged leather groaning beneath his weight. The sensation of Jean abruptly invading the back of your mind was extremely unsettling and even though she appeared unphased, she, without a question, detected your abnormal uneasiness and was gingerly flicking through your thoughts.

Which was apprehensive, to say the least.

Logan fell into step with you as you departed from one of the many doddering living rooms, proceeding to a more secluded space nearing the obnoxious stairs in front of the grand entryway, mansion almost bizarrely silent with all the kids asleep. Jean wasn’t in your head anymore, but she undoubtedly already knew your objectives to the script.

You halted and so did Logan, weight finding its position set upon the auburn wood of the stairs. 

He eyed you with undivided attention. Your stomach threatened to do a fucking flip despite the conditions, the look nearly making you scrap all of this and go right back to being his side piece regardless of the anguish it put your mind through. But you dug your heels in, the clearing of your throat echoing sharply off the vacant walls.

You square your shoulders and tilt your chin up boldly, aiming to stand your ground. “What the hell am I to you? Because from what I see and a whole lot of other people do, I’m just an afterthought. Filler for the gaps Jean left open. Care to elaborate on that, Howlett?” 

He sighed, glancing at the wall behind you as if he was already fed up. “It’s not like that, bub. You’re makin’ it bigger than it is.”

Your blood scorched at the casual dismissal. Your voice inevitably rose but doesn’t go over a whisper, “Don’t patronise me, Logan,” you scoff. “I’m not some stupid kid with a stupid crush, so don’t let your ego get out of hand. I’ve watched you get all up on her, and then come to me when she’s got a class. Do you even fucking hear yourself?” 

His jaw stiffened, his own frustration growing. “You really think it’s that easy? I never asked you to get involved. You know how it is with me and her. You don’t get how fucked my life is, it’s your own fuckin’ fault things got messy.”

“Yeah, yeah. Go sulk somewhere else, I don’t give a shit how crappy your life is. It doesn’t take much to be a decent fucking human!— mutant, whatever. I’m not gonna let you come crying to me when things don’t work out with Jean. I’m worth more than that. You can’t see that, it’s your damn problem, not mine.”

He was visibly trying to find his footing, and you took it as an opportunity to carry on, “It’s not my fault this got sloppy. You can’t just invite a woman for a nice drive and end up throwing her out the door a moment later. You knew damn well what you were doing to m—” 

“You don’t know what I gotta deal with every day. It’s difficult. I never wanted it to get like this. You were the one overthinkin’ it.”

You shook your head forcefully, exasperation boiling over. “I don’t give a fuck, Logan— stop hiding behind that, you don’t even remember half of your damn life! It’s not messy, it’s cruel. I’ve had my own trouble, but I don’t use it as an excuse to hurt people who care about me. Don’t put all of it on my back.”

He opens his mouth to retort, but you cut him off. “Don’t. Don’t say anything. I’ve dealt with you for half my time here. I’ve had enough of your bullshit.” A flash of remorse graced his eyes but it didn’t do a thing. 

“I’m not your backup plan. I’m not waiting for you to look at me the way you look at Jean. I deserve someone who doesn’t just act like they give a shit. I’ve made my choice and you’ve made yours. I’m done. Goodnight, Howlett.”

With a harsh turn of your heel, you walked away with a heavy heart. But your head was clear for the first time in months, your shoulders were lighter, and the clarity you felt nearly blew your veins out. It would be painstakingly tough to face him tomorrow morning, but you knew you would get over it eventually.

Also i just realised in the morning Washing Machine Heart works WAYYy better but it's whatever I guess 😮‍💨

Your tags speak truth about Cass needing to bring up the sheer 'WTAF' factor of Sandra & Dave's arrangement and its effect on her. At *least* once.

And it doesn't need to be antagonistic, y'know. It doesn't need to be a hard line "You did this shitty thing to me so I'll always hate you forever and ever and ever". Nor does it need Shiva to bawl her eyes out and beg forgiveness, or somehow pull out a perfect answer that makes Cass run into her arms crying. It doesn't have to end with them as total enemies or total besties. But in my mind, it needs to happen before you can start selling readers on any kind of deeper relationship.

I love the idea that Cass and Shiva, by virtue of their fighter natures, understand each other in ways nobody else does. I love the idea of Shiva being the only person Cass can "speak" her mother tongue to without concern or fear of being misunderstood. I love the idea of Cass making Shiva deeply proud and happy just by being who she is and finding strength in it. I love that there's so much stuff to do with them that basically nobody has touched.

