here's a prompt, it's inspired by a nancy drew episode: truth serum has been poured in the drinks at a party, how do the ros react when they are about to confess their feelings to mc, do they, in the middle of their sentence, try to avoid finishing it by stuffing food in their mouth/drink more/leave/etc.? or do they actually confess because they don't even realize what comes out of their mouth until it's too late?

Random but I follow that video game polls blog and they've been going through all the Nancy Drew games and it's been making me nostalgic. Seeing this is my inbox feels really timely because of it lol

Rook: He is eating so fast and so furiously, because he is not confessing Any of That. And then he makes an exit stage left. The confession comes out in the middle of an empty hallway, and he tries to calm himself because it's the first time something like that has ever been spoken out loud. He'll do damage control later. He just...really needs a minute.

Beck: He doesn't need a truth serum to confess his feelings, and he lets the words roll off his tongue without much of a fight. He has feelings for you. Saying it is simple. It doesn't matter who hears to him, since it isn't like he's ashamed. He might be worried about your reaction, with how sudden the confession is, but he's not going to hide it.

Rhea: She covers her mouth with her hand when she realizes what she's about to say. It comes out muffled, but even though the words are undecipherable, the look on her face and the widening of her eyes speaks the truth instead. She doesn't run away, but she freezes for a moment, anxiety in her stomach waiting for your reaction.

Zoe: They say it before they realize what exactly they've said. It isn't until there's a reaction from others that it all catches up to them and they straighten their back in their chair. They stammer over their words, immediately reaching for an excuse but not being able to get to one because of the truth serum and finally just excuse themself for a moment to catch their breath, deeply mortified.

Lars: He doesn't like that the first time he stated his growing feelings out loud is in the midst of chaos and forced from his lips. He'd rather it be a private affair, away from prying eyes and judgemental stares. Still, he doesn't exactly fight himself from stating his confession, either. He'll deal with the details later. If anything, he's less concerned about his confession and who the hell administered the truth serum to everyone

???: It's more an open secret what their feelings are towards you. In the midst of a crowd, their main concern is how people will treat you, knowing how it is they see you, regardless of how you see them. It's something they know should be secret, and so they bite their lip hard and flee before the confession is out. They're desperate to confess, but they're also desperate to keep you safe from harm

Am I the only one who doesn't think that 60s era Doctor Who's trend/themes of 'protect women' isnt sexist?

Most of the complaints I see about 60s Who sexism, and the male characters of that era is largely due to the men being like 'girls stay back.' But a) there is nothing inherently sexist about that imo? Men protecting women is the most healthy masculine thing possible. And b) when the women are like 'no lol' the men are like 'okay fine let's go' and respect their decisions on the whole.

Like that isn't sexism? That's just recognising men and women are different?

“Hey,” Evan’s roommate stuck his head into Evan’s room. “You got mail.”

“Kay.” Evan didn’t look up from his laptop.

“Seems like a birthday thing,” his roommate pressed.

Evan frowned. His mom had given him his present last weekend when they went to dinner. His roommate had presented Evan with his gift at 12 am on his birthday, two days ago.

“Who else would send me a card?”

His roommate grinned. “It’s not a card dude.”

Evan was intrigued. He walked into the living room and found a large package on the coffee table. It was addressed to Evan. He didn’t recognize the return address and there was no name attached.

He took the box to his room to open. He didn’t want his roommate watching. He wasn’t sure why exactly. Possibly some part of him thought this was a prank. If it was, it was a very heavy prank.

Evan sliced through the tape and pulled the flaps open. He pulled out the blue tissue paper and tossed it on the floor. Then he stared in disbelief at what was inside.

The typewriter was a smooth, shiny black. There were a few scratches but overall it looked well cared for. It had faded, off-white keys. There was already paper sticking out of the top, with a single typed line.

Happy birthday Evan. Go write a book or something.

Evan stared. He felt scared to even touch it. Not because it was a typewriter, he actually really loved typewriters. He’d taken a class his freshman year of college where the professor had them each type a short story on one and he’d fallen in love with the clunky machine. But they were expensive and impractical when you already owned a laptop. So Evan had never seriously considered owning one.

What scared him was that he knew exactly who sent it. The only person who knew about Evan’s interest in typewriters. The only person who knew that while, yes he’d studied ecology, he’d always hoped that when he finished school he’d be able to write a book. The only person who would have the audacity to do this to him.

Evan fumbled for his phone and typed the number from memory even though he’d never had the heart to delete it from his contacts.

He answered on the first ring. “Hello?”

“What the fuck is this?”

“A birthday present,” Jared’s voice was smug as ever.

“Jared!”

“Did you open it?”

“Yes I opened it. What the fuck! We haven’t spoken in two and a half years and this is what you-how much was this? Take it back. What the fuck Jared?”

“Well I can’t take it back because I inherited it from my great grandfather and he’s dead.”

Evan faltered. “I’m-oh. I’m sorry.”

“Kidding,” Jared snickered. “Found it at a thrift store. Crazy good condition right? Took me forever to figure out how to get the paper in there though.”

“Why did you mail me a typewriter Jared?”

“Because it’s your birthday,” Jared said slowly, like Evan was stupid.

“You know what I mean. You haven’t even texted me happy birthday for the past two years. Why this?”

Jared was quiet for a minute. “I dunno. I saw it and I thought of you.”

And Evan knew that sentiment was maybe the closest he’d ever get to hearing Jared say he missed Evan.

He folded the box flap back over and checked to return address. “You still live in the city.”

It wasn’t a question but Jared answered. “Yeah. Better apartment but yeah.”

“Do you… would you wanna get lunch or something? Like this weekend?”

“With you?”

Evan rolled his eyes. “Yes. God. You’re so annoying.”

He could hear the smile in Jared’s voice when he said, “Sure, I think I can fit you in.”
