yet he never stops loving. he simply doesn't voice it as much. but he is creature whose affections can not be contained so it shows in his actions against his will. he doesn't pick up on it but house does.

greg house, who keeps people away with acerbic language and an appearance of displeasure to the general populace. acidic and crude and shameless and self-preserving and self-loathing. he holds them at arm's length, within firing range of the catapults, never letting them spy the fortress walls let alone take a ram to them.

but he's not an android. he has a heart, has feelings, those he hides with teeth and claws like a wounded animal. when your heart bleeds, it takes very little for someone to deal a fatal blow.

they dance a terrible, beautiful waltz around the subject for years. their hearts ache. someone who wants to save another. someone who doesn't believe they deserve it.
