Japan Coast Guard Orders Two More Airbus H225 Helicopters
The Japan Coast Guard (JCG), Japan’s largest Super Puma operator, has placed a new order for two H225 helicopters. The order brings JCG’s Super Puma fleet to 15, comprising of two AS332s and 13 H225s. The 11-ton-category, twin-engine H225 is the latest member of Airbus Helicopters’ Super Puma family. The new helicopters will be utilised for territorial coastal activities, security enforcement, as well as disaster relief missions in Japan.
“We thank the Japan Coast Guard for its continued confidence in the H225,” said Guillaume Leprince, Managing Director of Airbus Helicopters in Japan. “The H225 is well regarded as a reference in search-and-rescue operations and security enforcement, and we are certainly happy to see these helicopters effectively deployed in Japan through the years. We have delivered three new H225 to JCG in the recent months, within schedule, and are committed to fully supporting its existing fleet, as well as its upcoming deliveries, ensuring high availability for its operations.” In Japan alone, a total of 28 helicopters from the Super Puma family are currently flown by civil, parapublic operators, and Japan’s Ministry of Defense for various search and rescue missions, offshore operations, VIP, fire-fighting, and passenger and goods transportation. Casa Formentera to Open in the Balearic Islands
Just a quick boat ride from Ibiza, the undeveloped island of Formentera is a tranquil, secluded hideaway of white sand beaches and crystal-clear waters. While Ibiza has a reputation for a thrilling nightlife scene fueled by star international DJs, its sister island Formentera—the smallest of the Balearic islands, encompassing 32 square miles—is known for its preserved natural landscapes. And for those readers dreaming of a Mediterranean escape, this idyllic island will soon welcome a new beachside hotel called Casa Formentera. This design-centric property is a new departure for the Pacha Group, the Ibiza-based lifestyle and entertainment brand that operates club venues around the world.
Casa Formentera will be situated just a short walk from Platja Mitjorn, considered one of the best beaches in Europe. The ethos here is “barefoot luxury” in a natural setting, with a strong emphasis on sustainability. Drinking water will be distilled on site and the hotel will be plastic-free. What’s more, Casa Formentera will support environmental programs through the Ibiza and Formentera Preservation Foundation.
The 14 guestrooms will exude a stylish, minimalist design aesthetic with natural materials, polished concrete floors and a neutral palette. With views of the Mediterranean, the rooms will have cool design accents like African ceramics, tropical plants and rattan screens. The best part of all? Organic breakfasts will be delivered in baskets to your door every morning and aperitifs served on your terrace at sunset.

There will be a Mediterranean restaurant featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients and wellness services, including yoga sessions and massages on the rooftop. Last but not least, Casa Formentera will host cultural events and social happenings throughout the season like sunset rituals and music concerts.

Coronavirus Relief: How Will Travel Agencies Benefit?
On Wednesday, Congressional leadership and the Trump Administration came to agreement and released the text of a massive $2 trillion coronavirus relief package, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. While it is expected to pass both chambers of Congress and be signed into law by President Trump in the coming days, it is possible that additional changes might be made. For the time being, provisions of the CARES Act that will provide relief to the travel agency industry, its employees and independent contractors (ICs) include: Travel Agencies Eligible for Airline Economic Stabilization Loans ($25 billion) – Under the bill, the Treasury Secretary is authorized to make up to $25 billion in loans, loan guarantees and other investments in support of passenger airlines, “ticket agents” (the statutory term for travel agencies) and other related aviation businesses. Small Business Interruption Loans/Paycheck Protection Program ($349 billion) – Under this new U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) loan program, loans of up to $10 million will be available to U.S. businesses under the existing SBA size standards ($22 million in annual revenue) or with 500 or fewer employees. Independent contractors and the self-employed are eligible. There are no collateral or personal guaranty requirements for these loans. The portion of these loans that covers the business’ payroll, mortgage, rent or utility expenses from February 15 to June 30 may be eligible for forgiveness in whole or in part. Economic Stabilization Loans for Severely Distressed Sectors ($425 billion) – Under the bill, the U.S. Treasury Department would be authorized to extend low- or no-interest loans and loan guarantees to U.S. businesses that incurred losses directly or indirectly as a result of coronavirus. This relief is only open to a “business that has not otherwise received adequate economic relief in the form of loans or loan guarantees provided under this Act,” indicating that businesses could not also apply for the new SBA program (see above). Unemployment Benefits for the Self-Employed – The CARES Act would also provide up to 39 weeks of unemployment insurance benefits to people not otherwise eligible for regular unemployment compensation (including the self-employed and those who have exhausted their regular benefits). “The coronavirus pandemic has proved to be the biggest challenge ever faced by ASTA and its members,” said Zane Kerby, president and CEO ASTA. “Over the past few weeks, we have worked hand-in-hand with our 13,000 members to secure the maximum amount of relief for the travel agency community in this package. The fact that travel agencies are included in the airline assistance portion of the bill is a huge win and means that Congress heeded our call to include our members in any targeted travel industry relief.”

