I've casted some of the muppets for Heather's: The Musical. I wanted to post them somewhere, so I'm gonna post them here. Now I was thinking of having Miss Piggy as Veronica and Kermit as JD, but I started thinking about it and realized the role didn't suit them. So, I cast Janice as Veronica and Floyd as JD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was originally considering Crazy Harry as JD, but I thought it would be better if Floyd was JD instead. Now for the Heather's: Miss Piggy as Heather Chandler, Denise as Heather Duke, and Yolanda as Heather McNamara. Heather C suits Piggy so much more the Veronica and I feel like Denise would just really fit Heather D, Yolanda was more of a left over female muppet I just tossed in but the kore I thought about it the more it also just works.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, for Martha Dunstock, I went a slightly different route and cast Gonzo as her. I feel like it fits really well, if Gonzo was in Heather's, he would be the one to get bullies (I'm sorry Gonzo). I also just wanted an excuse to swap a gender role and that also fits Gonzo perfectly since I'm pretty sure he's cannons nonbinary so yeah.
Tumblr media
Now our definitely NOT gay jocks! Pepé the King Prawn is cast as Ram Sweeney, and Rizzo is Kurt Kelly. They are already best friends and just add some jock clothes, which Rizzo already dresses like that but still. Them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now the last two rolls I wanted to cast muppets in was Kurt and Ram's Dad's and who's better to play the role then Statler and Waldorf!
Tumblr media
I might do other musicals too :)
Enjoy~

The United States of TV High Schools
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The 2020 back-to-school season is a particularly complicated and emotionally fraught one. Students, teachers, and parents across the country and the world have to alter their usual education routines in the interest of social distancing and public health. It’s certainly a difficult, stressful time for many. But thankfully, that’s why the pop culture gods created television.
American high schools on television are much more consistent, comfortable places that the real ones, even when they’re being terrorized by monsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Satan himself (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), or worst of all: Samuel “Screech” Powers (Saved by the Bell). The landscape of fictional TV high schools is a rich and diverse one. But there are quite a few of them. And that raises the question: where are all these places anyway?
Here we have researched and gathered the location of every notable TV high school we can find. Some are set in real cities in real states, some are set in fictional cities in real states, and some are just off the grid entirely. So without further ado, here are the high school settings of some of TV’s most popular young adult shows.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Sunnydale California
Sunnydale High School
Sunnydale is a peaceful California town. It has all your usual features – nice people, great restaurants, a gateway known as the Hellmouth that connects our dimension to demons. Buffy and the rest of her Scooby gang attended Sunnydale High before moving on to University of California at Sunnydale. Sunnydale is fictional but is very likely analogous to the real-life Sunnyvale, California.
Saved by the Bell – Pacific Palisades, California
Bayside High School
Bayside High School is one of the most enduring concepts from Saved by the Bell’s four seasons. Some TV shows take place in high schools. Saved by the Bell is a high school show. The city in which Bayside resides is never revealed but filming occurred in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles.
The O.C. – Newport Beach, California
Harbor High School
The grandiose Harbor High School was enough to give many a young millennial in the mid-2000s supreme high school envy. Imagine walking around in the beautiful Orange County weather as Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie) and Seth Cohen (Adam Brody) reminisce about that morning’s perfect bagel breakfast. Newport Beach is a real city in California. Harbor High School is semi-fictional in that the new high school in Newport Beach is known as Newport Harbor High School. Private Catholic college Mount Saint Mary’s stands in for Harbor High on the show.
Teen Wolf – Beacon Hills, California
Beacon Hills High School
The fictional town of Beacon Hills, California is the main setting of MTV’s beloved 2011 Teen Wolf reboot. The town is supposedly named as such due to its “beacon” effect in attracting supernatural creatures. Many of those teenage supernatural creatures prowl the halls of Beacon Hills High School.
Veronica Mars – Neptune, California
Neptune High School
Neptune, California is one of the most well thought-out fictional cities in the high school drama canon. It has some detailed geographical features, a thriving local government, and even its own 90909 zip code! Neptune High has a similarly lived-in feel. Don’t forget to get those Pirate points, everyone! The real city of Oceanside, California stood in for much of Neptune and Neptune High.
13 Reasons Why – Crestmont, California
Liberty High School
Due to ease of filming, many fictional California high schools reside in the southern part of the state. Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why switches things up a bit by taking place in NoCal. Crestmont is the town named in the books the TV series is based on. In the show, the characters hail from the Evergreen County that surrounds it. Liberty High School is where the youth of 13 Reasons Why go to learn…and also learn devastating truths about one another.
Community – Greendale, Colorado
Greendale Community College
Greendale Community College isn’t technically a high school, but many within the show’s universe would argue that a degree from Greendale is basically on par with a high school education. Greendale has a rich fictional history dating back to the 1970s and including real life actor Luis Guzman as an alum. Community creator Dan Harmon based Greendale on his own experiences at Glendale Community College in California.
Gilmore Girls – Stars Hollow, Connecticut
Stars Hollow High School
Stars Hollow is crucial to the mythology and success of Gilmore Girls. The town is a fictional hamlet 30 miles outside of Hartford, Connecticut and was loosely based on the real life towns of Washington Depot, West Hartford, and New Millford. Series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is originally from Los Angeles and was inspired to set her new series in Connecticut following a vacation to the Mayflower Grace hotel in Washington, Connecticut. Stars Hollow High is where Rory Gilmore gets her education. The school’s sports teams are the Minutemen.
