"I ship them because of canon" You follow me, so you know that I'll ship many things for a multitude of (even flimsy) reasons, but it truly is their canon best friendship which persists through the ages that drew me in. It's like the Sor1ku of the Sonic franchise for me. Canon best friends, their relationship is shown off quite a bit, they're a classic duo, they fill the gaps in each other and balance each other out, plenty of gay subtext for me to dig into.

"Deranged" Self explanatory

"I just want them to be happy, is that so much to ask" Bit of an amendment here. "Together". Happy together. Of course I want them to be happy separately, but I truly think their home is within each other, that they're better together than apart. So I just want them to be happy, I hope their bond continues to be unbreakable.

"I ship them platonically" Basically all of my otps and a good chunk of my ships at this point are queerplatonic. I marked this both to make that clear, but also so I could say that I also heavily ship them in a platonic manner too (just not in a sibling way)

"I ship them because of canon" This is the ship that did me in. Their canon dynamic, their potential, the way their relationship was woven into the narrative. They made me think and feel so many things I swan dived into the Sonic franchise I became a fan of it. They were one of the major gateways into me becoming a Sontails fan. I have a billion unwritten essays about them. I also have posted a bunch of essays related to them. Which is to say...kind of evident at this point I think😂

I just read the entirety of The Book of Bill with my friends. We read it out loud in the darkness using a flashlight and signed all 4 of our names in it. Haven't laughed so hard in a while (and then almost cry, but that's later)

Heavily recommend it if you're a Gravity Falls fan.

Still recovering from Bill's backstory. Rambling ahead Heavy spoiler alert. He was loved, he was 12, he was the only one in his 2D universe able to see on 3D, he just wanted to show them the stars. And now he doesn't even remember what the fuck he did, only the chaos, the screams, his shaking hands covered in blood and then nothing at all, just a glitchy void in his memories and his universe being gone. And he carries the last spec of his dimension in his hat, and CONFIDED to Ford and showed it to him. And when Ford asked what killed his dimension, he froze before saying "a monster", he sees himself as that. Fuck. ALSO when giving the reader advice on how to seduce someone he said to (paraphrased) "lock them in a pyramid and sing to them until the fall for you" which is what he did to Ford, he also said to gift them rats, which he gave Ford too, the book is full of shit like that, motherfucker guided and interrupted the reader all the book but specifically never interrupted Ford's pages, and when threatening to kill him if he didn't open the portal, he gave him 3 days to do it, which ruined his plans in the end, and he said he doesn't know why he did that, but implying he did it because in some twisted way he cared, the same way he still offered him to join him during weirdmagedon even after the whole betrayal thing. And when Ford cut tied with him, he got hammered and asked the cashier, while heavily drunk, for "one sixer, please" and cried when they told them they had no idea what that was, later taking the phone from the cashier on a call with 911 to say (paraphrased because my book is in Spanish) "Hi, mom, it's billy, i want--- i'm coming back from school soon, remember to cut the crust of my sandwiches or i'm--- where did everyone go? WHERE-". His mom called him Billy, HE WAS BILLY, and since he was the Pines twins's age when he destroyed everything, he assumes he's just that age when talking to her, coming back from school. And now he's in therapy jail? And i don't get if he's totally dead or if he's a ghost, he aparently can reencarnate if he heals, but he fucking hates therapy jail, and he's getting desperate to get out, and he doesn't... look good. Can't believe i feel actually bad for the triangle. I'm- jeez, I can go on for hours. Bill Cipher having feelings (and a crush on Ford) was not on my 2024 bingo card, but i fucking love this book. God I missed that guy so much.

tl;dr i need help paying rent and health insurance this month. with the money from my recent paycheck, all i need is $263 (usd) to cover these expenses.

i hate to ask for money all the time but idk what else to do.

this month (august) was supposed to be great for getting my finances in order. i would be getting paid 3x, and i had a system that worked.

unfortunately things didn’t work out that way. this month has been the worst month this entire year:

the main issue is i caught covid (after 4 years of never having it once, i succumbed to people’s uselessness and having to go in person to work) and that kept me out of work for a week. the mini vacation was “nice” because my symptoms weren’t too bad, but the looming fear that i wouldn’t have enough for rent has now reared its head.

the week before, i already took 2 days off because my partner was informed their abusive father had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and that sent them spiraling. he hasn’t kicked the bucket yet (ig cockroaches don’t die easily), but from what they said that week they thought he would pass by that sunday.

this past wednesday, the stress of their not so great extended family reaching out + grappling with this ended up with my partner having to go to the hospital for (tw) excessive vomiting—unable to keep water down and extremely dizzy. we were discharged that night thankfully once things calmed down and they are technically fine, just still resting and trying to slowly get back to eating normally. the drs weren’t able to determine what caused any of that to occur, but our current theory is just stress and not eating enough so stomach rebellion. i had to miss 4 hours of work to take them to the hospital so, my next paycheck is also gonna be short but not too terrible overall. i’m not really worried about it.

i don’t want to bore you all to death with all the details of all my other debts and struggles that i’m dealing with rn. i just want to illustrate how this week just fucked me over really badly. i’m currently the only one working between us bc my partner is disabled (and got denied disability for them last week so cool cool. love this country love it here).