In the coming days, the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) says it will analyze the entirety of the relief package for provisions impacting its members and will explore key topics, such as how the new SBA loan program interacts with the Administration’s existing Disaster Relief programs. ASTA says it will also monitor SBA and Treasury/Transportation Department announcements with regard to how they plan to distribute this relief. ASTA adds that it sent over 28,000 grassroots messages to legislators through its advocacy page. It will also hold a member webinar on Friday, March 27 at 3 p.m. ET to provide members with a preliminary analysis.

ASTA adds that it sent over 28,000 grassroots messages to legislators through its advocacy page. Coronavirus outbreak: Dubai’s vast malls to close under UAE plan to curb virus - travel
Dubai’s famous malls will shut down for a fortnight under the United Arab Emirates’ plan to curb coronavirus, which will also see its airports closed to passenger and transit flights. The decision to close commercial centres takes in shopping centres as well as fresh food markets, but pharmacies and food retail outlets will be allowed to stay open. Restaurants are limited to home deliveries. The health ministry and the disaster management authority said in a statement early Monday that the move would come into force within 48 hours and last “for a renewable period of two weeks”.Dubai’s vast shopping centres include Mall of the Emirates, which has its own indoor ski slope, and Dubai Mall which is one of the world’s largest and features a giant aquarium. The move came as UAE authorities announced they would suspend all passenger and transit flights for two weeks, as the coronavirus outbreak prompts many countries to shut their borders.Cargo and emergency evacuation flights are exempt from the measure.“Additional examination and isolation arrangements will be taken later should flights resume in order to ensure the safety of passengers, air crews, and airport personnel and their protection from infection risks,” they said in a statement. The UAE is home to two major international airports, in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, which are major transit hubs.Monday’s announcement came hours after Dubai carrier Emirates said it would suspend all passenger flights by March 25, only to swiftly reverse its decision. It later said it “received requests from governments and customers to support the repatriation of travellers” and would continue to operate passenger flights to 13 destinations. However, after the new UAE suspension the airline confirmed it would suspend all passenger services for two weeks starting from March 25.“We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused to our customers and travellers. These measures are in place to contain the spread of COVID-19, and we hope to resume services as soon as feasible,” it said. The UAE announced on Friday its first two deaths from the COVID-19 disease, having reported more than 150 cases so far.Gulf countries have imposed various restrictions to combat the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic, particularly in the air transport sector. The UAE has already stopped granting visas on arrival and forbidden foreigners who are legal residents but are outside the country from returning.(This story has been published from a wire agency feed without modifications to the text.)Follow more stories on Facebook and Twitter Read the full article

Coronavirus: The Latest Luxury Cruise Cancellation And Change Policies
Luxury cruise lines are continuing to adapt their cancellation and change policies to the evolving coronavirus situation. Most recently, The U.S. State Department changed its travel advisory for COVID-19 precautions, saying, "U.S. citizens, particularly travelers with underlying health conditions, should not travel by cruise ship." Representatives from Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and major cruise lines also met with Vice President Mike Pence and Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf to coordinate the cruise industry’s response to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.
Silversea, Azamara and Celebrity Cruises
Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. cruise brands—Azamara, Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean International—as well as Silversea (in which the company owns a 67 percent stake) have adopted the new “Cruise with Confidence” policy, detailed further by our sister publication Travel Agent. Guests booked on a cruise departing prior to July 31, 2020, can cancel up to 48 hours before sailing and receive a full cruise credit to use on any future sailing of the guest’s choice in 2020 or 2021. The policy applies to both new and existing cruise bookings.
Holland America Line
Guests booked on a Holland America Line cruise or Alaska Land+Sea Journey through May 31, 2020, can cancel and receive a future cruise credit for the amount of the paid fare which can be used for another cruise in 2020 or 2021. The FCC must be booked by December 31, 2020, and the cancellation must be made with a minimum of 72 hours in advance of departure date but no later than March 31, 2020. However, guests booked between now and March 9, 2020 may also cancel under this new policy despite being within 72 hours.

