Weekly update #1

I'll probably be here the most out of my socials.

I'll also do little updates here where I talk about my plans while I'm still getting this whole thing going. Once I start posting vids I may move it to a patreon. (probably won't be in a charged tier that feels silly lol)

Anyway!!!

I'm going to start editing my first vids on my two days off. I'm going to start with shorts! I don't really want to put a whole lot of effort into the videos I've scripted just yet. I don't want to waste them on videos where my inexperience is going to age poorly and be inconsistent.

While I don't want to set out to be a lore/facts channel, that's where I am starting. I want to do a little shorts series (vids maybe 1-2 min long max) where I share 5 facts about a pokemon. I plan to start with the Paldea dex! Not the most original idea but it sounds like a good way for me to ease into larger projects and get some good practice in.

I deleted my twt for now. It got s-banned and honestly I had such a lackluster start and I really don't like the site I don't know if I will focus on sharing works there. Maybe later, but on a new account starting from scratch? It's not really worth it to post there.

I wanted to distance myself from...myself lol because I haven't had much success in terms of finding an audience with my current art. But I do work full time, I have a pretty active social life and I also need to unwind while also starting up this project. So I'm going to start posting old drawings of mine on all my accounts. A lot of it hasn't been posted publicly in years so it will feel new to a lot of people. So that starts tomorrow

Anyway! Lots of words! I want to do a little ramble where I document my thoughts and progress to hype myself up. If you stick around to read update #1 thank you!!! You rock!

!! aaa im glad to hear that this compilation will be useful. i feel like it's really difficult to find people in the same fanbase, especially if you're new to something. it took me so very long to get used to using social media (i feel ancient saying this.) and finding my delusional circle of mutuals TT_TT

Editing update:

So I'm editing my epistolary regency romance novel, and I have made at least 5 mins effort (but often more) every day this week. I'm proud of that!

I have re-outlined the first 23 chapters (52%) of the book. I have summarized the themes of the first 24 letters (in spreadsheet form).

All of this was in my original outline and notes, but I'm re-creating the outline for two reasons:

I want to make sure my outline has only what's actually in the book, not anything I skipped including from the book's original plans

I want to refamiliarize myself with not only the story's details but the timing.

It's been interesting to go through it on this level.

I'm catching inconsistencies that I didn't catch any of the last 13 times I read it. (In my defense I wrote 100,000 words in two months, there wasn't all that much re-reading going on.)

Beyond small grammar and name errors, I'm realizing that certain characters know things they shouldn't or vice versa. Also one plotline that could have been bigger got mostly dropped with just a small reference here or there, and that seems very out of character for several of the girls.

I noted that my visual descriptions of both characters and setting were lacking. I opened the book with the main family getting described, but I don't know that their friends ever were. Both FMC and MMC's houses have absolutely no descriptive language. I included it when they went new places and remarked on things, but not for what they saw as mundane.

Last thing: I started this process with plans to cut one entire arc (keep only what was necessary, but move it to a different setting) and several characters who appear only in that arc.

Well I got to it and I found that that setting has the most vivid setting descriptions and some of the most endearing interactions. So I can't cut it, I'll have to find something else.

Here we go

Terran cracked an eye open. Morning again. By far, the worst part of being an itinerant scholar was waking up stiff on the road. Late spring was a better time to be sleeping rough than some others, but this far north the ground still remembered winter. Terran pulled their bedroll more tightly around themselves for a moment, willing sleep to return. It did not. The persistent ache in their bladder, combined with the root they seem to have rolled onto in the night, made Terran climb out of last night’s bed and crack their back. Their breath made ghosts in the chill dawn air as they took care of their morning routine, packed up the bedroll, and continued down the road.

Hurstley, the eastern-most holding in the county of Valareth, was big enough that it took several days to cross on foot. It had been a long journey north and Terran’s purse was feeling the effects. Their feet were feeling it even harder.

The clop-clop of hooves and the creaking of a wagon brought relief. Terran turned and coming up the road was a hay wagon pulled by a braw farm horse. The old man on top looked like a peeled apple left in the sun for too long. Terran waited for the cart to catch up with them. They began to walk alongside.

“Good morning!” they called. The farmer nodded at them.

“Good morning young master.”

“Where are you headed, Grandfather?”

“On up to Hurstley Manor, young…ster.” Terran was used to the hesitation. They had been told several times that it was hard to determine exactly what they looked like and honestly Terran enjoyed it that way. Jaw just a little too strong to be comfortably feminine, chest just slightly too big to be comfortably masculine, Terran rested in a comfortable androgyny. The old man shook his head but continued, “are you looking for a lift?”

Terran offered him a brilliant smile. “If there’s room on your cart, Grandfather, I’d love nothing more.”