None of it can be done properly without addressing the bad shit first. Otherwise, it'll always linger above them. It's baggage that needs to be unpacked, and if done well, it would not only allow them to move forward but also give them a stage for some great character development.

I am so tired of people on Tumblr writing these giant posts about how you NEED to interact on this platform. "Likes are rude" WTAF? Likes are LIKES. "If you want to be seen as something other than a creeper you need to do XY and Z" (except get a real profile and post SOMETHING- I get that.) Otherwise- fuckoff. No I don't. "Reply only in tags!" NO. I will reply in a comment TWICE or I will ignore your stupid ass.

Nobody gets to tell me (or anyone else) how to live their best Tumblr lives. We're not trying to get famous, we're not trying to be influencers. Most of the people in my orbit are just enjoying the forbidden jelly beans and vanilla extract and putting their blorbos through impossibly horrible situations wherein they end up fucking.

Of course, if you are here to tell everyone what to do and how to live, well, you be you, but I'm going to ignore you.

Sansa Stark (tbh my girl deserved so much better both in the writing dept and in fandom bc she was constantly crapped on by fans for basically being a traumatized feminine 13 year girl - until of course the writers botched her whole character up by turning her into Lady Vengeance bc then everyone liked her like wtaf)

I mean don't get me wrong I love Lady Vengeance Sansa - just not at the expense of her more compassionate core. She should have had more scenes with Theon as Reek damnit - we should've seen her conflicted feelings of wanting to hate this man who betrayed her family and "killed her little brothers" (in her mind bc he didn't actually kill them) and yet undeniably feeling immense sympathy for him (bc that's her goddamn character David and Dan! She's not heartless and she's definitely not revenge-driven like Arya is - like she is literally the opposite of heartless you damn hacks!) Not to mention her ultimately relating to him - not only as Ramsay's victim but as a hostage herself being as she was held captive by the Lannisters while Theon was held captive by the Starks. Like she empathizes with Theon, in a way that none of the other characters do. And tbf the series does show this aspect of her character with Sophie Turner's wonderful performance but it would've been better if the writers hadn't tried to mess that all up with Sansa and Theon's earlier scenes. (I will never not be salty about the whole "if I could do what Ramsay did to you I would" - like GIRL NO YOU WOULDN'T!) And I'm not even going to touch what those hacks made her do in the last couple of seasons bc this rant is long enough and I don't have the patience to get into all that. Which leads me to -

Haaaha so, the problem is…unless there’s enough fic for me to justify a separate doc to myself, half my WIPs are under shit like [fandom] stuffff or, worse, Untitled Document. 5) What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

I want to say maybe When the Sun Won't Let You Sleep just because there's no epilogue. I always meant to write one, but I commissioned some art that never happened that was supposed to go with the epilogue. So it just never got written lol.

6) What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

I'm going to say Until because I think it's the only fic I've written that has a romantic wedding as part of it lol.

7) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I guess the only true crossover I have is my very first fic, Just Hear This and Then I'll Go. And that one is a modern day take on Pride and Prejudice. Oh wait, I also wrote a short fic that was a modern version of a short story by L.M. Montgomery, You & Me.

8) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

I do. And uhhh, different kinds? lol. To be honest, I write whatever feels right in the moment. I never plan the smut out ahead of time.

9) Do you respond to comments, why or why not? 

I do! I love comments and I always leave comments when I read. I really love that communication between writer and reader that can happen in the comments.

10) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I've been pretty lucky with this. I did have one once say something about how the actual members of 1D wouldn't like my fic. a;lsdjfsa I then pointed out that FAN fiction is for FANS. Right there in the name lol.

Unfortunately, many times.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

I have! I generally allow translations as long as I'm credited and given a link to the translation.

I haven't. I don't know that I could really do that. I'm always amazed by people who do this! I think if I ever did it would be with my long time beta/best friend @taggiecb.

14) What’s your all time favorite ship?

Oof. I have lots of ships that I love, but obviously based on my writing and reading, Louis/Harry is my favorite.

15) What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I actually have a published wip that I abandoned. sigh. It's sort of a Secret Garden-ish inspired fic, but I just never really figured out where it was going. I'd like to someday write a bucket list au that I've literally been thinking about for years. I don't know why it just never gets written.

16) What are your writing strengths?

Probably dialogue? Or maybe writing humor? People tend to enjoy my brand of humor if my most popular fics are anything to go by. lol.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

Better descriptive writing is currently what I'm working on. I find that I often write in a visual way, but I tend not to include other descriptors.

