THE HOLMWOOD FOUNDATION NEEDS ITS DRACULA!

We are on the hunt for a voice actor to play the role of Dracula in our upcoming pilot/season one of Horror Fiction Podcast The Holmwood Foundation.

Actually, Bram Stoker’s Dracula

Frustrated that a good Dracula adaptation doesn’t exist I just made my own movie poster for the movie that should exist but somehow doesn’t!!!

Another thing: Murnau's Nosferatu is about a lot of things, but one of them, fundamentally, is the nature of film itself. It's a film about light and shadow, about the physical medium of film, about what it can be pushed to do and how.

Herzog's Nosferatu enters into that conversation with Murnau; it is about Murnau's film and what it did to cinema and it is also about other things film can do in his time, that it could not or did not in Murnau's. It is also a film about film.

Eggers' Nosferatu is not this. He either chooses not to enter into this conversation, or he does not know how. Its use of shadow is referential and affective, not making a statement about the medium.

Which is a fine thing for a movie to do! But making a Nosferatu and not making a film about film leaves it feeling rather like something important is missing.

I love Sister Agatha's voice!!! The subtle smile in her voice when she says "He has won all hearts by his sweetness and gentleness.", I could cry.

It kinda stresses how much longer the postscript is than the actual script ijopegr. Possibly she couldn't focus with Jonathan awake, asking if she's remembered to tell his boss that he was a good boy and apologizing for having no money to pay for the hospital and did she tell Mina he loves her yet?

When I saw this, my first thought was : "Ahah! Proof that Agatha was is an immortal!"

And, from here, my mind kind of flipped...

So, she didn't die on the Demeter;

Zoe never existed. She was her 21st century cover identity;

The cancer was fake and she wasn't really dying. It was a very elaborate plot to entrap Dracula (obviously). Don't ask me how and why : I am not in Agatha's mind!

Oh dear! Now that I have this story in my mind, it won't leave me alone! Someone has to write it!

I've talked about it in some tags, but I'm thinking more on it, and I really do believe that there is something.....mmmmm supernatural and particularly gothic going on with the impersonation game Dracula is playing.

The eerie supernatural double was actually a very big theme in gothic literature as well as folklore of the time. Hell, two very famous deaths (Abraham Lincoln and Percy Shelly) have doppelganger sightings attached to them (although whether or not they are true or just added on postmortem to further sensationalize the event, I do not know).

Basically, you or someone you are close with seeing your double (whether that be a doppelganger, ghost, evil twin yet unknown, an actor doing a supernaturally good impression, etc) was a very ill omen and often one of death.

Not really sure where I'm going with this, but tl;dr Dracula impersonating Jonathan isn't just a part of his grand plan to isolate and drive him to rely on Dracula, but in fact a long standing trope of Gothic literature likely tied to the inherent horror that your own identity can be taken from you with nefarious results.
