Honestly, I would be okay if Sephiroth’s actual biological father is never actually confirmed, bc I think it’s way better when thematically Sephiroth has 2 sets of parents.

It just makes the tragedy of his descent into insanity work that much better if it’s decided by his choice (well. As much choice as you can have when probably at least partially possessed by a mind control alien. But yknow what I mean, thematically) of what he becomes. Like he simultaneously, even if he’s not aware of it, has 2 possible fates and 2 sets of parents to go with it, and it’s in flux until his descent into insanity at Nibelheim.

Like. Being Lucretia and Vincent’s son, he had so much potential for goodness and humanity, and we see that early on with how he learns compassion from Glen, and how much he adores his friends in Crisis Core. But he is also Jenova and Hojo’s son, inescapably, since he bears Jenova’s cells and Hojo is the one who ‘raised’ him (as much as that can be called raising), and ultimately that is what he becomes, the fate he chooses, even if it wasn’t really a choice he had the information to choose the other option for. It hurts so much worse knowing what he could have been had he stayed Lucretia and Vincent’s son.

In conclusion who needs the rules of biology with silly things like ‘blood’ and ‘DNA’ when thematic parallels are right there. The laws of the universe are nothing compared to the power of the narrative

From this one picture of Lucrecia (the picture Sephiroth had in a necklace during First Soldier. The only picture Hojo gave him of her), we can actually see the resemblance between the two.

I find it interesting that Aerith and Lucrecia look related as well (disregarding the early concept drafts of Sephiroth and Aerith being siblings to lovers to what we have now).

[When my mum was interrogated, she had a right to a lawyer, so she contacted the only person she could think of, Sunny Chaudhry, a criminal defence lawyer and old friend. He came to meet me straight after with details]

Sunny: Vincent, I will do everything possible to prove your mother is innocent. She has been framed.

[Initially, there were disputes between Sunny and Billy's police department with cooperating. He was defending the criminal after all. Further review of the documents proved something was off with Gibbs Hill Police and they decided to reinvestigate the murder. Expert help was vital to reinforce the evidence]

[Another autopsy was done to estimate the time of death, cause and identity. Immediate observation showed he wasn't my father. The body identified was a murder victim, from a case solved a week back. It was enough proof. All that was left was for Sunny to finish the legal procedures and defense strategy for the trial]

[Then the day of the trial came. I listened intently to every word he spoke and forgot my anxiety. The verdict was my mum was not guilty and she was released from all charges. Well, this was my idea for why he wanted to be a lawyer! Seeing Sunny fight for Payton to prove her innocence, opened Vincent's eyes. It's quite meaningful because one impacted his own life in such a significant way. And yes I brought back an old face.

The Sun of Ambrose IV (Lost Sinclair!daughter AU)

Hi everyone, this is fourth part my Sinclair!daughter AU in which the reader is Bo's daughter and she has been taken away and adopted by a new family. You can find part I here.

You kept the promise you made to Bo. 

Without your parents knowing, you decided to come back to Ambrose. You waited for the next school break and you paid some friends for them to pretend you were going on holidays with them. Being mute was a new advantage for you, because your parents couldn’t ask your friends to speak with you on the phone. Plus, you stopped talking about the Sinclairs so they were certain you were finally at peace with your past.

You didn’t have Bo’s phone number so you couldn’t warn him you were coming back. You hoped he would be happy to see you.

You said goodbye to your adoptive parents and took a bus, and then another bus until you arrived near Ambrose. You found some people who agreed to drive you to Lester’s town and soon enough you found yourself walking on the dusty roads of the region. 

Luck was on your side this time as Lester found you.

“Y/N!” he yelled in pure joy as he stopped his truck and got out of it. He hugged you very tightly before checking on you to make sure you were alright. He gave you some water before asking you what you were doing here and where your parents were.