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I personally wouldn't because I don't speak any other language well enough. I once had a little Italian in a fic, and I had an Italian friend write me those sentences.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

My first fic that I published was for One Direction.

Probably If I Loved You Less because it's my two favorite things put together...Regency romance and fan fiction. And I filled that fic with a whole lot of Regency romance tropes haha. I also really like how a/b/o fits into that world.

- He secretly hates himself for doing it, because now he’s disappointed that his first kiss wasn’t special or with someone he loved.

- (yes, he is that much of a sap, thank you very much).

- I feel like Lance would be one who really enjoys non-lips kisses.

- Now, don’t get me wrong, he absolutely adores kissing your lips, but his inexperience just makes him really self-conscious about it.

- He’s afraid that he might do something wrong and then you’d be disgusted and never want to kiss him ever again.

- Even though he may be exaggerating, he’s not risking it.

- He knows that your lips have to touch but??? what happens after that?? he has no idea.

- The first time you kissed him (yes, of course you initiated the kiss, this boy couldn’t even dream of trying to kiss you), he went rigid and his face flushed redder than his armor.

- He might have accidentally kept his eyes opened the whole time. (he totally did).

- It was such an awkward experience, because, as he literally forgot to kiss back, you thought that he didn’t like you that way and that you’ve ruined your friendship and oh god.

- He eventually just stops your blabbering of apologies and admits that he has never been in a relationship before, so therefore he has no idea how to kiss.

- But you know that everything can be learned with a little bit of practice, right? ;)

- When he gets more comfortable with giving and receiving affection, Keith loves kissing you!

- His lips are thin and slightly rough and chapped, but even so his kisses feel really passionate.

- The feeling of his lips grazing your skin ever-so-slightly while his hot breath fanning against you is something you truly cannot get enough of. 

- He loves nuzzling his head into the crook of your neck from behind and leaving small and sloppy kisses, especially while you're working on something.

- She usually likes to cuddle when you're alone of course and then she sometimes kisses your face in places like forehead, temple and cheeks.

Hunk Garrett:

- He is the sweetest boy and, to be honest, him and Matt Holt's ponytail saved me from the sadness of season 7.

- He hasn't kissed many people before, but he's pretty much a natural at it.

- He is a little shy about PDA at first, but it takes him almost no time to warm-up.

- After that he absolutely loves kissing you in public!

- His favorite type of kisses have to be lip kisses. They’re quite a common choice, but to him they mean much more than he let's on.

- All of his kisses are extremely soft. His lips are also full and quite fluffy, so it just adds up in softness and gives you the ultimate kissing experience!

- He also loves giving you butterfly kisses all over, especially when you two cuddle (which happens a lot, mind you).

Medical Stuff (and how it might affect the fics you love)

If you missed it, I ended up in the Emergency Room yesterday with severe anaphylactic shock.

Short Short Form: Some of the fics that I write by myself might be late posting. (this includes nothing that @27dragons and I post together, like Sandbridge or Communal Kitchen)

All American Road Trip will decidedly be late. I probably won’t post it for at least another two weeks; I’m recovering from illness this week, and I’ll be on vacation next week.

It is possible the Fruit of Our Labors (September’s Holiday Spending) might be a week late. I’m about halfway done writing it, and I KNOW it’s a cliffhanger. I’m really sorry. This month has been crazy.

Thanks to all of you; I was reading your messages last night while I was in the ER and bored (and in pain, like... how does that work? you’d think being in pain would be more interesting or something.)

It’s possible that the anaphylactic shock was caused by the medication I took, but as I’ve taken it before without reaction, they think that’s not likely. My husband thinks it make have been a cross-contamination with the drink fountain and the Burger King, since they carry Hi-C fruit punch, which contains Concentrated Pineapple juice. If that got in my cup (and I was drinking it when I took the pills) that’s probably what caused the reaction.

I started with the hives and made that first post yesterday. Went downstairs to sleep it off after taking 2 benedryls, but it just kept getting worse. My lips swelled up so badly that I have cuts inside my mouth from where my teeth were forced into the inside of my lips. (that’s very painful, just do you know.)

My face swelled, making me dizzy and hard for me to see, the way my eyes were squinted. I have 2 black eyes today from the swelling. 

I asked my husband to take me to the doctor, got up to go pee before we left and ended up vomiting for about ten minutes straight. 

