"A strong queen is just what this country needs!"
The Irish who know the queen in question as the famine queen:
#queen charlotte#queen charlotte a bridgerton story#bridgerton spoilers#a feminist moment for the ultimate anti feminist that was queen victoria#massive yikes just thinking of her involvement in the history of my country alone#over a million people starved & the British Parliament refused to accept financial aid from abroad#if they were offering more money than Victoria because they didn't want them to outdo the queen#and what she gave was pitiful considering her wealth#indigenous people as well as literal enslaved people across the Atlantic gave more financial aid than she did#yes bridgerton is fictional but the historical figures depicted had a real world impact#so much of which is still felt today#and just because Victoria was queen and not a king it doesn't make her crowning a win for feminism#Victoria historically was very very anti feminist#i don't know enough on george iii or Charlotte to comment on them but i know plenty about Victoria#haven't cringed so hard at a line since the famine episode of victoria the things i watch for leo suter#but as much as Victoria herself was portrayed inaccurately in that ep#at least it introduced the history of the famine to people who weren't taught about it at school#bridgerton

The act of achieving a goal brings with it grief of an idea you used to fantasize about; bringing it to reality means the loss of a dream. For an emotionally unstable person who used it as the very reason to stay alive, this loss can lead to the creation of far wilder and more deranged dreams to live on. I think this is Eichi's position in the second era, now hungering for more than just recognition and love as an idol. This search for an even greater dream to work towards resulted in the creation of idol colonies, a truly insane and worthy of criticism act. But imo it's not for nothing a big part of fine's stories have involved the unit trying to ground Eichi in the moment, to remind him of his original beliefs and dreams he has achieved, even those of his childhood. I'm critical of this arc as a whole as i dont know what's in store for it and how it'll play out and be framed, but i always do my reading of enstars with attention towards Eichi's mind as a catalyst of action, and see the whole story revolving around him. I am hoping the other characters' concerns and criticisms will manage to get through to him~ my emotionally stunted and unstable, struggling princess, turned cartoon villain...
#im also curious as the arc progresses how his monologue to tsukasa in white brim will impact things?#he shows great awareness above the other nobles of how colonialism played a role in the accumulation of their wealths#so did he convince himself the idol colonialism is different...or...not? and he's just doing it for the love of the game as they say#he's definitely become more and more concerning though#still my pretty little princess though. forever. even if i treasure ! more#well youve heard my opinion that i treat being a fan of es2 as a specific thing not interchangable with being a fan of es1#but there is worth in es2 as well. ive read roughly the same amount of stories from each#maybe because i got to experience them both on jp and eng servers in real time but es2 stories are perhaps even more imprinted in my mind#but i cant fault old fans for not wanting to carry on with es2 bc of how different certain things got

sorry this is a garbage take from the Clock App but we have to stop pretending art made by terrible people is less meaningful, complicated, or beautiful simply because the artist is not morally unimpeachable.
#kat talks#im not saying funnel money into the pockets of people who actively use their wealth to harm others-- ie JKR--#but rather that an author's moral purity has a tenuous relationship to the QUALITY of their art#rather than saying- after an artist is exposed- 'oh their art wasnt very good to begin with!!'#it's much more honest and helpful to say 'yes this art is important and impactful and ALSO the artist did xyz.'#we want to think bad people are this Other Secretly Inhuman group who cannot have rich inner lives and good commentary on the world#but that is simply untrue.

this is so poignant to me i can't even. + the fact that nino isn't wearing his glasses in the scene on the right as if to say that he is completely blind to the mechanisms of the world he will never be able to escape simply because he exists, but will be labelled equally incapable of ever truly comprehending its scale — in spite of endlessly discussing its impact. talking about the shop owners of naples suddenly proven to be entirely different from encountering them face to face, huh. something incredibly relevant about that.
#l'amica geniale#letters from stephanie*#the only time i ever feel an ounce of approval towards the solaras is when nino is in the room. at least they know who they are#and embody it completely. naturally the impact of their evil is significantly larger and worse on a more universal level#but on an individual level? they win a point from me when compared to nino#nino sarratore#michele solara#ferranteposting#it's devastating because this in-between state is what lenù lila and nino all have in common.#nino who left as a child elena who left as a young adult and lila who left to become signora carracci but never stopped being a cerullo#knowledge of wealth and poverty in both material and immaterial sense. but nino can never accept this#about himself and that exact sentiment is the origin of all of his evils. HE IS INSECURE.#look at him he can't say anything to michele... the smallest man who ever lived indeed