Stranger Things – Hawkins, Indiana
Hawkins High School
The Internet is flooded with queries as to whether Hawkins, Indiana of Stranger Things is a real place. It is not, and that is certainly for the best otherwise our own world would be teeming with monsters from the Upside-Down. Hawkins High School is the location of some truly traumatic events in Stranger Things from the Demogorgon’s destruction to the Snowball Dance.
Dawson’s Creek – Capeside, Massachusetts
Capeside High School
Dawson’s Creek creator Kevin Williamson intended for this ‘90s teen show to take place in his native North Carolina. WB executives had other plans, however, and wanted the show set in Boston. Williamson came up with a compromise by creating the fictional Cape Cod hamlet, Capeside, Massachusetts. The show was mostly filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. Capeside High School is where Dawson, Pacey, Joey, Jen, and the rest of the crew got their education…when they weren’t hanging out at that darn creek.
Freaks and Geeks – Chippewa, Michigan
William McKinley High School
Though many things in Michigan are named after the Chippewa tribe, including Chippewa County, there actually isn’t a city bearing that name. That makes this Detroit suburb on Freaks and Geeks entirely fictional. Chippewa is named after Chippewa Valley High School that creator Paul Feig attended. The school is named after 25th U.S. President William McKinley. For some reason, he’s a pretty popular choice for fictional school names…perhaps because his tenure in office was short and he doesn’t have a lot of real high schools named after him.
Gossip Girl – New York, New York
Constance Billard School for Girls
Well, this is a first for our list. Gossip Girl is set on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and its depiction of a gaudy all-girls high school is in keeping with that community’s ostentatious displays of wealth. Serena van der Wooden, Blair Waldorf and friends all attend Constance Billard School for Girls where many alumni go on to attend prestigious colleges. Constance Billard’s “sister” school is St. Jude’s School for Boys.
Roswell – Roswell, New Mexico
Roswell High School
This one is a bit of a layup as The WB’s (later CW’s) supernatural teenage series Roswell is adapted from the Roswell High book series. Of course, Roswell High School was always going to play a big role in this one. The 2018 reboot continues to take place in Roswell High School in Roswell, New Mexico.
One Tree Hill – Tree Hill, North Carolina
Tree Hill High School
One Tree Hill takes its name from a U2 song off of Joshua Tree…and also from the fact that it’s set in Tree Hill, North Carolina. Tree Hill is fictional but the show was chiefly filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina. Tree Hill High School is a big factor on One Tree Hill, especially since the town is so fond of the Tree Hill Ravens boys basketball team.
Glee – Lima, Ohio
William McKinley High School
For many of the kids on Glee, their biggest fear in life is never amounting to anything after high school and becoming a “Lima Loser.” This is because Glee is set in the (real) Ohio city, Lima, which is about 80 miles south of Toledo. Of course, as Glee went on, the Lima setting came to be quite ridiculous as more and more famous people just happened to be traipsing through town but that’s a topic for another time. The high school from which the titular glee club operates out of is once again William McKinley High School (like Freaks and Geeks and The Wonder Years).
A.P. Bio – Toledo, Ohio
Whitlock High School
Northwest Ohio turns out to be surprisingly fertile territory for fictional high schools. A.P. Bio is set in Toledo (which is a real place obviously) as a nod from the show’s creator Mike O’Brien to his hometown. It’s unclear why the high school that Jack Griffin teaches at is known as Whitlock but it’s got a pretty strong color scheme with gold and blue and a cool Ram mascot.
My So-Called Life – Three Rivers, Pennsylvania
Liberty High School
Three Rivers is a fictional suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And that’s fitting given that Pittsburgh sits on three rivers – the Allegheny, the Monongahela, and the Ohio. “Three Rivers” is often used in many brands from the city. Within Three Rivers is Liberty High School, which was attended by Angela Chase and friends. The My So-Called Life Wiki actually has a class schedule for each character if that’s something you might be interested in. Exterior shots of the school are of University High School in Los Angeles.
Pretty Little Liars – Rosewood, Pennsylvania
Rosewood High School
From one side of Pennsylvania to the other. Freeform’s pulpy teenage mystery series is set in Rosewood, Pennsylvania, which is a fictional suburb of Philadelphia. The setting might be loosely based on the real Rosemont, Pennsylvania. The Liars spend much of their time at Rosewood High School before matriculating to nearby Hollis College.
Boy Meets World – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
John Adams High School
Boy Meets World takes place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and its suburbs. The characters don’t frequently make mention of their surroundings and current city, but the show does confirm it…as if all the Flyers, Phillies, ‘76ers, and Eagles paraphernalia didn’t make it obvious. Boy Meets World starts with Cory Matthews in Jefferson Elementary before moving onto John Adams High School and eventually Pennbrook University.
Friday Night Lights – Dillon, Texas
Dillon High School
Once more with feeling: Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose. Friday Night Lights, both the brilliant NBC series and multimedia franchise around it, has deep ties to Texas. The show is set in the fictional western Texas town of Dillon (and eventually East Dillon). But Buzz Bissinger’s original book and the movie it was adapted into take place in the real western Texas town of Odessa. Both Odessa and Dillon’s respective football teams are known as the Panthers. Friday Night Lights, the show, did the majority of its filming in and around Austin, Texas for all five seasons. It’s a miracle the actors were able to stay in shape with all that barbecue floating around.
