"Every Sophont is a Seed" is a really good HDG fic. Sarah rages like a force of nature, her resistance to the Affini is incredibly strong-willed and really feels like a proper fight (despite, you know, the inevitable). There's good reason for it too- to be THAT much of a fighter, you can't just be intelligent and stubborn, but genuinely, well, mentally unwell and destructive. The arc is going to be a long and richly deserved one.

Also it's hot, also it's regularly updated.

40k in 42 days, day 42

Hello writerly friends!

You did it! 

No matter if you wrote 10 words, 10k words, or 40k words! You're a winner! You set out to write and you did it. I'm so proud of you. 

Give yourself a pat on your back and tell yourself how amazing you are. 

Today we celebrate, and tomorrow we do the work again. The secret purpose of this event was for you to develop a habit. To find out how you can fit writing into your life and find the points of time in your days where you can fit writing in.

I hope and I believe that this challenge helped you in finding your own process. We may not be done, maybe not ever, but we know more now. 

I'm going to continue working on my story and I hope you will too. Tell me, what did you accomplish and what do you want to achieve next?

What's coming up for this blog?

Well, next is fictober24 (@fictober-event), I'm working on the prompts right now. And then? I'm thinking of running 40k in 42 days again in February and March. I haven't quite decided on the dates. yet. Don't worry, I'll post about it here before I decide. Let me know if you have a preference. 

But enough of planning and looking into the future. Today we celebrate!

Ways that Astarion is the best boy:

1) The way he so swiftly started to set and reinforce boundaries once the tadpole made him free of Cazador’s control. Honestly so heartening and inspiring. 10/10 best boy behavior. This is #1 for me because it is so important in regard to him and his partner feeling safe in any relationship that might develop.

2) The way he is open to exploring his trauma and how that has effected him (his triggers), and again, looping back around to the boundaries, how he is willing to take action to protect himself.

3) His insistance that he be respected, even though deep down I think he doesn’t always think all that highly of himself, still he demands that other’s respect him, even when you can tell it is hard for him to break the habit of just sucking it up and doing something he doesn’t want to and then dissociating through the whole thing.

4) the way he is open to gentle correction from his partner once trust is established. Oh he’ll still be slightly bratty about it, but he will say thank you, or whatever, when told he should. So good!

5) The way he is willing to end a relationship rather than stay in one that isn’t working for him, or where he isn’t being respected. He has examined his own limits and boundaries, is open about that, and is willing to end a relationship if or when it’s run its course.

6) He’s sassy and funny as hell. And yeah, a lot of that persona is a mask he wears, but it’s still great. I don’t know, maybe it’s a me thing, but I find it sweet and charming as hell how he always has some sassy thing to say about everything. He makes me laugh more than any character in the game.

7) The way he softens and calms with his partner, the safer he feels. He’s so skittish and snappish in Act 1, but that’s calmed a lot by the end of Act 2, unless he is directly triggered.

8) The way he speaks up for himself when you finally encounter Cazador (f*ck that guy) in Act 3. Astarion really does so beautifully there given everything he’s been forced to endure at Cazador’s hands and given the fact that Astarion himself, admits that he used to be a fawner and freezer with Cazador. But this time he speaks up and fights!

9) The way he wants to discuss how he feels after Cazador is finally dead. How he admits it doesn’t feel the way he thought it would, a bit hollow, and that he needs time to process it all.

10) How determined he is to start over and contribute to building a new life with his partner post-Cazador. And given everything you see from him in the rest of the game, I really do believe he intends to put his best effort in.

friendo I have a theory

I hope you won’t hate it

it’s about what happened to Nicky in the basement I think I figured out what happened to him down there

I don’t think your gonna like what I think it is

It’s Aaron

Aaron has been the one hurting Nicky down there

and I have so much to back this up

first off

let’s take a look at nicky

he’s completely out of it definitely not in the right mind set

he keeps taking about stuff like he’ll keep playing games if he doesn’t get hurt again

now who would be playing games down there with him?

definitely not Mr Peterson (I think) he’s a fully grown man

only a child would want to play games (I’m pretty sure)

who else could be down there in the basement that’s a child

now why would Aaron hurt Nicky?

