Vampirism is a prion disease. It doesn’t rewrite your genetic code so much as transfer the data onto another hard-drive, vampire cells are almost entirely identical to human cells on the surface but made of completely different chemicals and proteins. This contributes to a widespread belief in the supernaturalist circles that vampires die at infection, and the remaining organism is in absolutely no way a human being, though it may look and sound like one. vampires are to be referred to as ‘it’ and given titles as opposed to names. Thralls, or vampires of various types under the coven authority of a head vampire, are classified as additional body parts of the same large creature. A hive mind with a queen, as opposed to a family or pack structure. Vampires require blood to drink not because of nutrition but because the prion disease’s main negative effect is the inability for the bone marrow to generate blood cells. They require constant transfusion in order to function. It’s unclear exactly how vampire cells are compatible with human blood cells and how the oxygen transfer works exactly, but it does work.

it is easier to identify a male vampire than a female one. This is because the old dead blood the vampire has been using for a few weeks needs to be expelled from the body, and the males are forced to regurgitate it for a few days each month. Females have a built-in method for regularly expelling blood from the body - they have heavy period flows and that’s about it.

there is much theological confusion around vampires. Largely due to their inability to enter some houses of Jewish, Catholic, and Christian worship, and their difficulty interacting with sacred images or sacraments. It’s unclear why that would bother them at all - most supernatural beings have limitations, and many of them are even religious, but the limitations seem mostly linked to the faith of the religious community. Not the case for vampires. Other than that, their weaknesses seem to vary by individual.

Werewolves do not necessarily fall into a pack structure based on actual wolf behavior - their packs are rigidly defined and usually mirror local societal patterns, but rarely correspond one-to-one. Often, pack structure seems deliberately opposite the predominant social structure of the surrounding culture, and the methods by which these packs form and self regulate are always brutal and dangerous.

On the train of your last ask, what are your thoughts on dragons sexuality?

Personally I think he’s Demi something (more attracted to personality than looks or gender)

Honestly because we don't know that much about the guy it's kind of hard for me to form an opinion, and if Crocodad Real then we're going to find out his orientation eventually (since we gotta find out if that was a contributing factor to the Dragodile Divorce (assuming they're divorced)) so I'm kind of okay with not forming any headcanons, since the headcanon could get thrown out the window

If anything, what interests me is how Dragon's orientation could impact the story-- like when I've discussed the Dragodile Divorce I have mainly focused on speculating how Crocodile would've felt about it, but how Dragon felt about that is interesting too

Because if he's straight then yeah that probably contributed to The Divorce, but how did Dragon feel about it? Learning that the love of his life is now happier than ever before after transitioning and being happy for him, while also losing the version of Crocodile that he fallen in love to begin with? No longer feeling thet draw to him because of the thing that has brought him so much joy and comfort? Knowing that even if they did take down the WG the family Dragon had hoped to have would never come to be, because their relationship would now end? And that it would be on some level his fault, because he's not attracted to Crocodile anymore?

Like even if Dragon took things well and the divorce happened "on good terms", it would've been sad for Dragon too.

But then there's a slightly juicier option, because what if Dragon was bi, but the Divorce happened under unpleasant circumstances (be it Dragon lashing out or things getting violent because he couldn't recognize Crocodile) and he didn't figure it out until it was too late?

Because you'd still have Dragon going through some if not all of those previously mentioned feelings, of having to come to terms with the version of his significant other whom he had fallen in love with no longer existed, the family had pictured in his mind would never become a thing, that those things were be kind of his fault and that he had hurt Crocodile deeply in the process. But then he'd be looking at some news article of Crocodile's most recent heroic stunt, seeing his handsome face with that usual, unbothered expression, and realizing he still loved him? That he still wanted to be with him, wished they were together, even now that Crocodile was a far more handsome man than he was? And then the realization that he's bi hitting him like a fucking truck But it's too late. The divorce already happened. He already hurt Crocodile too deeply. Knowing Croc, he had probably already moved on. There was no fixing it, the relationship was over. At least for now, trying to go see Croc could be dangerous due to the WG and not wanting to risk the WG finding out about them and The Kid and Croc would probably be furious if Dragon even risked that at this point, after what he had done. Oh, and then Crocodile killed thousands of innocent people attempting to usurp a country by manufacturing a civil war. Something Dragon can't forgive. (Not to mention, hearing he had been taken down by their own son... Oof)

But what if despite all that, and not knowing the full circumstances behind what had happened (like the fact that Crocodile didn't know who the hell Luffy was), Dragon still loved Crocodile? What then?

Oh my god, YES. This is insanely evil and I am so here for it!

I guess if they released a toxin on DS9 that only affected Cardassians, maybe modelled on the Empok Nor one, but that was made to interfere with a Cardassian's memory? Garak being aware and frustrated that his memory is becoming less reliable but not being able to work out why, and eventually confessing to Julian that he thinks he might need medical help because something's definitely wrong...