Was waiting until ep 4 to ask but for the character opinion bingo thingymajiggy could you do bon (the spirit/evil murder robot ) if you haven't already

Oh my god, Bon. I love Bon so much. I'm so glad that I love Bon so much.

Bon, the animatronic rabbit, has over the course of the couple last years become one of my favorite characters. At this point, he's right up there with Jenny and Sophie. So when we first got that Findjackwalten "Bon" reveal, I was very... apprehensive? For me it was just really underwhelming. I honestly think my biggest complaint was just that, aesthetically, he was so much more boring than Bon, the animatronic rabbit. I love Bon. What I didn't love was this like, clip art character. He was just a guy? Like a human guy? He didn't even look fun. There was so little there to sell me on the idea of Bon as a character. It's funny, though, since I really think part of what frustrated me was that the part that made Bon an Evil Killer was divorced from him being a rabbit. Which is a really silly thing to say, but I just honestly hadn't expected there to be any 'form' of Bon that came aesthetically separate from the mystique of the rabbit animatronic. And I love rabbits, they're my favorite animals. (Well, hares are, really. But rabbits get to share the love.) So it was a very petty kind of upset.

But oh my god, seeing "Bon" in this episode has totally turned me around. Like wow, he is fun! He is aesthetically interesting! Which is why I've written that 'so relieved' point on top of the one that usually says 'wasted potential'. I'd had an idea in my mind of what "Bon" would be since we saw that "Bon" text on Findjackwalten in fucking January of 2022. That's a lot of time to stew in your thoughts. If "Bon" ended up being something I wasn't happy with, I was gonna be really disappointed. But I wasn't!

It's been really fun learning to attribute some of my favorite aspects of Bon, the killer animatronic, to "Bon", the white ghost, because they are effectively the same. I can't help but find him really cute, honestly? I love his girlish mannerisms. I love his penchant for.. Fashion? I say this remembering one of the old entries on the Martin's Secret Lair findjackwalten page. His love of music? Y'know, obviously he kills people and is evil and manipulative. But he does it cutely. Definitely the rabbit aspect is doing something to endear me.

Beyond that purely emotional endearment, I'm genuinely very interested in him as a character as well... It's a little hard to talk about, though, since my feelings are so new and so poorly thought-out, honestly. But something I've been thinking about for a while is his relationship with Rosemary... From how I see it, he seems to have a strange sort of infatuation with her. He calls her Rosie... he puts her in Sha... Less objectively, his little shrine to her in Souvenir seems very elaborate to me, at least relatively. And assuming the "Rose broken. Will fix you" dialogue is diegetic and we're meant to think that Bon spoke to Rose before killing her... Well, it's just very interesting to me that he seemed to try to explain to her what was going on. It's really fucked, honestly, and it's something I'd really like to know more about. His conversation with Susan in 4 makes me think his criteria for killing people has at least something to do with, like, whether or not he likes someone. Really really fucked and really, really interesting.

God there's really so much to say about Bon... But I'm nervous too, since I don't really know how well I can articulate what I feel. It feels a little like there's warring factions in me, between the Me that thinks the animatronic serial killer is so Silly Cutesy and Me that's really horrified by and invested in the Lore and Context behind everything that Bon, as a character and narrative force, is actually doing. Not that those feelings necessarily can't coexist. The way he talks to Susan is so unsettling to me... it's strangely tender, honestly. Like a genuine attempt for comfort, despite the context. I feel like I have a million little half-observations to make, but none of them amount to a full thought. Bon is really fucked! I'm so happy that I find him actually really cool and interesting! I want to take him clothes shopping and feed him Tchaikovsky records. Martin said he liked Classical music but I think that's. well not Wrong but inarticulate. I think he's a Romantic girl. He loves some Beethoven. Some Liszt. whjat am i even saying anymore

It was a pure accident that Luo Fei and Lan Xinjie knew each other, and that the lady came to Cen Zimo with questions about a possible accommodation for her friend was a sign from the heavens. Luo Fei wasn’t convinced of course, but the argument of 'practical arrangement' swayed him in the end.