Additionally, guests who make a new booking by April 30, 2020, for itineraries that depart on or before October 15, 2020, can cancel for any reason and receive a future cruise credit in the amount of any cancellation fees applied, so long as they cancel up to 30 days before departure. The cruise line is also offering a Cancellation Protection Plan for new cruises or Alaska Land+Sea Journeys. The program, offering a Standard or Platinum plan, allows guests to cancel up to 24 hours before cruise departure with Standard and right up to departure under Platinum and receive refunds from 80 to 90 percent of eligible amounts paid. The cost varies by cruise fare and is nonrefundable.
Oceania Cruises
Oceania Cruises has announced a new Traveler’s Assurance booking policy, effective immediately, for all existing and new bookings made by April 30, 2020, for any voyages departing between march 10, 2020, and September 30, 2020. As part of the policy guests can cancel up to 48 hours prior to departure and receive a future cruise credit equal to 100 percent of the cruise fare paid. Additionally, up to the day of the sailing, should there be another applicable public promotion that offers a better value through amenities or price, guests and advisors will be able to take advantage of that promotional offer and/or price.
Sea Cloud Cruises
Sea Cloud Cruises is offering guests on cruises departing in 2020 booked now until May 31 the ability to cancel free of charge up until one month prior to the departure date.
Riviera River Cruises
Riviera River Cruises has made the following changes to its cancellation and deposit policies, effective immediately: Clients making new bookings: Client’s deposit will be fully refundable up to 60 days after being made. If a client wants to cancel a booking after 60 days, the deposit can be transferred to any other 2020 or 2021 departure. Clients who have already deposited, but not fully paid: Client can delay payment in full until 30 days prior to departure or transfer their deposit to any other 2020 departure—if the new cruise is more expensive, the additional cost will be paid by the client. If the client wants to cancel and not transfer their deposit, the deposit is forfeited. Clients who have paid in full: If the client is fully paid and traveling to an affected area according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Riviera will offer a full future cruise credit for cancellation. If the client is traveling to a non-affected area according to the CDC and wants to cancel, cancellation penalties will apply.
Avalon Waterways
Avalon Waterways has announced that guests and travel advisors can now reschedule or cancel their river cruise up to three days prior to their scheduled departure date. Previously Avalon, along with its fellow members of the Globus family of brands, had announced a travel policy that allowed for changes up to 30 days prior to departure.
Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection
Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection reports that guests booked on 2020 cruises departing May 1 or later will have the option to cancel their cruise at 30 days prior to departure, at the lesser 120+ day cancellation rate of $200 per person.

Nature Eco Residences Santorini to Debut in May
The island of Santorini casts a spell. Its otherworldly landscapes were created by a volcano eruption thousands of years ago, leaving a submerged caldera surrounded by dramatic cliffs. It’s here in this extraordinary setting that a new hotel will open in May not far from the ancient city of Akrotiri, a Minoan archeological site that’s remarkably well preserved, like Pompeii. (Some say Akrotiri, covered under volcanic ash and debris, was the inspiration for Plato’s story of Atlantis.) Nature Eco Residences Santorini is the sister property to Coco-Mat Eco Residences Serifos, a hospitality concept launched by Kostas Maltezos after many years working as the general manager of the Coco-Mat brand of high-end, specialized sleeping products. (The mattresses are hand-made with natural materials.) His idea was to develop a hospitality experience that seamlessly blends into a destination’s natural surroundings. The rooms, of course, are kitted out with Coco-Mat’s mattresses.
When Nature Eco Residences Santorini makes its debut, it will show off a look reflecting the island’s traditional architecture infused with a clean, industrial, “back-to-basics mentality.” The 15 suites will be decorated with a mix of vintage decor and custom furniture in pine, teak, and chestnut crafted by local artisans. Some of the rooms have balconies, terraces, and private outdoor jacuzzis for soaking up the sea or volcano views. A highlight will be the Infinity Residence, measuring 645 square feet, built into the rock like a troglodyte house.

If you can tear yourself away from the panoramic clifftop pool, the hotel will arrange excursions to the caldera islets and excavations at Akrotiri, alongside sailing, vineyard tours, horseback riding and water sports.

The retreats are for experienced practitioners and newcomers alike and are available in six-day (“Ultimate Yoga Retreat”) and four-day (“Essential Yoga Getaway”) options. All retreats include twice-daily yoga sessions, daily spa treatments and specially designed healthy “yogic menus” for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All retreats begin with a wellness consultation and introductory yoga session on the first evening, followed by a healthy dinner at the resort’s Cafe. Mornings typically begin with a special detox tea made with turmeric, ginger, lemongrass and orange peel (and optional lime juice and honey). Then it’s time for the first of the day’s two yoga sessions: A 60-minute dynamic hatha yoga and static asanas session. During their stay, guests will have one breakfast served on board the resort’s luxury boat, as they take in the Nine Dragon River Delta. All meals served as part of the healthy yoga retreats have detailed calorie counts and dietary highlights, with most dishes including vegetarian, gluten-free, egg-free and dairy-free options. Each afternoon, guests will experience a different spa treatment, such as traditional Vietnamese oil therapy or a harmonious facial treatment, at The Azerai Spa, in addition to steam and sauna sessions to detoxify the body and relax the muscles. An evening 60-minute hatha yoga session caps each day before another healthy dinner at the Cafe. Also included in the retreats are pranayama breathing practice, meditation sessions, a live cooking session, and herbal teas and snacks, including nourishing natural juices such as “Immune Booster,” made with spinach, celery, lemon, ginger and apple, and “Glowing Skin,” which includes beetroot, orange, apple, cucumber and celery.