And Julian not believing him and assuming that this must be a holographic version of Garak bc s31 knew they couldn't replace him perfectly so they had to make an excuse as to why he's acting differently. But Julian's not going to fall for that.

(Bonus points for this happening after Tears of the Prophets and Julian having all the puzzle pieces slot into place in his mind of: "Ohhhh, Jadzia's not really dead, that was all holographic too to make me more vulnerable and less likely to notice the change in Garak. Well, screw you, Sloan - I've worked out that none of this is real and I'll do anything to get back to my real life where Jadzia's alive and Garak's Garak."

And everyone else is at their limit because they're all grieving Jadzia and now Julian's seemingly breaking down with his refusal to believe that any of this is real, they're having to try and convince him that Jadzia really is dead. Which is really not any fun at all.)

After Inquisition, Garak becomes the only person that Julian really trusts and feels safe around. Because Section 31 might be able to get enough data on his friends to be able to code a hologram to impersonate them, but it's impossible to imagine them managing to get anything on Garak.

(And much less bothering to find out Garak's views on various literature they've discussed over the years. Both of them having an eidetic memory also really helps soothe Julian's anxiety over whether or not this is real or another holosuite illusion, because he can recall any shared memory and Garak can -for-word finish it off.)

Tiny Books Bang 2023

Wheeeee so the Renegade Bindery server had a Tiny Books Bang challenge where there's a typesetter and binder exchange thing of books sized quarto and below, and I got a Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries epistolary fic typseset by @ashmouthbooks so OF COURSE I HAD TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A LETTER. AN OCTAVO SIZED LETTER (I attempted to fashion the covers into an envelope closure but that took too much time and effort to pull off, so no)

Definitely did a 2-day deep dive into period accurate stamps, had to print out the stamp onto sketch paper, carefully sanded down the back side edges sit it sits nice and flush. Spine is just homemade black bookcloth. For the cover, I printed onto brown sugar paper, then gave it a layer of acrylic sealer before attempting to align it, poorly on one copy so I kept that one lol.

Inside, endpapers are these lovely chiyogami I bought a pack of a while back, and 78gsm cream paper. Made endbands by using the leftover chiyogami trimmings and gluing them around a core of leather.

Corrupted DigiDestined AU

Aka- Another Digimon AU That's Me Just Spinning Gears and Playing With an Old Post

(This is not reboot continuity- I just needed a pretty picture.)

I've seen this concept done in three ways-

Outright turn the kids stereotypically evil. This works in the short term, but it's not good for character anaylsis/DigiDestined rotation. The "quick and dirty" option, basically.

Invert the Crests. So the Crest of Courage becomes the Crest of Fear. I found only one cool Tim Burton-esque art set that did this well. I can't find it now. But generally, I've never been satisfied with these. Especially because they have to work around the "Crest of Darkness" every goddamn time...

Work with the kids' weaknesses. So the Crest of Courage becomes the Crest of Recklessness. This is probably my favorite option.

I want to go more in-depth on the last one, and that's why we've gathered here today. Only instead of just working with the canon weaknesses...what if I tweaked the kids's pasts so their "worst event" never happened? What kind of people would they become?

Also alternate Digimon partners because wheeeee I like them.

Tai- The Crest of Arrogance

Impmon-> Punkmon-> Loudmon-> HeavyMetaldramon

This was an easy one because he's my blorbo. The event I chose to erase was also an easy pick. What if Tai never brought Kari out to play soccer that day? I rotated this for a bit and concluded that the athletics aspect of his character would take over, making him a sort of asshole jock type.

Tai still possesses a natural charisma, leadership ability, and recklessness. But his rule is delivered with an iron fist. It doesn't matter if he's on the soccer pitch or in the Digital World. His rule is simply law. His leadership potential and cruelty are magnified to the point that even adults don't want to get on his bad side.

Tai's self-centered and not afraid to bash your face in if you disagree with him. Your name doesn't have to be "Matt" either. He thinks of himself as a great hero, and anyone who disagrees with him must be another antagonist there to ruin his day. But in reality, he's barely keeping the group together with glue made of terror.

Impmon may be a cliche choice, but I chose him for his Punkmon evolution line. They're still reptilian, while also being loud, belligerent, and always looking for a fight. I also just like HeavyMetaldramon in general. He's got a dumb name I can't help but love, plus he looks like another favorite who will come into play later.

Matt- The Crest of Manipulation

Gazimon-> Sangloupmon-> Astamon-> GranDracmon

Matt's "special event" was obvious, too. His parents never got divorced in this AU (an event that will come into play with TK too, naturally). Since this event controls a lot more of Matt's character than Tai's event, I had to think a minute for him. I decided to fuck with his sense of empathy and dub characterization. Because Matt can be as emotionally mature and sensitive as Sora, even if he can't always make that obvious.

So what if he used that trait for evil?

