I think one thing that makes my m/f ships work is that the woman is the exact type the man needs and vice versa.

Take IreJoou for example. Joou is exactly the kind of woman Irefumi needs: a strong, determined woman who is not opposed to a gentle touch. And Irefumi is exactly the guy Joou needs: a caring man who doesn't see her as just a body, but as a person.

Another example is GoldenThunder. Zahra is definitely a woman Ryan needs-- focused, successful, and self assured-- while Ryan is the type of guy Zahra needs.

Thought of a random Poe x Simon thing

Got it while re-reading Demon School Iruma kun

Simon is a narcissistic guy, and he’s a dragon so I hc him to be a bit greedy too. If he wants something he’ll get it no matter what.

Poe knows this. Which is a deciding factor for why they’ll never get with Simon.

The moment Poe returns their feelings with Simon, he’ll lose interest. So Poe strings him along, plays hard to get, and makes Simon desire them more.

Whenever Simon feels like he’s gotten close to them, Poe will then go further away. A never ending game of catch because the both of them are far too prideful to give up.
