Sofubi Wolf Orphnoch
- from Kamen Rider Faiz
- by Premium Bandai Spirits
Tumblr media
One of my rare amazing thrift finds at Book Off. This spoiler territory vinyl figure was released late after Kamen Rider Faiz aired in 2003, and was a Premium Bandai webshop exclusive.
And it shows. The overspray and gorgeously intricate sculpting are immaculate. This is a toy that looks like a premium vinyl release, because it was. And the fact that I paid off-the-rack sofubi prices for this stunning display piece makes it all the more noteworthy.

Good news: the Wolf Orphnoch's design goes hard Bad news: why did you have to spoil it in the opening Toei 💀
Also why did Takumi do that one werewolf meme while transforming

Mihara really transformed into Delta in the same episode, in fact a mere 2 minutes before Wolf Orphnoch's debut. Inoue was not giving that man a single chance in the world

Main Riders (all the way up to Revice) that Emu can win against in arm wrestling
https://asknarashikari.tumblr.com/post/722351426011070464/emus-win-chance-in-the-following#notes (Kind of a follow up to this)
(Feel free to call me out on inaccuracies… and boy the more I realized, many of these characters might actually win against Emu in the test of physical strength…either that they’re not human, not ordinary human beings, they’re probably already buff and physically strong, or in the case of two specific people, they’ve trained rigorously.)
Yuusuke: I’d imagine a loss
Shouichi: Also probably a loss…
Shinji: A win.
Takumi: “Takumi… you’re not even trying….”
“…Should I give a damn? You’d win either way.”
“I’m not satisfied with this win…. now try again.”
*after 100 attempts of refusing to try, the wolf orphnoch eventually gives in and takes the trying part a bit too far out of sheer annoyance and might’ve accidentally broke Emu’s arm and has to pay the bill*
Kazuma: A loss against the guy who became the undead
Hibiki: You gotta to be joking, right? This Semi-Grandpa Oni Friend is always going through rigorous training. No way in hell can Emu win in physical strength.
Souji: Really? This is the guy who went through years of physical training just to become Kabuto, that’s a hard no for Emu.
Ryoutaro: Assuming there’s no imagin, definitely a win.
Wataru: This is odd case… if this was Wataru at the beginning of his series, it be an undeniable win. But now that he’s more confident, I don’t think Emu’s going to stand a chance against this fangire/human hybrid.
Tsukasa: …I’d imagine a loss. Onore Dikeido…
Philip:A win
Shoutaro: Probably a loss…
Eiji: Win
Gentaro: …A loss. But maybe he would lose on purpose.
Haruto: The easiest opponent to beat in arm wrestling and a dead hard win, lol. You know why… XD
Kouta: This guy is now a fucking space god, for crying out loud.
Shinnosuke: Probably a loss
Takeru: Win
Sento: Hmm…probably a loss
Sougo: Maybe at the start, it would’ve been a win. But surprisingly, I’d say a loss.
Aruto: Wins
Touma: Okay…I’d imagine a loss against Touma. Seriously, how heavy might Kaenken Rekka and Haouken Xross be to be able to swing them a lot, even without being transformed?
Ikki: I’d actually think this would be a loss.
Vice: Yes, I’m including him on here… he IS technically a main rider. Funny enough… I’d like to imagine Vice would somehow lose against Emu in arm wrestling because I think that would be funny. (or my humor is boring.) But if I have to be realistic, then perhaps the physical strength of the inner demon will lead to a loss for Emu.
Well that was…more anticlimactic then expected. Maybe a lot of these main riders are just very strong, either for situations beyond their control or through sufficient training and athleticism, or…Idk, maybe something to do with the actors. (How should I describe it why most of these riders would win against Emu in arm wrestling, the literal test of strength?) Feel free to disagree and voice any disappointments.
Lmao okay I’ll admit as much as I want Emu to win every game against fellow Riders... I can’t find any fault in this... Maybe except two things
1) Takeru. Emu might lose on purpose just so he won’t hurt his ghost son
2) Tsukasa, because he annoys Emu so much he’d unleash his irritation in one swift move that may or may not break the Menace’s arm XD