“They don’t know I’m here. I told them I was going on holiday with friends. I wanted to come back home without them… I wanted to talk with all of you without them around because they are scared of you” you explained and Lester hummed 

“And you, darl’?” he asked

“And me?”

“Ain’t ya afraid of us? After what your mom said and… did” he added and you shook your head without thinking about it “Ya sure ‘bout it?”

“None of you ever hurt me and… I’ve always wanted to come back home. It is true that I don’t fully understand why she did what she did, but I need to give Bo a chance” you replied

“Bo?” Lester laughed and you arched an eyebrow “He won’t be happy if you call him by his name. Ya betta call him ‘father’ ya know” Lester warned you

“The thing is… he isn’t my father anymore” you replied. Lester gave you a sad smile

“Don’t let him know such things, ‘kay? Or he’ll lose it.” Lester asked you as Ambrose was coming into view. You nodded in agreement. You needed to be careful.

Lester parked in front of Bo’s garage. Bo got out from under a car when he heard Lester’s truck. His eyes instantly lit up when he saw you. He wiped his hands on a cloth before coming to open your door and hugging you even more tightly than Lester did a few instants ago.

“Watcha doin’ here?” he asked with a bright smile, gently cupping your face

“Wanted to spend time with you… without my adoptive parents in the way” you replied

“They ain’t knowin’ ya’re here then?” he asked and he wrapped an arm around your shoulders when you shook your head “Let’s get home then. We’ve got so much to talk ‘bout” he hummed as he guided you towards the house

“Weren’t you working?” you wondered, you didn’t want to bother your father

“Work can wait. Vinny’ll love to show ya ‘round the House of Wax too” Bo said, so excited. Lester trailed off behind the two of you. He was certain it was going to be a very nice day.

And he was right about it.

You quickly felt very at ease with your biological family. You could tell they wanted you back and you teared up when you saw that they hadn’t touched your bedroom since you left. They helped you settle in. Lester went to buy you your favourite food, Bo chatted with you until it was time to prepare dinner and Vincent showed you some sculptures he was doing. You even started a project together.

You ate in a relaxed atmosphere. But you needed to know:

“I don’t remember much of my life here when I was a child. But I remembered very well the House of Wax and I also remembered about the ‘tourists’ because you never let me out of the house when people were coming in here. But I never saw them leaving Ambrose and there were often gunshots and screams. I couldn’t understand before but mother accused you all of being killers and… Well I’m wondering about it now” you signed. The twins exchanged a look

“Ya feel in danger with us?” Bo asked you. You gave him an unimpressed look as it was obvious he was trying to get the conversation to his advantage

“That’s not the subject. Are you killers?” you asked more bluntly this time

Bo didn’t have time to find the right answer as you all heard a car coming. The engine clearly had known better day and stopped in the middle of Ambrose. The twins quickly got up to take care of the situation.

“Lester, bring Y/N to your place while we take care of this” Bo ordered and your uncle quickly nodded and helped you to your feet.

You felt particularly annoyed at the situation but you followed Lester back to his truck. 

“Sorry, ‘bout that darl’, but business can be a little tough here sometimes, especially at night” your uncle tried to smile at you.

“I need you to bring me to the bus stop. If you don’t want to tell me the truth, I have got no reason to stay here or to want to talk with you. I asked a simple question, I wanted to understand. But if you prefer to lie to me, I don’t want this. I’m not even a Sinclair anyways” you grumpily replied.

Lester tried to convince you to stay at his place but you refused, so he brought you where you asked him to. He also gave you his phone number, as well as Bo’s and Vincent’s. He asked you for your number in exchange.

“I know ya’re upset with us, but stay in touch, darl’. We’ve missed ya, and we’ll do betta. I promise” he told you and finally agreed.

After this, the twins spent a lot of time trying to coax you into forgiving them and forgetting about the discussion. 

Bo wished you a good morning everyday and often checked on you throughout the day. Vincent as well. Lester was sending pictures of the road kills or of flowers, insects and rocks he enjoyed. 