The Vampire Diaries – Mystic Falls, Virginia
Mystic Falls High School
A lot of these small towns have a “dark secret,” huh? Mystic Falls, Virginia’s dark secret is that it has a long history of vampires, werewolves, and witches dating back to its founding in the 1800s. Mystic Falls High School is where many of those attractive young vampires, werewolves, and witches get their education. Mystic Falls is a fictional town in Virginia located between Lynchburg and Charlottesville. It’s name in the Vampire Diaries book series was “Fell’s Church” but the TV show had to change that due to it being too similar to the real city of Fall’s Church, Virginia.
That ‘70s Show – Point Place, Wisconsin
Point Place High School
Point Place, Wisconsin and its accompanying Point Place High School are both fictional locations where Eric Foreman, Jackie Burkhart, Michael Kelso, Steven Hyde, Donna Pinciotti, and Fez all live and attend school. What’s interesting about Point Place, Wisconsin is that it does not seem to have a consistent location within the state. At times it is described as a suburb of Green Bay in the north. Other times, however, the characters are able to make it to Kenosha in the south in no time at all. Point Place High School is located at 2120 South Michigan Ave., which is a reference to a Rolling Stones instrumental track recorded at the same address in Chicago.
Riverdale – Riverdale, ???
Riverdale High School
Where is gritty Archieverse teen drama, Riverdale, set? Uh…well, Riverdale. Where is Riverdale? Your guess is as good as ours. Many fans have selected New York state as the most likely location. The series describes Riverdale as being in Rockland County. The only Rockland County in the U.S. is in New York, close to Archie Comics’ headquarters in Pelham, New York. Wherever Riverdale may be, the school that Archie and friends attend is Riverdale High School. Its colors are blue and gold and its teams are called the Bulldogs.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – Greendale, ???
Baxter High School
In the Archieverse canon that contains Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Greendale is a neighboring town to Riverdale, on the opposite side of the Sweetwater River. Greendale, like a shocking amount of fictional U.S. towns, is built over a mouth to hell. Baxter High School is Greendale’s local public high school, attended by Sabrina Spellman and her friends. Its sports teams are known as the Ravens and they are Riverdale’s archrivals.
Daria – Lawndale, ???
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Lawndale High School
What name could better capture the bland suburban ennui of MTV’s Daria than “Lawndale?” Lawndale is not a real place and Daria’s co-creator, Glenn Eichler, won’t even commit to setting it in a particular state, noting only that it is probably a mid-Atlantic suburb of a city like Baltimore. Lawndale High School is one of the most frequently occurring settings within Lawndale and where Daria and Jane go to stand around lockers and be cynical.

“It was in the Navy, that Kennedy likely further injured his back.  After the boat he commanded, the PT-109, was rammed by a Japanese destroyer and then sank, he helped save the lives of several of his crew...” (From the Live Science website)  President John F. Kennedy’s rocking chair, which he used at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, was displayed at the New-York Historical Society.  JFK used rocking chairs because of chronic lower back pain.  Of course, pain also affects the lives of ordinary people.  In January, I began to experience severe pain in my shoulder.  I was unable to use my left arm.  Thankfully, after acupuncture and exercise, I’m feeling much better.  During the most painful period, I could relate to these lyrics: “Even the simple things become rough...” (”Midnight Blue” by Melissa Manchester)  (Photo taken on October 11, 2019)

Fornax Void Update Spring 2019
Hey everyone,
In recent months I may have seemed kind of inactive, which led to a few requests about what I'm up to. I thought I might write a little update on what is going on:
For the most part I'm working on cleaning up my Album 'Cyberspace Database'. As I plan to release the Album on physical media this year (coupled with new videos), I want to refresh the mixes, and create consistent masters of all the tracks. This created the need to migrate my DAW to a computer with higher performance.
Making archival backups of all the data, migrating DAW to computer with more performance, upgrading Operating System, getting latest Cubase etc.
This took some time and the according purchases (HDDs, SSDs, Cubase License etc.) created Budget problems. I started doing more commissions and decided to sell all hardware synths except a handful of favorites - generally reducing clutter in my workspace, by selling stuff. This resulted in additional logistical, and administrational efforts: sampling all the synths, especially recording samples of important personal patches, creating online auctions, packing up things and hauling them to the post office etc. This process is not yet finished and will take up a couple more weeks.
Basically, I'm cleaning up and refreshing things, to wrap up my work of the last few years in a well rounded way.
For fun, I created a list of the synths I sold or kept, with statements on why and mentions of a couple of tracks they were used on:
Tumblr media
Kept:
Roland JV-2080 – While I got to recap all the upgrade cards of this thing, the device is extremely convenient to program, full of sounds I love to create patches with and 8 * multi-timbral. Used on Borlando Loom, Cyberspace Database and many other tracks.
Akai S3000XL – One of the classic, defining samplers of the 90s. Easy to use, multi-timbral, 32-voice polyphony. Used on Void Gate Access Software and Void Gate Panorama Station.
Korg WaveStation A/D – Lots of waveforms, multi-timbral. The unorthodox sound engine and the menu design make it a bit of a headache to program. Despite the large display, accessing it's capabilities is time consuming. The menu has some graphic capabilities beyond text, but it is not as intuitive feeling as the menus of the JV-2080 or the S3000XL. Used on Cyborg Samurai Miyamoto, Soyokaze Suteshon 199X, Void Gate Panorama Station and other tracks.
