So I was just watching SuperHorrorBro for the new Nightmare Critters thing for Poppy Playtime, and noticed this;

On Poe's little info card, it specifically uses they/them for the edgelord. And for anyone thinking that the info cards for all the Nightmare Critters uses they/them for them to, I dunno, make them enigmatic...;

(Just using Rabie Baby's info card as an example)

...that would be dead wrong. Now I know that I shouldn't jump to conclusions-

But did Mob Entertainment just give us our first they/them (and possibly non-binary) rep in the form of a edgy crow/raven plushie? (/j)

My Quick Thoughts on the Newest Nightmare Critter....

The fact the Poe, the RAVEN, isn't dark academia themed and that the references to the poem aren't more ham is killing me. Out of all of Edgar Allen Poe's works, this one is pretty close to the possible themes of Poppy Playtime.

Literally, the second stanza of the poem is as follows

Like, let me have this crow be dark and broody, but in a Victorian Horror Hero way, and reciting all the old school Victorian era and Gothic literature and nobody getting it except maybe Baba and Allister and leaving those two to play translate with various success (Allister using as few words as possible to explain or just giving his thoughts, Baba being slightly better at explaining but just done with everyone)

i.e.

Poe: Get thee back into the tempest and the Night’s Plutonian shore! Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spoken! Leave my loneliness unbroken!—quit the bust above my door!

[Smiling Critters stare in absolute confusion]

Baba: They would like you twerps to leave.

Allister: Ditto

I mean I suppose them being a raven is just cause everybody else in the "Nightmare Critters" are supposed to be the spooky/not your average critters to make into marketable plushies, but I feel like we're almost so close to something really cool and yet defeat has been snatched from the jaws of victory.

Also, their scent being cinnamon and not sandalwood, incense, or like the scent of an old library is such a copout. Like everybody's scent choices make me go "huh?" to some extent but this one has me scratching my head much more than the others.

I'll explain Poe and Bobby's backstory a lil

They were best friends when they were little, way before Bobby met any of the smiling critters. Poe grew with strict parents that always tried keeping them away from Bobby thinking she'd be a bad influence. Eventually their parents made the decision to move out and Poe was distraught over it, Bobby, though very young, stayed optimistic and tried to make it less painful for the little avian, promising to keep in touch and that she'd send them letters every day.

She forgot to ask where they were moving. Their promise was broken the day Poe left.