You were happy. You sculpted a lot more and often sent pictures of your creations to Vincent so he could tell you how to improve. He was really proud of you and found you very skilled for your age. He was really excited about it, even if the twins hadn’t decided yet how to let you know about the killings. You seemed so sweet and innocent… They didn’t want to drive you away. They didn’t want you to understand why your mother killed herself.

But at the same time, you were refusing to come back to Ambrose without them telling you the truth. How could you be a Sinclair if they didn’t share everything with you? You couldn’t tell them you were a killer too then.

Things changed again when your mother discovered you were talking to the Sinclairs. If you had been smart enough to change their names, when she stumbled into one of the notifications, she understood it was Bo Sinclair messaging you. She was terrified for you, she was terrified of what these men could do to you. She needed to do something to protect you, she needed to make sure you wouldn’t end like your biological mother.

She was ready to call the cops and to let them know where the Sinclairs were. She was certain the police would find terrible things in Ambrose because the town was so strange and quiet. You managed to convince her to wait for the next day to do something about it: “it’s late mom, you can’t call the cops now. You need to wait until tomorrow morning at least…” you said and she agreed but only if you gave her your phone. You reluctantly obeyed, knowing the Sinclairs would be very distraught to not have news from you anymore.

More importantly, you needed to find a plan so your mother wouldn’t call the police on your family. You got mute to protect them, and you felt the same kind of panic you had when you were a child being interrogated by adults. You couldn’t really think straight, you could just act on instinct.

So you did something terrible. You took several different sorts of medicine and put it into your mother tea she always took before bed. You weren’t too sure what it would do to her, but you hoped it would make her sick enough for her to forget about the Sinclairs.

It did make her sick. So sick, she couldn’t leave her bed the next day. As you helped take care of her, you felt awfully guilty. It was your fault she was in such a bad state. However, what could you have done? You needed to protect the Sinclairs like you always did. Otherwise you would never live in Ambrose again, and you would die from the inside. You loved your mother and you were so grateful for the way she took care of you and cherished you… But deep inside, you were a Sinclair.

You thought that it was going to be okay, but when she started to feel better, she asked her husband to call the cops. You were forced to poison her again so all the attention would be back on her. How could your dad call the police when his wife needed to be looked after so badly? It was a vicious circle: whenever she was feeling alright, she wanted to protect you and to prevent her from doing it, you had to hurt her again and again. To appease her, you were barely speaking to Bo and your uncles anymore, just letting them know you were alright but that you needed to be with your mother, because she was very ill.

The doctors couldn’t find what was going wrong and her health only got worse and worse. You knew you were going to kill her if you didn’t stop the poisoning… But what could you do then? She would destroy the future you wanted, the future you needed for you to be whole again.

The irony wasn’t lost on you though: you were fully aware that you lost your biological mother because of your father, and you were now picking him over your adoptive mother. It hit you when you realised you were indeed choosing Bo. You gave her one last time the poison and she had to be taken to the hospital.

She died two days after.

And you cried so much with your dad. You felt shattered, because you loved her but you had to do it. No one could understand your pain full of guilt and duty. You simply sent a message to Bo “Mom is dead” and then you didn’t reply to him for days, which drove him ill with worry and despair. 

You wondered if you shouldn’t kill yourself but then her death would be in vain, and it would make things even worse.

Your adoptive father was an absolute mess. He forgot how to take care of himself and of you. He couldn’t get up in the morning. The pain broke him in a way he never felt before. You couldn’t stand to see him like that, because you knew it was all your fault. You were really a Sinclair, you couldn’t touch something without breaking it. And more terribly, you could only truly cherish your own blood. You tried to be there for him but he couldn’t stand to see you for a while; having a child with his wife had always been his strongest desire, but now it was only reminding him of her absence.