The old man was an amiable travel companion. He talked with pride about his farm and his home and his family.

“We’ve lived in Hurstley since the War of the Gods, it seems. Bora’s Body, but there isn’t a more beautiful place in all the world, seems to me. And Lirburn is a good master. My boys and I, we grow the hay that supplies the castle and the town below it.”

“You must have a big farm then?”

“Oh aye. And times must be good because Sir Lirburn has been ordering more of our hay than he used to, seems like! If this keeps up, we’ll need to till even the fallow field next year! I’d warn him though, you can’t keep using up the fallow field year in and out. Fields got to go fallow for a reason!”

He continued speaking but Terran stopped listening. Sometimes a Knight or Lord might have need of a few extra supplies if he was expecting a party or some such, but to make continued increases in supplies sounded to Terran less like times were good and more like times were about to get bad.

“So whereabouts are you from then?”

Terran jumped at the question. They took a second to bring themselves present.

“Uh, most recently from Tonbridge, but originally Tyr’s Reach.”

“Oh that right? You’re a long ways from the capitol, youngster.”

Terran shrugged. “Gotta go where there’s work.”

The old man laughed. “Too right, too right.” He seemed content to leave it at that. Terran was relieved. Truthfully, as a master in the Scribal Guild, Terran could have gotten work just about anywhere. The book in their pack burned in the back of their mind. Afar as Terran’s studies had taken them, their final destination was somewhere in the Duchy of Norfolk. Either County Valareth or County Cheshire, if Terran was right. Terran was unlikely to find a very lucrative contract out here but work was work and Terran would take whatever paved their way to their final destination. Wherever that ended up being.

The town of Hurstley had a relaxed atmosphere about it, being in the shadow of the manor house. The house was a stone manor surrounded by a wooden palisade at the top of a hill with a rocky bluff down one side. No way to bring a large force there without being noticed. The manor, the town, the holding of this size were all far more than most knights had. Sir Lirburn must have the good graces of someone.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

I forget exactly where I saw the initial post asking for volunteers, but on July 10th, I reached out to the listed email. Jane, the organizer, got back to me right away and within an hour I was added in their discord.

Up until this point, I had been maintaining an average 8 ESims myself, so I already had experience checking in on them on a daily basis. The folks there helped me onboard with the spreadsheets for keeping track, and now it's very easy for me to catalog new ones I buy and record daily data usage. The whole process takes me maybe 20-40 minutes a day depending now on how many ESims actually need to be topped off.

Jane has been very up front with lots of the group's information, with frequent announcements about the groups current funds and amounts of daily ESims sent out. She and the others have been super helpful with getting funds to us when needed, and I've almost never had to actually spend any of my own money for any of this.

In the time that I've been volunteering, they figured out how to run a Business account with the Nomad ESim company. Which means that now and then they can just send 15 or so ESims my way, and I just catalog them and send the QRcodes towards Mirna and the Connecting Gaza folks. No more wasting time with the purchasing process, while getting a bit of a bulk discount on top of that.

We also share updates on whatever brand of ESims are most needed. When folks on the ground tell us that one network doesn't seem reliable, we are able to switch over for a while until either the networking issue is fixed, or we all pressure customer service enough to replace them for us.

There's also lots of complaining about new UI updates an general website bugs. There's surprisingly a lot of them and it's good to know other folks are getting info from customer service when things go wrong.

Lets get into some stats for myself. In 2 months (July 10- Sept12) I have:

Send off 171 ESims

Maintained around 60 active ones

Topped up these active ESims 139 times

Spend over $6400 donated dollars

I have multiple power users who have burned through close to 100GB. 2 of them have broken 200GB. These are most likely being used as hot spots.

Why am I sharing all of this? Mostly to show how easy it has been to make a marginal difference. I have helped at least 60 people stay connected with the outside world in just 2 months. Probably more if we assume some of the power users becoming hotspots for other folks. This is 20-40 minutes of my time a day, and I honestly regret not signing up to do this sooner.

I was specifically limiting myself to this workload because I wanted to test the waters. Those stats was me specifically not wanting to push myself and see what impact a normal person could make with 20 minutes a day. At this point I think I will be taking more advantage of Nomad's Tuesday discounts to really bulk up my numbers. It's pretty easy to buy 15 or so every Tuesday, and then send em over.

Sources report the occupation has withdrawn from Al-Shifa Hospital complex and surrounding neighborhoods.

It is reported that over 50 martyrs have been founded in the streets outside the complex entrance. Hundreds more martyrs lie in the complex itself, we may not know an exact number for many hours.

Many buildings have been either bulldozed out of existence or burned and gutted so viciously as to be completely unusable. Many homes in the vicinity are in the same condition.