Technically it's not Luolin for it features an outsider POV of another deriv that has romantic plans re: LF, but let's be real here, I wouldn't break up Luolin for anyone so it's Luolin through and through. Sorry, Cen Zimo. (I am not)

Summary:

Yeah, I wrote it mostly for crack reasons, but also to appreciate that while there are some similarities between them, SW and LNS are very different, as are LF and ZYL - it is a bit of a love letter to BY and Z1L's acting abilities, dressed up as a crack about a university jumping dimensions, just like Pratchett would have wanted

Lin Nansheng follows him either way, until he encounters an unexpected complication in the form of Luo Fei.

October 2024 Plans!

Now feels like a great time to say wow, I really didn't plan for this burst of inspiration from back in... June? to go on this long. Anyway, I'm here to say it is still here. Still Voltron, still primarily Keith. Still really stuck on that series idea.

I thought editing was going to go well last month, but I got started and was not feeling it. So now it's more of a "when it gets done" goal. To hold myself accountable, I'm still gonna include the remaining list of fics to be edited on these monthly goal posts. At least I'll have to look the work I'm avoiding directly in the eye on a regular basis as I procrastinate by writing.

for the character opinion bingo, i’d like to throw in jamil (just for fun hdjdj) and/or kalim :0

Ty for the ask Ian! (and for enabling me for some more Jamil thoughts because they do be coming)

Uhh let's start with Kalim tho before I get rambly.

Honestly for how entwined Kalim is with Jamil, I don't really think about him that much. Like I definitely don't feel like I have a firm grip of Kalim's character below the surface. He is a total sweetheart, though, despite his cluelessness, and being one of the faves of one of my friends definitely always earns extra points.

A precious boy, basically, who I feel like yes is in a very complex entanglement with Jamil, but does not deserve too much blame for the situation being what it is.

Now, for Jamil. Unsurprisingly he got a few more matches on the bingo sheet.

I wish I could circle that beast unleashed for an actual (almost) bingo but idk, sure you could make an argument for it for book 4 and stuff but it just doesn't seem like the right vibe (or perhaps I just don't know what vibe that square is going for to begin with).

Partial circle on the headcanon square because yes I think about him a lot but I don't feel like I go for headcanons that much? Like it's more about canon things, extrapolating from there, or just "wouldn't it be neat" kinda stuff, if that makes sense.

(Or maybe I just think my opinions are so obvious I don't even recognize the headcanony nature of them, y'all can be the judge of that).

I feel like there are folks in the fandom who do have some curious opinions about him but I've done a pretty good job of surrounding myself with like-minded folks so I'm good.

My canon denial mostly goes for the tragedy of it all, like yes Jamil's situation sucks but how about I just focus on happier things instead (yeah good luck to me with that).

Partial silly for the good old passion for dancing overtaking him and stuff like that. And when he's just ribbing his schoolmates. Because then there's also those parts of him that are anything but.

I don't think anyone would disagree that he's a bastard. I mean, book 4, masquerade, we know how much (that is, little) he cares by default.

Kiss and bite are mayhaps kinda related and do not even begin to cover the range of desirable actions but I'm just gonna leave that at that.

Also like sure red and black are also the dorm's colors, not just Jamil's, but come on, those are definitely my colors, too.

Tho I do tend to prefer silver over gold, but anyway.

And as much as I have my problems with snakes, the way the hood suggests a snake and all the other little details are just so cool.

And don't even get me started on his hair and the hoodie under the school uniform and all those little things he does with his looks to push the envelope (oop is this actually a headcanon?) and to have a more personalized look while staying within what's required/expected of him.

Happy Pride!!

GUESS WHO GOT A BINGO!!! Hehe. I have been kinda neglecting this challenge a bit cause life got hectic but I'm back with this fic of my Total Drama OC Skylar with his boyfriend Kai (@samgiddings' character). This fic chronologizes their first (and second) kiss, and then their first date! Feel free to follow our blog for these OCs (@teadocs) for more fun moments!

Skylar had opted to skip the party that the people in the program were throwing for New Years and was heading back in the direction of his dorm when he felt a hand on his shoulders.

“Crikey!” He muttered.

“Skylar,” the familiar voice brought a smile to his lips. It was Kai, the guy Skylar had spent a lot of time with during his stay back in Australia.

“Hi Kai,” he looked over, “What’re you doing? Thought you were out with the others.”

“I got a roadie,” Kai held up the two beers in his other hand, “For both of us.”

Skylar nodded, “Well I’m going to hang out in my room.”

“Can I come with you?”

“Yeah,” he nodded.

Kai smiled, walking along with him, “Not really getting on with the other blokes?”

“It’s not that. I’m not much for partying anyhow. Even my friends at home knew I was kinda a buzzkill.”

“I’m sure you weren’t,” he reassured.

Skylar shrugged, “I don’t know.”

Kai nudged him playfully, “Don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re a great guy.”

He smiled softly, “Ta Kai.”