Yamaha PSS-480 – My first synth, I got as a kid. Also one of my favorite FM synths. Programmable 2-OP FM with MIDI. Used on Void Gate Access Software, Void Gate Panorama Station and other tracks.
Reckless Experimentation Audio LLC YM3812 – Like an Adlib Soundcard in a box, but better. Great, programmable, multi-timbral FM synth module with MIDI, based on the legendary OPL2 chip. Used on: Topographic Multiplexer and other tracks.
Commodore 64 + MSSIAH Cartridge – great 3-part / 3-voice synth and wave player / sampler software for the C64. Used on Offshore Network Vertex, Void Gate Access Software, Hexadecimal Love Letters and other tracks.
Wayfar MIDI NES Cartridge – Interesting thing. Don't use it much, but doesn't take up much space. Used on: Void Gate Access Software
Tumblr media
Sold:
Roland D-05 – Generally liked this synths sound, but its inconvenient to program, filters don't work on PCM waveforms, lacks multi-timbrality and no proper outputs. Used on Super Aliasing and other tracks.
Roland TB-03 – Sounds pretty nice, easy to program, but lacks proper outputs. I used this as a harp-like instrument in the end of Void Gate Access Software.
Akai S1000 – Wonderful sounding sampler, but is 1U bigger, has less RAM, half the polyphony probably sells better than the than S3000XL. Used on Void Gate Access Software and Void Gate Panorama Station.
Oberheim Xpander – A really nice instrument, I spent lot of time with, but always made me feel uneasy owning. Expensive, old, analog synths always come with the risk that something breaks. Used on: Ancient Data Tapes, Oberheim Taxi Shagnhai Xpander, Server Room Love Letters,  Affinity, Infinity, Protorezoic Ocean, Hexadecimal Love Letters, Offshore Network Vertex, Cyborg Samurai Miyamoto, and many more tracks.
Korg M1R – A great sounding, multi-timbral classic, but while not too complicated, still inconvenient to program, because of it's small display. Also, the Plugin version of it, sounds really good, comes with a great sound library that is well-structured and is more convenient to program. Used on Offshore Network Vertex and a few other tracks but more of the M1 sounds on the album actually stem from the M1 Legacy Plugin.
Korg Volca Beats – Cool device, easy to use, but lacks proper outputs. Used on Offshore Network Vertex and Void Gate Access Software.
Korg Poly 800 II – One of my first hardware synths. Found this for cheap in a thrift-store almost a decade ago. Nice retro sounds. Not pleasant to program, chewy buttons, archaic digital menu. My album Tomes of Erebus was for big parts made on this one. Also used on Void gate Access Software and other tracks.
Casio CZ-5000 – Never really used much but the same, particular self-made patch on this synth (now thoroughly sampled). Used on Cyborg Samurai Miyamoto and a few other tracks.
Yamaha PSR-47 – Non-programmable Keyboard with lots of presets, some of them good. Has MIDI. Used on Screensaver Library. Used on Offshore Network Vertex and other tracks.
Yamaha PSR-60 – Not so fun, non-programmable FM based keyboard thing with MIDI. Used on Screensaver Library.
Yamaha Reface DX – Great sounding 4-OP FM synth, easy to program, proper MIDI and outputs, good keyboard, but that part of the menu is solved with touch controls always annoyed me. Used on Void Gate Access Software, Void Gate Panorama Station and other tracks.
Yamaha Reface CS – Interesting synth, proper outputs and MIDI, lots of sound capabilities, slightly too clean sounding. Sounded great when sampled through Akai S1000. Used on Hexadecimal Love Letters and some other tracks.
Yamaha DX21 – Nice 4-OP FM synth from the era of the DX7. In theory an easy synth, but the small, non-backlit display and the very archaic menu qualities make it annoying to program. Main synth on Wintermute and Personal System/2. Used on a few other tracks too.
Yamaha FB-01 – Interesting multi-timbral FM synth. Patches can not be programmed on-device and is ultimately too generic sounding to keep, compared to YM3812 or PSS-480. Used on Wintermute, Voidnet Online Service Provider and other tracks.
Yamaha TG33 – Interesting synth. Similar to the Roland D-05 / D-50 but FM / PCM based. Kinda headache inducing menus. When weighing up accessibility to sound-capabilities it lost out. Used on: Void Gate Access Software and a few other tracks.
Arturia Miniburte – Great monophonic analog synth. Nice for deep sounds. Used on many tracks. Didn't really fit into the concept of my next setup. Used on Offshore Network Vertex, Void Gate Access Software, Void Gate Panorama Station, Hexadecimal Love Letters and other tracks.
Waldorf Rocket – Interesting synth. Mostly used it for filtering external signals through it's analog filter. Used on: Illustrated History of Nature, Voidnet Online Service Provider, Void Gate Panorama Station and other tracks.
Roland U-110 – PCM sound module. Some nice sounds. Used on PCM Sound Module U-110 and some other tracks.
Conclusion: Most synths I'm keeping are digital, rack-mounted, multi-timbral, 90s devices or some kind of semi-unusual retro computing related thing, reducing the tools to a core-palette of things I really like, for future projects.
Well, that's it for now. An update on current Fornax Void activities. I hope there is some useful info in there for some of you. Will be back with more updates.
Best Regards, Fornax Void

Shoot Secret Santa by @t-ninjaa!
