Long-running shows with shit constantly going on are fun because the amount of "it's a long story, it makes sense in context, but anyway" kind of shit just keeps piling up. You have a ten-season show and halfway through the protagonist has been married three times. First marriage got anulled, second time her wedding was interrupted by a shootout with the goal of kidnapping her, third time she just grabbed her man and hurried to get the papers signed before some shit happens again. She has no ex-husbands. Every time she got married it was to the same man.

And then in a completely normal scene someone else is like "you left your daughter with her grandmother? Didn't she hire a hit on your wedding?"

And the protagonist is like yeah but it's chill now, back then she didn't know that the protagonist's three-time husband was her long-lost son. Whom the protagonist once kept chained to a wall in a ship for like half a year to try to torture information out of him. Their relationship was complicated.

The Princess Bride is such a funny book to read after ONLY seeing the movie. Like Goldman made up a fake author from a fake country and proceeded to write the book as an abridged version of what the fake author wrote... and then he proceeds to add in notes to the "abridged version" mentioning all the boring world building stuff he skipped because it was boring.

Like shout out to William Goldman, man really did make an entire book that is just "the cool scenes you thought of in your head" and then made up a fake author to abridge so he doesn't have to connect them.

And it slaps

Y'all need to stop worrying about canon so much

Honestly, the Digimon fandom was kinda always bad in regards to the entire "canon" question, but oh boy, since that Beyond thing has come out, things got a lot worse.

Basically I see a couple blogs popping up every day going something like this:

Is tri. canon?

Is that epilogue canon?

Are Kizuna/The Beginning canon?

Is XYZ canon?

And as I said, Adventure-verse fandom was always kinda bad in this regard. Because while the first two movies were kinda canon, the canonicity of movies 3 and 4 is kinda doubtful. You can make it fit, but it fits not perfectly.

And then there are the Ryo games that absolutely do not gel with canon whatsoever, but a lot of people REALLY want to be canon.

Folks. You will never get a satisfying answer to those questions. Because in the end media is not created for us to have foundation to write fanfics on. It is created to a) make money and b) to entertain. And it will shift over time. That is fine.

Really, I am begging people (not just in this fandom): Stop worrying so much about canon. Take whatever you like and use it. I absolutely believe in your ability to make it work.

Again: The wonderswan games are 100% not canon, outside of the fact that indeed Ryo existed in the Adventure/02 verse and travelled the Digital World with Ken. But he did not have V-mon or Daisuke's D-3. There was no D-1 Tournament. And so on. But I freaking love the asshole D-1 Tamers. So I will figure a way to shoehorn them in.

Same with the Drama CDs. Their canonicity is doubtful. But fuck you, I love Natsu. I will use her in my fics. Same goes with Chizuru, Momoe, Jun and so on getting partners.

Does tri. gel with other stuff in this canon? Nope. But if you loved it or just love Meiko or whatever... Yeah, go ahead, use her. It is fine. Don't worry. Also, Ao3 has tags for all of this. Including "Ignores the 02 Epilogue". It is fine.

Fun fact: Despite Digimon's English dub inconsistent religious censorship, it was the first time I heard the number 666 was the number of the beast. And I grew up in a moderately religious household, so I would have had the opportunity to come across it before. But nope, Digimon. I think the dub may have cut out it being from Book of Revelations (not that it would help much), but it has been a long time so I couldn't be sure.

No, transform is reasonably accurate. Evolving is what happens to a species over generations. One creature by itself does not change drastically to something new as evolution. That's metamorphosis. 🐛-> 🦋 (This has always been a nitpick for me. I think it may be a translation and cultural difference on understanding the words because I don't just say this for Digimon.)

Japanese Child -> Adult -> Perfect -> Ultimate

English Rookie -> Champion -> Ultimate -> Mega