When they made it back to Skylar’s dorm, the two of them went in. The living situation was pretty nice, Skylar shared a room with a guy named Rocky and the two of them shared a living room and kitchen with two blokes named Hunter and Jack. But all 3 of them were out having drinks to celebrate with the others.

Kai sat down on the couch, flipping on the TV to the New Years countdown which read there was still 30 minutes left. Skylar sat beside him, taking the beer that Kai had gotten him and taking a drink.

“So, you got any more interesting stories about working at the zoo?” Kai said with wonder in his eyes.

On one of the first days, Skylar had gotten paired with Kai for a task which he was used to doing at home so he kinda took the lead on it all, leaving Kai to ask about what it was like to work in an actual zoo and not just the petting zoo he was used to. Skylar had told some funny stories about things that happened and every time, the way Kai’s eyes lit up made him happy so he kept going.

“Well, there was one time I was going to check on the hippo exhibit cause Peter, the guy who usually goes to clean up in the morning was running a little late, and I walk in and one of the hippos had pulled out a huge chunk of the grass we keep out for them and it was just everywhere.”

“A real dog’s breakfast,” Kai chuckled.

Skylar chuckled. His whole family was Australian, but there had definitely been a lot of new terms he’d learned in the 2 months he’d been here.

“So I’m like crikey! What happened here! And I had to go grab the rake and get it all back in the feeding area and I found one of the baby hippos had laid down for a nap in the grass.”

He awed, “A baby hippo.”

“So I just let her have her little nap and cleaned around her,” he smiled.

Kai took a sip of his beer, “That’s a bonzer story, Sky.”

“Thanks. I know you like hippos so I thought you’d like it,” he nodded.

Kai smiled, “So tell me more about your life at home.”

“Like another zoo story?”

He shook his head, “No. Like… What else do you do for fun?”

“Oh,” he shrugged, “I mean I’ve been on Total Drama a couple times.”

“Total Drama? Like… the TV show from when we were little?” Kai raised his eyebrows.

He nodded, “Yeah. They did a reboot of it and I was on seasons 3 and 4.”

“Crikey! That’s so cool! Is it as fun as it looks?”

Skylar chuckled, “It’s kinda fun. But it for sure has its downsides.”

“I bet,” Kai smiled, teasing, “Is that all? No more secret hobbies?”

He shook his head, “No, not really.”

“You… got a girlfriend?”

“No,” Skylar shook his head, “Girls aren’t really my thing.”

“Boyfriend?”

Skylar took a sip of his beer, “No. Why?”

Kai was quiet for a second and Skylar followed his glance to the TV. 3 minutes left on the countdown. He looked back at him, raising his eyebrows.

“I think you’re cute, Sky,” Kai explained.

Skylar’s heart started racing and he could feel his cheeks turning a little pink, “You do?”

He nodded, “And if it’s alright with you I’d like to kiss you at midnight?”

“K-kiss me? Is that a thing people do?”

Kai chuckled softly, smiling, “Yeah. You ring in the New Year with a kiss. Doesn’t have to mean more than a kiss if you don’t want it to.”

“Oh,” Skylar swallowed hard, a little nervous as he continued, “Well I think you’re… cute too. But I- I’m not- I haven’t ever dated anyone so I don’t know… I might be bad at it.”

“Not possible,” Kai said reassuringly, “So is that a yes? I can kiss you?”

Skylar nodded, glancing at the clock as it started to count down. His hands got a little sweaty as he watched it.

“Skylar?” Kai said.

He turned to look at him as the people on the TV cheered. Kai slowly leaned in for a gentle kiss. Skylar kissed him back, a little more hesitant. When they broke apart, Skylar smiled shyly. He’d never really understood the phrase for having butterflies in his stomach but as he looked over at Kai he started to get it.

After they kissed at New Years, Skylar freaked out. Okay freaked out was too loose of a term. He had completely lost his mind. Because these harbored feelings he’d had for Kai came to a bursting realization all at once. 

And it got to the point where he couldn’t even bear to be in the same room as Kai, because the second he looked over at him and caught him looking at him, it was like his stomach flipped and his face turned a bright red. He didn’t know what he was supposed to do, just like he hadn’t really for the entirety of this internship.

He’d made the private decision to keep some distance unless in group settings so he would be able to avoid… whatever that was. And it was going well. Okay scratch well, it was simply going. Kai and Skylar were teamed up to do a project together, which left them spending a lot of nights at one house or the other working on it together.

And that’s where they were tonight. On the couch in Kai’s living room. Sitting in a bout of awkward silence while they individually worked on their parts to this… rather dumb project if Skylar was being honest. There was no purpose, besides making him spend hours in the same room as Kai, trying his best not to make eye contact cause every time he did? Well…

“What do you reckon this has to do with working in a zoo?” Kai asked, looking down at his laptop, “Do you have to pitch ideas for events with the zoo to do?”