We went to the nearby urgent care, who was getting my information when I started having breathing trouble and passed out. I do not remember anything until about 10 minutes later when I was throwing up again. I have bruises under my arms where the orderly kept me from falling on my face and breaking my nose.

The urgent care jabbed me with an epi pen. (bruise on left thigh. also, because I have a million little red freckles, she couldn’t tell where the injection site was and put the bandaid in the wrong spot. I discovered that this morning when I pulled off the bandaid and the sticky bit was over the scab, which promptly ripped off and started bleeding all over the bed. 

They started an IV, gave me some solumedrol and 100mgs of benedryl.

So I’m now on the WTAF drugs all at once. Solumedrol has the side effect of speeding up your brain, epinephrin speeds up your heart, and benedryl knocks you out. 

Added to all this: the Doctor tells me “your blood pressure is terrible. it’s 80.”

Me: “That’s normal for me, about 110/80.” (I’ve been told this is a little low)

Doctor: No, your blood pressure is 80 over fuck you. We can’t get a read on it. You’re going into serious shock here. We’re going to send you over to the Emergency Room in an ambulance.

In the ride over to the ER (all of .2 miles. seriously, the Er is right across the FUCKING street and I’m going to end up with a $700 ambulance bill for that...) my IV site got shot to shit, so I have solumedrol and saline solution filling up the space between my muscles and my skin, making my upper arm look like a little goddamn balloon and hurts like all FUCK. This spot; STILL REALLY FUCKING HURTS and is very firm. Which probably means there’s still medication in there leaking into my system very slowly. (when I first saw it yesterday, I desperately wanted a seam ripper to stab myself in the arm so it would all come out. No one listens to me about things like that.)

Also, the whole inside of that elbow is sore and purply-black.

So, they had to put an IV in the OTHER arm. After fussing for almost 20 minutes about my crap veins, they ended up using a 22 pedo needle to get the second shunt started. Which they couldn’t draw any blood out of. They were debating opening a third site in my thigh to do the blood drain, but my thighs were so welted up with hives that they didn’t want to risk it. 

They gave me another epi injection (right thigh, also now has a bruise, but at least that nurse put the bandaid in the right place.)

More drugs. At some point, i got fenegren to help with the dry-heaving and bile vomiting that I was still doing. Note: my throat is all torn up from so much vomiting. My voice sounds weird, talking is a little painful, and I’m so thirsty... omg, I drank like a half gallon of water last night. 

Which was awkward when I had to go pee, because I couldn’t stand up. Let’s add to the fun and games: I have my period AND bad menstrual cramps and the “gush” whenever I stand up.

Let’s just say there was more than one reason my husband brought me a change of clothes before I left.

By 11pm, I’m admitted to Step Down (Step down from ICU).

I can hardly move. Holding my phone and texting was horrifically painful. (you know that 1-10 scale for pain? I was on the “my pain is so bad I can hardly move”) If I was absolutely perfectly still, it was about a 7. 

Because we weren’t SURE what caused the allergic reaction, the hospital refuses to (probably smart) give me any pain medication.

They tried to put a blood pressure cuff on my right arm. I might have had a screaming fit about that. It’s not MUCH better on the left, because it keeps squeezing the IV site. I have a ring bruise on my upper left bicep because the automatic blood pressure cuff takes my BP every 15 minutes. Given the amount of drugs in my system that should have been raising my BP, the fact that it never went over about 139/90 and most of the time stayed very firmly at 97/52 is a little worrisome. ADD to this that my pulse was over 120 most of the night and refused to GO DOWN to anything lower than 90 unless I was ASLEEP...

I sent my husband home around 2 to get some sleep and called him back in around 7am, when they first started talking about getting me home.

I did not actually get home until around 1:30 this afternoon. 

I am feeling a LOT better. I can breathe, I can walk, and I’m relatively coherent.

I will say last night was probably one of the most uncomfortable nights of my life and I’d like to point out that I have broken my leg in 5 fucking places at one time and the ER doctor SET IT WRONG.

Just so you know, I have a basis for comparison on This Fucking Hurts.

Just like @kate0072, I’m a rather young reader, fanfic-wise. Reading-lover since forever, I fell into the fanfic-rabbit hole two years ago, after swearing on everything that’s precious to me that “NOOOOOOOO, THEY SHALL NOT HAVE ME!!!” (It’s not that I didn’t have a ticket to Hell already; let’s say I might get a better seat)

And then came the fanfic-writing sin (even better seat...) 