On the surface, Matt's the cool rebel of the group. His suave surface nature makes him easy to approach. One might even call him a friend, even if they know nothing about him. However, he knows how to play with feelings. Like any good instrument, you keep plucking strings until you get the result you and. And that's exactly how Matt views people. Before you can blink, he's got what he wanted and dumped you on the side of the road.

Astamon and GranDracmon are both smooth-talking demon Digimon. Astamon attracts a lot of followers, while GranDracmon can talk any angel Digimon into "falling down". I figured they'd be a perfect fit (though I was admittedly thinking of the Astamon from Young Hunters). Gazimon and Sangloupmon kept the canine theme without being Gabumon recolors.

(Fun fact- I've used this line before for an OC, but that character was (in the end) benign.)

Sora- The Crest of Ambition

Dracumon-> BlackGatomon-> Bastemon-> Lilithmon

It would have been easy to make Sora the emotional manipulator. Too easy. And it wouldn't have anything to do with her issue- namely, her controlling mother. But what if her mother was a little more lax? No- MORE lax than that. What if she supported her daughter no matter what- even if those ambitions skewed too extreme?

Woe be to anyone who gets in this Sora's way. It doesn't matter what she has her eye on. She'll get it, and she'll gladly step on you if you get in the way. She's never heard "no" before, and has no time or desire to hear it from you.

Her Crest of Love has become a type of Lust, but not in the sexual sense. It's desire. Passion. It's never-ending want. The cup is never full for Sora. There's still more drink to be had. There will never be enough.

I worked my way backwards from Lilithmon, choosing Digimon with mind control abilities and ambitious personalities. This means we get a recolor of Gatomon- despite my efforts to avoid recolors of the canon crew- but oh well.

Joe- The Crest of Sloth

Phascomon-> Porcupamon-> Mephismon-> Belphemon

Joe's "problem" in Adventure is also heavy expectations, much like Sora. Taking them away could result in an overly ambitious character. But for Joe, I went the opposite direction. What if he was a person with no ambitions at all?

Paralyzed by his own fears and no goal in life, Joe is more follower than leader. He carries out orders without a thought to his own life or safety, because he believes his life to be meaningless. With certain people in this corrupted crew, however, that means he's carrying out plenty of evil deeds. He's not necessarily evil himself, however- just without direction.

I worked my way back from a Demon Lord again- this time Belphemon. He's naturally the Demon Lord of Sloth (for those who don't live in the Digital World inside their minds). I chose Mephismon just to connect the Champion to the Mega, and also because he's a demonic Digimon.

And that's about it for Joe. I wish I could do more, but it's hard to add personality to a character with no goals.

Mimi- The Crest of Selfishness

Aruraumon-> Zassomon-> Blossomon-> Rafflesimon

Otamamon->ShogunGekomon (warp)

Mimi doesn't have family issues like the rest of the cast. The problem is she's spoiled. So instead of erasing her backstory, I decided to erase her character development. Certain events like Sora convincing her to leave the Gekomon don't happen in this timeline. They can't, after all, with how different everyone else is.

This results in a Mimi who only acts in her own self interest. Maybe not at first. Maybe she thinks the others are pure evil. But that changes. Thanks to the attention lavished upon her by the Otamamon and Gekomon, she's essentially Princess Mimi full time. Woe be to the poor idiot who gets under her high heels!

I decided to go with recolors for this line just because it made more sense to corrupt Palmon than to invent a new partner. Perhaps Mimi was originally a "pure" force introduced to keep the others in line. But her own flaws were waiting to consume her...

Also- similar to how Leomon was able to digivolve thanks to Tai's Digivice, one of the Otamamon gained the same power from Mimi's. That's why she has two Digimon. And you can bet others like Chuumon/Sukamon, the Numemon, and more follow the army of Princess Mimi.

Izzy- The Crest of Intellect

Hagurumon-> Mekanorimon-> Vademon-> EBEmon

I know what you're thinking- I'm a lazy-ass and replaced "Knowledge" with a synonym. And you're right! But with the event I removed being Izzy's knowledge of his adoption, his intelligence didn't go away. Instead of retreating, he expanded outwards. Think Ken when he was roleplaying the Digimon Emperor, but with no Wormmon to hold him back.

Izzy is smarter than you and he knows it. Similar to Matt, he's outplayed you before you can even say hello. He doesn't have Matt's charm, but he doesn't need it. You're too stupid to counteract him, anyway. He can hack your systems before you've realized a single thing amiss. Maybe he'll even let you believe things are fine for a day or two...

Like Sora and Mimi, he hasn't encountered any problems. A snag in Izzy's plans is always temporary. But hit him in his unstable emotional core, and you may have a chance of saving your laptop. But the resulting revenge is bound to be devastating....

I was going to do a full machine Digimon line, but then veered into Vademon. The big brain design caught my attention. Also, since regular Izzy had troubles with a Vademon, having his dark half master this Digimon has interesting implications for my brain.

TK- The Crest of Terror

DemiDevimon-> Devidramon->DexDoruGreymon-> Megidramon

Remember how I cut the divorce from canon? This means TK grew up with Matt, who- in this timeline- is an emotional abuser. And of course, his favorite target is his doting little brother, who will do anything he says.