Skylar looked up from where he was gluing something on their posterboard, “What? No. Nobody is gonna ask us to do that.”

“Really?” Kai asked, looking at Skylar, “You never pitched stuff for your Canada zoo?”

“I kinda just got told what to do,” he shrugged, feeling his chest tighten as Kai looked at him so he dropped his gaze, “It wasn’t…”

“Interesting,” Kai muttered, looking back at his laptop.

Skylar pressed down on the picture as if it hadn’t already been firmly stuck on the poster, just wanting to do something with his hands while he waited for Kai to print out the words that were supposed to go across the top.

Kai stood up, going over to the printer and grabbing them and for a second, Skylar was alone and felt a bit of relief. He felt like such an idiot. Kai liked him! Kai had liked him enough to kiss him at New Years. And he’d gone and been weird and ruined it all. And now he was completely screwed over. Now he was the one with feelings, and Kai… well… he probably hates Skylar now.

He came back into the room, handing Skylar a pair of scissors, sharp end out. He instinctively went to grab the handle instead of the sharp end, to be safe, their hands touching probably a second longer than they should’ve. Skylar could feel his stomach flip again, his heart racing a little as they made eye contact, Kai’s eyes flicking down to Skylar’s lips.

He took the scissors and started cutting out the letters, putting all his focus on the paper in front of him as he gathered his thoughts. They sat there, the only sound breaking the silence was the dual noises of them cutting out the label for their poster.

“Whi-” Kai started but Skylar’s one track mind and anxiety cut him off.

“Do you like me?” His eyes darted up to Kai’s, trying to gauge his reaction. Facial reactions were always really hard for him to make out. From what he could tell, Kai looked surprised. There was a pause before he responded.

“I- Yeah. Why?”

Skylar could feel his mouth completely dry out as he continued to blurt out exactly what he was thinking, with no filter, “Because I like you. A lot. And I’ve been freaking myself out about it and I’m sorry. But we’ve been sitting here for the last twenty minutes doing this stupid project and all I can think about is kissing you again.”

If his face hadn’t been red when he asked the first question, it sure was now. He took a deep breath.

“Sky…” Kai had an unreadable look on his face.

“So can I? Kiss you I mean.”

A smile came to Kai’s face, “Yeah.”

Skylar set his scissors down, cupping Kai’s face in his palm, taking a calming breath as he shut his eyes and leaned in to kiss him. And while he’d been nervous up until this moment, the second he felt Kai kissing him back, the nerves melted off him.

As they broke away a few moments later, Skylar cleared his throat, “Uh. So what now?”

Kai chuckled, “What do you want, Sky?”

“I’d… like to maybe go on a date. Would that be okay with you?”

“That would be more than okay with me,” he smiled, “Should we get back to the project?”

Skylar chuckled, “Maybe.”

Skylar stood in front of the closet of his dorm in Australia, staring at the clothes hanging in it. He had a date. A date. One that he initiated! That still blew his mind. How had he gained the guts to do that? He barely recognized himself.

He pulled out one outfit, looking it up and down. It was cute enough, right? He put it on, standing in front of the full length mirror hanging on the back of his door.

He was startled as a knock came from the other side, “Sky?”

“Yeah?”

“Can I come in?”

“Uh, yeah,” he nodded, opening the door to spot his roommate Rocky standing on the other side, a bottle in his hand.

“I heard you have a date tonight,” he seemed a little surprised.

Skylar nodded timidly.

“Do you wanna wear some cologne? Chicks dig it.”

His face went bright red and he shook his head.

“You sure, mate?”

“I’m sure,” he swallowed hard, “I don’t think I’ll need it.”

“Alright then,” he patted him on the shoulder, “So how’d you meet her?”

The more Rocky spoke the more he realized nobody here knew that he was gay, except Kai. Shoot.

“Work stuff,” he shrugged his hand off.

“Work stuff. What? Is she in the program?”

“Something like that,” he bit his lip.

Rocky’s face lit up, “Well crikey! Who is it? Poppy? Riley?”

“Uh,” just as Skylar was about to admit it, the doorbell rang, “I’ll get it.”

He went to open the door and Kai was standing on the other side.

“You ready?” He grinned at him.

Rocky came up behind Skylar, “Kai, mate. You come to see Skylar off for his big date?”

Skylar’s face turned bright red.

“Big date, huh? You’ve been telling people about it?”

“I didn’t te-”

“I heard it through the grapevine,” Rocky said confidently, “Apparently it’s someone in the program.”

Kai, playing innocent, smirked. Skylar cleared his throat.

“So um. I’m gonna go on the date. With… Kai,” he said timidly.

“Oh is it a double date?”

Kai chuckled, “No.”

