stop telling people that voting doesn't matter stop it stop it
incremental change is frustrating and feels like it gets nothing done but it's how the american government works (for better or for worse) and if you get paralyzed by 'we need to revolt voting doesn't matter' that's one more effective vote for the fascists since it's one vote we lose.
I'd much rather have slow but tangible progress (or even just prevention of fascist progression) than everyone sitting around going 'let's wait for the revolution' when no revolution is likely to come while everything gets worse around us.
Obviously, still do whatever it is else to support the antifascist movement. Donate where you can (and do your research!) Go to protests if you feel safe doing so. But do all that AND vote.
#the fash got this prominent because they incrementally voted in worse and worse people until being horrible was normalized#we have to do that in reverse#SPLITTING THE VOTE DOES NOT WORK EITHER#50% DEMOCRAT VOTE GOING TO BIDEN AND 50% GOING TO BERNIE MEANS TRUMP OR WHOEVER WINS BECAUSE 100% OF REPUBLICANS WILL VOTE FOR HIM#AND YEAH. IT'S FRUSTRATING. I KNOW. IT SUCKS.#and some ostensibly blue politicians kinda suck#(which means. vote in primaries so we get someone who doesn't kinda suck)#BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD VOTE#antifascist#tw politics#conservatives don't touch this post#let's play a fun game of will this get me shadowbanned#(if it does. uhm. can someone tell me how to appeal it)#serious post

me when I'm in an "intentionally & willfully misrepresent an argument" competition & my opponent is a liberal who thinks Biden & Trump are the only two politicians in the US
#anyways if the Democratic party refuses to primary Biden then its obvious that they have absolutely no intention of winning#I will not vote for the man who is actively arming a genocidal colonial state.#Biden is not only letting a holocaust happen under his watch. He is actively encouraging it.#I refuse to vote for him & anyone with even half a heart will too.#palestine#israel#us politics#president biden#joe biden

Congrats to Fulton County (Georgia) District Attorney Fani Willis who just won the Democratic primary for her current position by a 7 to 1 margin. Ms. Willis is the prosecutor behind the indictment of Donald Trump and a number of other GOP miscreants in the 2020 election interference case in Georgia.
Fani Willis's Republican opponent in the November election, interestingly, will be a former intern at the Trump White House.
Willis, the Fulton County district attorney, easily defeated Democrat Christian Wise Smith. Willis and Smith, whom she also beat in the 2020 primary, both worked in the district attorney’s office under former District Attorney Paul Howard. [ ... ] Willis is now set to face Republican lawyer Courtney Kramer in November. Kramer, who interned in the Trump White House, ran unopposed Tuesday. Willis is considered the heavy favorite for the general election in Fulton County, which includes Atlanta. Willis brought charges against Trump last year for his role in trying to overturn the 2020 election results, as well as co-conspirators, which include Georgia GOP state legislators and the former head of the state Republican Party.

Look I thought about not being nasty. So I won't be to the extent I feel it. That being said: everyone who thinks
1) Harris shouldn't have focused on the center as much as she did, despite Biden being even more center than she was and winning in 2020 with voters who didn't bother to show up this time, and instead should have tried to pander to inactive voters who cared more about moral grandstanding than the rights of those around them or couldn't be bothered to show up without a pandemic on their minds.
2) That Bernie is right and the working class didn't show up for her because her economy policies weren't that good for the working class(they were, I read them), despite the fact numerous economists said he would at best put us in a recession and we were actually doing fairly well considering covid, and not that no one in this country actually understands the economy outside of stocks.
3) Or that any of the losses that occurred were not because of the fact voters have short fucking memories and democrats would rather stay home than protect themselves and their mothers, wives, sisters and daughters than vote for a black, asian woman.
Like we can pretend that men haven't been in echo chambers online breeding incel communities. We can pretend that Harris was somehow way more awkward and stiff than Biden in 2020. We can pretend she wasn't competent in her presentation and messaging. We can pretend that FBI launching an investigation into racist text messages has nothing to do with the climate around the politics of this election. We can pretend that identity has nothing to do with politics despite evidence to the contrary but let's be fucking real.
People weren't willing to vote in 2024 without 4 years of hell fresh on their memory and a candidate who would stop it. Instead they got complacent with Biden making positive changes everyday despite the House flipping halfway through his presidency. The voters who didn't show up decided they didn't care about the threat to women's rights, or the safety of minorities or even FDA food inspections to name a few things of the top of my head, which honestly hurts more than the half of the country that wants him somehow. Because we know they could have made an effort. They just didn't.
#also lets be fucking real#aside from the fact that bernie hasn't been working class at best since the fucking 90s#and his argument was that those who didn't vote for kamala were right not to because she wasn't perfect for a base of voters who routinely#either vote for a man who was literally born rich or didn't care enough about women and minorities to show up#the fact that some people think that despite him not being able to win a democratic primary once#he somehow could have won the nation? Like bestie let's be real here#my man cannot win anything outside of his own state as proven by all three primaries#god hes so fucking stupid and so are the people who think he's right#us politics

someone tell Kamala that she’ll never be unburdened by what has been because sleeping with a married dude twice your age is a scarlet letter you don’t get to take off
#harris 2024#she didn’t win the primary to run in 2020 and she woulda lost if they had one for this election too#you don’t have to like Trump to vote for him lol he’s the only candidate running who was elected to by a candidate#that should count for something lol#the Biden administration wasn’t good the last 4 years and they’re still going to be pulling the strings for the next 4 years if Kamala wins

