kissin kate barlow has the best villain origin story ever put to paper. if i fell in love with a sweet man who just wanted to sell onions and show of his sick carpentry skills and they killed him for being black i think i would also snap and kill everyone involved in the most ironic way possible.
#saw a comment on a scene of Sam that was like 'he didn't deserve to die :/'#like yeah friend that's actually the whole entire point of the movie#anyway she should've killed even more people#also I should rewatch holes#holes#movies

This has been a topic in one of my discord groups today and I’m so curious what everyone’s approach is as a writer.
Writing linearly means starting at the beginning of the story and writing each scene in chronological order from beginning to end.
Writing non-linearly means you might start midway through the story and write the beginning later, or you might write scenes at random and join them up later, or you add in placeholders as you write to go back to later (like “add action scene here”).
Outlining means coming up with a sequence of plot points to guide the story - i.e. planning/mapping out what the main story beats will be throughout it.
Personally I’m a linear writer, and I don’t outline. I have a loose idea of where the story is going to go, but that’s it. And I can’t skip scenes or use placeholder text — my brain starts shrieking at me lmao.
#I write mostly linearly#I try to get from beginning to end as fast as possible on the first draft even if it means skipping chunks in the middle#where I don't know what should happen or how things connect#and I do usually create a (very rough and simple) outline#but I do that AFTER I've finished the first draft so I can see where my holes are and where the major plot points sit in the story#and then I tend to not really reference the outline after that

every major structural social problem right now is basically "we don't have enough skilled workers on the ground" and the reason is always "well we've been intentionally underpaying and understaffng them for decades to increase corporate profits" and somehow the news always just mentions the "shortage" without digging into the cause
air travel is a mess? shortage of air traffic controllers - for some mysterious reason
logistics a mess? shortage of truck drivers - for some mysterious reason
public transit can't meet demand? shortage of bus drivers - for some mysterious reason
We even mysteriously have shortages of doctors, nurses, teachers... FOR SOME MYSTERIOUS REASON
FUCKING PAY PEOPLE AND HIRE ENOUGH STAFF
#schools too!!!!#teacher shortage is everywhere#but I have a million friends with credentials that can't get a permanent position and a million friends who teach at schools#with class sizes WAY too big to manage let alone effectively teach and help each student#I taught a class of 45 at my old job and every other period was over 30#because they refused to have more than one teacher per subject per grade level#even though they were constantly pushing for higher enrollment numbers

The main difference between the weather being uncomfortably cold, and the weather being uncomfortably hot, is that the things you can do in the cold to warm yourself up (hot food/beverage, blankets, cuddles, nice clothes like sweaters, thick scarves and snazzy jackets, getting exercise) are very pleasant and very effective, and the things you can do in the heat to cool yourself down don't do shit.
#I'm literally always saying this#you can get warmer! you can put on more layers and have a hot meal#when it's hot you can only take off clothes until you run out and you're STILL hot#and there's so few cold foods

would it make you feel upset if someone you considered a friend lamented that they're lonely/have no friends?
Yes
No
results
#prev same#lonely I definitely wouldn't take personally#that's a feeling you can be lonely while having friends#no friends though would hurt. esp if it was said *to me* (which has happened)#one time I listened to my friend vent about personal stuff for like an hour and then she said that#and I was like okay why tf am I here then?