“OHHHHHH! You two are…”

Skylar nodded, wishing he could disappear.

“Well, I hope you two have a good time. See you later, Sky. Kai,” Rocky nodded.

“You ready?” Kai asked again.

“Yep.”

Skylar walked awkwardly alongside Kai as they headed over to the restaurant he’d picked out. He looked over at Kai, who seemed to be on cloud nine, walking peacefully. How was he so calm about this?!

Kai’s gaze turned to Skylar and his eyebrows furrowed, “You alright, mate?”

“Mm? Yeah. Fine. Uh. We’re just about there.”

“Crikey,” Kai said jokingly, “And here I thought you were gonna ask to hold my hand.”

Skylar’s face turned bright red, “Uh- oh- um, is that something people do?”

“Yeah,” Kai nodded, continuing to walk, “But we don’t have to if you don’t want to.”

Skylar stood there contemplating what to do before he quickly walked to catch up with him, taking Kai’s hand in his. He turned to him with a smile, squeezing Skylar’s hand.

“I took that as a hint. Hope it’s alright.”

“More than alright,” Kai nodded.

When they reached the restaurant, Kai opened the door for Skylar, letting him walk inside. Skylar cleared his throat as he approached the hostess.

“Table for two. Under the name Witter?”

“Right this way,” she smiled, leading the two of them to a booth in the back.

“Two barramundi tacos?” the waitress said, carrying their plates over to them, setting them in front of them.

“Ta,” Kai nodded.

“Thank you,” Skylar smiled at the waitress, starting to pick up one of the tacos.

Kai did the same and they both took a bite.

“Mm,” Skylar moaned, nodding, holding a hand up as he chewed, “This is good.”

“See! I told you you’d like it. It’s an Aussie staple,” he grinned.

Skylar chuckled, liking how happy he was. It was cute. He could feel the butterflies in his stomach acting up. He took another bite, happily chewing.

“So, um, what else do people do… on dates?”

Kai raised his eyebrows, “Have you never been on a date before?”

Skylar blushed, looking down at his tacos, “Uh… no…”

“Oh,” Kai cleared his throat, “Sorry.”

“Why are you sorry?”

“Because I guess I just- you probably should’ve had a better first date.”

Skylar looked confused at him, “What? What do you mean a ‘better’ first date?”

“You know…”

“Kai I really don’t,” he started wondering if he was stupid and hesitated slightly before continuing, “I like you, Kai. A lot. As far as I know, unless I missed some major thing, that’s all you need for a good first date.”

“You like me a lot?”

Skylar fought the knot in his throat, “I do. So I’m having a good time. With you, eating these really good tacos.”

“Would you wanna do this again sometime then?” Kai asked, a smile on his face.

“If you want to,” Skylar nodded, “I wasn’t really sure… how you felt about me.”

“Mate, I’ve liked you for a while. I just didn’t think you were on the same page as me,” he chuckled, “But that definitely clears things up.”

Skylar chuckled softly, nodding.

Kai walked Skylar back to his dorm, leaning against the railing of the decking, “So… tonight was a lot of fun.”

Skylar looked down at his hands, which were running along the seam of his shirt, “Kai?”

“Sky?”

Skylar looked up at him and took a deep breath, “Would it be alright if I kissed you goodnight?”

“Absolutely.”

Skylar timidly stepped closer to Kai, shutting his eyes as he leaned in to kiss him again. Once again his stomach was filled with butterflies as Kai leaned into the kiss.

A few moments later, they broke apart and Skylar nervously licked his lips, “Uh. I guess I’ll see you at work tomorrow?”

“You will,” Kai nodded.

“Goodnight Kai,” he turned to open the door to his dorm, but then quickly turned back to kiss his cheek before going inside.

Kai chuckled, surprised, “Goodnight Sky.”

Thirty so far! 12 are Merlin and that is my only fandom I am writing for atm the rest are for dragon age and are from years ago.

Merlin!!! There is one Dragon Age fic I might eventually finish, but Merlin for the foreseeable future.

I got this one reader who hated on Gwen and believed Merlin deserved better in my Arthur returns fics because Arthur still mourning Gwen OBVIOUSLY Meant he would choose Gwen Over Merlin if given the choice. Which is not the case.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

There are Smut scenes in my Arthur returns fics and in treat me warmly fo far. I think I did okay and I got a lot better after having a gay beta who was like "you know that would hurt right, they have to do this first!" Basically, I'm borderline Aroace (And more ace then aro even) but decided when I started writing that my Merlin and Arthur would not be. Still, I've only included explicit sex scenes in long fics or if asked by someone requesting!

Uh, I'm pretty good at getting inside character's heads and dialogue. I like to think I am good at keeping cannon characters IC

November '23 SteveTony Fics Recap

This month was really rough. Not all the way through! There was just an undertone of rough over the whole affair with a few days verging into holy-fuck-this-is-rough territory. But! We still ball.