“Huh,” Root mused, furrowing her brow. Shaw looked up from her current task of sharpening her knife. “The Machine sent us a new number?” she asked, focusing back on the task at hand. “You could say that - although this one seems a little out of the ordinary.” “Yeah? How so?” “Well,” Root stood up from her seat at the computer desk and walked over to where Shaw was seated, “She didn’t give us a name or any of the usual identifying markers - just coordinates and instructions to extract the number.” “Is She glitching up? She’s only been back online for a few months; maybe it takes time to configure or something.” Root tilted her head and smiled. “I love it when you try to speak nerd. However, I don’t think that’s the problem. It almost feels like she’s purposely withholding this information from us.”
“So the Machine wants us to go into our next mission flying blind?” Shaw shook her head. “Usually I’d be up for this sort of thing, but you barely just recovered from that GSW. Now is not the time to play hide and seek with the details.” “There has to be a good reason for her to keep this information from us,” Root said. “Besides, I’m fully healed now.” She lifted up the hem of her shirt to reveal a shiny pink scar just under her right ribs. “See? Good as new.” Shaw shook her head. “Just because you look fine on the outside doesn’t mean that it doesn’t still hurt on the inside, Root.” The words were simple but Root could tell that there was much more meaning behind them than Shaw let on. She raised an eyebrow in question and Shaw responded by rolling her eyes. “I’ve been gutshot too, remember? Coming back from the dead ain’t as easy as it sounds.” “It’s not too bad if you have your own personal physician to make sure that you’re healing properly,” Root teased. “Anyway,” Shaw said, changing the subject, “why should we even go on this mission if the Machine doesn’t trust us with the number’s identity?” “Consider it an adventure, Sameen. It’s not that she doesn’t trust us; the Machine assures me that there is nothing to worry about and that She just didn’t want the number’s identity to cloud our judgment.” “Who could it possibly be that would cloud our judgment?” Shaw asked. Root gave her pleading look and Shaw threw up her hands. “Fine. Your baby Machine better know what it’s doing,” she grumbled. “So what’s the plan?” Root listened intently to the Machine in her ear and nodded along in understanding. “There’s a charity event tomorrow night at the Waldorf Manor in the upper east side hosted by Robert Waldorf III himself.”
“He’s got a number after his name? Ugh, I hate him already.”
“Waldorf has connections to various criminal groups in New York, though it has never been proven. To the average New York citizen he’s just a very, very successful businessman and philanthropist. Our number was abducted on his orders and is being held somewhere inside the mansion. We need to secure invitations to this party, find and free the number, and then escape without getting noticed.” Shaw nodded. “Sounds easy enough. I assume the Machine will be supplying us with the invites to this party?” Root smiled. “You assumed correctly.” She paused and listened again as the Machine provided her with additional information. “Hold on, there’s...a second part to this mission,” Root relayed the Machine’s message to Shaw. “Also hidden at the mansion is a hard drive containing the identities and objectives of every undercover intelligence agent at the CIA. This information was probably obtained during Samaritan’s time and is likely being sold to the highest bidder.” “If any of this information gets leaked, who knows what kind of chaos it could cause. Not to mention all the lives that would be put at risk.”
“Exactly. That’s why we’ll need to retrieve the hard drive and destroy it as soon as possible.”
“Alright - what are we waiting for, then? We have a party to crash.” . . . . “Caitlyn Kennedy and Mara Walker,” Root announced their cover names to the doorman as they approached the grand doors to Waldorf Manor where the party was being held. Root wore a navy blue dress while Shaw wore one in her signature black. A security guard standing by searched through their bags as the the doorman took out his tablet and scanned it for the names. He nodded and looked back up. “Ms. Kennedy; Ms. Walker - this way, please,” he gestured politely for them to enter. They retrieved their bags from the security guard and proceeded into the grand corridor towards the ballroom. The sound of light chatter and clinking glass reached their ears as they walked through the large corridor and into the grand ballroom. “So who do you think would be abducted and imprisoned by someone this rich and powerful?” Shaw asked lowly, surveying the room. “I guess we’re about to find out,” Root answered. “In approximately seven minutes, the security guard at the west doors will leave his post to go for a cigarette break. There will be a 42-second window before his relief comes to take over the post. During this time, we will need to leave through the west doors undetected. The Machine will loop the surveillance footage so that we won’t be detected on the cams, and we’ll need to create a small diversion so that we can move.” Shaw nodded imperceptibly while grabbing a handful of canapés off of a passing tray. “And where do we go once we get through the doors?” she asked, stuffing the food into her mouth. “The number is being held somewhere on the third floor. The Machine will give us directions once we get up there.” Shaw looked around the room looking for a drink, and as if out of nowhere, Root produced a flute of champagne and pressed it into Shaw’s hand. “Where did you- actually y’know what, never mind. I’ve learned not to question anything when it comes to you and the Machine,” Shaw said as she downed the champagne in one gulp. “Thanks, sweetie,” Root beamed, taking the empty glass back from Shaw and tossing it into the corner of the room, causing it to shatter upon impact with the floor. “Move - now!” Root whispered, gesturing to the direction of the west doors while heads turned towards the sound of the shattered glass. They quickly made their way out of the west doors and into the hallway, staying close to the walls to avoid detection. They headed towards the grand staircase and Shaw had started to ascend the stairs when Root grabbed onto her elbow and pulled her back. “What the hell, Root?” Shaw whispered, “aren’t we supposed to go to the third floor?” Root smiled. “Minor detour, Sam.” Root pulled Shaw into an empty guestroom nearby and shoved her up against the wall, lifting a finger to her lips to signal for Shaw to keep quiet. “Well this is cozy,” Root teased, still holding the shorter woman against the wall with her own body. Shaw was about to shove Root off of her but froze when the sound of footsteps approached from outside in the hallway.