You were 18 and you were going to go to college after the summer break. Your father told you you were a big girl, and he needed some alone time. He gave you money and asked you to leave for the summer. You hugged him and left, already knowing your path was going to lead you to Ambrose.

When you arrived, Bo and Lester were out of town. Vincent greeted you with a bear hug and quickly started to take care of you. He made food for you and removed enough of his mask to kiss your cheek. You remembered his scarred face then, but you didn’t feel disgust. It was normal. He asked you a lot of questions and it felt nice to talk to him about what you felt. You didn’t tell him you were the one who killed your mother; you still felt a lot better. Bo came back home, and like the last time he saw you, his whole demeanour brightened up. He kissed your cheek and hugged you for a long time, until he felt you were completely relaxed against him. He sat you back down and knelt in front of you.

“Does anyone know ya’re here?” he asked

“No. My dad asked me to go away for a little while. He isn’t doing well now that mom is dead. He needed some alone time. He gave me some money though” you explained and you saw anger moving through Bo’s eyes

“He ain’t your dad, love. I am. He’d be takin’ care of ya if he really was lovin’ ya, don’t ya think?” he hummed with venom lacing his voice

“Sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you” you signed before looking away, so Bo grabbed your chin to make you look back at him. He gently smiled at you

“It’s just that I’m your father, and ya’re home.” he smoothly told you and you nodded, which appeased him “Tell me, love, what happened for ya to stop talkin’, we’re all quite missin’ the sound of your voice?” Bo hummed and Vincent gave him a little disapproving sound.

“You made me promise to never talk about Ambrose to strangers” you shrugged and the twins hugged you with fierce love after such words.

TVDU and forced parenthood

I don't know if it is because Julie Plec didn't understand parenthood or just didn't care, but almost every character has a messed up relationship with the idea of parenthood.

Starting with Rebekah, whose entire identity becomes about being a mother. When she is first introduced, she behaves like an immature teenager with almost no maternal instincts or desires. But it quickly shifts in TO to focus on her desire to have a child. I am completely fine with a woman wanting to have children, but she never gave a real reason to want it. Just this general idea that she had always desired it. I get she likely would have been thinking about it when she was human since, during their human period, women tended to have children in their teen years and it was what all women did. But throughout her 1,000 years, we never see her seek that relationship with anyone. She briefly develops a protective relationship with April and then Davina, but they are easily pushed aside. She even abandons her relationship with Hope multiple times. It never seemed to me that she wanted to be a parent, rather wanted a baby.

This is even more obvious by the fact that Klaus 'adopts' Marcel. Rebekah could have adopted a child, or taken in someone throughout her long life. Now, it could have been that she feared Klaus would be angry and jealous, but this story is never shown. In fact, Klaus seems fine with Rebekah training Marcel, even after he was jealous of Elijah teaching him.

Speaking of Marcel, this whole storyline was problematic. The Mikaelsons take in this boy and then make him feel indebted to them. I've seen people argue that they didn't adopt Marcel, but rather took him in as a ward. Either way you look at it, Marcel was a child and deserved to be treated like one and not some trophy (a lot of white saviorism happening). I do think Elijah wanted to raise Marcel as a son but Klaus wouldn't let him. So instead, Klaus raises him as a friend which created a complicated relationship. I also hate how you can clearly see the difference in how Hope is protected versus how Marcel was raised. Whether it's sexist or racist or just based on him not being their biological family, it's problematic.

And then there is Hope. Hayley will always be my favorite parent in TVDU. Even when she was young and overwhelmed, you could tell her thoughts and actions were all about protecting Hope. Yes, some things she did weren't the smartest plan, but she was also a scared 20-something-year-old trying to survive against enemies that were 1000x her age. She risked her life repeatedly for her daughter and would sacrifice anything for Hope to be safe and happy. She was the one character I felt truly understood what it meant to be a parent.

I always get in trouble when I criticize Klaus as a parent, but he was a narcissistic parent for 90% of the show and that honestly needs its own post.

