one thing that took me embarrassingly long to learn is "sometimes when people say things, they will not be true."

I used to tell people about this revelation and they'd be like yeah.....duh.....but like, why wouldn't my base assumption be that you're communicating to me in a straightforward manner. anyway, I get scammed a lot.

#example: a 'friend' in middle school told me I should ask a guy out. she said 'he'll totally say yes'.#he did not. which was the obvious outcome #but it took me years to realize that she'd said that hoping to fuel some drama for her own entertainment.#ANOTHER EXAMPLE #a guy in college approached me saying that he'd been seeing me around campus but was always too shy to talk to me #and that he really wanted to get to know me #so I was like wow 🥺 romance 🥺 and hopped into bed with him #and afterward I was like what do you wanna do 😊 should we see a movie 😊 should we go out 😊#and he was like nope. byeeee.#and I realized I got bamboozled into sex #total shocked pikachu face #I'm still not the best at this tbh. talking to preschoolers is awesome bc they have not fully differentiated stories into 'true stories' and 'imaginary stories' yet so you will tell them about something that happened you once (coyote came out of a bush right in front of you and got startled) and they will tell you about how one time their house was full of coyotes in every room 'including five in the garage' and they're not even like, aware i think of the idea that they are technically 'lying'. they are simply telling stories about coyotes bc its time to tell stories about coyotes.

#like ppl will be like 'kids love to lie' but i think whats going on is the human inclination to storytell. which is pointedly different imo #and like to be clear im not saying they dont know there weren't actually coyotes in their house #its just that like. they don't know why it would matter

ultimately people dont actually notice things about your appearance in the way you think they do. think about someone. you find beautiful, or someone you enjoy spending time with, now thing about features of theirs that dont conform to beauty standards. is that something you care about, do you even notice it?

thats how everyone views you. nobody genuinely sits and scrutinises peoples appearance people care about you for the attachment they ve made to you, or the image in their mind they have of you. and that i think is wonderful.
