No offense to op or anything but u guys sound like my mom trying to convince me that arranged marriage isn't so bad when I was in middle school lol
Actually it's even worse bc my parents were actually sympathetic to the girlboss argument. By which I mean the "I want autonomy over my life" argument

Behind F1's Velvet Curtain
This article by Kate Wagner on her INEOS sponsored trip to the Austin GP at COTA last year was commissioned by Road and Track magazine and then taken down. Presumably because Kate has was pretty staunch in her opinions about what was essentially a paid trip.
It is exactly the kind of thing I have wanted to read about the felt experience of the money business of F1. It doesn't get into technicalities and does not produce any spreadsheets for reference. It's just, her experience of the presence of wealth in the sport.
She starts off by talking about how she has been covering cycling and NASCAR for a while now and both of those, in comparison, are scrappier sports with smaller sponsors and cheaper tickets.
What I also especially loved was how fascinated she was with the cars themselves, and how they seem like a true marvel of human engineering. She almost described the cars like these alien beasts that came into this dimension out of nowhere and were being constantly monitored and dueled with to furnish wins and glory (and shareholder value for sponsors).
I think I always had an understanding of the weird myth making surrounding F1 and the kind of media attention it attracts, but someone like Kate (who I have loved reading for a while now) putting it into perspective really made it click for me. This sport thrives off of the kind of cocoon it has built around it and understands exactly the certain exclusiveness it needs to maintain to keep the story alive.
Anyway, give it a read, especially because Road and Track is trying to bury it to not piss off sponsors.

Sentitu
Let me just quiet my mind
Incoming - a message
from the Divine.
Whispers - inspired
this rhyme.
Just when I thought
I was out of time.
Our impact will be felt.
Sacred Wisdom
is real wealth.
Healing our lands,
improving our health.
Learning to play the
cards we were dealt.
~I.S.~
'Sentitu' means: to feel

i think it’s weird that displaying glee at random privileged people dying has become shorthand for how progressive you are, as if it demonstrates a level of enlightenment that is above having empathy for people who hold a level of privilege in the world and therefore are “the bad guys”
i also think it’s weird that freak accidents or instances of death are framed as “justice.” like how does a random billionaire dying lead to a more just and equitable society?
i ALSO think it’s weird that expressing any kind of horror at the circumstances of a privileged person’s death is framed as “simping for billionaires” or some shit. as if a personal emotional reaction to someone’s horrific death and the impact that death would have on loved ones precludes any level of class consciousness

Maybe the NVP writers felt it wasn't their place to incorporate these elements into their horror podcast which I fully understand, but it would be interesting to see a take on American highway horror that acknowledges most highways going through cities blasted through low income and Black neighborhoods leaving devastated communities in their wake.

it feels the same as how autistic people with the lowest support needs who move through the world the easiest naturally get to dominate conversations about autism and are so oblivious to the concerns of others that their conversations representlike a negative social experience as on par with - or more severe than - concerns like medical abuse and care provision etc or else when discussing these issues centre themselves and obfuscate the fact that the people overwhelmingly at risk of being restrained and forcibly institutionalised and being unable to feed themselves and literally being murdered by cops are not you. so you can just be like "autistic people are more likely to xyz" and claim that conversation for yourself without being open about the fact that it is never going to be YOU just because u belong to the broad community in which these things happen -_-

This is all because someone said that tim being wealthy DOES impact his character. Like the ppl in the screenshot are defending the idea that tim should be written as middle class and even claimed that plot points about/made possible or exacerbated by his wealth have nothing to do with his characterization bc they’re plot points and not character traits. They also previously said there’s little to no mention of his wealth whilst also trying to say his wealth doesn’t matter because it’s just “new money” (which I’d argue adds a LOT of context to the drakes vs the Waynes but that’s into analysis territory and I’m not getting into with someone who said plot points don’t impact the character 💀)
Anyways the main point of the post isn’t just to clown on them I just want y’all to take that final tweet into account; “They come and take only what they want, they don’t like to delve into the great character that is Tim.” On a post saying Tim being rich doesn’t matter and has nothing to do with his character. Tim Stans I’m not saying this is all of you, but this group of y’all is sooooo. Let’s be nice and say weird. That it makes y’all look bad. When they’re saying “they pick and choose to ignore his character” in order to defend picking and choosing to ignore his character…have a group meeting or smth yall. This is crazy.