Kamen Rider 555/Faiz character name meanings
I did mention in the tags of my Blade character name meanings post a while back that I'd tackle Faiz eventually so here it is (slight spoilers incoming)
🚫 Takumi Inui (乾巧)/Faiz 🚫
Tumblr media
Inui (乾): drought, dry (could refer to Takumi's blunt personality and/or how the Orphnochs' gray/monotone color scheme makes them feel so devoid of life yet while not actually dead, something like a gray area between being dead and alive but not fully one or the other; also coincidentally sounds similar to the Japanese word for dog, which foreshadows Takumi being the Wolf Orphnoch)
Takumi (巧): adroit, skilled, ingenuity (could refer to Takumi's willingness to adapt in any situation, as is the case with wolves in the wilderness and even the Orphnochs' instinctual nature to survive rather than live in contrast to humans)
Faiz: based on the Greek letter phi (φ), his number code 555 loosely plays on both the letter's Greek pronunciation and the English 'five'
✂ Mari Sonoda (園田真理) ✂
Tumblr media
Sonoda (園田): sono (園) - park, garden; da (田) - rice field, rice paddy
Mari (真理): ma (真) - true/truth, reality, genuineness; ri (理) - logic, arrangement, reason; both characters together mean 'truth' (could refer to Mari often being the voice of reason among the cast)
🧺 Keitaro Kikuchi (菊池啓太郎) 🧺
Tumblr media
Kikuchi (菊池): kiku (菊) - chrysanthemum (has various meanings in the Japanese language of flowers including cheeriness, which ties into Keitaro's more cheery personality compared to both Takumi and Mari and their bond as a trio getting stronger); chi (池) - pond, pool
Keitarō (啓太郎): kei (啓) - disclose, open, say (ironically contrasts both how Keitaro initially didn't know Yuka's full name when they first met until later on and the main cast's constant miscommunication issues); ta (太) - thick; rō (郎) - common suffix in Japanese male names
🐴 Yuji Kiba (木場勇治) 🐴
Tumblr media
Kiba (木場): ki (木) - tree, wood (represents strength, flexibility, and warmth as one of the five Chinese classical elements, could refer to Kiba's resilience despite all the tragic stuff he went through); ba (場) - location, place
Yūji (勇治): yū (勇) - courage, bravery (also could refer to Kiba's resilience); ji (治) - reign, be at peace (could refer to either Kiba becoming Smart Brain's president near the show's end or his initial goal of wanting peaceful coexistence for both humans and Orphnochs)
🕊 Yuka Osada (長田結花) 🕊
Tumblr media
Osada (長田): osa (長) - long (as an adjective, could contrast with the Orphnochs' shortened lifespan), head, chief, leader (as a noun); da (田) - rice field, rice paddy
Yuka (結花): yu (結) - tie, bind (could refer to Yuka's bond to Keitaro despite their initial name misunderstanding or her wanting to sever her ties to her abusive family and past); ka (花) - flower
🐍 Naoya Kaido (海堂直也) 🐍
Tumblr media
Kaidō (海堂) kai (海) - sea, ocean (could refer to snakes resembling/being analogous to dragons in most Asian mythologies but that's definitely a stretch on my part lmao); dō (堂) - hall, temple
Naoya (直也): nao (直) - straightforward (ironically contrasts how Kaido initially not being upfront/directly admitting that he doesn't want to hurt humanity like both Kiba and Yuka already did); ya (也) - to be (classical form), also a common suffix in Japanese male names
❌ Masato Kusaka (草加雅人)/Kaixa ❌
Tumblr media
Kusaka (草加): kusa (草) - grass, rough/roughness, fake, not genuine (could refer to Kusaka's rough interior as part of his true personality or him hiding it from the rest of the cast); ka (加) - add, addition, beneath; both characters together could mean "a roughness beneath" (could refer to Kusaka's true personality that he hides from the rest of the cast)
Masato (雅人): masa (雅) - gracious, elegant, refined (could refer to Kusaka's "nice" facade he puts on when interacting with the rest of the cast while hiding his true devious personality); to (人) - person
Kaixa: based on the Greek letter chi (χ), his number code 913 loosely plays on both the Japanese reading of his name (kaiza) and the numbers used (ka -> 9, i -> 1, xa/za -> 3); coincidentally sounds similar to the German kaiser meaning 'emperor'