And I’ve been reading you today, my dear fellow succubuses. because yeah, RPF is my shit, but I never spared it a thought before. How come? 

Because everything I’ve been reading in this post and the comment section underneath makes total sense to me and has me wondering (like, never too late, right?)

I can totally understand how it can make someone feel uncomfortable to read about two real people getting together, living experiences together, having sex, drinking peyolt, eating grilled locusts and whatnot. I was myself beyong shocked when I stumbled onto a one-shot starring the president of my country with his political nemesis (I mean, WTAF?)

Is there somehow a psychological boundary that our mind has already decided that cannot be crossed? Because all the RPfics have been reading before I started writing my own were perfectly fine to me. The talent I read was mind-blowing, and I was just in awe with what authors, young ones even, could produce. And that was what counted - and still does - the most: the talent.

How would I feel if I were shipped with somebody else than my actual partner for instance? Would I like to know about it? The fun fact is, as a female teacher, I know I’ve already been “shipped” with all the male teachers around my age by the students... (why male only? Why my age? Don’t ask...). Do I want to know what crossed the minds of my oh-so-innocent-little-nippers? No, thank you very much! Is it intrusive? Yes, it is. Can I do something about it? I mean, without looking/sounding like a total freak?  I don’t think so. Why not? Because my status as a teacher makes me a public person, whether I like it or not. It has his pros, and well, its cons. Don’t make me start when one kid meets me at the hospital, or at the terrace of a café with my best friend, who’s male too. (Hang on, maybe I should start looking up for my name on ao3...)

So what to say about all these actors, singers, TV hosts, Youtubers, my president... whose public lives are already under heavy scrutiny by journalists, photographers, ready to bounce on any bit of words, moves, news... to feed their appetite for gossip, fuel rumours, create new ones and turn them into the new canon? It’s base and vile, I hear. Okay, I get that. That’s why I don’t read, listen or buy any of this. 

But on ao3, I do. Because it is fiction, fiction that is comfortable with itself, not trying to prove and lead us on with anything. And I’m sane enough to make the difference, even if there are canon elements inside the story. On the other hand, the fact that I’m pretty comfortable with reading/writing RPF might be also due to the fact that the celerities my stories are about, know pretty well what shipping is, and even ride the wave themselves on a high level. They don’t act dumb or ignorant about the phenomenon. One could argue that they are being used by their industry, that it doesn’t mean they are comfortable with it. There again are the cons of a public person. 

Hearing public people deny this, or feel offended, sounds a little hypocritical to me.

So for us, readers and writers alike, our level of acceptance comes down to where we put our own limit to shipping. And this is a personal matter. For instance, I’m not comfortable with Main Character/SI fics. So, I’m going to avoid them (thank you ao3 and your tagging system) but certainly won’t judge them. I’m sure there are awesome ones, from amazing writers, with great plots. 

Talent should be what counts the most, to me. All the more so when it’s free.

Hi! I'd like to know other people's take on RPFs. Cause to me it seems that when I first started writing fanfics in the early 2010s, many writers were publishing RPFs for the most diverse fandoms and nobody thought there was anything wrong with it. Recently however, especially on Tumblr, I have seen so many people trying to explain why it's bad, when all I do is writing AUs and I'd never bother the real people with it, so I don't think there's anything wrong with that...

RPF is a semi-squick for me, and I think a lot of that comes from the unfortunate events of the last decade or so where both fans and journalists have shown actors fanfiction (of various kinds) involving them. 

Everyone imagines stories about strangers all the time. I’ll see someone on the train on my commute and take a guess at what they do for a living or what they’re studying at uni etc. Sometimes I’ll see two strangers together and think ‘aw what a cute couple’ with no reason for saying that except they seem to be having fun together. 

But I don’t have to worry about those stories ever getting back to those people. They’ll never know I had those idle thoughts, and I’ll forget about them within thirty seconds of moving past them on the sidewalk. 

Beyond the idea of the stories somehow getting back to the people involved, there’s also the fact that some people out there don’t have the best critical thinking abilities. If they read a story in a tumblr post, for example, they’ll assume it’s true rather than finding the original post and seeing the fandom tags on it. Ditto someone telling their friend about this story they read and someone else overhearing and assuming it’s a news story instead of a fic. That’s what takes a fictional story and turns it into gossip/rumour. 

I’m not crusading against RPF. If writing it makes you happy and you’re able to keep it away from the people you write about, fair enough. These are just the arguments against it that I’m aware of.