Behind F1's Velvet Curtain
This article by Kate Wagner on her INEOS sponsored trip to the Austin GP at COTA last year was commissioned by Road and Track magazine and then taken down. Presumably because Kate has was pretty staunch in her opinions about what was essentially a paid trip.
It is exactly the kind of thing I have wanted to read about the felt experience of the money business of F1. It doesn't get into technicalities and does not produce any spreadsheets for reference. It's just, her experience of the presence of wealth in the sport.
She starts off by talking about how she has been covering cycling and NASCAR for a while now and both of those, in comparison, are scrappier sports with smaller sponsors and cheaper tickets.
What I also especially loved was how fascinated she was with the cars themselves, and how they seem like a true marvel of human engineering. She almost described the cars like these alien beasts that came into this dimension out of nowhere and were being constantly monitored and dueled with to furnish wins and glory (and shareholder value for sponsors).
I think I always had an understanding of the weird myth making surrounding F1 and the kind of media attention it attracts, but someone like Kate (who I have loved reading for a while now) putting it into perspective really made it click for me. This sport thrives off of the kind of cocoon it has built around it and understands exactly the certain exclusiveness it needs to maintain to keep the story alive.
Anyway, give it a read, especially because Road and Track is trying to bury it to not piss off sponsors.
#I think matt oxley was talking about how motogp has been struggling with money and hence dorna is trying to woo the American market#and the american tech sponsors#but bikes don't require as much data driven performance engineering as f1 cars do#Ducati is probably leading the operation in this regard because they have audi behind them#anyway I knew motogp does not produce the same level of wealth but I still decided to check numbers#Marc's net worth is $25Mn and he is arguably the best driver of his generation with enough sponsors behind him#Max's net worth in comparison is $165Mn easily over 6 times that of Marc#Vale's net worth is $200Mn but he is still somewhat of an outlier because his popularity far outweighs that of motogp itself#Lewis is still around $300Mn and he hasn't even retired yet#Schumacher was around $800Mn#I know net worth is a very stupid number to consider but driver net worth is an easy way to translate impact ig#the current Max to Mercedes rumours caused Merc valuation to rise by $11Bn#Billion! 11 of them!#honestly I frequently get desensitized to money just purely as a number because I am exposed to businesses with large valuations but#I still wanted a moment to reconsider how much money rides on this sport#and how that ties to how rich people function#just made me remember that Ocon is the last driver from a working class background#Fernando and Lewis are the only other with working class beginnings and both of them are over 35 and ridiculously talented#its not a sport for regular people to break into#Vale also started with karts and had to shift to bikes#anyway I love Kate Wagner please read this#and talk to me about money and F1#Kate wagner#f1#formula 1#road and track magazine#lewis hamiton#mercedes amg petronas f1 team#Mercedes#INEOS

Let me just quiet my mind Incoming - a message from the Divine. Whispers - inspired this rhyme. Just when I thought I was out of time.
Our impact will be felt. Sacred Wisdom is real wealth. Healing our lands, improving our health. Learning to play the cards we were dealt.

