Although Bukit Canberra Hawker Centre publicly opened on 17th Dec 2022, mum had refused to patronize this place citing the need to walk as the reason. That is until the bus service she takes made route amendment and now there are a couple of bus stops nearby. So finally, one and the half years later, we are here for the first time. Mum likes the clean and spacious environment with plenty of stalls to choose from. Yet after one round, she still chose this dry style Wanton Noodles (S$4.30).

I looked around and settled for the Hotplate Omelette Rice & Chicken Cutlet Set (S$5.80). The dish came on a sizzling hotplate with an egg and rice pillow topped with sliced fried chicken cutlet and drizzled with chilli sauce. I think there are some onions below the rice too. You also get a bowl of soup and some kimchi. While it was a cheap eat, I wished the plain fried rice had some extra ingredients in it to boost up the flavours.

We have come a long way to have Asian ingredients stocked at the major supermarkets. There were simply not that many choices / food diversity at the major supermarkets compared to back when I first arrived here 16 years ago and you would definitely have to get these items from Asian grocers - which even then would be hard to find fresh egg noodles. Mum enjoyed the noodles at Tanjong Rhu Wanton Noodle (丹戎禺雲吞面) in Sembawang Shopping Centre so we are back again today. We had the exact same dishes as per the other day. Mum’s Classic Wanton Noodles (S$4.50) came with wantons in both soup and deep-fried forms while my Dumpling Noodles (S$5.50) had dumplings in the bowl of soup. The ketchup-based sauce served to highlight the springy noodles with tangy and savoury sweet notes.

The very first thing I had in 2025 is a delicious Chinese food!!

Went to Flushing Chinatown and had soup dumplings, Shanghai noodle, spicy sesame sauce wanton, smashed cucumbers and crispy scallion pancake with slices of beef!!

Everything we ordered was fantastic!! Been a while since I had really good Chinese food so I’m very happy now! 😋

Was even thinking about what I would like to order next time I come here while I was still eating 🤣