It's not surprising the Mikaelsons don't know how to be parents. Mikael wanted to train them to be warriors and Esther had a similar feel to Rebekah, that she wanted babies but didn't know how to be a mother. I know Esther and Mikael likely had their own childhood traumas, but that's another conversation.

I liked that Kol and Davina never discussed children. Davina was young and Kol never expressed desires to be a father. Not everyone needs to want to have children. To me, Elijah was the only Mikaelson sibling who expressed a deeper interest in being a parent. Yet, he still didn't understand the full extent. He essentially acted like a parent to his siblings but ended up just having messed up relationships with each of them. He wanted to step in with Marcel and even Hope. I like to think he learned his lesson from Marcel and fought harder for Hope, but again, the whole family just fought harder for Hope.

I also think Freya having a child makes sense, but Vincent being the father had me baffled. He hated Elijah for what he did to Davina until Elijah died, but forgave Freya for her role? Not only forgave her but decided to help continue the Mikaelson line. I just find it hard to believe that he would have agreed to help. But Julie wanted to expand the Mikaelsons and then do nothing with it I guess.

Even in TVD, this idea that everyone wants to be a parent is pushed. Again, yes some people do, but not everyone needs to want children.

I understood Jo, Alaric, and even Stefan's desire to have children. This need to protect and care for others was built into them. We see Alaric (before his character sucked) basically adopt Elena and Jeremy. Jo was always protective of her siblings and loved caring for others so much she became a doctor. Stefan just always had this paternal need to take care of others in my opinion. I even see this with Elena and Bonnie. (Also the fact that Bonnie's future is never mentioned -- we hear about everyone else but what was Bonnie up to in Legacies??)

But Caroline and Damon having children made no sense to me. Caroline had dreams of a career and seemed adventurous, but then was forced into pregnancy at what 23 years old while she was still in school? Yes, we see she gets to become a journalist, but in Legacies we don't hear anything about her life or career. She isn't even there as a mother. Caroline's character basically disappears.

Damon never expressed a desire for children that I can remember. He enjoyed his vampire life and I can't see him giving it up to be a mortal, stay-at-home dad.

There are a lot of problems with the show, Friends, but one thing I've always loved is how they show the different pathways to parenthood. Pheobe is a surrogate for her brother, Monica adopts, and Rachel is a single mother. There isn't one way to be a parent, as long as you always put the children's safety and happiness first.

TVDU could have learned a thing about it. For a show that loved to randomly have a found family trope, it was also ready to throw it out the window the second biological family showed up. That's not how found families work, they are family through and through.

Also, and I cannot say this enough, not everyone needs to want to have children. Even women.

With shadow generations i've been thinking about Silver a Lot.

This will be a Long rant about a comic/concept that i will NOT be able to work upon, i'm a full time College student and work as an illustrator via Freelance, alongside personal projects ill say i feel like i have too much at hand but enough talk, concept below cut

As you'll see, this was inpired by Mephiles return, i can Dream abou a new silver campaing and i think a good villain would be Silver himself (Kinda inspired by an video i've seen years ago, if i remember wich one i'll link it in the comments).

Like, erased Silver being one of the remnants of this forgotten world, going back to his future to find nothing, learning how to time travel himself so he could save the life he wanted to have, but he keeps failing because he (his 2006 self) don't exist anymore.

Erased/06 Silver is a different entity than current canon Silver, whom i imagine have an ok future that sometimes is in danger so he goes back, fix things and everything is fine and rainbows again.

Borrowing the concept of multiple realities out of prime and dimensions cause Rush, Erased Silver trying everything he could to save his reality, his world in shambles and everyone that could have survived, he tried the chaos emeralds, not his as his world don't exist anymore, searching through dimensions and alternative realities were, even if he gater them all, they do nothing, even the Master emerald once, it just kicked him back to the nothingness.

