In Algy's opinion, the weather during the past week had been a wee bit disappointing… It was true that there had been occasional bursts of sunshine, and even one or two glimpses of blue sky, but it had been consistently cold, very windy, and often exceedingly wet, with dense Scotch mist obsuring the landscape much of the time.

And Saturday morning turned out to be even worse, with bursts of torrential rain driven by very strong winds. However, Algy was determined to try out his new umbrella, which his assistant had given him on the occasion of his birthday to ensure that he would have a rainbow on every day that it rained, even when the sky was completely overcast.

So he set out to find a place where the umbrella could be employed without risk of it flying away across the nearby ocean, despite the fact that with winds gusting to 50 mph this was not entirely straightforward… Eventually, however, Algy discovered a spot in his assistants' garden that was sufficiently sheltered from the roaring south-westerly, and as he settled down beneath his own personal rainbow on the wet grass, he was thrilled to find a beautiful snake's head fritillary growing right in front of his beak.

As he listened to the rain falling on his umbrella and the wind roaring in the trees, Algy had difficulty believing the weather birds' forecast for the coming week, for they were saying that a big change was coming, and that it would turn relatively warm and sunny by the middle of the week. Personally he thought that it was as likely that fishes would set up umbrellas when it rained as that the sun would shine for days on end, as forecast, but he was willing – indeed eager – to keep an open mind and hope…

Anson Mount on his podcast 'The Well'

While shooting Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 in Toronto, Anson filmed a podcast episode with co-host Branan Edgens, chatting about tv, books and music.

Anson's book recommendation is The MANIAC by Benjamín Labatut. The book explores the life and thought of a clutch of mathematicians and physicists who took science to strange and sometimes dangerous new realms. A prodigy whose gifts terrified the people around him, John von Neumann transformed every field he touched, inventing game theory and the first programable computer, and pioneering AI, digital life, and cellular automata. Labatut shows us the evolution of a mind unmatched and of a body of work that has unmoored the world in its wake.

Anson's graphic novel recommendation is THE DEPARTMENT OF TRUTH by James Tynion IV and Martin Simmonds. It revolves around the idea that if enough people believe in a conspiracy, it becomes real, and there is a government agency involved with keeping reality stable. The agency is controlling the narrative for what they claim is the greater good. What is the deep, dark secret behind the Department of Truth? Read the first issue online at the official site.

I was feeling nostalgic today about Walker: Independence and remembering the time I came 'this' close to owning the Poker set that a press rep had to sell online, but was distracted from the auction by a work meeting that went over time.

On a whim, I decided to search EBay to see if there was any WIndy memorabilia on there. There's some, but it's mostly signed photos and a few signed pilot scripts. I'm generally not into scripts and these were a little too pricy for me... but as I'm browsing, what should I see but a listing for that very same poker set!!! And at a price less than the scripts!!! AAAHHHH!!!!

I couldn't click Buy It Now any faster! I'm so excited to add this to my collection!!!

What i have learned in the past year is that i have a very strong preference for judges that let you set your dog on the table while they're assessing movement on the dog ahead. We have not been lucky so far this year 💀

Thinking about how he changed his name from Lucy to Link because his grandmother told him that’s what his parents would have named him as a boy. And how that put him in the line of fire because he just /happened/ to be named Link and just /happened/ to be wearing the green clothes for his birthday. Which are two reasons KoRL was so fixated on making him specifically the hero (while Link’s courage had to do with it too, the whole image and name undoubtedly helped).

It’s like that domino effect meme where the tiny domino is “Link changes his name :)” and the giant one is “The gods drown Hyrule a second time and Link kills a man”