The door to the room opened and a man wearing a tuxedo entered, chatting on his phone. He stopped when he saw the two women pressed up against the wall.
“Oh, e-excuse me, I didn’t think anyone was in here,” he stammered, turning around to leave.
“I’m sorry too,” Root said, swiftly pulling out a hot pink taser from out of nowhere and shoving it into the man’s neck.
The man slumped to the ground, unconscious, and Root raised her eyes to meet Shaw’s questioning look. Root shrugged. “I borrowed this from Zoe. The ones I have are too bulky to smuggle in the back of my dress.”
“Well that’s nice that you guys share weapons and all, but I’m wondering why we had to tase the guy.” Shaw gestured to the unconscious form on the floor. “He was going to leave.”
“Oh, that. The Machine says that we need to tie him up and take his clothes.”
“And I suppose this is all part of the mysterious plan?”
Root shrugged. “I only do what I’m told. We’ll find out eventually what the Machine has in store.”
Shaw rolled her eyes. “Right.”
Root rummaged through a nearby linen closet and pulled out a bathrobe. She removed the belt of the bathrobe and the both of them quickly tied up the man and dumped him onto the bed. Root grabbed a pillowcase and stuffed it into the man’s mouth so that he would not be able to alert anyone when he regains consciousness. They grabbed the clothes and proceeded out of the bathroom and back into the hallway.
Shaw followed Root up the staircase and down yet another hallway until they stopped in front of one of the doors.
Root put down the clothes and turned to Shaw. “Two armed men. Both on the left side of the room. We have the element of surprise. The tallest one has a bad right knee, so you’ll take him out first while I tase the other.”
Shaw nodded, kicking off her heels.
“On my count,” Root whispered, “One...two...three!”
Shaw used her shoulder to ram open the door and immediately headed toward the tallest man, kicking in his right knee and relieving him of his sidearm when he doubled over in pain. She knocked him out cold with a blow to the back of the head using the handle of her pistol. Shaw glanced over at Root who had tased the second man and also taken his weapon.
They looked over towards the other side of the room and spotted their number. A man standing with his back towards them and his hands bound and tied with rope to a light fixture above his head. His face was obscured by a black hood, but Shaw knew that this man was no stranger to her or Root.
As they approached the figure and Root reached up to remove the hood, realisation dawned on Shaw. That face (and that ass) was unmistakable. Oh, shit. It’s- “Tomas! What a surprise,” Root greeted in her saccharine sweet voice that Shaw knew she only reserved for people she really, really wanted to stab. This would explain why the Machine chose not to reveal the identity of the number ahead of the mission.
“I’m sorry, I don’t think we’ve met,” Tomas replied, a look of confusion on his face. He look over toward Shaw and the confused look turned into a wide grin. “Now there’s a face I recognise!”
Root rolled her eyes. “I’d hate to interrupt this reunion, but we’re on a bit of a clock.”
Tomas nodded. “I’d love to get out of here as soon as possible too, but…” he motioned with his chin to his hands which were still tied up above his head.
Shaw spotted a folding knife tucked in the boot of one of the unconscious men. She walked over to retrieve the knife and proceeded to cut down the rope.
Tomas smiled. “It’s been a while. I see you’re still in the business of saving my life.”
Shaw snorted. “Don’t flatter yourself, Tomas. I’m in the business of saving lives in general. Although I see that you’re still in the business of getting into trouble with powerful people.”
“Well I have to keep things interesting,” Tomas said as Shaw severed the last ligaments of rope holding him up. He rubbed his wrists to bring back the circulation into them. “My offer still stands if you ever want to-” his words were interrupted as Root shoved the tuxedo into his face.
“You’ll need to put this on - quickly.”
Tomas shrugged and started shedding his clothes. Root and Shaw turned around to give him some privacy.
“Hey, what’s up with you?” Shaw whispered to Root out of earshot.
“We have another mission to finish, and it can’t exactly wait while you and Mr. Charming Thief get reacquainted.”
“So,” Tomas said as tucking in his shirt as he walked up to them, “What’s the plan?”
“There is a very important hard drive hidden somewhere in this building-”
“I know where it is,” Tomas chimed in.
Shaw looked over at him. “You do?”
“You don’t think it’s pure coincidence that I was abducted and held here, do you? I worked a job with a new group recently and overheard them talking about this hard drive and how it contains very sensitive government information - the kind of information can be very dangerous if accessed by the wrong people.”
“And so you came here to retrieve this hard drive out of the goodness of your own heart?” Root responded. “Didn’t think you were the selfless type, Tomas.”
“I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask for a little bit of spare change in exchange for our government’s deepest secrets.” A look of intrigue crossed Tomas’ face. “I’m sorry - who are you again?”
“You can call me Root. I work closely with Sameen here.”
Tomas turned to Shaw. “Ah, so it’s Sameen. I never thought you looked much like a Nadya.”
Shaw shrugged. “Believe me, it’s not a name I would have chosen for myself.”