So he becomes not quite a villain but someone desperate by all means to just exist.

I just think its neat the team discovering some new threat cause the Canon Silver said his future is starting to colapse but he can't trace the moment in time that explains why, just to fight something like the Time Eater but learning that the one pulling the strings is someone that seems familiar but they can't figure out why (different design, maybe masks like infinite or shade ya know). And he keeps the theme Mephiles started...

In his mind he's still a hero trying to fix everything and bring everyone back.

The more fanfic-ish thing out of this already fanfic-ish concept is Canon Silver or Good Future Silver being raised by Shadow cause i love their dynamic and think its neat, not in the board of "oh he's actually his biological father" yadda yadda (if you are thats ok, im in this boat if we talk about vincent and sephiroth) but id like an adopted father/tutor role cause my boy Shad have seem much and he cares about his friends, so if he saw little silver just waddling around you can't convince me he wouldn't take care of the little thing (and i love the idea of silver's bracelets being some kind of inhibitor, im still making fanfic at heart).

One of the things I like when I think about the "Father Vincent" theory is how it could change the relationship with Cloud. Let me explain better, starting from an assumption. Whether Vincent is Sephiroth's biological father or not, he is incapable of hurting Sephiroth. He would like to, but he can't. It would be right to prevent the genocidal madman from carrying out his plans, but Sephiroth is the son of his beloved Lucrecia. And he also feels responsible for what was done to him when he was still a fetus. Even in this case Vincent is divided, torn between what is right and what he loves. Also crushed by feelings of guilt. So when he meets Cloud and the others, he sees an opportunity. He can't, he just can't, eliminate Sephiroth from the world. But Cloud can. And helping Cloud becomes the way he can do the right thing. From then on the two develop a relationship based on mutual respect and understanding, especially given that they have both experienced similar traumas. What would change if Vincent was Sephiroth's father? Here too I must make a premise, because Vincent could never be certain of a possible paternity. Just a suspicion. A worm that consumes his brain, probably. Only Lucrecia or Hojo could know the truth. In any case, this possibility would change Vincent's mental predisposition. Thinking of having a child, imagining himself as a father, would inevitably change his attitude. An opening would be created, a mental space solely for this new existence potentially created by him. In Vincent's case we would obviously be talking about an empty space. But suddenly this blond boy comes along and somehow forces him to face everything. A boy who needs help fighting the battle of his life, who lost five years of his life to the same project that ruined Sephiroth's. A boy for whom there is still hope, unlike the other. A boy who grew up without the figure of his father and who carries within him an empty space complementary to his own. In this context, the relationship between Vincent and Cloud would acquire new nuances. And I like to think of this paternal Vincent Valentine taking Cloud Strife under his membranous wing. In his own way, of course.

Mostly because I feel like he would still like to have time with his partner and having a lot of kids would take away from that unless you can get a sitter or something

He wants to raise the kids together especially because you both work from home

Also having more than I think 3 for him would make it so he has no time to work on writing

And having only a couple would mean he can evenly give enough attention to the kids.

While for some people having a lot of kids is not a problem with attention and love I think Elliot knows that he’s the type of person that cannot be spread too thin.

Right, so, before I get lynched: until Square Enix tells us otherwise, I'll just go with Hojo being his biological father. I get that Vincent is a popular candidate because of his love for Lucrecia, but it was never fully implied that they were intimate. I think that they may have wanted to be together, however, circumstances got in the way.

We like to dislike Hojo because he's, well, he's Hojo. But I don't think he was always the way that he is now, and we also don't fully know how Lucrecia felt about him. We really know nothing about Hojo and Lucrecia, and the dynamic the two had that isn't from Vincent's perspective. We don't know their whole history before and after they joined Shinra.

So, why wouldn't Hojo be Sephiroth's father? Saying Sephiroth looks like Vincent can be a reason, but I just put it down to characters within the FF franchise having similar appearances.