Like Joe, TK's not evil. He just lives in a constant state of fear. He'll apologize as his Digimon tears you into bite-sized pieces- all while proclaiming his love for his brother. Whether Matt tells him to act as a distraction or kill, it doesn't matter. He'll do it, knowing he'll get no reward.

But TK wants a reward. Matt's his whole world. It's always been that way. Unfortunately he sees no other existence. Without Matt, he simply doesn't exist.

Megidramon is one of my favorite Digimon, so I had to squeeze him in somehow. I like to think TK's partner is a manifestation of his true feelings. Though he loves his brother, he's also disgusted by him. If given the slightest bit of leash, he'd turn the monster loose on Matt- and regret it for the rest of his life.

(And yes- a DemiDevimon did mess with TK in canon...convincing him his brother didn't love him...it's only a matter of time...)

Kari- The Crest of Despair

Salamon-> Meicoomon->Meicrackmon Vicious Mode-> Mastemon

Despair is kind of similar to Darkness, and I've seen it used on a few of these sorts of things. But it's not like "the opposite of Light is Darkness" because it's an actual character trait. And it's a direction Kari could go without her brother's love to support her.

Kari's in a similar boat as TK. She's lived her whole life with a bastard of a brother. But she also has a host of illnesses. Just once, she'd love her brother to visit her in the hospital. But he never came. Soccer was a useful excuse, or else his parents were too scared to command him.

Now, they're trapped in the Digital World together, and it's no secret that Kari's the chain around Tai's ankle. He certainly hasn't kept that information from her, finally losing his patience when she falls ill in Machinedramon's territory. She always held on to hope that he was a good big brother deep down. Now proven wrong, she's in a vegetative state of despair.

Like with Mimi, I just corrupted Gatomon instead of making a new character. But I started from her Rookie stage of Salamon. We're gonna pretend tri. never happened for this. As for Mastemon? Gatomon DID reach her Angewomon stage, and that data still exists within her. But it mixed with the dark despair created by her partner. Instead of falling entirely, she became a deadly being that exists between light and darkness.

Odds and Ends

This ramble does imply that evil Digimon like Myotismon were still killed. This was not out of charity. They simply got in the way and were disposed of.

The Digital World still chose the kids during the Greymon/Parrotmon fight, when they were young and innocent, having no idea what would happen in the future. Mimi was the OG damage control, with a pure and sincere nature that might be able to purify the others.

When Mimi failed, Kari's shining light had to take over. It worked for a little while- mostly for TK and Joe, who are not malicious.

When Tai polished off Kari's light, TK finally snapped. His Megidramon responded to his anger, attempting to destroy Tai. This Digimon ran into a blockade in the form of HeavyMetaldramon. Not sure which of the two would win this fight, but it would be cool at least. The loser probably wouldn't make it out alive, though...

As previously mentioned, tri didn't happen. 02 still could, with Davis/Cody/Yolei/non-evil Ken being the third attempt to keep these damn kids in line. Maybe they receive help from TK, Joe, and what's left of Kari. But that's an AU within an AU and I'm already tired.

Mimi never returned to the Real World when the castle has all she wants. She mostly operates from there, keeping in touch with the others via Digimon like Soundbirdmon.

HIS Niyati - Bhallaldeva x Modern AU Reader(Time travel)

I gazed at the night sky, and my eyes teared at the thought of being in this totally unknown place—or world, I would say. 

What am I doing here? Why am I here? When I was supposed to be back home with my comfort blanket, watching the movies. But here I am in one of the movies I loved. The cold air caressed my neck and hair, causing goosebumps to rise all over my body, and The hair at the back of my neck stood, causing me to freeze, as if a predator was watching me as a devil in the dar that would make the mortals mind to froze. I slowly gulped down and turned around, only for my breath to get stuck in my chest as my eyes widened.

Standing before me is the devil himself, the darkness that will cloud Mahimati in the upcoming years—Bhallaldeva himself.

His majestic body and toned physics will make your brain make contrary statements about him if you don't know who he is or what he has become. 

Not only did his eyes find mine, but a sudden change in his body and his eyes made me gulp down. His legs slowly took a step and came near me. I tried to stand my legs on the ground and not show that I was intimidated by the mass of handsome muscles coming at me.

But nothing could prepare me for the next thing that happened. Amusement filled his eyes, his lips turned up, and he smiled. I mean, Bhallaldeva SMILED!! That, too, looking down at me. I have watched Baahubali more than 50 times, both 1 and 2, but I have never seen a smile from that handsome devil. But here he is, standing before me and smiling, the very happy one that could make your heart go Wheeeee!!!

"You... you are... here." His voice came out as he whispered, surprising me. I tilted my head slightly and looked at him, responding to him.

I licked my lips as I spoke back to him, "Sorry. I don't get what you are saying." I tried to keep it simple.

