anywho. the first man was not white. in my rewrite(Happy Hostel) he acts more covert in his assholery because subtlety is A Concept. he plays the part of a loving husband and father whilst exterminating sinners yearly. he pretends to help Charlie with her ideas but is practically bullshitting his way through. he’s bitter that his first sons were hurt by Lucifer, and wants to make all of Hell pay for it. despite Cain literally living there

The hellaverse haters are so funny. I mean, I am critical of my own sources, so I understand why they are pissed at inconsistent writing and some of the inexcusable actions portrayed in the shows. Believe me, I get it. I am pissed too. The thing is, they hate us because they didn’t expect us to be flawed... well, let me tell you something, everyone in Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel (except very few characters such as Fat Nuggets) has done questionable shit. Don’t tell me you have never done questionable things yourself. Not to mention, a whole lot of us don’t like nor support Vivziepop. Plus, we are not our source material, you know, even if our memories are close to canon (or if we were worse—), we are different now, and we are our own people. I am certain the kin gods gave some of us got another chance at life for a reason. I don’t need to see comments of random people saying that me pushing boundaries was not okay because I am the first person to say that it was messed up (mind you, it doesn’t mean I deserved what happened to me just like other people didn’t deserve that). I may not be fond of some characters from my source, but I am in no position to judge anybody from the hellaverse. Anyway, just let us learn from our past to become better people in the future, dang it.

I think Hazbin Hotel discourse is a perfect example of why humanity is doomed.

Like, don't get me wrong, the show does deserve a lot of criticism. Vivsipop herself also deserves a lot of criticism and is in my opinion not a great person.

BUT *every* single time anyone ever tries to talk about it online, there are two arguments they always boil down too.

One is, I think the show is perfect, and as a queer person, since the show has any from of queer rep, it can not be criticized.

(Discalmer, I am queer which is actually a huge part of the reason I have a lot of criticisms of the show)

And the other is, Ewwww, it has gay people, and that's cringe.

Because of that, no one can have actual conversations about the show. Like people literally can't have conversations above a 4 grade discussion level, and that is CONCERNING.

Now don't get me wrong, part of this is unfortunately there are middle schoolers on the internet (which if you are stop being on the internet it's bad for your health) and even more unfortunate they have found hazbin hotel. So mabye part of that is the fact that the audience of hazbin is younger.

But I have witnessed with my own two pearly hazel eyes people from the age 17-22 not be able to have a mature and constructive discussion about a piece of media. WHICH THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO CONSIDERING THEY HOPEFULLY PASSED 9TH GRADE ENGLISH.

Now you might be asking, "Screms, why do you think this is an indicator that humanity is doomed?"

To that, I say, if you can't deconstruct a piece of media. That most likely means you can't understand propaganda or nuanced topics. Understanding both of those things is actually pretty important to be a functioning human being. I fear for the people in those people's lives and what they have to deal with cause. oh lordy, I would not have the patience.

Also, I have witnessed most of this discourse on tiktok, not on Tumblr. Hopefully, it's different here, but I needed a good rant.

It's painful, it's painful to witness, and I wish to be free from this mortal plane/j.

Me: NO WRONG KILL THEM WITH FIRE!! At least the commercials/ads playing nowadays, I will say some of the older commercials from when the body was a child were fun, but still. I can't stand most commercials/ads now, they're just so fucking obnoxious.

I don't know about game shows, I know the host has seen one or two but I haven't myself and the faint memories the host has aren't enough to really say whether or not I'd be a fan.

I like to think Alastor does want to help Charlie with her dreams genuinely. It's clear that he has ulterior motives and doesn't actually believe in redemptjon, of course, but if you look at the things he actually does for Charlie and the way he talks he clearly does care more for the Hotel and its residents than he cares to admit.

He was willing to go out of his comfort zone and create a video commercial, even when he explicitly said multiple times he does not like television and doesn't like being on camera, just so Charlie wouldn't be upset

He actively protected the Hotel on multiple occasions, and while it's technically his job to do so, he didn't have to then help with the cleanup or step up to protect them as much as he did

When Mimzy, a dear friend of his and one of the few loved ones he had left from when he was alive, brought danger to the Hotel's doorstep he hadn't even hesitated to kick her out. Even going so far as to tell her that he "can't" have the shenanigans she brings to his life at the hotel.

When Adam attacked, he didn't hesitate to fight against him. Call it hubris if you want, Alastor isn't an idiot. He had to have known that he wasn't stronger than Adam. Yet he still stood his ground and only retreated when he was mortally wounded.

He verbally stated, twice, in the Finale that he was developing a fondness for the Hotel and its inhabitants. Both before the battle and during his breakdown.

He had every opportunity to abandon Charlie and the Hotel once the threat of the extermination came knocking on their door. Vaggie said it herself, she would not have blamed anyone if they had left the hotel during that time. I believe that includes Alastor. Alastoe may be an Overlord, but there's plenty of evidence both in the series and pilot that most Overlords are just as afraid of the Exorcists as the average demon and even though Alastor knew they could be killed, he did not know how.

Instead of abandoning Charlie he helped her find a solution, supported her through Cannibal Town, and when given the opportunity to gain the soul of the Princess of Hell for his collection he instead chose to ask for a favor.

Multiple people who are close to Alastor, Mimzy in particular, describe him as being a sweetie. We see it in the way he interacts with Mimzy, Rosie, and Nifty as well as how they themselves describe him

Basically, Alastor is secretly a softy who loves his friends but refuses to let anyone else know because Ew, Feelings!!