Flight of fancy? Aviation industry tries to go green - travel
From an emissions-reducing model jet that looks like something from a sci-fi movie to electric aircraft and sustainable fuel, the aviation industry is ramping up efforts to go green as consumer pressure grows. In an era when teen climate activist Greta Thunberg opts to travel on an eco-friendly boat and “flight-shaming” is all the rage in her native Sweden, air travel’s reputation has never looked as dire.Aviation accounts for three percent of climate-damaging carbon emissions globally, according to the European Environment Agency, and the world is experiencing record heatwaves, wildfires and storm surges made worse by rising seas.“Sustainability” was the buzzword last week in Singapore at Asia’s biggest air show - which was powered by solar panels - with manufacturers and airlines trying to outdo one another on vows to become more sustainable. Some environmentalists however have criticised such pledges as “greenwash”, PR stunts that will do little to mitigate the damage caused by the vast quantities of jet fuel burnt every year.“Aviation is under significant pressure to improve its sustainability image,” Paul Stein, chief technology officer for engine maker Rolls-Royce, told AFP.Airlines are “working with us to find pathways to increase the availability of sustainable fuels, look at how electrification can impact them... and also looking to more and more efficient engines and airframes”.Cutting emissionsThe aviation industry has pledged to reduce its net carbon emissions by 50 percent by 2050 compared with 2005 levels, and the British sector went further this month with a vow to achieve net zero emissions by the same date.At the Singapore Airshow, European plane maker Airbus unveiled a model of a futuristic new jet that blends wings with body and has two rear-mounted engines. The demonstrator model’s sleek design is meant to reduce aerodynamic drag, and the manufacturer says it has the potential to cut fuel consumption by up to 20 percent compared to current single-aisle aircraft.Dubbed Maveric, the 2.2-metre-long (7.2-foot) model had its first test flight in June last year.Franco-Italian manufacturer ATR was meanwhile keen to highlight that its turboprop aircraft -- popular for short hops, particularly in parts of Asia with poor infrastructure -- burns 40 percent less fuel compared with a jet of the same size.“It is a trade-off between fuel consumption and speed,” ATR chief executive Stefano Bortoli told AFP.“You can gain five, 10 minutes with a faster jet but in terms of pollution, it is more damaging.”Slow-moving solutionsThere have also been steps towards producing electric planes. The world’s first fully electric aircraft -- designed by engineering firm magniX -- made its inaugural test flight in December in Canada. Swiss company Smartflyer is developing a hybrid-electric aircraft for four people and is aiming for a maiden flight in 2022. As well as reducing emissions, the aircraft is less noisy and cheaper to operate due in part to lower fuel costs. But Aldo Montanari, the company’s head of avionics and user interface, cautioned such projects would not be quick.“The pressure is quite big... and I think the industry has understood but they need time to react, they cannot do it in one year,” he said. “It has to be safe.”Biofuels are touted as a major route for the aviation industry to cut carbon emissions, and several airlines have in recent years operated commercial flights using them. But prices remain higher than regular fuel, and they represent just a tiny proportion of jet fuel used globally.Despite the efforts, environmentalists accuse the aviation industry of moving too slowly as more evidence emerges of the devastating impacts of climate change.“It will take a long time for airlines to become sustainable,” Dewi Zloch, climate and energy campaigner with Greenpeace, told AFP.“Technological solutions will take decades.”(This story has been published from a wire agency feed without modifications to the text.)Follow more stories on Facebook and Twitter Read the full article

Vietjet to Launch Three New Routes to India
Vietjet has unveiled plans to launch direct flights between Danang and New Delhi, Hanoi and Mumbai and from Saigon to Mumbai. The Danang – New Delhi and Hanoi – Mumbai routes will commence on 14 May 2020 with five flights per week and three flights per week respectively. The Saigon – Mumbai route will operate four weekly flights starting from 15 May 2020. “We are excited to continue connecting Vietnam destinations to the market of over 1.2 billion population in India after receiving positive feedback regarding our previous two direct flights that linked both Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi with New Delhi,” said Vietjet Vice President Nguyen Thanh Son. “With just over five hours of flight time per leg, and a convenient flight schedule throughout the week, Vietjet's newest routes between Vietnam and India will create many more trade and tourism opportunities between the two countries, helping to boost the economies of both.” With the addition of the three new routes, Vietjet will become the operator with the most direct routes between the two countries, offering five direct routes from and to India.