i think it’s weird that displaying glee at random privileged people dying has become shorthand for how progressive you are, as if it demonstrates a level of enlightenment that is above having empathy for people who hold a level of privilege in the world and therefore are “the bad guys”
i also think it’s weird that freak accidents or instances of death are framed as “justice.” like how does a random billionaire dying lead to a more just and equitable society?
i ALSO think it’s weird that expressing any kind of horror at the circumstances of a privileged person’s death is framed as “simping for billionaires” or some shit. as if a personal emotional reaction to someone’s horrific death and the impact that death would have on loved ones precludes any level of class consciousness
#idk just some thoughts#also i do think it’s different when the person dying DOES lead to a reduction in harm#like people who openly advocated for the genocide of marginalized groups or who hold a judicial appointment and cause real systemic harm#i can see why people celebrate those deaths#but a random person who likely is not directly impacting anyone who is celebrating his death#and whose wealth will just get passed to whoever’s next in line? there is no real harm that is reduced in that situation#it seems like it’s just resentment politics tbh

Maybe the NVP writers felt it wasn't their place to incorporate these elements into their horror podcast which I fully understand, but it would be interesting to see a take on American highway horror that acknowledges most highways going through cities blasted through low income and Black neighborhoods leaving devastated communities in their wake.
#the KC downtown loop. which I loathe. smashed through a thriving Black business area#the destruction was so dramatic people nicknamed it the Kansas City Blitz#the impacts on destroyed communities shuttered businesses housing values and missed opportunities for generational wealth#continue to this day#trying to recall if ghostroads touches on this... I don't recall it doing so

The more I learn about Arlecchino, the more it solidifies the image of her just being a caring yet stern parent and a ruthless yet logical harbinger in my head.
#disregarding hoyos favourite child treatment of her#I'm glad we're getting a more nuanced perspective on her.#the teaser was a perfect recap of her character so far.#being caring towards snezhevna#deadly with the man who wronged her.#not hesitant to use his (wrongly acquired) wealth to her own advantage (lile a true harbinger)#and yet putting most of it into repairs and her own family.#like. do you realise she's literally the archetype of villain who would do anything for their loved ones?#and kill anyone for their own means?#ahem anyway.#just thoughts#oh also sets the image of her putting her kids above all else in stone.#tbh I don't see her dating anyone and this is coming from person who ships a lot of ships. .#father first and foremost#genshin impact

it feels the same as how autistic people with the lowest support needs who move through the world the easiest naturally get to dominate conversations about autism and are so oblivious to the concerns of others that their conversations representlike a negative social experience as on par with - or more severe than - concerns like medical abuse and care provision etc or else when discussing these issues centre themselves and obfuscate the fact that the people overwhelmingly at risk of being restrained and forcibly institutionalised and being unable to feed themselves and literally being murdered by cops are not you. so you can just be like "autistic people are more likely to xyz" and claim that conversation for yourself without being open about the fact that it is never going to be YOU just because u belong to the broad community in which these things happen -_-
#apparently sia was diagnosed with autism post-music and its like#literally makes no difference bc she was trying to tell a story that was nothers to tell#i think we are going to have to have a huge reckoning at somepoint with IDPOL and recognise that actually#how you move through the world DOES matter and like it doesnt make you 'not valid' but you can not be claiming to face oppression that u do#because u like. identify with it. and fundamentally ur identity should not in any way be predicated on oppression lol#also the impact of wealth esp wrt disability#and howmany of our conversations are being led by wealthy ppl who are really not representative of what actually goes on

Maybe it's just me but Nydas "fuck the gold, what matters is the people" moment didn't really shake me. I just felt he was that giving humane kind of person since the beginning.
Like he's doing favours to people all throughout the campaign - wands for patia, automata for Laerryn, negotiations with Loquatius, extremely concerned about Zerxus' struggle, the sorcerers' academy, the allowances, etc etc.
When that moment came I was like... ???? Are y'all surprised? He's always been about the people. I mean, definitely cheers because he (literally) slayed, but the way people talk sounds like it was so surprising.
Even the spell kite from his family, a greedy selfish guy wouldn't even care, especially not about a humble loaf of bread, his sister-in-law wouldn't be updating him on the kids in the first place if he hadn't shown care before.
#it sounds contradictory to put it like this. but it would've been a bigger impact had he driven into Nydas' greed#the hoarding dragon aspect#nydas was a giver. know what I mean?#tangled into shady shady business but rarely withholding the wealth#anyway#just my two cents#nydas okiro#exu calamity