But just as his soft fingers caressed my cheeks like a feathre gracing over it, his cold fingers felt so good at the top of my heated cheeks, My body melted at his touch.

"Ahh," I gasped at his sudden closeness and touch. I found myself leaning into it. He slowly leaned in, and his hot breath grazed the tops of my lips as I yearned for them to touch mine.

But just like that, a voice caused me to come out of the trance.

"Nandhini," Called the familiar voice. I stepped back from the handsome villain before me and turned left to find Baahubali coming towards us. I sighed in relief as my lips bloomed into a smile, but I needed the person before me to see his eyes stuck on my face.

Baahubali smiled as he reached us. "What are you doing out here? Devasena is looking for you," he said, and he turned to find Bhallaldeva looking at both Baahubali and me with his eyes narrowed. "Bhalla, you are here as well?"

I slowly moved and stood behind Baahubali, but I could not stand straight with the eyes of someone like Bhallaldeva directed towards me. I could feel my legs becoming jelly, so I leaned onto one of the Constance I found in this place other than Deva, Baahubali; he smiled at me and let me lean and hold his hand. I am not sure why, but my action caused the young Prince before me, whose face now has something I can't quite place, like anger and something else.

Something then I didn't realise would cause the destruction I witnessed through the screen.

Note: I recently started an Aemond x modern AU OC, and then today, after completing my Beast out of him series, I got an idea on implementing a same-time travel, of our OC travelling from the modern world into the world of Baahubali and what if our famous Villian Bhallaldeva already obsessed with our OC since he was a child, he always dreamt of her, she is his guidance and support system. But what happens when she gets thrust into this world and has to live among the characters she watches on the screen is real, with the obsessive Prince always on her track. Kachina’s name is funny

Its 2 am and i cant stop thinking about this and i need to get it out bc every single time i look at her name i think of this and can’t even enjoy the storyline aaaaaa lmao

So! We’ve seen that genshin has a history of making up the most bizarre names ever, like idek what happened after inazuma or if sumeru’s names are this funny (idk much about the region it’s inspired in so forgive me for being uneducated), BUT, i do know this: there’s a poor npc in fontaine literally called Book, just Book, wtf genshin, there’s a lot of npcs and pplcalled weird things, and with Natlan that’s wven more obvious that while genshin team does great stuff for plotlines and inspiration for each region, they just say WHATEVER WHEEEEE for names. Bc, who calls themselves/their children Boba? Like wtf?! I’m not even mad about it just why??

I play the game in spanish btw, and Boba is like calling yourself silly or stupid, a friend told me that the English equivalent was also something along those lines so we know this is on purpose? Again wtf lmao

Then there’s the npc called Umi, isn’t that ocean in japanese? And said npc is from the ocean tribe dont get me wrong, if we want to make an accurate “inspiration” from America (America is a continent, ill throttle the person that says its a country thanks) it makes sense to have lots of names that come from different places bc we do have a mix of cultures that resulted in today’s life, but it doesn’t make any sense in Natlan’s whole description, bc these ppl are described as ppl that don’t go out of their country at all? They do receive visitors and i imagine one or two would probably want to stay but it’s still strange, noted, Umi is not the only strange name i’ve seen but i dont keep a notebook with all of genshin’s lore/plot/naming/etc holes bc i would have to make it a full time job. So far a couple things make no sense to me, BUT ALSO! Natlan is culturally rich and filled with stuff i approve, i mean, i like it so far, the legends, myths and way of interaction between characters is rivh and meaningful, i especially loved a quest about a shadow needles bc it felt like revisiting old myths from my memory!

the main quest relating to Kachina is also very interesting and despite it being complete fiction, the way the underworld is constructed is also reminiscent of myths and legends - ik its not called underworld, sorry, its 2am i forgot the name - that place felt to me like one of the scary tales ppl traditionally tell each other but with a very Teyvat element mixed in, and that’s good in my book

there’s also the apparent mix of maya, inca and aztecas in culture and storytelling? And its also true that America has more stories about wars and warriors known to ourselves and the rest of the world? I’d probably have much more to say about this if i had slept, but there are no towns named Fighting soul in my country for no reason, which i find funny and sad af bc wars are shitty excuses to steal and do awful awful things, but whatever. There’s also the way they captured the behavior of ppl in the coasts, kudos to them for that, obviously things irl are not always that good or pretty and some parts of America do have a lot of poverty bc corruption is also shit, but it is true that ppl (i’ve met) in the coast is much mote laidback than in the city, more prone to random music and parties and dancing, big big parties too, the surf part i have never seen in my country so no comments there

some stuff (like the food) is a bit so so for me (im still wondering where shrimp tacos were invented wtf, there’s also too much corn which i find hilarious), and im not even gonna talk about the saurian stuff bc his post is already long enough without talking about Kachina

anyways! in general i really liked it.

now, why is Kachina a weird name for me?