well in hello neighor hide and seek we see that after Aaron’s mother dies he becomes more angry more controlling towards Mya

eventually leading him to push her off the roof

and if we assume that Mya already died (I’m pretty sure she did)

then that death would’ve hurt Aaron even more

it would’ve made him even more mad

especially after getting lock up in his basement by his father

He also must’ve been in that same room with nicky (the one with the fake windows)

it may explain the dolls that are torn in that room too

Mr Peterson must’ve gave them something to play with

so he gave them dolls he had (cause they were the only dolls he had)

but instead of playing with these dolls Aaron got mad he tore them all up to take out his anger on something else besides nicky

or the dolls could be torn up cause Aaron wanted to make a mask with the dolls materials

why would Aaron be the one making the mask Nicky wears?

well I think he made the mask for nicky cause he no longer has his sisters doll to play with

In the games we see Mya has a doll that represents Aaron and hers mother

Aaron after their mother dies takes the doll from Mya

he’s using it as a coping mechanism to deal with his mothers death

but since he (probably) no longer has that doll with him down in’t he basement he needed a new doll a new toy to cope with

that’s where Nicky comes into play

the mask Nicky wears represents him being a doll a toy to Aaron

he’s no longer a person to Aaron he’s a plaything

that’s why he gave that mask to Nicky

why would Nicky even wear it?

well we see Nicky say short sentences like “wrong! Wrong way! Not right!” Or “all wrong no way out”

these sound like things Aaron must’ve repeatedly told him

he must’ve said things like “that’s the wrong way” or “that’s not the right way” to Nicky to get it stuck in his head to get the message across

basically teaching Nicky to obey him

otherwise Nicky would get hurt

so he must’ve told Nicky that it’s safe when he wears that mask

that it’s safe in the room nicky stays stuck in

he wouldn’t wanna be alone down in the basement again

so he must’ve told Nicky that going up stairs was wrong

or that could’ve been mr Peterson telling him to stay in the basement

could be both

also another thing is that when the rescue squad managed to knock down the fake windows Nicky knew exactly where to go

Nicky must’ve knocked those down before trying to escape

or trying to set Aaron free

cause when he gets to that crow door

he repeats “open the door” over and over

He’s saying that cause Aaron has called to him multiple times telling him to open the door

when he sees trinity trying to go through the door he panics

why would he tell trinity to not go through the door

maybe cause he doesn’t want trinity getting hurt too

After he tells trinity to not open the door he says over and over “I'm sorry”

he’s scared cause he told someone to not set Aaron free

he thinks Aaron’s gonna get mad at him for that

that he’s gonna hurt him again

Why he asks trinity if the game their gonna play is safe

is probably because Mr Peterson has told Aaron and Nicky the games they play are not safe and punishes Nicky in some way

or it could be Aaron saying that cause he doesn’t want to get in trouble and get sent back to his own room for not being safe around the basement

like his father told him to

Mr Peterson doesn’t want Aaron getting hurt so he keeps him locked up in that crow room

but at the same time he doesn’t want him being lonely so he gives Aaron someone to play with

but still keeps him locked up in the fake windowed room

so he still doesn’t go anywhere but now has someone

This had awakened me from my fandom hibernation

I do like this theory but I think most of it will depend on how the show characterizes Aaron going forward and how similar it is to the books.

I was working with the idea that the crow room was where the guest lived, though Aaron being their could explain his absence in the show so far since based on the basic timeline he should still be chilling in the basement.

I think you're onto something with the dolls though, especially considering the importance of Miya's doll and how the show emphasized Nicky's mask.

This wasn't a bad theory at all and I certainly didn't hate it!

After reading back over pumpkin anon messages a few things are jumping out to me (other than what's already been said), 'down bad' and 'fresh out the slammer' are reminiscent of pumpkin anon's 2nd message where she gets out of the ice castle 'jail' and begins free falling without a parachute, not knowing what to do.

And their 4th message they say this is 'a story about the person behind the curtain' - Taylor is on the album cover with light shining on her, presumably from the curtains being semi-open.

🎃 That is the story these messages portray. The messy story. The metaphorical story. The true, but oh-so shrouded story. The story of the person behind the curtain. And the person that person loves fiercely.