While I technically managed to write five fics this month, they're all 3k> each so I don't know if I'm too happy with the turnout. Total word count comes to only 10,521 words. Yeah :( Really not too happy about that buuuut it's alright! It's over now.

Tony takes a hit in a battle, and comes out of his surgery a little confused. Thankfully, his husband, Steve, is there to talk him through it.

First time I've gone back to it and I saw it's got 165 kudos! Wow! For a fic I really didn't give much thought and was intended to just, as I put in my author's note, "shake my hands loose", that's crazy! How lucky am I, ay?

GatheringFiKi Interest Survey 2023 - Results

Hi folks,

First of all, huge thank you to those who took the time to fill in our recent survey. We have now reviewed the results and have a couple of points we’d like to share.

1) The Headcount:

The first, biggest and most welcome surprise from the Survey is that there are so MANY of you! And most of you are new faces, which I think is just wonderful! Welcome, welcome, one and all!

The total of 23 people took part in the Survey (admittedly some of whom I have never seen take part in any events, but I have high hopes).

When I was leaving for my travels in September 2022, a similar Interest Survey presented a bleak picture, very different to today, with a number of people having clearly moved on (though not all!). Personally, I think it was the right call to accept and acknowledge that, re-subscribe those truly interested today, and re-focus my efforts and events targetting where it's actually wanted.

Please remember that if you ARE interested in taking part in our events, you can always ask to have personal notifications delivered to you whenever one is running - just message @linane-art

Of course, I am fully aware and very grateful that, apart from the folks taking part, there are also quite a few of you who consume the new content, read, watch, like, comment, reblog or just silently marvel and enjoy their (guilty?) pleasure. I love and appreciate you all.

No surprises near the top: 12 Days has just ran and is beloved by everyone and FiKi Week is like THE Gatheringfiki event.

Trick or Treat also ran recently, but I think you also have a particular penchant for everything spooky/autumny.

Drabble Challenges are quick and easy, and I think a natural choice for a 'top up' event next to the big ones. I wonder if those of you who haven't experienced the speed and the 'write off all your other weekend plans'-ness of this event will think of it. :D

DDGE surprises a little, because it's a big commitment of an event, but I guess maybe because we're not running the Raffle regularly any more, and it's a similar enough thing? Or like a Big Bang? And there's nothing else that promotes actual collaborations. Intriguing.

The Bingos - always heat up the temperature in the room. I think those of you who want them, want them like burning. I also think (looking at hit counts), that there are also many more of you who, ah, enjoy the fruits of our labours, but like... anonymously and silently :D So long as those are not ran too often, I think they're a blast, and it's been 2 years.

AUpocalypse juuuust about makes it, but I think it has a special place, as it's the one event where artists can participate easily and have a fully free reign of what they create.

Raffle is probably too big for the headcount we have, rec-type-events have not been popular for a few years now, Secret Admirers still out of favour (why???) and nobody liked Round Robins - fair enough.

3) Other Comments we got / possible New Events:

'A Dead Dove Event' - what is it, I've never comes accross it? Please message me on priv ;)

'Bring-A-Friend Event' - The incest thing will make some people uncomfortable, and those that check us out 'as a courtesy' are unlikely to actually get hooked. I think, by all means, spread the word if you know folks who might enjoy our fandom, but mostly it needs to be discovered on your own. Awareness of GF is the key.

'FiKi Bingo' - We already run 2 bingo-type events and a FiKi Week. I think that ticks both the desired format and desired content boxes.

'Valentine's Day Event' - there is nothing like that per se, but it is no coincidence that the Kink and H/C Bingos usually run around the time when everyone is feeling loved-up ;)

'I don't feel comfortable sharing my own content' - that is perfectly okay and your own choice. Nobody is going to try and push you. But I will say that if you have a supportive fandom, feedback can do wonders for your self-esteem and practice makes perfect. Otherwise, thank you just as much for your silent support.

'Discord Server' - I thought about it, but I think it'll be more of a problem than help. I don't know how to set it up, don't have the capacity to moderate it, only some people would be interested and many people will resist change. We've always said that Tumblr is our native platform and on Tumblr we will remain - don't want to dilute the fandom accorss multiple platforms, sorry.