the thing is, idk how many countries with spanish as their main language would have this two problems (or three…maybe)

nunber 3 and less important is the K, it’s overused in Natlan and i find it funny bc many ppl here use the c instead, the k it’s actually more rare in names unless your name is Katheryn or unusual (i once heard the name Ikza and I believe its cool, just not common)…just a thought but: Quinich sounds too much like Quiche so that’s why ill allow Kinich but the qu is way more vommon

number 2 the Ka is just fine, but the China. I just…China is a countey and I can’t help but think of it! Especially bc in spanish it aounds the exact same

number 1 and my biggest concern wity her name, and this is way more personal but I JUST CANT UNSEE IT! In my country we sometimes refer to young ppl as chino or china which is also the way to call ppl from China (probably not coincide but I haven’t researched why this happened to the slang in the first place) so maybe when someone is not listening to you or when they are being tricky or hot headed its bot rare flr someone else to say “¡Este chino/a!” Like saying “this little troublemaker!” Or smth like “¡esta china no hace caso!” Which means “this girl won’t listen/obey!” You could even say “la china de allá” which would mean you are pointing to a girl that is most definitely not chinese but it’s in your field of vision

its not used to denigrate anyonebut it is commonly used as slang by both adults and kids, sometimes even elderly will use it but in more informal situations…

this is why, it feels so damn weird to keep reading and hearing Kachina, sometimes i think im reading ‘pa aca china” kinda “come here kid” and other times im reading the equivalent of ka-girl

I obviously don’t blame the developers or genshin team for not knowing this (i do blame them for Poisson-Fish, Livre-Book, Boba-Silly, etc etc) but i just cant unsee it, even in serious situations its so weirdly funny and awkward

WELLLL IF YOU INSIST... twirling hair evilly. so first up fabiniku is short for a manga series Fantasy Bishojo Juniku Ojisan to. translated to. deep breath. Life with an Ordinary Guy Who Reincarnated into a Total Fantasy Knockout. or other such translations. dont know if you know what fabiniku is so we're gonna explain it wheeeee.

so basic plot, maybe inferred from the title. these two guys in their 30s are like best friends who often go out drinking and go to mixers and all that and one of them is all like. i wanna get a giirrrlllllfriieennddd <- drunk in the bathroom while his friend comforts him. hope youre already recieving the shirashiro mindbeams. two hopeless romantic friends etc etc. and then. i forget exactly how we get to this but drunk sopping wet pathetic one (tachibana is his name) ends up saying like. i just wish i was a girl! or something to that effect. which catches the attention of an otherworldly god who takes it so literally and brings them both to this fantasy world in which tachibana has been turned into a drop dead beautiful and cute girl and his best friend is just still in his office suit. (jinguuji is his name). shenanigans ensue! highly recommended its so fun and interesting and subtly(?) queer. central themes of love and saving people. theres traumatic backstories and everything. really recommend just reading it.

BUT. shirashiro slots soooooo well into this setup it makes me genuinely sick. shirahama and tashiro still going to mixers from their office jobs because they just cant land a goddamn girlfriend. shirahama drunk and sick in the bathroom, tashiro with a hand on his back and throwing his arm over his shoulder to walk them home. shirahama, drunk, wish i was a cute girl! drop dead gorgeous! at least people would love me. transported to a fantasy world, shirahama gets to turned into a cute girl, not that tashiro is necessarily jealous, thatd be silly. she is really cute though. and shirahama, girl, shorter than tashiro for once, looking up like. has he always been this cool...? wait who said that.

theres also this whole bit where tachibana, girl, is a bit cursed with being so pretty that it literally charms any men in a however big radius. which jinguuji does sometimes fall victim to and it shows a little [<3 charmed] effect above his head. putting things together in my head This is also a bit like dating sim au. anyways. and theres this whole inner turmoil like Wait she may be cute but i know hes really just a guy. guys im so bad at explaining thiinnngggsss theres so many facets. read fabiniku.

theres also just so many moments in fabiniku that just line up. theres a bit about jinguuji letting his hair down and it was insanely tashiro coded. theres the way jinguuji is so observant but reserved. the character developments make sense. really truly just read fabiniku with shirashiro in mind and youll see it.

also like. look at them. come oonnnn.

Obviously you should prioritize yourself first (god knows we all have sooo much good fic of yours to reread), but it leads me to a question I’ve been too shy to ask 👉👈 how do you feel about recursive fic about your fics/characters? Would you be ok with us sharing it with you/others, crediting you for the creation of such good characters of course? Hello and good morning! Or afternoon, I'm not sure. I'm drafting this answer over a late breakfast because I got a precious day of sleeping-in and I'm still thinking deeply about it.

Firstly: I want to hug you so tight (if you were down) because this is wildly sweet and flattering, thank you so so much for reaching out at all even just about the works, but the wishes that things smooth out are highly appreciated ;-; We're looking… solid? Right now? But there's still so much up in the air and hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I won't bore you with it, it's not the reason I'm drafting this out.