“Anyway,” Root continued, “Tomas, since you know where the drive is being kept, you and Sameen will need to go and retrieve them.” She turned to Shaw.”There’s a surveillance room on the second floor. I will hack into the mansion’s security system and disable it while you two retrieve the drive. The security system can only stay offline for 15 minutes before it automatically reboots, so you’ll need to get out of there by then or risk getting caught - do you think you and Tomas can handle that?”
“Of course - this is what I’m good at,” Tomas said, winking at Shaw.
“Subtle,” Root murmured, rolling her eyes. She headed towards the door. “No time to waste now, kids - let’s move.”
They split up - with Root headed towards the security room and Shaw and Tomas in search of the room holding the hard drive.
“Your friend - she doesn’t like me very much, does she?” Tomas asked as he led the way down the hall.
“She’s not really a people person,” Shaw replied, checking to see how many rounds she had left in the magazine of her stolen gun.
Tomas held up a hand to signal Shaw to stop as they approached the room containing the  hard drive. They crouched down on either side of the door to listen for movement inside and Shaw heard the familiar crackle in her ear as the comms turned on.
“Hey sweetie. How are we on finding that drive?”
“We’re workin’ on it. You found the security room yet?”
“Already here,” Root said, watching the screens. “You’ve got fifteen minutes starting now. There are two guards waiting for you on the other side of that door. Take them out and then find the safe hidden behind the Monet painting on the east wall.”
“And then let Tomas work his magic on the safe. Got it.”
Root scrunched up her nose. “I wouldn’t really call it ‘magic’, more of a convenient skill. If you want magic, I can show you later-“
Shaw rolled her eyes as she tapped to turn off her earpiece. She turned to Tomas. “I’ll take out the bad guys, you crack the safe. It’s behind the Monet painting on the east wall.”
Tomas nodded and Shaw proceeded to knock on the door.
A tall, burly man in a suit opened the door. “What are you doing here? You’re not supposed to be in this area.”
“I saw a suspicious looking man walk down the hall just now,” Shaw said, pointing down the corridor.
The man craned his head to look down the hall and Shaw quickly knocked him out with her pistol.
“Hey! What’s going on?” The second man shouted, rushing towards the door and looking down at his fallen comrade.
“Just trying to see how long it would take for you to figure out that it’s not smart to turn your back on an opponent,” Shaw deadpanned.
“What?”
Before the man had a chance to draw his gun, Shaw had already jumped on his back and put him into a sleeper hold. Once he slumped to the ground, Shaw looked up at Tomas. “Get to the safe. We have eight minutes before the security system comes back on and the alarm goes off.”
They ran to the Monet painting and took it down, revealing the antique safe embedded in the wall behind it.
“I don’t have any of my tools with me, so I’ll have to improvise.”
Shaw grinned. “Who doesn’t love a good challenge?”
Shaw stood guard as Tomas carefully turned the dial on the safe, listening for subtleties in the clicks that would indicate the numbers of the combination.
At the sound of approaching footsteps, Shaw quickly drew her gun and pointed it at the direction of the door.
“Hey kids, having fun?” Root asked, casually stepping over the two unconscious bodies by the door and walking into the room.
Shaw relaxed and lowered her weapon. “Root. How are we on time?”
“You’ve got two minutes and twenty-seven seconds before the security system comes back on and the alarm goes off.” She turned to Tomas. “No pressure,” she chirped.
Tomas grinned. “I thrive under pressure,” he said, continuing his work on the safe.
They all heard a click as the safe door swung open and revealed the hard drive inside.
“Nice work,” Shaw said to Tomas as Root took out the hard drive and put it into her bag.
Root headed toward the door. “Let’s go!”
Shaw and Tomas quickly followed Root back out into the hallway.
“We need to get back into the ballroom and leave through the front door,” Root instructed. “When the security system reboots, the lights will go out for five seconds. We need to get back into the ballroom through the west doors during those five seconds.”
Tomas turned to Shaw, “How does she know all this?”
Shaw shook her head. “You don’t wanna know.”
They arrived at the west doors just as lights shut down. Shaw quickly slipped through the doors and back into the ballroom. Tomas was about to follow when they heard footsteps hurry toward them.
“Hey! What are you two doing here? You are not allowed in this area of the property!”
Thinking quickly, Root swiftly punched Tomas in the stomach and he doubled over in pain. She patted his back and looked up at the security guard approaching them.
“We’re so sorry. My husband must have eaten something that did not agree with his stomach so we’re just trying to find a bathroom - right honey?”
“Yeah, I think it must have been the shrimp,” Tomas groaned through his teeth.
“Only authorised personnel are allowed in this part of the property. There’s a bathroom if you go back through the ballroom.”
Root flashed him a smile. “Thank you, we really appreciate it!”
They went back through the doors into the ballroom where Shaw was waiting.
“What happened to you two?” Shaw asked, eyeing Tomas who was still doubled over in pain.
“We got spotted by one of the security guys just as we were about to follow you. I had to think fast.” Root turned to Tomas. “I’m really sorry about that, but I suppose you’d rather endure a little punch to the stomach than a bullet to the head?” She asked, absolutely no trace of remorse in her voice. “Well if you put it that way,” Tomas grunted, still wincing.
Shaw raised an eyebrow at Root, who shrugged innocently. “Anyway, it looks like we did what we came here to do. Now, before we leave I need to get me some more of those truffled quail eggs.”