Granutes are SO interesting to me. What is Granute society actually like? They talk about it so much but we barely know anything about it. I wonder if there's any rhyme or reason to what Granutes look like since they've been animals, fungi, and seaweed (the one for the upcoming Hyper Battle Video who doesn't have a name yet) but there's not really a pattern to what they are. I'm gonna dump some theories I've seen on Reddit and analyze them because I'm really invested into Granutes to a point where it might as well be terminal.
Theory #1: Granutes are supposed to represent 'forbidden' food. This was an early theory and it could still hold up but it just doesn't seem solid enough for me. All the Granutes we've seen by the time someone shared this theory have been things relating to illegal/dubious foods. Dente is a whale and whaling is outlawed in most places, Hound is a dog, Otake is a mushroom and some fungi are poisonous, Early is an alligator which are edible but also have social stigmas surrounding hunting them, Bon is a porcupinefish which can be poisonous if not prepared correctly, Dean is a sardine which are often considered 'disgusting' food, etc. The things that break this theory are Chooul (bird), Whipple and Glotta (octopus and squid), the seaweed Granute from the upcoming Hyper Battle Video, Lango/Bouche (goats), and Rojoe (crab) since they're all commonly edible foods. Design-wise, however, most Granutes have decaying appearances with many part-timers actively having fly-like pieces incorporated into their looks and some even have a whole bug on their bodies so this theory is kinda still afloat.
Theory #2: The Stomach Family has multiple mothers. This one stems from the fact that besides Lango being a goat Granute like Bouche, no one else in the Stomach family shares the same animal form (not counting the twins because they're twins). From what I've heard, Lango's Granute head costume piece is the same exact one that was used for Bouche but with the facial hair removed. We haven't seen enough Granute families to actually figure this one out since the two other familial groups we've seen is the Granute mother and child in one of the early episodes that visited a treat selling cart (I can't remember their episode or what they looked like for the life of me) and the Amarga family. To be fair, we were JUST introduced to the Amargas by the time of me writing this so I don't know if we'll learn more about them. Still, Lakia is a jellyfish while Comer is a squirrel/chipmunk. Do Granute genes randomly assign a person a thing or are appearances genetic, with the Amargas and Stomachs having different sets of parents for each child? Again, we don't fully know the Amargas' situation but for the well-off Stomachs it's definitely possible for multiple mothers to be a thing since political marriages are confirmed to exist in the Granute world and Lango treated the idea of using his younger siblings for marriage tickets as nothing particularly new to the family.
Theory #3: The mother of the Stomach Family is the Granute who took Hanto's mother. This theory is my favorite for this show since it's so twisty and ironic. Someone on Reddit commented this and my life has been different since. The current reigning theories around the identity of the wolf Granute who attacked Hanto's mom is that it might've been Shoma before the show (similar to the Wolf Orphnoch from Faiz) or that the wolf Granute's gavv was surgically given/used to enhance Shoma's own gavv. While I'm not big on those theories, the importance of the wolf Granute IS going to be important either way and this theory really cements Hanto's story to the Stomach Family. It's CRUEL and PERSONAL and I love it! We don't know much about the significance of red gavvs besides the fact that they stick out like a sore thumb in Granute biology. Maybe it's a sign of high social standing, tying the Stomach mother back to the political marriage theory. Who knows! What I DO know is that the three wolf Granutes we see are the mystery flashback Granute and the Stomach twins, Shita and Jeebh.
Theory #4: The Granute organ that Hanto surgically received belonged to a part-timer. This is a new theory that's been popping up because of the most recent episode but it lends itself to multiple interpretations. We don't really know what happens to part-timers who don't fulfill their hitopress quotas besides the fact that they aren't paid and go into withdrawal. I can't imagine this would be a good limiter on part-timers if, like most drugs, Dark Treat addicts can be rehabilitated. That, along with the fact that Stomach Inc. already deals in illegal stuff, makes the idea of Stomach Agents killing unprofitable part-timers not that far out there, in my opinion. Since Stomach Inc. is already a black-market company why not add another product to their list of goods? What if Stomach Inc. also harvested organs from their staff? Again, this is another theory I've picked up from Reddit and it comes from speculation that Suga's Granute organ he had on hand to implant into Hanto was provided by Stomach Inc. since Suga had never really encountered Granutes in close quarters before. The Redditor took this theory a step forward and guessed that the specific Granute that served as Hanto's organ donor was Comer Amarga since Comer was running away with a large wound from Stomach Inc. Definitely one of the darker theories for this show but if that is true then the dynamics between the characters get even crazier.