ABOUT RECURSIVE WORKS [very long, read under the cut, tl:dr summary at the end]:

I would love it. I would genuinely, honestly love it, with the caveats that you laid out that proper credit would be given (thank you so much you lovely beautiful soul), that it be clarified wherever it is shared that it's based on characters/settings/storylines of the current works, but truly importantly that it would clarify that the works are actively still being written at this time.

That's my biggest hesitation, if I'm being honest. The stories are both at this time unfinished (they are all unfinished, I am a creature with heavy need to process things through writing and, quelle surprise, I am never truly finished processing anything, new shit just needs to get processed, wheeeee) and being that they're unfinished, there's a chance that any recursive work could hit on a scene/plotpoint/moment that I've already got plotted out for the future. I'm not Neil Gaiman or anything, I'm not planning to make money off of this work, so it's not my concern that you or anyone else is gonna turn around and try to sue me for stealing something or whatever-- that's not the problem. I just don't want you or anyone to feel at that point that the effort you put into something was then copied and put in the main work or something.

It's an odd situation. The odds of it actually BEING a problem I know are astronomically low, but I didn't get to where I am today without chronically overthinking everything.

I love that you have a desire to create, and I do not know who you are-- I don't know if you already have projects and characters of your own and just want to branch out with something familiar-but-new, but I want to encourage you to use this energy and focus for writing all the same. If you can put it into your own works, hell yeah, but also: yes I would be flattered if you used my dorks and their silly little worlds. It's just the concern where I'm not finished with the stories yet. I just am, again, overthinking and overworrying, likely, but if I could stop doing those things then life would presumably be easier.

I would be absolutely down for like, experimental works I believe is the best term for what I'm looking for. Characters and stories based off of my works that are wholly new. Want to write a refracted AU about Melinda and Hank in Space? Fuck yeah, yes. Though I mentioned this to Zip and they immediately told me No, We're Doing That One and we laughed about it for a hot minute, so maybe not exactly those names hahaha

I guess another question here is, if you were to put in the effort and the focus and the pride of writing something based on my characters, of a scene you had in your head, and got through the beauty and pain of creation to get it down and then put it out there, how would you feel if something similar then happened in the main work? Not the same, not based on what you did, but that similarity still there and still noticeable at least to you. Like if someone had written (before I had posted them) something similar to Melanie being involved in a Naval battle, even though I have the receipts that that arc was written in November of 2022 and only finished posting in September 2023, I don't know how they would feel to still see that like, a similar idea had been there.

On one hand, personally, I love being in the G/t community and reading other people's works when I have the spoons and focus and time to do it, because I love that something as simple as "small person falls and big person catches them" permeates the ideas so often, and what that can mean to dozens of different creators. Refracting the same light through a diamond and watching the facets all scatter it differently, etc etc. It's beautiful. It makes me happy. But that's a personal thought, and I know how deep and personal writing can be. I know how much the process of creation can mean to the individual. I don't want you to go through that, to write something beautiful even if just for yourself, and then think in some possibility later that because I did something similar I was trying to do it 'better' or whatever. It's not the case, it's never the case.

So, after chatting about this with people I love in this community (I love you Zip and Kelly <3), I think the solution is: If you want to chat with me about the like, basic bare-bones of the ideas you might have just to give me a heads up, and I can let you know if it's something that'll be in the main works soon and if I'd rather you wait on something, or if I'd go 'oh fuck yeah, go ham', I would adore to chatter away with you about it all regardless. I'd love to chatter with you about writing in general! My characters, your characters, whatever. I'm down. Please feel free to hit me up and I'll get back to you whenever I can <3

[TL;DR]

When it comes to recursive works I'm interested and open to them provided they're not something major/heavy I'm planning to tackle too soon in the future canon, as the works are still being written and posted. I am always down to receive DMs about writing, and would prefer to get messages about the recursive fic ideas (as vague as you'd like them to be!) just so I can give a quick yes/no on if it's something I'd rather you wait on until I can get it out myself, or whathaveyou. I don't see this being a huge problem, and if you're good for chatting then I'm positive we'll have a good time with this <3

Writing recursive fics for my existing, in-progress works means agreeing to the caveats that credit be given to me and the existing works, and clarifying when posting that the fic is not canon and the works they're referencing/possibly based on are still in progress/being written. It also means accepting that there is a chance that things tackled in your fics may be similar to things that have not yet been posted for said works.

When it comes to experimental fiction based on my characters, settings, or plot: hell yeah go full 50 Shades if you want to. File the serial numbers off of it and/or write something New Enough. It's what I did to Jonathan Swift, please feel free to do it to me hahaha.