. . . .
“I guess it’s time for me to say goodbye. Thank you for getting me out of there, ladies,” Tomas said once the three of them had returned to the safehouse and wiped the hard drive. “We work pretty well together. Let me know if you’re both ever in the market for a more lucrative career.”
Shaw snorted. “As tempting as that sounds, I think I’d rather avoid pissing off obscenely rich people with connections to the mob.”
“Well that’s too bad,” Tomas said, stepping toward Shaw to give her a goodbye kiss on the cheek. “We could have made a great team.”
Shaw glanced over his shoulder at Root, who was perched on the dining table with a tight grip on her taser. Tomas turned around and approached Root, extending his hand to shake hers.
“I can see why Sameen turned down my offer last time,” he said low enough so that Shaw couldn’t hear. “Looks like there are things that she cares about here.” He winked at Root before turning around. “Well, I’ve got a plane to catch. Got a job in Paris that promises a lot of adventure and of course a lot of money. I hope to see both you you again sometime - although maybe under different circumstances.”
After Tomas left, Root hopped off the table and sauntered towards Shaw. “Well I can definitely understand what you saw in him - he really is very charming.”
“And yet I’m still here putting my life on the line to work as a vigilante with zero pay and no 401K.”
“We also have a dog.”
“He’s the only reason I’m still here.”
“The only reason?”
“Fine, I guess there are a few perks to the job.”
“Why don’t we head to the bedroom and I’ll show you a few of those perks right now?”
Shaw rolled her eyes but allowed Root to take her hand and tug her towards the direction of the bedroom.

"On her first day on the job, Gertrude Jeannette, believed to be the first woman to drive a cab in New York City, got in an accident — on purpose. She had pulled up in front of the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in Manhattan looking for a fare but was cut off by other taxi drivers. “In those days they didn’t allow black drivers to work downtown; you had to work uptown,” Ms. Jeannette, who was African-American, later recalled. “They said, ‘Say, buddy, you know you’re not supposed to be on this line.’” As cabbies hurled insults and hemmed her in, she remained calmly on the line — until, that is, a Checker cab lurched in front of her. “I rammed my fender under his fender, swung it over to the right and ripped it,” she said in 2011 at a ceremony in her honor at the Dwyer Cultural Center in Harlem. When the other driver got a good look at her, she recalled, he screamed: “A woman driver! A woman driver!” She was later reprimanded by an inspector, but she drove off with her very first customer. Ms. Jeannette, who was also one of the first women to get a motorcycle license in New York, and who later overcame a speech impediment to become a Broadway, film and television actor as well as a playwright, producer and director, died on April 4 at her home in Harlem. She was 103. Ms. Jeannette got her hack license in 1942. She had responded to an ad in a newspaper looking for women to replace the male cabdrivers who had been drafted into World War II. “Women were going into plants and everything else, taking over jobs,” she recalled in a 2005 interview. “I said, well, I know one thing — I can drive a car.” “Thirty-two of us took the test and only two of us passed,” said Ms. Jeannette, who learned how to drive a Chrysler truck at the age of 13 in Arkansas. “But the other girl didn’t get her license because she had citations on her driver’s license. And so I, I was the first....” VIA JONATHAN WOLFE/ @nytimes #theunsungheroines

III ; KORG DW-8000>
KORG
DW-8000 Programmable Digital Waveform Synthesizer
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Tumblr media

Weekend Getaway: Las Vegas
Jan – Feb 2019. MGM Grand Hotel. It’s OK. Rooms are older but on the higher floors they are feasible. Casino has poor ventilation so be prepared to smell like smoke.
Meal 1. The Grand Buffet $32 brunch and dinner daily. MOst buffets have done away with the less expensive breakfast and just serve daily brunch. The quality of food is not good.Would not recommend.
Meal 2. Wolfgang Puck’s serves a very good prime burger $20.Try it.
Meal 3. Of course there is nothing better than a top notch meal at the very pretentious but outstanding Joel Robuchon (RIP). The $127 to $455 prixe fixe menus, the bread and dessert carts, the butter from Brittany, the olive oil from Spain and of course the amuse bouche all are a once hopefully more dinning experience of a lifetime.Skip the $30 wine by the glass and get a bottle of something or a half bottle or a $10 bottle of Evian that do not tell you there is a charge for as they pour away.
Meal 4. Emeril’s Fish House is good and has the best banana cream pie. Shrimp poboy, shrimp cocktail. sliders all satisfying choices. Emeril has a happy hour also!
Meal 5. Fiamma Italian is way over priced. $40 for lobster gnocchi which actually was delicious. But $40 for a horrible chicken parm is a disgrace. $40 for the filet Marsala was returned immediately. Inedible. The grilled octopus was divine. Great table bread and flavored butters.
Meal 6. Craft Steak was very good and whoa expensive! Steaks were perfectly cooked with and amazing sears on all of them. Apps are limited. The charcuterie platter is a best bet. Deserts were sweet and tasty. Try the monkey bread.
Meal 7. My new favorite buffet is the daily brunch buffet at the Wynn Hotel. A class act with top notch food quality. Better than the over priced Bouchon next door.
Superbowl watch at the Waldorf Astoria Vegas. The old Mandarin Oriental Hotel next to the Aria. It is the only place to watch without smokers! Patriots win again vs. the LA rams in the most boring SB ever! Place your bets for next year!