Do any of the Democrats that’re currently demanding Biden step down have an actual solid plan for who else can defeat Trump and how? Oh yeah and their only legit option for replacement is Harris, anyone else they provide (ie Gavin Newsom) would be overriding her position as Vice President/Vice Presidential candidate and likely lose a LOT of Black and women voters. But if 2016 is anything to go by, as much as I believe she’d make a decent and competent president (and I’d still vote for her in a nanosecond if she actually was the candidate) she’s unfortunately incredibly unlikely to win against Trump at this point in time. And plus I don’t think she’s even entertaining the option; she has said she’s standing by Biden as his running mate. Here’s the thing: there’s only ONE PERSON in the ENTIRE COUNTRY who has EVER beaten Trump in an election, and that’s the person they’re currently trying to unseat. They’re gambling our democracy against the SINGULAR tried and true method of defeating Trump, and it’s a gamble I’m personally not willing to take.
#‘he’s too old’ well so is Trump#and Trump is a lot worse off mentally#but also Biden is old RIGHT. NOW. and he’s STILL doing 100000x better as president than Trump ever did#he’s our best fucking bet against Trump and these people are kidding themselves to believe otherwise#especially when they don’t have an actual. solid. and better-than-Biden plan on how to better guarantee a win against Trump#plus any attempt to get rid of Biden could also be seen by voters as an attempt by politicians to unseat a duly elected candidate#and replace him with someone they didn’t vote for#(because remember: he’s winning the primaries so far)#election 2024#politics#joe biden#donald trump#kamala harris

Bernie keeps getting worse by kissing Trump & Musk's asses & I am so embarrassed at the fact that I voted for this guy in the primaries twice thinking he was super progressive. 💀
#rabbit rambles#granted I was 18 in 2016 & it was my first time voting BUT STILL#I obvs voted all blue in the general#but primaries I went for Bernie because “oh hey democratic socialist. Cool!”#I even went to one of his rallies in 2020#if that tells you how much I looked up to him when I was younger#I DID already lose some of my interest in him by 2020 though#but like...#phew#I am absolutely never listening to anything this guy says again. fuck him.

I miss having access to Respected Lawyer Friend to be able to ask questions re: justice system voting, because rn I'm just like 'I don't know what 'apply the law as written' means but given all the Republicans are using it I feel like it's a dog whistle for SOMETHING.'
#I KNEW I agreed with Respected Lawyer Friend on politics so I'd just ask who she was voting for#and I might ask follow-up questions but generally just assumed she knew her business because she WORKED with the candidates#and like. politics don't - or shouldn't - have a place in the judicial system#so unlike most other places a lil' R doesn't automatically mean 'you probably will want to hit them with a chair if they talk for 5 minutes#and this was brought home to me the year a complete crackpot got the Democratic nom because she was a woman#and the dude who'd had the position for years and had high approval in the legal community was a guy#and enough people voted knowing nothing that she beat him in the primaries#even though she was unqualified and unhinged#and Respected Lawyer Friend was like 'please vote against her'#did feel weird to be going 'anything but the Dem please god' on that ballot I admit#but I miss having that

there's a lot of uncontested nominees on my ballot and I remmeber last time I researched these people anyways and some of them should have been contested tbh I don't think it matters if I vote on those positions but I do vote for the ones I like and go uncommitted for ones I dont
#like on some level uncommitted on an uncontested position probably matters but also.. does it?#for the dem primaries I went uncommitted on president#and I guess it mattered somewhat if a bunch of dems voted uncommitted at the primaries#and they finally got him kicked out of the nomination

Switched my voter registration to vote in the Republican primary instead of the Democratic one considering there's at least a chance that'll be competitive by the time it gets here and all the non-presidential offices have top-two primaries rather than party based ones.
#Don't get me wrong extremely slim chance this matters#Just slightly less slim than if I were voting or not voting for Joey B in the Dem primaries#Gonna go for whichever non-Trump candidate still has juice at that point if any#ATM looks likely to be Haley if anyone#If you're in California you may wanna consider this#But also it probably won't matter and does take like five minutes to do#So you can weigh those tradeoffs for yourself and see if it seems worth the effort#Mostly want to make his path harder if possible which is unlikely to be possible#A longer and more contested primary will put him in worse shape for the general#and while the current guy is pretty dogshit on several extremely important to me issues I'd still prefer Trump lose#tbf the current guy is also at least halfway decent on some other important to me issues it's just hard to find that compelling

#politics#pete buttigieg#jd vance#i've always liked pete personally#and idrc what very useless online leftists say about him#i voted for warren in the primary in 2020 but he was definitely my second choice#and he'd make an amazing president in the future#plus he has a way of speaking to independents and the political middle and even some republicans that actually works to get them on side#not in a pandering 'i'm going to be a republican basically' way#but in a way that actually gets them to consider moving left especially on economic issues

"block anyone on your dash for not voting in this election!!!" babe i get what ur saying but im also not gonna block half my leftist mutuals just for being pissed off to the point of apathy and choosing to vent about it on tumblr. like i get it, i do, but also? nuance.
also here's a relevant newsweek article i read the other day. i think it's worth noting that voter apathy is very high rn and most of it is not social-media based (and the solution is not to cut out or block people who disagree with you, but it never is and tumblr users always seem to think it is so 🙄)
#why would i take the advice of a rando on my dash regarding my mutuals who i know hm? 🤨#im probably gonna vote but it genuinely feels more pointless and frustrating than ever before#and im not gonna villify people for being upset that we're basically being forced to vote for a candidate that no one rly wants#bc i swear to god if the primaries were done in a slightly different order i don't think joe would have won#no one fucking liked him they just start the primaries in the least politically informed parts of the country#by the time it gets to me i don't even need to bother voting bc iowa et al already chose my candidates for me#bonkers how that system works imo#anyway let's just all be a little patient with each other because politics has been scary and stressful for like a hot minute now#and everyone is a little exhausted!#bri babbles