I LOVE LUKE SKYWALKER. truly one of the most well written transitions from idiot baby teenager in a stupid hat to the guy with the most responsibility in the world galactic legend Luke Skywalker or whatever. u would hardly notice he’s changing but if u were to finish return of the jedi and loop straight back to a new hope he’s so changed….. i love u luke mwah

also star wars original trilogy has some of the best set/costume/prosthetic/puppet design of all sci fi. extremely immersive worldbuilding that no star wars since has been able to capture. i feel like a lot of sci fi reeeeally struggles with the type of environments star wars thrives most in, which is like. normal people settings. rural farming towns. random ass bars. etc. as opposed to super epic or grandiose or technologically impressive places. the people of the original trilogy seem very integrated with the technology they use. 10/10

star trek:

if ive said it once ive said it a million times i love when star trek characters stare directly into the camera and say shit like if ur racist ur not only evil but also stupid and embarrassing urself. the extremely earnest bleeding heart social justice warrior snowflake nature of star trek is so crucial 2 its nature and i love it and its great. i love the optimism but also thoughtfulness and caution of star trek. there’s a lot of work being put into conceptualizing a future earth society that has vastly improved since our time, but also a lot of discussion of ways that society might be limited or its failures and downsides. no matter how fanciful or dreamlike a piece of tech is they almost always consider the kinds of new problems it could cause (take the elevator and come out two people etc etc)

as for TOS i love the campiness the experimentality and the creativity. yes there are many episodes of TOS that are batshit insane and notttt in a very good way. but thats because almost no two episodes of the show are the same/similar. dozens of sci fi writers contributed to this show that was, timeline wise, still pretty early on in the existence of our modern definition of sci fi. they were throwing shit at the wall and seeing what stuck and thats why it ended up creating so many foundational sci fi concepts!! and also. wheeeee shapes and colors. they had a ton of plywood some felt an eyebrow pencil and a dog in a hat. and a dream. and it looks so beautiful and silly. nothing will ever top the TOS mini golf course ass planets

as for TNG i do genuinely like that every episode has like 17 simultaneous plots. they never ever take the easy way out with TNG plots and most episodes end in a way u could never have predicted from the first 15 minutes. as a show its very averse to simple solutions and easy answers and i like that the characters are frequently making decisions that are difficult-to-impossible. but mostly i like all the silly outfits they put them in. now see them as detectives now see them as cowboys now see them in macbeth. a dozen 45 year olds that all value amateur improv more than their own lives. now see them play poker. now see them ride horses. these people genuinely work like 3 hours a day and spend the rest doing fuck all i love it. re: a society that has vastly improved since our time. we should all be doing tons of improv basically

as a special treat for doing my work i'm throwing my hat into the "is Echoes a good sequel" discussion WHEEEEE

Story-wise, some people think it's weird but personally I love that Echoes is a sort of "quieter" mission in between the big galaxy-changing plot-heavy adventures of MP1 and Corruption. Samus is still mulling over everything she discovered on Tallon IV, quite possibly weighed down by the fate of the Chozo who died there. They spoke about her by name in the lore scans* and yet her efforts did nothing to help them. They couldn't; she came along far too late. So now she's called to Aether, probably still grappling with all she learned on Tallon IV, and soon enough she's presented with a chance to do what she couldn't on her previous mission.

The parallels between the Chozo and Luminoth are indisputable, with the Luminoth on the brink of meeting a similar fate to the one the Chozo met in the game prior. And with the Luminoth, Samus got there soon enough to prevent it from happening. This time she can actually save someone!

Although I don't doubt she would have done it anyways (<literally trapped on Aether if nothing else), I really think Tallon IV and the fates of the Chozo were a big motivator in her lending a hand to the Luminoth. She went to Tallon IV and it made little difference, with the Chozo who looked to her for hope long dead before she got there, but she went to Aether and emerged having made a world of difference to the dying Luminoth. Samus then enters Corruption with new resolve that she can make a difference; her efforts are worth something. I think this victory helps to carry her through Corruption to an extent.

That's what I think Echoes is tbh. Samus proves to herself with this mission that her efforts have a tangible impact. In many ways, Echoes feels separate from the other two games but I love how it feels like both a respite** from the stuff we encountered in MP1 and the calm before the storm of Corruption. most importantly it brings her into the final part of the Phazon saga with a new mindset after the very ambiguous victory on Tallon IV.

*in the gamecube version I played. still so salty they retconned these in the Wii trilogy they were my favorite part of the game ToT

has some issues w self esteem (which tango & impulse didnt know when they did their silly bit for the moonlight 'auditions' and it made zed feel rlly bad but they all talked abt it and became fast friends after that)

grew up in a hardcore world which is part of the reason she loves doing fun experiments pertaining to deaths (there were some a lot of panic attacks after deaths the first few times she died and every time theres a new season of hc and she dies theres still always some panic even though she knows & trusts that everything is set up fine but yknow growing up in a hardcore world does shit)

^ in relation to that only skizz, tango, and impulse know abt that fact bc zed doesnt wanna tell anyone else and the only reason those guys know is bc of the aforementioned panic attacks

doesnt join in w the life series games bc of the actual dying even though she doed think it would be fun and silly and shed get to see skizz more and have fun w her friends

her & skizz are somehow the closest pair outta team zits and hang out w each other even when the others arent there, she spent a lot of the time when the hermits went to empires just hanging w skizz instead