'October Advent Calendar' - I'm sorry, I don't quite see how it would be different/better than Trick or Treat, except longer? Plus, 12 Days, which runs right after, has that element of 'something new to discover' every day ;)

'FiKi Mad Libs and Frankenstory' - see: Round Robins Event. And it scored 0 points, the poor thing :(

'Visual / phrase / poem / porny inspiration' - visual is addressed by 12 Days. Phrase/poem will be addressed by FiKi Week ;) Porny will be blocked by Tumblr :(

'Reblog-focussed Events' - Yes, agreed, but in the competition for calendar availability, all our rec-type events consistently lose out to out content-creating events. So we resort to caveating all our summary posts with pleas for reblogging and commenting. :/

I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the wonderful and humbling words of encouragement I’ve received. I do what I do because of the people in this fandom and I will continue doing so for as long as there is interest in it. It’s what being in a fandom means to me, and hopefully it inspires some of you too :)

I have totally not been meaning to post this for like, two months now, shhhhhh.

Anyways, I got a bingo on @feedthefandomfest's original bingo card! Been fun forcing myself to step out of my comfort zone, even if it's also been absolutely nerve-wracking. And it's even gotten me to be more confident in commenting on fics outside of the bingo! Once I get this one completed, definitely eyeing up the Old Fic bingo card (purely because I do not have the ability to keep track of two bingo cards at the same time, lmao).

Taking a page out of some other's books and making a little rec list of the fics I've commented on below the cut! Note that it won't be all of them cause 1) my memory is horrible, lol and 2) I wasn't keeping this list when I first started XD. Oh well, at least some fics will get some love!

"Towards the Rising Sun" by Potassium_Hypobromite A Shen/Zed fic set in post-WW2 Japan! Lots of angst, some lovely moments of Zed being Dad!Zed to Kayn, some interesting historical details and very little sugar coating of very real atrocities that happened during and after WW2, all set to the tune of two emotionally constipated men(/affectionate) trying to figure out their feelings for each other. Binge-read it in like, an hour and a half, 2 hours one afternoon and loved every moment of it.

Heads up, when I say 'very little sugar coating', I mean it. Japan did some seriously fucked up shit during WW2, and seriously fucked up shit was done to innocents, and this fic does address that (in a way that makes sense for the characters), so be warned if you decide to read it.

"algernon" by parsnipit A wonderful W.D Gaster fic in which said Daster Gaster accidentally creates a skeleton werewolf child (Sans), panics, starts figuring it out and getting a hang of the whole parenthood thing, then another very special boy (Papyrus) gets yeeted into the family kinda against Gaster's will but he isn't complaining. Also features some Grillster (these two take so damn long to get together and I blame Gaster for it, lmao). And really quick- omfg the motherfucking goddamn foreshadowing and setting up in this fic?? Just, like, AH! I won't spoil anything but like, hnnnagghaaa it's too goooooood.

Heed the tags! And the additional warnings in the author's notes! As good as this fic is, it does get quite heavy! Take care of yourselves people!

(A double here, since both were done by the same author. Have I talked about this series before on this blog? Yes. Do I care that I'm talking about it again? No. No, not at all.) "Spirit of a Guardian" and "Heart of a Dragon" by SilverlySilence (Both part of the "Heart of a Dragon's Soul" series by the same author) This. Series. This. Goddamn. Series When I say it 100%, completely and utterly, totally and without mercy RUINED ME, I am making a massive understatement. I was fucking DESTORYED when I finished reading this series (specifically Heart of a Dragon). When I say this is better than most published novels I have read, I AM NOT KIDDING. And it was done for free?? And it was all free?? *Screams* Basic summary, Jack gets yeeted into the past and ends up falling head over heels in love with Hiccup (same for Hiccup with Jack), but that's only like, 10% of it all cause so much of it is yummy, delicious, absolutely amazing foreshadowing, world-building, character friendship developing and so much more. My brain ceases to function when I read this series - you will laugh, you will cry, you will gasp, you will screech (I did this last one multiple times while reading it), just- read it. It's also more a action/adventure story with a romance side plot, especially in the first fic, so if that's more your style, give it a try! The last fic hasn't been updated in like 3 years? Maybe 4? But that's a-okay, life happens and it's all done for free so we shouldn't demand anything, and what we do have is good, delicious, nourishing food. (Side note, but Jack and Hiccup are just the epitome of a healthy couple in this?? Like, they're so understanding and respectful and caring of one another and also the trust they have in one another is so damn high and just- I am so normal about this series you have no idea)

"The Book of Rhaast" by KaynInfectedBrayn (CGotAnAccount) A very good fic about old god Rhaast meeting Kayn in a very not good situation. Very, very good.

There's a pretty intense amount of graphic violence, so be warned.

"Maces and Talons" by HijackSecrets and Kae_Viche Jumanji HiJack. That's- that's the best way to describe this fic, lol. Because that's what it was based on. It definitely deviates from the movie in a few ways but I'm happy with that. Loooove the subtle world-building in this, and it features some very good art!

"Claws and Calls" by HermesSerpent A very good Feral Hiccup AU, featuring overprotective brothers Viggo and Ryker! Honestly made me want more brotherly Hiccup, Viggo and Ryker fics, lol. Very good!
